Neil Young and Crazy Horse - Cinnamon Girl (and Translation Girl) 2012 ACL MUSIC FESTIVAL
Another remarkable highlight is the CG video. See about 4:00 min or so when Neil Young goes over to stage left.
There's a translator in lower left corner who totally jams out and NY follows along. Very funny & touching.
I wanna live with a "Translation Girl"
I could be happy the rest of my life
with a "Translation Girl"...

check it out!!!!!!!
amazing video and audio feed. didn't know this was coming. go to the festival site: if you can't make it to a show on this tour, I think this may be the next best thing. crossing my fingers. awesome link thrasher!!
NY&CH just put a festival audience through 10 minutes of complete kaos and feedback on WLAG - freeking awesome. Nobody on earth would try that to a bunch of drunk 25 year olds at the end of a festival day. I think they are speechless - or just freaked out. If I didn't know it was coming, I would be pretty freaked out.
Looking forward to ramada inn!!!
thank god for high speed internet!!
Its obvious that poncho and Billy are fully aware that Ramada Inn may be one of the best songs Neil ever wrote, and its obviously a blast for them to play it. Poncho is pushing Neil - something I don't recall before. But the band appears to actually be challenging Neil to take it to a higher level - love it. LUV IT.
Possibly the coolest experience ever with live internet: NY&CH rocking out, and Jack White and his amazing band of "chicks". clicking back and forth. perfect feed, amazing audio. props to Austin City Limits!!!! As good as Neil is, White is pretty F'g amazing.
How could you put both of these shows on at the same time??
If you are just turning in, DOWN BY THE RIVER!!!!
GO TO THE SITE IMMEDIATELY. PERFECT AUDIO AND VIDEO.
You just missed what may be the best version of down by the river ever recorded - ever.
That was pretty cool when Neil dropped down to his knees at the end of DBTR. Then Billy got down on his knees too while Poncho hunched over into a very low huddle formation.
All the while wailing away.
the force of the horse continues...
Peace and love to you Thrasher for making an old man's saturday night a real treasure - these sorts of things don't just happen every night. It was like being there. The close up camera work was simply fantastic. Any yes, folks, Neil really did lose his voice at the very end of DBTR - which made it that much more special. I feel sorry for the output tubes in Neil's deluxe.
I love how soulful the band is....you gotta give it up to them for still going out there and giving it their all. Words can't properly describe how amazing it is to have these concerts streamed online for free and to see the band up close...just like a concert DVD.
They've still got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dont know where else to post this..I am a sailor in the Navy and wont be able to make it to a Neil and Crazy Horse show the rest of this tour (due to leaving for sea) I wanted to know if there was anyone going to a show in the next few weeks that could possibly get me a shirt? I really would love to to walk around my submarine rocking a new neil and crazy horse tshirt! if so please email me (kevanchuck@yahoo.com)I will pay you double whatever you pay for the shirt..I just want one (size medium) from this tour. So if some other neil fans want to help a sailor out hit me up! Much love, Kyle.
Thrasher
Thanks for the tweet. The best two hours of my night. The Horse were EPIC tonight. DBTR was unreal. And the crowd wanted more after Hey Hey My My. I can't wait for the Philly show!!!
Neil played the Austin City Limits television show in 1984 (I saw the original broadcast way back) with the International Harvesters. And that one hour show included a really really cool version of DBTR - yup - there's something about Austin....
I just got home. Speechless.
Down By The River ... recognized it the second the first note was played and completely lost my mind.
Have seen him 4 times on this tour, and it just gets better and better. The finale of Hey Hey, My My, simply phenomenal. Wanted them to come back and keep playing all night long.
When Neil came out wearing a Willie Nelson hat, I was wondering if Willie would make an appearance. Wasn't to be, but no complaints are possible.
Did anyone notice Neil's right wrist had an Ace bandage; hope he's fine & not injured; he still played fine.
I noticed that bandage at the Red Rocks shows, and he's had it on for the whole tour. It is either a precaution, or some permanent issue, or maybe both.
And like someone said above, what morons scheduled Jack White and Neil at the same time? I had to miss Jack, will try and get into his ACL Live taping tomorrow.
The first concert i saw was in 1968, the legendary "Moby Grape", i've seen just about everyone and no one, i mean no one is comparable to Neil Young (and Crazy Horse, or C,S,N & Y); He is,they r the "Greatest show on earth, hands down, Neil and your music kept me alive and gave me something to hold on to during the Vietnam War when i was in the USMC< i I LOVE U NEIL, UR THE GREATEST SINCE THE 60'S AND OVER 5 DECADES LATER U STILL CARRY THE TORCH. BLESS U BRO, Congo congo2001nata@yahoo.com
Listening to the concert stream while writing, absolutely amazing stuff, great sound great singing and playing. HOPE Neil takes the Horse to Europe. If not scandinavia I´ll go wherever...

Rusties: I highly recommend that you check out some of the video coverage of the Jack White set. ACL has some stuff up on youtube and it is sensational, such as this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4m3oEeD_Tg&feature=plcp
When you think about how much crap there is out there in the music business today, you have this shining light of creative brilliance - sorta like somebody else we know and luv :).
Somebody has to grab the torch, and thank god for bands like White and the Black Keys for giving hope in the autotune and hip-hop-crap era.
Neil sounds great, but its pretty obvious that he only has one maybe two more tours in him. White and his band of hot babes gives me goosebumps. And so does Ramada Inn. 2012 is a good year...
Another remarkable highlight is the CG video above. See about 4:00 min or so when NY goes over to stage left.

Gotta see "Translation Girl".
Just saw Neil in Chicago and was blown away. This set from ACL was even better. DBTR was EPIC.
These guys are on FIRE!
The show is evolving each night into something better than the night before. Unbelievable, well, maybe not. We've ome to expecct alot from Neil and dammit, he keeps taking it up. What a performer, and what a human being. He is in tune with what's going on. LOVE the tranlation girl thing. He is ALWAYS in the moment, especially with the Horse.LONG LIVE NEIL YOUNG AND CRAZY HORSE
That Cinnamon Girl video is pure gold!
so that was awesome. neil dropping to his knees during dbtr was epic. a full two hour set, climaxing with some of the most insane noise i've heard these guys do. and the crowd (looked like a bunch of young-uns, hee hee) ate that shit up. EPIC.
but a word to neil and his team, if yer out there. you have twitter and facebook accounts. why did you not give your followers a heads up about this? i emailed thrasher about the link, he didn't even know, and for a while there i thought he wouldn't even pass the info along. hell, i didn't even know about the webcast until yesterday morning. i checked out the schedule a couple of weeks ago when it was announced and they did not have neil listed. i figured, "oh well". glad neil and his crew changed their minds, but still it would have been nice to let some other folks see that EPIC performance.
Thanks Dominic! We were behind the curve on this one. Glad we were able to pass along and enjoy.
Seeing that giant Canadian flag waving in TX must've brought out the best of NY.
The knee dropping was simply jaw dropping.
And still smiling over the "Translation Girl" sequence. The YT captures that better than webcast.
They only announced that Neil was added to the webcast on Saturday morning, so Thrasher not knowing is totally reasonable.
I stood in the pouring rain about 30 people back. Was next to a uber Neil nerd from DC. He made my Neil fandom look absurd, since I also flew to San Fran for Outside Lands (and he obviously flew to Austin for this).. but his ability to rattle of Neil facts at his friends was awesome.
Anyway, the show was fantastic. Beyond fantastic. I was a little closer in San Fran, but the band was on fire last night. The soloing and running around by Neil was awesome. I completely lost my mind multiple times.
Looking forward to one more show at MSG in November. Figure I have to be there for Thanksgiving anyway, so I'm sticking around for Neil & The Horse.
Noticed at the end when the boys were taking a bow Neil did a big inhale with a wry smile on his face and said something, probably along the lines of, " Oh man, smell that Austin garfong....might have to fall off the wagon on the bus...where's Willie?"
Here's the audio-only of Down by the River: http://www.glidemagazine.com/hiddentrack/neil-young-crazy-horse-busts-out-down-by-the-river/
Oh, and since Jack White was brought up above, found it odd reading that he ended his set 15-minutes before their allotted 90-minute time.
Jack White is back on for another set tonight to close the festival. check them out. pretty cool stuff with great audio.

that wasn't another jack white set, just a replay of saturday's set. good stuff, but as mentioned before he only played for about 75 minutes. saw iggy and the stooges webcast yesterday...it veered wildly between horrible and awesome. if you think neil looks old these days, at least he wears a shirt.
Video of Neil & Crazy Horse's full set: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaFnHVu2TY4
Actually it's not the full set, only most of it! Spoke too soon.
Re: Jack White's shortened set. I just read a review stating that he ended his set early for Neil, and the last thing he said before he left the stage was "God bless Neil Young". I have long thought that these two were very similar in their stance on music - analog only, honest to god rock and roll, and even the high pitched voice (both of which are inimitable). Couple that with the fact Jack is playing Bridge School this year and now to hear these comments from him, it's nice to know that they do share an admiration for eachother. Jack collaborates with so many great artists. I'd kill to see these two greats jam on the same stage!

I am just watching this now, here:
http://youtu.be/xaFnHVu2TY4
The horse is on fire, they sound very well rehearsed and tight. And Neil's voice is in surprisingly good shape. It's the best he's sounded in a long time.
Neil tuning in on Translator Girl.
So fleeting.
So then or now.
So without-a-doubt-fucking-right for the moment!
She's a Cinnamon Girl and she doesn't even know it for STANDING RIGHT UP TO NEIL! 99.99999% of all other girls in the world would have blushed and crumpled. She fucking went for it right then and there. Just think about it, Neil calls out to his Cinnamon Girl at the beginning of the song. Everybody is thinking of Pegi, but it ends up being -- TRANSLATOR GIRL!! This is right up there in my top list of all Neil moments.
I went with my girlfriend to the Austin City Limits Music Festival. Three days, but we only attended Saturday, because Traci wanted to see her favorite The Shins (they were REALLY good) and of course I wanted to see and hear that ol' Horse a-gallop... The only words I could use to describe would be "blown awaaaaaay" (even though due to strict time limits and city ordinances), there was NO ENCORE.
It was sunny on Friday, It was sunny on Sunday... The day that we attended (Saturday) it had intermittent downpours. Before we left, Traci and I made a frantic trip to the store to buy cheap vinyl rain "Ponchos" and caught a cab instead of driving downtown Austin to get lost and late and pay $20 to park and THEN have to walk a good two miles to beautiful Zilker Park where the ACL Fest was held. I am bummed that we missed Steve Earle, but he played right between Shins and Crazy Horse so we decided to just march on down to the far side where NY & CH were due onstage next promptly at 8:00... The rain had stopped, but by that time the entire park was what I could only describe as a 2012 Woodstock muddy mess. Any way, I was disappointed that the gigantic amps and flight cases and mad scientist roadies were not there-- It seemed, in retrospect, I can only describe as egalitarian, because no band was attempting to pull out all bells and whistles to show up the other acts. It was simply about THE MUSIC. "Love And Only Love" was of course the opener, and the instrumental intro was at least as long as the song itself-- at least 20 minutes. The PA sound quality was phenomenal. We were on stage left about 100 feet from the stage and it sounded like dead center stereo. "Walk Like A Giant" was great but relatively brief (14 minutes?) and "Ramada Inn" was utterly heart-ripping. The passion and intensity from ALL of the band members was indescribably palpable. We could hear every distinctive note, chord and cymbal crash with total clarity-- No muddy mix. Very few in the audience seemed to be smoking cigarettes, but huge clouds of ganja smoke permeated the air. The Porta-Potties were horrific... Why can't people at least TRY to be considerate humans? Any way... "Cinnamon Girl" was the usual three-minute classic catchy Crazy Horse hit single, but the outro was three times as long as the song proper. NY walked from side to side of the stage and everyone was going absolutely APE-SHIT. Many of the "hits" such as "Into The Black", a song that I have heard at least a thousand times, had different tweaks to the arrangements, and the ending for that one was about ten minutes long with everyone but Ralphie on their knees in a tight huddle simply abusing their instruments... I am astonished that I did not see any broken strings. I was sad and mad that there was no "... Hurricane" for an encore, but I can understand that it was not up to NY & CH whether or not they could continue to play for another 15 or 20 minutes. If they had done, I think I may have creamed in my corduroys.
PEACE & LOVE
-- Eric
First off, I'm so late with this comment probably no one will read it. I live in Austin and have until now managed to avoid ACL fest and all it's obnoxious drunk assholes that come to puke on my city. That being said Neil especially with Crazy Horse is the only thing that could have gotten me there.
I've seen Neil 13 times now and while I know that's peanuts compared to most of you, for a Central Texas boy who mostly has to wait for Neil to orbit nearby I don't think it's bad, and it definitely is enough to know what Neil is about in a live show. I would rate this as the best one I've ever seen, surpassing the '91 Weld show in San Antonio and the second '84 Austin Opera House show.
Contrary to what I've read about this set. The crowd was not mostly "older" though I'm 51 and there were some close in age around me, I think the majority were early thirties and younger, at least down closer to the stage. I wonder if these "reporters" actually even attended show.
Neil & the Horse started out with a blistering version of "Love and Only Love", followed by a passionate version of "Powderfinger". I really liked "Born In Ontario", it kinda reminded me of "Everybody Knows..."and "Walk Like A Giant" is an F...ing MONSTER. Incredible ending. The 30 something next to me at his virginal Neil show said afterward that it was his favorite part and that he never new a song could end like that. I agreed with the favorite part, but I did know. The acoustic interlude was perfectly timed and executed with the lights going down with the band leaving and coming back up with an acoustic guitar strapped on Neil. I could hear more than a few singing along to Needle. "Twisted Road" was real nice too.
The second half began with "Ramada Inn" which was very poignantly done. Of course "Cinnamon Girl" rocked with Neil grinning ear to ear while jamming with Translation girl. "F...in' Up" & "Psychedelic Pill" rocked. But, the highlight of the evening was "Down By The River
". This was a very laid back, funky version, with a lot of lighter, interesting licks from Neil. A very tastefully done rendering of the song, also the only time on this tour so far that it has been played. A fantastic moment. Most commenters watching the stream had Neil going to his knees during DBTR, but I have it during the ending of "Hey Hey, My My". A burning, distortion filled version, that just nailed the night to the wall.
Just an unbelievable show. Passion, honesty, grit, guts, tension, joy, love & feedback, feedback, FEEDBACK!! Neil & the Horse really showed the younger guys how to do it. One of the most genuine performers on stage today.
Frankly, I've heard a few negative comments in the days since. "Too jammy", "self indulgent", "yeah I understand the 'Giant Walk' but come on...." But I have no time for it. Certainly, those people are entitled to their opinions, but I think either they are either wrong or maybe just don't understand what they were witnessing. Neil was out there wringing every ounce of emotion, feeling, inspiration & perspiration out of the night that he possibly could and it was just an absolute joy to watch.
Thanks, Thrasher for everything you do, and if any of you actually read this, thanks for bearing with the long windedness.
Rob W.

Sorry to double dip, but judging by Neil and the bands energy and apparent fitness they could maybe tour again if they don't wait too long. Certainly I can see Neil touring without the Horse for a while, although the Ace bandage was worrying (I noticed it early during LAOL). However, it might be time to start traveling to shows instead of waiting around for Texas visits.
Thanks again,
Rob W.
