Comment of the Moment: Mick Jagger on Politics in Music

Mick Jagger
 (Click photo to enlarge)

Something a little different here.

Our Comment of the Moment is from thread "Neil Young Patron ZOOM Call Update: Archives Volume 4 Release + Moreby Knowledge Nomad:

There's a really good interview with Mick Jagger in the New York Times that was posted this week (https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/11/magazine/mick-jagger-interview.html) Definitely worth a listen. But, for the purposes of Neil Young fans, there's a few times when he mentions that getting political in your songs is probably best dropping hints at and being tangential to your writing because the public doesn't want to hear it.

"Interviewer: I want to put the question in slightly different terms. There’s a movie performance of yours that I love, in “The Man From Elysian Fields.” You play a middle-aged man who runs an escort service. That performance has a lot of regret in it, and I assume that you wouldn’t have been able to give a performance like that earlier in your life. So, similarly, are there things that you can do in a song or did on the new album that make you think, Oh, I wasn’t capable of inhabiting that lyric earlier?

Mick: That’s a good question. It requires a lot of thought to give a good answer. I wouldn’t have written any of these songs when I was 30, honestly. And I’ve also gotten into this habit of doing songs that are about personal relationships and then I throw a verse about politics in there. That’s a trick that I’ve learned from other songwriters, because nobody wants to hear a whole song about politics or social comment. A blues song like “Rough and Twisted,” you talk about women and everything, but then you throw in stuff that’s obviously political: “The only club was called conspiracy.” “What they wanted was tyranny.” So you find yourself using these tricks."

And again:

"Interview: There are a handful of political lines sprinkled throughout the new record. You sing about scuttling billionaires “scrambling to their bolt-holes in the sky,” about dirty rat autocrats and rubber-stamping judges. I find it heartening to know that Mick Jagger sees the same problems as the rest of us. Can you tell me more about what you’re seeing when you look around the world?

Mick: It’s not the first time I’ve done songs with social comment. I like doing it, but in small doses. It’s pop music, you know. “Ringing Hollow” is completely social comment. But even then, I had two songs that were on the same subject, which is my love of America."

So, clearly Neil takes a different approach. As do many other great musicians both contemporary and historically. But, does Mick have a point? Certainly the formula that has worked for the Stones is to eschew much social commentary, and Mick, at least, is aware enough [how many rock stars have attended the London School of Economics and Political Science and read Kant?] that he most certainly could do more social commentary.

My own take is, which isn't particularly deep, there is indeed an audience for music with social commentary, but also that it's understandable that even those with a taste for social commentary in their music also like music that doesn't fit that description. I've got room in my collection for the Stones, Neil, Nina, Jesse Welles, Shinyribs, etc.
Thanks for the comment Knowledge Nomad. That's two CotM's in the past week, so congratulations. We very appreciate the thoughtful observations here on TW. Especially on one of our long running topics -- Politics in Music.

We watched the interview, as well and encourage others to as well.  Mick gets a bit into Bruce Springsteen and his audience.  Essentially, Mick says The Stones "don't lecture their audiences."

Good advice Mick. While we here @ TW may have lectured our audiences on occasion in the past, we feel that temptation has been squashed more recently -- for better or worse -- depending on your perspective.  That is, if you're picking up on what we're putting down.

"Battle of Two Songs: Anti-Trump Neil Young vs. Black Pro-Trump Lloyd Marcus" | RenewAmerica.com

"Lookin' for a Leader" (2020)
(Updated lyrics + Original 2006 Music Video below)

We are becoming increasingly concerned that various artists and musicians are being very slowly drawn into the ongoing Civil War/Living With War v2.0 drama.

We will explain further in greater detail the basis for this observation, but 1st -- the latest salvo in the Young v Trump skirmishes: "Battle of Two Songs: Anti-Trump Neil Young vs. Black Pro-Trump Lloyd Marcus" on RenewAmerica.com.

Last week, Young criticized Trump‘s leadership of the U.S. in a lyrical rewrite of his 2006 track “Lookin’ for a Leader” during his Porch Session earlier this month.

Trump Train 2020 by Lloyd Marcus

In response, Lloyd Marcus has challenged both Neil Young and President Trump with his song "Trump Train 2020".

Trump Train 2020 by Lloyd Marcus

Lloyd Marcus writes the following on RenewAmerica.com:
Dear Patriots.

It is time to step up and push back. Neil Young unleashed a song ripping Trump, “Lookin' for a Leader 2020.” (See also: "Neil Young Just Offered Trump a New Recording of One of His Songs to Play at His Rallies, and It's Savage")

We who love America must fight back with my song, “Trump Train 2020.”

The same way I fired up audiences by performing my “American Tea Party Anthem” at over 500 tea party rallies and events, my high-energy “Trump Train 2020” will do the same. It will inspire Americans to jump onboard the Trump Train.

Please help alert the Trump campaign about the, “Trump Train 2020” song. Ask that I perform it at his rallies. Also, spread the music video far and wide.

Marxists declared war against America. They are pulling out all the stops to defeat Trump in November. If they are successful, we all know our beloved America as founded will be gone forever.

All of us must use our God-given, gifts, talents and intellect to push back to save our country. Help me use my gift for the good of our country by promoting the “Trump Train 2020” song.

Thanks and God bless.

Here are Neil Young's updated lyrics for “Lookin’ for a Leader”.

“Lookin’ for a Leader” - new lyrics

“We had Barack Obama and we really need him now.
The man who stood behind him now has to take his place somehow
America has a leader building walls around our house
Don’t know Black Lives Matter and we gotta vote him out.

We got our election but corruption has a chance
We got to have a big win to regain confidence
America is beautiful/But she has an ugly side

We’re looking for a leader for this country far and wide
Just like his big new fence
This president’s going down
America is moving forward
You can feel it in every town

Scared of his own shadow
building walls around our house
He’s hiding in his bunker
Something else to lie about.”

In response to this challenge, Donald Trump Used 3 Neil Young Songs At Mount Rushmore Event.

On July 3, 2020, Donald Trump used 3 Neil Young songs at the Mount Rushmore Event: “Rockin In The Free World” (2X, before and after), “Like a Hurricane”and “Cowgirl in the Sand”.

And -- again -- Neil Young has expressed his strong opposition to Donald Trump's use of his music, tweeting: “This is NOT ok with me…” (More details, footage and commentary here.)

Here is the original music video for Neil Young's “Lookin’ for a Leader” from the 2006 album "Living With War".

"Lookin' for a Leader" (2006)

U.S. Republican Presidents Richard Nixon, George Bush, Sr. (#1), Ronald Reagan

We bring this all up because we know that Neil Young has practically built a career on going after Republican Presidents -- from President Richard Nixon in 1970 with the CSNY song "Ohio" to President Ronald Reagan in 1980 with the album "Hawks & Doves" to President George Bush #1 with the iconic song "Rockin' In The Free World" and on to President George Bush #2 with the album "Living With War" and the oh-so inflammatory song and subtle as a flamethrower song "Let's Impeach The President".

So back to our original conCERN above regarding the ongoing Civil War/Living With War v2.0 drama. To be blunt, FWIW, we have all been here before, so deja vu all over again and again, our friends.

Here's a comment we made earlier this year: (Note, edited for clarity)
This is simply more of the same old divide and conquer rhetoric spiffed up to ride along with the latest hate vehicle of the day. The false illusion dialect of the left-right duality is just another trap you've fallen into yet again.

As we commented on another thread awhile ago, anyone with eyes wide open can see, everything seems to be going according to The Plan. Civil War 2.0

Trust us, the Powers That Be want this so bad. The desperation is so palpable that they even dragged out the same 60's script.

  1. Have a white man murder a black man in broad daylight.
  2. CHECK
  3. Rev up a fake controlled opposition.
  4. CHECK
  5. Flood the inner cities with cheap drugs, then destroy neighborhoods by burning at night w/riots and looting.
  6. CHECK CHECK
  7. And then top it off w/ launching a manned rocket into space as a distraction to the war on the invisible enemy.
  8. CHECK
  9. Bring in the National Guard.
  10. CHECK
  11. Impeach The President.
  12. CHECK (Almost)

[1960's / 2020:

  1. MLK-James Earl Ray/Floyd George-Police Officer Chauvin
  2. Black Panthers/ Black Lives Matter
  3. Heroin, Newark, Watts, etc/Opiods, Mpls, Portland, etc
  4. Apollo 11-Vietnam-Communism/SpaceX-Afghanistan, etc-Germs-CV19
  5. Kent State, OH/Lafayette Square,DC
  6. Nixon/Trump

Wash, Rinse, Repeat]

Don't fall for it again. Everyone should've learned a lot from the 60's, hope so, but guess not?
So we're at about Step #5, which actually was where this all started but failing that, the Plan moved ahead anyways. (Here's an expanded comment on the subject of the ages old "divide & conquer" control technique -- which has been highly perfected and augmented by our clever and cunning little smart phones, whipping everyone into a frenzy with every ping notification. Playing the two sides off of one another against the middle is an age old strategy that everyone needs to recognize. Case in point.

Don't believe us? Same as it ever was ...

Divide and Conquer - Ancient Egyptian Painting(Click image to enlarge)

Well, we knew it was going to a long, hot summer. It usually always is, right? You know, there's a reason why Lookout Mama always says: "It's all illusion anyway."

So, just Keep Calm, No Fear, Shut It Down, and Keep on Rockin'! #BeTheRain

So, thrasher, how exactly do you stay calm, we are often asked?

Neil Young's Open Letter To President Trump

A Letter To President Trump
via Neil Young Archives

In the ongoing contretemps and escalating between Neil Young and U.S. President Donald Trump,Neil has posted an open letter to President Trump on Neil Young Archives.
A Letter To President Trump

7-6-20

Dear Mr. President:

Although I have repeatedly asked you to please not use my music because it indicates that I support your agenda, you have always played my songs anyway at your gatherings, with no regard for my rights, even calling me names on twitter.

I did notice that you played my music at your latest rally in Dakota despite my previous requests.

Because you are in charge of the Covid 19 response here in the USA, I will not sue you, (as certainly is my right) potentially distracting from your important work at hand protecting and saving American lives. With the enormous power you wield on our behalf, I wish you all the best in your critical battle to save American souls from this threat. I know you will do your best for all Americans, regardless of political leanings. I give you my encouragement in your efforts to Unify America.

I suggest you listen to my song ‘Looking For a Leader 2020,” available on my website, neilyoungarchives.com as part of a work I recently completed with my wife- ‘The Porch Episode,’ as I believe it would be an interesting addition to your next rally.

With respect for your office,

Comment of the Moment: Donald Trump Uses 3 Neil Young Songs At Mount Rushmore Event

UPDATED

President Trump and 1st Lady Melania Trump at Mount Rushmore on July 3, 2020

On July 3, 2020, Donald Trump used 3 Neil Young songs at the Mount Rushmore Event: “Rockin In The Free World” (2X, before and after), “Like a Hurricane”and “Cowgirl in the Sand”.

And -- again -- Neil Young has expressed his strong opposition to Donald Trump's use of his music, tweeting: “This is NOT ok with me…” (More details, footage and commentary here.)

All of which -- naturally -- created much angst and drama across the lands. In fact, our TW tweets saw the highest number of impressions ever since we started using the tweetverse.

(Incidentally, numbers add up to nothin'.)

Now, onto the TW Comment of the Moment on Donald Trump Uses 3 Neil Young Songs At Mount Rushmore Event by Greg "A Friend Of Yours":

For starters, I guess I would agree that the polite, gracious thing to do would be to honor someone’s request when it comes to something like this, but then Donald Trump is not a polite, gracious man when it comes down to brass tacks, which is exactly the mindset the powers behind him had in mind when they approached him to run for the Presidency, something he had to be convinced into doing.

He’s clearly not a politician, he’s a disrupter- again something his backers were looking for, something long honed as a negotiating tactic in order to bring out people’s real positions, and real objections. Bluster, bad manners, self aggrandizing statements, buffoonery, and more- crazy like a fox.

What is the urgent crisis at hand requiring brass tacks? Well, take a look at what Rockin’ In The Free World chronicles (incidentally, a song that calls out the man many people believe JFK Jr.- a close personal friend of Trump, had identified as being at the very center of his fathers public execution- a man whose party aligned politics, along with the democrats, is the very thing that Trump is standing up against, but never mind that for now). Whatever else you think about the songs meaning, its upshot is that despite all the attacks on freedom, you have to still stand up and fight for what you think is right, and wrong or right, many people believe this is exactly what Trump is doing, including myself. As I’ve said elsewhere, how is it that no one short of a Donald Trump could be found to lead the charge of the behind the scenes patriots in this last ditch effort to oppose the tyranny of globalism, and the Federal Reserve Bank? "Drain the swamp," rend asunder the Deep State, the Shadow Government. How is it that no one possessed of any backbone, not bought and paid for, no establishment figure not compromised in one way, shape, or form, can be found to do the right thing?

Can anyone deny that the country is not in a metaphorical “Hurricane” at the moment? Notwithstanding Neil’s objections, I think the song choices are right on.

The more pertinent to me song choice is Devils Sidewalk, a metaphor for the battle raging against good and evil, a battle that clearly defines the Civil War and second American Revolution the country is currently right smack in the middle of, in addition to the larger struggle being waged on a world wide basis- a struggle that traces its origins all the way back to the Tower of Babel, but, better not go there, except to say that Thrashers oft alluded to “Big Shift” weighs in the balance- the Great Awakening, the much needed shift in consciousness, Ascension, etc.

Anyways, I thought about it for a bit last night after reading this post, and the comments, and though I didn’t have the time to really go into it, from my memory of Devils Sidewalk I wasn’t perplexed by the song choice at all. Nor was I surprised by the other choices, although Cowgirl In The Sand?, that doesn’t quite fit in other than “Be on my side, I’ll be on your side,” I guess. Dunno. Sure, for the average person, heck, even for some Neil fans, it’s a relatively obscure cut off a relatively obscure album, but evidently Trump is not the average person when it comes to knowledge of Neil, and very likely neither is someone(s) somewhere on his campaign team.

Just take a close look at the incredible lyrics. It describes the devil dining on the “streets of hate,” and the captain sounding the warning to a crew who would rather focus on a “woman delicious.” Never mind, there is no metaphorical devil, no streets of hate. Some things aren’t getting better or worse, and there’s nothing to avoid, as long as we have so many toys to enslave- I mean, divert our attention. “There’s a garden growing… And a million weeds… With no way of knowing… Who has done which deed.” Sound like an “invisible enemy,” sound like something Trump is always on about? An enemy that, throughout republican and democrat administrations alike, has successfully sought to destroy America’s industrial base, so that globalism’s new engine of empire, China, can be built up? You wouldn’t want to trumpet those sentiments walking into a car factory in Michigan, would you? There is so much more to say, but I’ll leave it at this- there is a lot of grist for the mill here, and strange as it may seem, there is more than enough there in the lyrics to match up with the real world crisis that Trump and his backers are trying to wage war against, whether you like him or not, and you will never understand the man and what he is attempting to do, if you don’t understand the battle against evil that is being waged. But, if you just can’t stomach so disagreeable a man co-opting songs that make the honest attempt to call out evil for what it is, then ignore it.

Don’t give it the attention that will blow it up into something more than it is. But, again, notwithstanding Neil’s objections, I’m fine with it.

A Friend Of Yours
Thanks so much for sharing the comments here AFOY. It's been awhile and we appreciate your dropping by with your thoughts.

There's just so much to unpack in all of this that probably for the 1st time in 25 years of running TW, we're totally scattered on where to turn next while watching this slow motion train wreck. If only Neil and the Horse had been on the road this summer as planned, we would be out on the rail flying our colors. But, alas ...

We did make a few comments and asked some questions after our annual 4th of July post got clobbered to the back seat by the latest Donald-Neil news. So if you missed that in all of the fireworks, check that post out on A Happy 4th of July To All of Our "Children of Destiny": Stay Calm & Enjoy - UPDATED.

So, -- FWIW -- what's happening here? Because, whatever it is, it ain't exactly clear.

There are those that do not see this as much more than just a political appropriation of an artists work by a politician. Another ripoff, so nothing new, really. But it strikes us all as a bit too odd and almost contrived.

Last week, Young criticized Trump‘s leadership of the U.S. in a lyrical rewrite of his 2006 track “Lookin’ for a Leader” during Porch Session earlier this week. (See link for lyrics update.) Now Trump's Mount Rushmore event. What will be next in this 4 year battle of ever escalating tensions?

Can a Neil-Donald truce be achieved? Should someone hold peace talks between the two? Maybe Willie could volunteer to moderate?

When this all started at the very beginning of Trump's campaign with his escalator ride to the strains of RITFW, it seemed rather straightforward. Candidate A purchases playback rights to a song library. simple. Neil's music is in that library for anyone to purchase, no matter the cause.

As we understand things (and please correct us) if Neil doesn't want his music used for event playback purposes, he has to withdraw from the arrangement. From what we gather, Neil has asked a specific candidate not to be allowed to purchase his music. But again that's not how the system works. It's all or none. He can't allow Bernie Sanders to purchase his music rights and not someone else. Again, please correct us. (Note, as background, some of the intricacies of licensing music are discussed here in 2016 on "'Fuck You, Donald Trump" Says Neil Young Onstage; Posts Video Clip to His Facebook Page.)

Neil Young Endorses Bernie Sanders for President + Trashes Facebook, Again | NYA

Neil Young on January 23, 2020

In January 2020, Neil Young became a U.S. citizen.

Becoming a U.S. citizen would allow Neil to "vote my conscious on Donald J. Trump". Now, Neil Young has endorsed Bernie Sanders for President writing on Viewpoint | NYA that “In 2016, if Bernie had run instead of Hillary Clinton, I think we would not have the incompetent mess we have now.”

Image via NYA

Neil Young also took the opportunity to trash Facebook -- again, writing:
“Facebook is full of bots and trolls.

It’s not America. Forget social media. Ignore it and replace it with truth. I don’t believe the Facebook social media cesspool of lies, disinformation from other counties and misleading comments. I believe Bernie Sanders.

I think Bernie Sanders is the Real Deal.”

Chrissie Hynde and Neil Young: Rock of the Aged Protesters | National Review

Chrissie Hynde & Neil Young
The Pretenders Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Neil Young - 2005
(Click photo to enlarge)

A rather provocative article on the politics of Chrissie Hynde and Neil Young.

Claiming that Neil Young is a "rock-and-roll bully" and Chrissie Hynde is "an American pragmatist with a heart of gold", the article Neil Young and Chrissie Hynde: Rock of the Aged Protesters | National Review by Armond White hits all sorts of discordant notes.

The setup is Neil Young's "Open Letter to Donald Trump" saying: ‘You Are a Disgrace to My Country’ and Chrissie Hynde's tweet to President Trump on Julian Assange's extradition.

From Neil Young and Chrissie Hynde: Rock of the Aged Protesters | National Review by Armond White:
Both artists stepped outside their usual medium of the rock-and-roll record that brought them fame; their passion and creativity won our attention and instilled our fondness. Politics is not what we want from them, though, except in compelling tunes that describe the human condition and sustain our moral beliefs. Who doesn’t like “Heart of Gold” and “Brass in Pocket”? Who can resist the former’s sensitivity or the latter’s scintillation?

Pop music no longer represents the counterculture. Rolling Stone magazine hasn’t caught on, but it’s time that rock-and-roll politics change and shift.

Only the recent antagonism in current affairs of state could cause crowd-pleasers Young and Hynde to draw such startling political contrasts and reveal their divergent, individual styles. Pop artists are not role models so much as bellwethers of human potential, and though it’s usually best to ignore their off-stage actions, the two musicians’ difference in behavior can reveal our moral and political options.
National Review's White suggests that both Hynde and Young work their messaging on liberal or conservative audiences and that "Hynde trumps Young because her middle-American brashness instills a blue-collar noblesse oblige greater than Young’s Canadian guilelessness." It should be noted that author White seems to misinterpret Young's song "Rockin' in the Free World", which is a critique of America under George H.W. Bush. In addition, "Rockin' in the Free World" came out in 1989 on the album Freedom -- not after 9/11/01.

Neil Young To Become An American Citizen

Neil Young
photo by DH Lovelife/Courtesy of the artist

"Canadian" Neil Young will become an American citizen next month.

From At 74, Neil Young will finally become an American citizen: ‘We’ve got a climate emergency’ | LA Times by RANDY LEWIS
“I’ve passed all the tests; I’ve got my appointment, and if everything goes as planned, I’ll be taking the oath of citizenship” shortly after turning 74 on Nov. 12. The salient point being, “I’ll be able to vote,” said Young, who has lived roughly two-thirds of his life in the U.S. since arriving in Los Angeles in the mid-’60s and first making his mark on the rock ’n’ roll landscape with Buffalo Springfield.

“I’m still a Canadian; there’s nothing that can take that away from me,” he said. Young was at a studio in Santa Monica where he and his wife, activist-actress Daryl Hannah, assembled their new film, “Mountaintop,” documenting the recording of Young’s latest album, “Colorado,” which arrives Oct. 25.

“But I live down here; I pay taxes down here; my beautiful family is all down here — they’re all Americans, so I want to register my opinion” about this country.

Oh Canada!

FWIW, Neil Young has a word or 2 to say about U.S. politics from north of the border via California ...

more to come ... for sure ...

Neil Young Splits The Difference on Times-Contrarian | NYA

Neil Young is splitting the difference on Times-Contrarian | Neil Young Archives.

In today's Times-Contrarian, the headlines reflect both a Left and Right viewpoint on Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s report on President Donald Trump's "Russian Collusion". The front page editorial content marks a notable shift to a "balanced" perspective. While it is unclear whether this is just a blip or foreshadowing of greater balance, it undoubtedly will trigger some -- as everything seems to do these days -- no matter how inconsequential or trivial.

The last time Neil Young tried to maintain balance was back in 2006 during the "Living With War" album launch and the massive blowback from the release.

Living With War by Neil Young - 2006 (Reviews and Commentary)

Once completed, Neil played the album for his label Reprise and than immediately gave a live interview to CNN. For many fans, this was Neil at his finest -- speaking truth to power.

"Living With War" would eventually become rock's "Fahrenheit 9/11".

His website Living with War Today presented perspectives from a wide range of opinions while featuring downloadable protest songs written and performed by songwriter/performers from all over the world.

Thrasher's Wheat highlighted on Neil Young's
"LIVING WITH WAR TODAY" website

Here at Thrasher's Wheat, we've previously discussed the false choice driven by "controlled opposition" where the Left and Right is really a duality trap. Divide and Rule. With control over both the Left and Right messaging, voters are herded into the choice of "The Controllers" either way. They win, we lose. (Or -- if you prefer -- Northern Man, Southern Man and The Un-Civil Wars of Donald Trump & Neil Young.)

But we digress... (but if you want more, here are our thoughts on proposals and solutions or

Northern Man, Southern Man and The Un-Civil Wars of Donald Trump & Neil Young

Northern Man and Southern Man?
Donald Trump & Neil Young - 2014

UPDATE:

Such is the duality of Neil and the "surreality of that duality"...

KEEP ON ROCKIN' IN THE FREE WORLD - 11/6/18

Full message via Neil Young's Archives (NYA) Times-Contrarian

As the U.S. of A. heads towards Election Day 2018 on Tuesday, November 6, Neil Young and his wife Daryl Hannah have created a new video for the CSN&Y song “Ohio”.

The video uses concert footage from the recent solo tour and seeks to help bring about “common sense gun control laws.”

On his website Neil Young archives (NYA) Times-Contrarian , Neil writes:
“With no real laws protecting us from guns, and with politicians supporting the NRA because the NRA supports them, we are not well represented,” Young wrote on his official website. “Today’s students are brave, demanding change in violent times. We stand with them. They are us. We are them. This has been going on for too long. My wife Daryl and I put this video together for you to reflect on. Support the students. Support our children. They want protection. No more guns.”
(More on The power of Neil Young’s “Ohio” in 2018: Why the Kent State protest anthem remains so relevant.)

The state of protest music today -- as we've known for sometime -- is in a pretty abysmal state, as has been well documented. (See The TRUTH Why Modern Music Is Awful — It’s More Mind Control Than Music | SITS, How Most Popular Music Keeps You In An Unconscious Egoic State | SITS.)

Students and National Guard Clash at Kent State, Ohio - May 4, 1970

So how did we go from Kent State, Ohio to Charlottesville, Virginia? From May 4, 1970 to August 12, 2017? A nearly 50 year span and yet...

Politically motivated terror/murder isn't something that suddenly appeared. Sadly, killing children -- as an example to send a message -- never seems to go out of style.

"First they came for Thrasher's Wheat,
and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Neil Young fan.

Then they came for Alex Jones,
and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a white male conspiracy theorist.

Then they came for Oprah Winfrey,
and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a black female social justice warrior.

Then they came for Neil Young,
and I didn’t speak up, because I was Donald Trump voter.

Then they came for me,
and by that time there was no one left to speak up for me."

"Children of Destiny" - Neil Young + Promise of the Real

For us, we try to be wise enough not to “feed the chaos” further with our own fear, anger, or hate. For our own sake, we try to turn our backs and head towards what is true and pure and loving. We try as best we can to devote our lives to that which makes us happy, healthy, and complete. We are all made to enjoy music, nature, beauty, and the company of our loved ones. We try to live the life we believe is right, no matter the consequences. Without fear and with unconditional love.

Our plan is to continue forward and keep on bloggin' until the power goes out and our battery's dead. Thanks to all of you who support what we do here at Thrasher's Wheat. Thank you all for your contributions, support, and helpful efforts throughout the year. We can’t begin to tell you how much we appreciate every single one of you as you manage to keep us refreshed, stimulated, and stepping through your constant sharing of ideas that nudge us onward. We couldn't do it without you. Again, we don't want to sound paranoid that forces are at work to shutdown our advertising, deprive us of revenue, and thwart our freedom of communication. But at the same time, we can't brush all this off in a blase fashion. On the bright side, we consider this to be another validation of a sort of what we do here at TW. In the past, the attacks on this site have reinforced our belief that we have taken the less traveled fork in the road on our journeys.

So believe in what we both together are doing. Knowing we can succeed. Our time is coming. Nothing will stop this now with love in our hearts. Make peace our goal, and vow to be true to ourselves. Working to create a world that we can be proud of, and that which we helped to create. May the beautiful energy of music and love surround you and yours, and let it be your traveling muse and guiding light. That is our wish for our world today ... and tomorrow. Look at everything with the eyes of love and we will create harmony and peace.

FOUND: Hearts of Gold
An Island in the Sun Under a Rainbow

Dreams can come true... if you want to work hard to make them happen. We are all making a difference together and feel the world is taking notice. Having said this, let’s all prepare for what is to come in what we believe will be a future of positive, lasting change.

this blog is my blog, this blog is your blog, this blog was made for you & me.

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
~~ Benjamin Franklin, Pennsylvania Assembly Reply to the Governor, 1755

But really, the bottom line -- The Big Secret -- is that it's all about The Bridge Kids. Seriously.

We try and stay grounded in nature, enjoy Mother Earth and be in tune with her harmony. We translate this beauty into love and care towards others while seeking deeper truths and discovering our true awakened, enlightened spirit.

Afterall, it's all about you and me...
