Film Director Jonathan Demme (22/2/47 - 26/4/2017) is credited with THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (1991), PHILADELPHIA (1993), SOMETHING WILD (1986), HEART OF GOLD (2006) and RACHEL GETTING MARRIED (2008).

"We don’t have an illusion that this is something that can move into a movie theater and play for weeks," Demme says, acknowledging the tough times facing docus. "I’m hoping we’ll have some great moment in theaters, but I know full well this is a cable and DVD play." Demme is already prepping the DVD, which will include eight songs not seen in the 82-minute theatrical version.

Additionally, Demme is thinking about another film with Young to complete the trilogy: "I just feel that the physics lead to a third movie." he says.

From an interview with Director Jonathan Demme on Spinner by Liisa Ladouceur:

"The film was shot over two nights in 2007 at the Tower Theater in Pennsylvania during Young's 'Chrome Dreams II' tour. It eschews the chronology of the concerts' set lists, instead jumping around between electric and acoustic numbers both familiar ('Cowgirl in the Sand,' 'Cinnamon Girl') and rare ('Ambulance Blues, 'Mexico') and what passes for costume changes at a Young show (jacket goes on, jacket comes off). The focus is on the interactions between Young and his band, and Demme admits there was 'minimal' pre-planning before the shoot. 'I just tried to respond spontaneously to the music,' he says.

One impromptu moment captured in the film is when Young appears to forget the words to his hit 'Like a Hurricane.' Demme responded by putting the lyrics up onscreen, karaoke style. 'The whole point of that song is that the person telling the story gets lost in a hurricane,' Demme explains, laughing. 'So when Neil is wandering around the stage, forgetting to sing into the microphone, it was like he got lost, too. I thought it was perfect. And Neil liked it; he asked me to keep it in.'

Demme admits he's a 'Neil Young groupie' and says he's already planning a third film with the singer, although no details are forthcoming. And while he says 'nothing can ever compete with live music,' he still finds concert filmmaking exciting.

'We can present a more intimate view of what's going on on the stage.' he says. 'We can pull the audience out of their seat and put them inside the music. Because it's the music that's the message. It's what takes us on the journey.'"

"Seán Francis Condon: Is 'Trunk Show' the most elaborate sound mix you've done?

Demme: No. In fact, when we did 'Heart of Gold' - when I've done any of these performance films, whoever's doing them - you cut to the board mix. But then you go on to a movie mixing stage, and you break all the tracks down and you make a brand new mix that in theory is going to be the best sound tapestry and make sure you get everything right. We did 'Heart of Gold' that way, and Neil was at the controls. But here, the more we cut to the board mix, the more I thought it would be insane and kind of against the whole vibe of this show and the film to break that up. This sounds live to me! So, we really stuck with the board mix. Ninety-five percent of what we hear now is what the people in the room heard those nights. There are a couple of places where just one of the levers wasn't up enough and we couldn't hear something. Here and there. This is essentially like a bootleg soundtrack."

DEMME: "When I see him galumphing across the stage in the middle of No Hidden Path, so deep in a trance-state, making sounds that I've never heard and I find so thrilling … it's like if Tchaikovsky had been a guitar player. I just think in terms of the word master coming into my head. Look at this grizzled master just burning this stuff down."

Neil Young: After Facebook - "Days away from dropping social media platform" | NYA

In the latest development in Neil Young's long running battle against social media Goliath Facebook, Neil has announced that NYA is "Days away from dropping social media platform" on "After Facebook" | Times Contrarian | NYA.

In addition, it will cost nearly $20K to disengage from Facebook.

While no specifics were given, NYA will attempt to make the Facebook termination transition as easy possible for NYA fans.

As covered here previously on TW, Neil Young has been in a long running battle against Facebook -- most recently -- due to Facebook "screwing with our election".

This has all been very somewhat troubling for Neil Young fans, especially for those Rusties On Facebook, given the demise transfer of Rust@yahoo to Rust@Groups.

But as we've urged Neil Young and many, many rusties, disengaging from the corrosive mega tech giants is the only option to avoid the brave, new dystopian Orwellian world and embrace the inevitable #BigShift.

Facebook is Toast at NYA | NYA

In November 2019, Neil Young announced that "Facebook is Toast at NYA". And we said: "Congratulations Neil." Should've been done long ago. Facebook has been Toast to TW since 2015 and we could not be happier about it. (More below on the history of FB & TW. Short story: FB suspends TW and the long slide of FB begins. So note carefully Tech Giants like YouTube and Twitter.)

Writing on Times-Contrarian | NYA, Neil Young wrote that he will be discontinuing use of Facebook due to their "obvious commitments to one side of politics".

Again, this announcement comes as no big surprise given Neil Young's previous editorial statements about the Tech Giant's unethical and predatory behavior. (See Neil Young Calls Out Big Tech ... Yet Again) Just earlier this month, regarding "The Facebook Dilemma", Neil helpfully offered instructions on how to delete one's Facebook account. Likewise, TW helpfully offers a "How To" video on how to delete your Facebook account.

We all know that "The role of the artist is to make revolution irresistible." So once again, Neil Young speaks truth to power as he faces a "big decision" on access to his Archives due to Facebook's lack of social responsibility.

In a recent posing on NYA Times-Contrarian, Neil Young writes that:

"Censorship is a big responsibility and the Social Media Giant is seemingly not up to defending democracy, at least not yet."

The issue of tech giants and censorship has come up previously and it appears to have reached a cross-roads -- not just with Neil -- but with virtually all things internet related. In February, Neil Young wrote that tech giants rip off artists, who are being forced to distribute their music in the digital world. (And this is just one more reason why we sing this song because we love the man.)

Ditch Facebook.

"They" have tried to take us down by canceling our advertising partnerships, or blocking our ability to run Google Ads, or hacking our Twitter account, or filing fraudulent transactions on our PayPal account, or disrupting the ISP service of our partner WBKM.org and Thrasher's Wheat Radio, or screwing around with our Amazon partner links, or jerking us around about Willie for a Nobel, capping our LIKES below 30K and unsub'g folks automatically, throttled our once robust reader comments eco-system suspending the Gigs for the Gulf page based on false copyright infringement claims, trying to make exposing environmental crimes a crime, disrupting freedom of speech and assembly, or humiliating and mocking our efforts when we try and stand up, algorithmic censorship to lower our rank off of Top 10 Search results or gaslighting us with "fake Neil news", sending in all sorts of trolls and spammers to disrupt the Neil community, or making exposing a war crime a war crime or blasting us with near Stuxnet-like levels of crippling attacks on our servers, dropped from Google News as a legitimate (non-fake) news source and on & on...

Is that the best you got? We're still here. Just remember, TW has been around longer than Google, Amazon or Facebook. The corruption on the highest floors will cease and Justice will triumph. The Truth and The Light will always prevail and overwhelm the darkest of the Darkness of Corruption.

While we are in pure speculation territory here (where we normally do not tread without some very good intel), most CSNY fans feel that a CSNY reunion or tour will never, ever happen because of the vast amount of "bad blood" between the players, in particular David Crosby. From PODCAST: David Crosby Talks Neil Young & More | ‘Freak Flag Flying’ published in January 2020 where Crosby discusses Neil Young, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash:

David Crosby: “I don’t think it’s going to happen.

The thing to do is be grateful for what there was. There was a period of time there when we really did make some very good music together and I’m grateful for it. I think everybody has to deal with their life as it comes to them and if those guys are stuck where they are, they’re stuck where they are.

I’m trying real hard not to be.”

So that would seem to settle matter that a CSNY reunion ain't happening in our lifetimes. Or maybe not so fast???

Neil Young Says No 2020 Concert Tour Plans: "I am taking care of my music" | NYA

In response to a Letters to the Editor on NYA asking about 2020 concert tour plans, (see "Taking Care" | LTE | NYA), Neil Young writes that it's not happening and "Don't expect anything. I'm not focused on playing. I am taking care of my music".

Without his long-time manager Elliot Roberts to guide, it isn't totally surprising that concert tour plans have been unable to gel.

In response to other Letters to the Editor, Neil Young confirmed the release of "Homegrown" for April, 2020 (more details at Test Pressing of "Homegrown" by Neil Young ). In July, 2020, "Greendale Live" will be released as an album and a movie (more details at Premiere: RETURN TO GREENDALE by Neil Young & Crazy Horse @ Balboa Theater, San Francisco, CA - Jan 28, 2020).

Neil Young Fans Have Spoken and They Want Pearl Jam?! Archives Survey Results Posted

Neil Young fans have spoken and --surprisingly -- they want Pearl Jam?!

Specifically, fans voting in the NYA "In The Can" survey voted "MIRROR BALL LIVE‚ DUBLIN with friends from PEARL JAM, 1995" as the #1 and #3 choice, per The Can: Survey Results | NYA.

Earlier this month, Neil Young Archives opened the polls to allow fans to vote on the New Releases Survey. And fans definitely voted with their conscience. Or did they?

In looking at the results, many are astonished that MIRROR BALL LIVE‚ DUBLIN with friends from PEARL JAM, 1995" was voted as the #1 and #3 top choices. "EARLY DAZE—Crazy Horse, 1960's" was the #2 choice.

Some have questioned whether there was some sort of Pearl Jam block voting/ballot stuffing initiative operating out of Dublin, Ireland. (See comment by Dionys -- obviously, conspiratorially minded ... j/k)
