Comment of the Moment: Neil Young "Doubters" & "Believers"

With all of the recent whining by "The Doubters", here's the Comment of the Moment by a Believer "alli mac" from Neil Young News: Brisbane, AUS Concert Reviews: Neil Young & Crazy Horse, 3/7/13:
re: the negative comments -

people are people and some people just forget that what makes an artist truly great is their ability to continually grow, experiment,re-define themselves and in the process remain relevant to the times in which they live...

that neil young has managed to achieve this is evidenced by the extraordinarily diverse age range at last night's brisbane concert...

as for old guys getting off on themselves, for my money, there is no better experience than hearing music played by musicians that are actually using their music to communicate with each other - when they are enjoying themselves, the music comes together in a way that can rarely be conveyed in recorded versions.

Last night blew me away - i laughed, i have to admit i was also moved to tears, neil and crazy horse took me on a wild ride through my nostalgic past without being sentimental - then on into the world in which we live today, one where discord and harshness abounds - what an awe inspiring experience. May I never grow so old that i am unable to follow or acknowledge another's journey - this was music at its best - raw, occasionally humorous (why do i keep fucking up), acerbically political, and eternally relevant.

This was worth every penny and so well worth the wait!
Thanks alli mac! Nice to hear from "The Believers".

"The Believer" by Neil Young

I'm just a believer baby
In those dreams of mine
You see they just keep on comin'
In a long, long line

Oh yeah, I'm the believer
Oh yeah, I'm the believer

And like that songbird singin'
Whether it's red or blue
Just like those church bells ringin'
I'm keepin' my faith in you

Oh yeah, I'm the believer
Oh yeah, I believe in you

And though the seas may rise
Until they do
I keep doin' the things I'm doin'
And believe in you
I'm makin' the change
I'm keepin' my faith in you

Oh yeah, I'm the believer
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Sure is a windy road
That I walk with you
Look how the trees are bendin'
Their leaves are fallin' too

Oh yeah, oh yeah
I'm the believer, babe
Oh yeah

I remember my mama saying
I want to be
On this windy road
For eternity
I'm makin' the change
I'm keepin' my faith in you

Oh yeah, I'm the believer, babe
I believe in you
Oh yeah, I'm the believer, babe
I'm the believer
I'm the believer
Oh yeah
Oh yeah

I promised I wouldn't let myself get caught up in this, but here goes. I've been Neil Young Obsessed since about 1978 when I first heard American Stars and Bars, and I was at the Perth Arena show. For the record it was brilliant. My friend and her husband were at the show too. They'd heard of Neil and had received free tickets from her husband's employer for seats high up the side in the restricted view area. Apparently there were a whole bunch of people up there who got free tickets.

While my friends loved the show they were disappointed when he didn't sing 'Horse With No Name' (that's right, not even his song) and they didn't think 'that Effing Up song' (you know, F#ckin' Up) was really necessary. Apparently some of those around her with the free tickets were disgusted by F#ckin' Up and some left.

That is the calibre of those people who are whinging about the show. I don't know why we give them space on these pages. They don't even know Neil and Crazy Horse.

In contrast, my wife of 22 years has never liked Neil, but now a week on from the show I'm still catching her singing Hey Hey My My. I even caught her humming Like A Hurricane, which is really surprising because he didn't play it in Perth.

So can I say, there are no doubters. There are just a bunch of people who found themselves somewhere they knew nothing about, and are all too quick to jump on social media sites to demonstrate how little they know.

Can I also say I'm now off to Melbourne, a 7000 kilometre round trip to catch Neil two more times before he finishes up the Australian tour.

No amount of Neil is ever enough.
