Neil Young Announces NYTV Coming in 2020 + 25+ Completed Projects "In the can"

NYA News 2020
Times-Contrarian | NYA

Writing on Times-Contrarian | NYA, Neil Young writes that he will be introducing NYTV in 2020.

NYTV will be a podcast for subscribers only. Here at Thrasher's Wheat, we have been a strong proponent of Neil TV dating back to 1997. But, that's another story for another day...

"Neil TV" Supporter w/ Andy & Mary
Neil Young w/ Crazy Horse: HORDE Tour - Camden, New Jersey - 1997

Along with lots of new features for NYA in 2020, a small increase in the annual subscription to $2.99/month ($29.99/year).

Also, a survey will be coming to vote on releases that are "In The Can" | Times-Contrarian | NYA.

Once again, the possibilities are mind boggling with over 25+ completed audio and/or film projects that are "In The Can", unreleased and ready to go.

We know that we've long been anxious for the release of "Trunk Show", the Neil Young concert film directed by Jonathan Demme. We attended the filming of both concerts in 2007 Philadelphia shows.

Of course, who can forget Archives Guy urging us to get to theaters before the release of BluRay DVD?!

Highlights include the solo for “No Hidden Path” at roughly 20 minutes long.

24 of the 28 items listed are designated as LPs, whatever is going on with filmic content. That's 24 Unreleased albums, many of which I never knew existed. Like Homefires. And Catalyst. And Polar Vortex. To name but three from different eras.

I hope the Ducks album gets enough votes to come out in 2020!

I will certainly be voting for it.

K

PS Ragged Glory 2 and Last Dance are not included. Maybe not "in the can" yet.

Thanks Ken. yes, good point on the project media type.

The Catalyst must be the recently announced vault discovery of the multi-cam film.

so much to digest. if anyone has listing as a text file, please post.

@ $29.99 a year it’s still a unimaginably awesome deal. I’ll pay double for access to any of the above listings.

Fingers crossed 🤞

Surely "The Can" is much bigger news and more headline worthy than "NYTV"

For what it's Worth, my picks at the moment are:
1. Odeon/Budokan
2. Bottom Line
3. Early Daze (or maybe the Ducks)

Would be happy with Catalyst or Toast too. But what crazy horse do I want to hear most? 1976 or Danny-era all day long.

What a deal to have this at our fingertips at any (almost) price. Neil gets the working class;he's on our side,so I trust him as much as I do Bernie.

NeilTV, podcasts and even the videos & films seem like a huge distraction to me. More music please. Archives Volume 2 (&3), Homegrown, Odeon Budokan, Chrome Dreams, Ducks & Boarding House. It will be glorious.

I’d love to see Vicar St (not Vickar!) as a full release - especially if it included all the second sets from each of the three nights. I only made it to one of the nights and it is a bit sad that so many great performances/songs are left in the vaults. Actually, a massive Greendale box with the Crazy Horse live material would be the ultimate for me.

Wait people... We must see the CSNY Filmore Film.. That has to be #1, after that doesn't matter, they are all great, but let us see CSNY in their prime.

The method is strange but typically NY.... Choosing 3 priorities out of 25 is weird... Especially without the tracklists!
But what seems to me most interesting are the songs never published and never performed live....

Also, was anyone able to decipher the Homegrown tracklist that can be seen on J. Hanlon's video on NYA?
I've seen "Try", "Mexico" and "White Line" and a total of 12 songs.

This is the first mention of Homefires (1974) I have ever seen. Wasn't "Homefires" supposed to be a song on Homegrown? This looks to me like a recently made-up album from tracks banished from Homegrown, but I am only guessing. Does anyone have ANY info on this one?

I have over 3000 vinyl records, over 4000 CD’s, almost 800 DVD’s & Blu Rays. and I’m running out of room.

With that being said..... HEY NEIL!!!!!!

Just release EVERYTHING and I will buy it!!!!!

OKAY?????

Whatever happened to box sets? My opinion would be to group the projects into subsections (unreleased studio albums, Live albums 70's, Live albums 80's, Live albums 90's, Live Films DVD/Blu Ray, etc.) and create a new ITC "In The Can" series of box set releases. Release them all as box sets, add them to the archives, THEN later release single CD releases of the albums from the sets that are deemed by Neil and/or the Suits at Reprise Records to be popular enough to warrant popping them out of the sets for the casual fans to buy. Of course in reality what would most likely happen would be the single albums would come first and we'd buy them. Then the sets would be releases later with several new albums only available in them along with the bunch of albums we already bought. Suits would win as usual and we'd all be pissed we're forced to buy a set that only has 50% new material in it and a bunch of stuff we already have (like what happened with archives vol.1). Putting the sets out first before the single releases would be the fair way to do it since us die-hard fans would be the ones willing to shell out the bucks for those sets and in doing so would get the reward of getting the stand alone releases early. This is instead of the way its usually done where us die-hards get punished for being what we are and are the ones coughing up the bucks twice for the same product!

I just hope that NYA voters try to overcome their blind spots and do not vote for projects of the '73 - '76 era. It would be nicer to have some of these gap years filled, "The Ducks", "Island in the Sun", "Mirror Ball Live" or "Toast" appear to be more interesting than representations of Neil Youngs most prolific years of which there are many on the archives and on our own shelves already.

What about adding 1984 and 1985 unreleased studio stuff with International Harvesters to the projects? And the 1985 live ep to benefit Farm Aid maybe? Interstate live with IH is a gem. Also 1983 old ways mk1 was not mentioned.
Hope so, on the other hand Lincvolt documentaries doesn't set me on fire.

A poll is being conducted on the FB RUST page. So far, with 255 respondents, Homegrown is far and away the favorite, followed by Toast and Chrome Dreams. Catalyst (1990) is a close 4th. Then the Ducks in 5th place. This is just a possible small cross section of the 20K fans signed up on NYA, but it gives you a feeling of what could happen. Among a smaller group of Archives scholars on another FB group, Homefires comes in at second place after Homegrown. But it has very low name recognition among the general public since it has never even been introduced before.

"Pick Neil's next record" is a cool marketing stunt. There has been a lot of press surrounding it already. I hope it brings a lot more EYES to NYA in order to enable it's long term survival.

I might add that all of this news about NYTV, blog, expanded Times-Contrarian, more releases in 2020, etc is likely an output of the survey Neil recently conducted. And it's also possibly influenced by Uncle Eddie.

At 12/04/2019 06:46:00 PM, Blogger thrasher said...

Thanks for everyone's input here.

@LRR - Thanks for sharing the poll results. The Archives scholars have voted! Yes, it'll be interesting to see what the less than die-hard fans prefer.

Homegrown, Toast, Chrome Dreams, Catalyst (1990), Homefires all good calls and fine by us.

Frankly, our push for Trunk Show has a lot to do with fond memories of Demme and those 2 nights in Philly more than anything else. nostalgia

Right, "Pick Neil's next record" is a cool marketing stunt. We've come a very long way with Neil listening to his fan base. Now what he does with all of this data, we'll have to see. can't wait for 2020!

At 12/09/2019 08:20:00 AM, Blogger Ken N. said...

Thrasher, if you're reading this, Ragged Glory Extended Version with extra songs has been added
to the list of what is in The Can. So. . .we can now vote for that one too!

For me, it certainly changes the calculus.

At 2/01/2020 10:11:00 PM, Blogger Sandy McL said...

I subscribed specifically to see Trunk Show (I attended at Massey Hall), then disappointed to find out it's not available even when there's a page for it.
