Neil Young News: "The greatest manager of all time": Neil Young’s Statement on Elliot Roberts

too late, too soon, he sleeps with angels...

Somewhat like -- and very unlike -- some of those years of Neil Young past -- 2019 was just as "newsworthy" as ever -- both in terms of quantity and quality. While 2019 was the year "Sadness & Triumph", it nears completion with another career milestone of Neil Young's 2019 Song Setlist Diversity Hits An Alltime Career High.

The triumph of co-headlining with Bob Dylan in London in July and the tragic loss of Pegi Young: 1952 - 2019 and Elliot Roberts: 1943 - 2019. Such is the duality of Neil and the surreality of that duality.

All in a dream...

We took stock midway through 2019 in an epic post -- even by TW standards -- on A Happy 4th of July To All of Our "Children of Destiny": Some Commentary on Neil Young's 2017 Song , yet here we all are -- both irrevocably changed -- and yet still much the same as we ever were.

2019 had many amazing highlights as noted above for both Neil Young and Thrasher's Wheat.

We here at Thrasher's Wheat say thank you so much for all of the love and support over the past decades from the rustie fan communities.

Once again, we ponder that age old question: Is Neil burning out or fading away? We argue that he is neither. Neil Young is the quintessential survivor.

MOUNTAINTOP Film Premiere in Washington DC

We had our moments here on TW in 2019 as you can see both above and below. And we must be doing something right here at TW. Afterall, Facebook suspended our account back in 2015 and we continue to be blocked on a number of fronts when trying to exercise our freedom of speech. So little wheat (TRUTH). So much chaff (LIES/fake news). Even Neil Young declared: "Facebook is Toast at NYA" Says Neil Young.

But we've got a job to do. This is our journey, our self-appointed task. And we won't quit.

But we kid you not, that it is very, very hard to continue at times like these ...

Despite our losses, we continue. Nonetheless, we celebrate the music, achievements and all the good folks at Shakey Pictures. Onwards to 2020!

As for us? Well, Thrasher's Wheat will continue to celebrate Neil Young, his music and the fan community. So stay tuned for some hopefully exciting announcements in the months ahead as we celebrate our remarkable little milestone as the longest running music blog on the internet. So we'll see you down the road in 2020.

peace & love,

Thank you Thrashers Wheat for another year of unprecedented success. Neil is keeping us all entertained, while pushing forward to the next thing (whatever that might be). I’m looking forward to 2020 and NYA opening some cans of goodies for all of us to enjoy and digest in our own way. Neil has been a busy guy in 2019, and at 74 years old he has to be one of the most productive artists of any generation. I’m just so happy and grateful he’s still here with us. With so many of his contemporaries passing away, it’s just a reminder that we are all living on borrowed time, so while we’re still here, let’s celebrate everything. What was, and what is to come. Happy New Year to us all and let’s make sure we don’t forget our beautiful planet earth.

Thank you Thrasher for keeping the ship afloat for another year, and for once again putting up with my comments.

I've written a lot about Neil's music over the last few years, so as we near Christmas and 2020, here's something a bit different for a change. Something that is not specifically about Neil but about you, the reader.

Long-time followers of Thrasher's blog will have noticed my comments here can often be outspoken and provocative. Yes, I'm genuinely a passionate fan, but in truth I'm also a bit of an agitator. I'm interested in adding fuel to the fire, encouraging a lively and engaging atmosphere. You won't agree with all my comments (I'm not sure *I* agree with all of my comments), but at very least you have something to grapple with.

Writing is a form of creativity, and writing things down can also help clarify or expand our own thinking. Music is a rich part of our lives, but it's the context we paint it into that is most important. In life in general, we often feel mentally stuck. And sometimes, all we need is a new context; a new way of seeing how to move onwards.

Creativity and generosity aren't concepts limited to the Dylans and Cohens of this world, nor are they limited to those with private studios and private jets: we all have a brain with potential for our own personal art.

That deeper and richer part of the brain can feel so removed from our conscious self that we don't always realise it is there. But we all have it, and the first step to accessing it is by acknowledging that *YES!*, we actually want to and by putting pen to paper, paint to canvas, or fingers to the (faux) ivory keys.

The widely accepted understanding is that inspiration comes first, that we must wait around for our Muse to light up the way. This, of course, invites us to wonder whether we even have a talent, a Muse worth listening to. But perhaps if you start typing (or painting, or pounding out the piano chords) and keep going, inspiration and ability will start to take care of themselves. Perhaps it's not that surface first impression we need to hear, but something that has developed gradually from a period of momentum, just like Like A Hurricane and Greendale developed for Neil in years gone by.

So I'm looking forward to hearing what Neil comes up with in 2020, whether it is a relaxed year with more Archive releases, a year of new music, or something completely different; one of those exciting game-changing projects that comes along from time to time.

But I'm also looking forward to seeing what you, the reader, comes up with in 2020. Not just here on Thrasher's Neil-specific blog, but out there in the wider world. This December (when many but not all of us will be celebrating Christmas), the world is not the peaceful and inclusive place we'd like it to be, and for those who have something generous, thoughtful or inspiring to contribute, we need you now as much as ever.

Happy Christmas-time to you all, and all the best for a successful and generous 2020.

@ Scotsman - your words here are worth more to us than silver & gold.

similar to why you comment, is why we blog. it is an outlet, a release.

sometimes just a howl in the wilderness is all we can do. there is catharsis with this release of pixel characters into the aether of cyberspace.

we understand that nothing that is ever spoken is unheard. some call that prayers. some call that meditation.

might we all just be frustrated singer-songwriters? trying to sing our song and connect with an audience?

you mention "consciousness". it is quite a heavy term when you dig and unpack.

everyone goes around thinking "i'm awake. i'm conscious." sure, of course. but once the veil of the illusion is lifted, folks go omg?! i've been totally asleep all my life. it is quite a stunning experiences and is one of the primary reasons we gravitated to the rustie community b/c of the high levels of awareness. rusties are a gift. and we all know where the source of rustiness emanates so powerfully & viscerally.

as best we can tell after decades on this planet, this all we can do is connect and try and make a difference for the better. to separate the wheat from the chaff so to speak. it is our self appointed mission here @ TW.

so a very merry Christmas to you and all of our dear readers out there. we so look forward to more of your agitation here and elsewhere, Scotsman. we feel and hope that 2020 will bring the best of all.

Just a quick heads up....,.

....Today December 29th Neil has posted a photo of the TEST PRESSING for Homegrown on NYA. He says it is the first release for 2020, and it came with a note from the Reprise that said “this album is incredible”.

Peace and Happy New Year in two days.....

Thanks Dan & Babbo for updates.

Well, obviously Shakey never sleeps.
Normally, TW tries to take a holiday each year after posting our annual review. We have to say that in all the years covering Neil, we've never seen news come out between Christmas & New Years.

We'll work to get updated as soon as possible for new year.

Happy New Year to all and thanks for sharing & caring!

Mountaintop now switched to Jan. 11-12 (subject to further change, as always).

Also, the working 2020 release plan has been announced: Homegrown, NYA Vol. 2, expanded Eldorado, Greendale live (2003 concert film) and Crazy Horse Rust Bucket (Catalyst 1990).
