There's a reason it's called the Freedom Speech tour: CSNY has their views and if you don't care for them then don't attend.
I really hope to join a show i Europe,... Keep on telling the truth...
Cheers
Asger, Denmark
PS. i found this Christian republican website, and i hope you´ll check this out..What they write about Neil Young and other freedom of speech lovers is outragious..

They're definitely pushing a few of the right buttons - just look at this crazed fundie rant about Living With War:
http://www.shelleytherepublican.com/2006/08/21/neil-young-an-enemy-of-george-bush-an-enemy-of-god.aspx
a wonderful show at the Garden State Arts center w/ a very civilized crowd and great harmony on stage
Show at PNC Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ on Sun. Aug. 20 was great, but missed a lot of great classics because too much time devoted to left-wing politics. I enjoyed the music and ignored the politics. How the hell can they have a reunion tour and not play, "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes"?!!!!
Another comment: I don't agree with their politics, but since they announced beforehand that they would be speaking out, I'm okay with it. Had they not announced it ahead of time, I would have been angry, especially since they didn't play many old songs.
Saw the concert @PNC Arts'Center in NJ last night(8/20). First time for a 59 year old. I didn't know what to expect but they sang very well together and their song list and respective talents were very impressive. However, Neil Young's contribution from his most recent CD wasn't well received judging from some boos from the sold-out crowd. He had three in a row during the first set. He sounded whiney. The people near me (lawn seats) got restless midway into the second song. Some were shouting for him to shut off the protest B.S. I have to say that IMHO he does not know what he's talking about. He lives in another world. Some kind of fantasy kingdom conjured up in his own uneducated mind. He knows nothing about past history. If he did, he would know that past Democratic presidents such as FDR were much worse regarding citizen's right to privacy issues. He happens to be famous and has a very fortunate forum in which to air his views. I certainly support his right to say anything but he's a political moron. It's always so easy to be against something but I wonder what his idea of how to deal with Islamofacism is? Hey Neil, get real!.....from an ex-veteran.
Had to say thanks to the 59 year old veterans coments. I appreciate your view, thank you for your service and could not agree more! I too agree that everyone has the right to freedom of speech. But, do people not understand that without war we would not have that freedom. Is it not our job, with the most powerful military in the world to help those who are not free. Should we continue to let men, women and CHILDREN, be tortured, raped and murdered? Or do they not matter?
My husband, sister and I are such loyal and respectful fans of CSN&Y ALL OF THEM! We paid alot of money tonight to see them at Jones Beach Theater, NY. We have seen them at least four times before. They have always taken our breaths away! Tonight, was a different story. We were three of THOUSANDS that walked out of the concert during Neil Youngs song of Impeachment of PRESIDENT Bush. The show even supplied the words for a "Sing-A-Long". ALL OF US LEFT OUR SEATS SIMULTANEOUSLY! There was no, "PIPER" leading the way. We were all trying to beat the traffic of all those who left early! We didn't pay alot of money to hear ANGER and Sarcasm. I didn't know that I had to do research about a group that I love, and have seen many times in concert, in order to make a decision to sell my tickets or not. I paid to be entertained with familiar songs. (Half of the show was negative, unfamiliar and depressing) The musicianship, of course, was superb at times and bland at other times. However, the cheers after these pieces probably weren't even heard at the vendors stations! It was quiet and depressing. After any familiar piece, the crowd went nuts! The name of the tour should be changed to "Freedom From Entertainment Tour" CSN&Y were very lucky that the folks they insulted had class, (they left quietly with dignity...no 'boos' or negative chants). Had it been otherwise, they would have heard all the ranting and raving in the parking lot by my family and others. I don't agree with all OUR PRESIDENT is doing. Yet, I would never let our opposition know that there is such hatred at home. I'm sure that if one of these men's children were convicted of a crime, they wouldn't write a song about it and call out the bloodhounds....NO!...They would support their "FAMILY"...enough said by me...except I want my $140 back! Maybe, I can express my rights by starting a class action lawsuit against the Promotor who sold us these wasteful tickets!!
Saw CSNY last nite on Long Island. Still sound great! But...how can you relate Vietnam to terrorists that hide in the shadows, indiscriminately kill women and children, bribe suicide bombers, behead innocents and on and on and on? Neil - time to cut your hair, the little you have left, and grow up. Your naivety is scary and disturbing due to your celebrity.
My friend and I were also at Jones Beach and thought it was great! for the previous anonymous review. Get a Grip! you should have known if you are such a fan. YOu didn't have to attend.Freedom of Speech Get it!!!Geez.
God Bless those boys for expressing themselves.
I am "Looking Forward" to the show in Hershey PA this Friday. Remember "when Clinton lied nobody died." When Bush lies nothing happens except 2500 plus dead Americans and thousands other wounded. Why would we impeach a president about lieing about a consensual sex act and not one who lied about the reasons for sending our country into a war? I have no sympathy for the consumptionist suburbanites that are addicted to fluff and are pissed about not getting what they think is their money's worth. They ae bloated losers and not unlike the "squares" of the 60's. CSN&Y are the Sages of the Woodstock Nation! (a little bit flakey but no hesitation)and they are a dying breed. Enjoy them and their message for it is a good one. This tour is getting rave reviews from the music critics for being a reunion band with a purpose and that is really cool man!! I hope Stills voice does'nt start to creek too much, lol. Make Love, not War!! Rock on CSN&Y! This will be my 8th show. -Malifard
Honey, so sad, so sad. You are NOT a fan, probably just heard the radio hits over the years. The band has a LONG HISTORY of political activism and political songs, if you were a fan, you would know that. You would also intuitively know their position on current policies, without having to even hear any of the songs Mr. Young has written about them. But to me, the saddest thing is some people's perception of democracy and freedom of speech. How any halfway intelligent person cannot see how ironic it is that Mr. Bush uses the principles of this country to create.... the farthest thing from a democracy, is beyond me. And for a moment, let's forget politics, and just think decency. No matter where I stood before last August, after Katrina, it was a done deal. Mr. Bush is the president - THE BUCK STOPS THERE. No need to rehash the details, he should have done more - PERIOD. If I were him, I would hang my head in shame and be in church daily asking for God's forgiveness.
My wife and I attended one of the greatest concerts of our life at Saratoga. I am amazed that there are morons out among us that don't comprehend the meaning of Freedom of Speech Tour. I had become ashamed of my generation which lived through the Vietnam era for swallowing the Bush propaganda. There can be no one in this country that can say that we are better off today after six years of this administration. What I can say is THANK YOU to Neil, David, Steven, and Graham for giving us a voice again. Mike D
Hey, I just came from that concert as well. I have to say the first set was a bit funky. I am a huge fan of Neils, but had actually not heard this latest album. Like you I found a lot of the political statement not what I had signed up for. Although a couple of them were actually quite edgy, but it was obvious that they were working up to something.
They did make the crowd happy in the second set, but broke up the momentum with the Impeach the President bit. I watched you all walk out which was a bit unfortunate, since the rest of the show really put the whole war protest theme in a much broader political context.
While at first I had no interest in the political statement, they ended up bringing the whole theme back to their roots with a stunning version of Ohio and rocking in the free world, which for me was worth the price of admission alone.
I was suprised by the amount and style of the electric music they played, At some points it was actually like going to a metallica concert, I had never seen the Metal Head side of the group before
which was quite unusual.
In summary, while I can certainly understand the offense at some of the polical bent of the concert ( it was obviously intended to offend) It showed a very different side of this classic rock band which hasn't been seen in a long long time.
To their credit, CSNY have stayed true to their beliefs and the concert at Jones Beach tonight reflected those beliefs. While I found the first half of the concert uneven, the second half was excellent. What was truly disturbing, however, was that the 'political' songs are as relevant today as they were in the 60's and 70's - we are involved in a senseless war, fought by the children of the poor and working classes; the government, unresponsive to the needs of most Americans, is regularly violating our consitutional rights in the name of 'security'. I was happy to see CSNY speak out in protest, I agree with them completely...and except for the usual early departures to 'beat the traffic', there was a full house when I left at the end of the concert. I am energized by the experience, and I will work even harder for political reform. Regime change begins at home. I almost forgot, 'we can change the world'. Thank you, CSNY, for reminding me.
i was at the 8/22/06 freedom of speech concert, which, from the title of the tour, says it all..that's what america is all about...we were very happy to see david crosby after all been through; his beautiful voice still intact...
neil young was in great form as was stephen stills and graham nash...the show couldn't have been better..we were so impressed that my husband went out and bought neil young's new album living with war...
it was the best concert i've seen in years and as someone stated above me csny has their views and if you don't care for them, don't attend..
It was an ill-considered war against a country in the Middle East that was of no immediate threat to any but its own citizens. We should certainly offer aid and assistance to those people held in oppressive regimes – there are several out there. But is a military campaign, which will involve the unavoidable suffering of the country’s innocents, the right way to do it? Maybe Neil Young did over step the mark when he calls for the impeachment of the U.S. President but the guy wears his heart on his sleeve and someone needs to give voice to the madness out there. Neil Young is brave enough to do so and should be applauded for that – whether you agree with his opinions or not. His is only one voice of thousands that deserve to be heard. Supporting your President and country is fine but only if you are totally convinced by your government’s policies and actions and not by way of blind patriotism.
The majority of us living on this planet would wish to see a world free of oppression and want. There is enough food in the world to feed everyone and it is totally unacceptable that so many millions of people have inadequate food or shelter. The fact is too many people have far more than they need and too many have far less than they need. I am a supporter of Capitalism – the free-market economy makes the world go round. Communism to me is unsuccessful – the Soviets tried it and ditched it. I’m not against a bit of worldwide Socialism if it means that more people will get the chance to live a reasonable life without resorting to searching for scraps of food on rubbish tips to try to stay alive.
'We look forward to a world founded upon four essential human freedoms. The first is freedom of speech and expression--everywhere in the world. The second is freedom of every person to worship God in his own way--everywhere in the world. The third is freedom from want...everywhere in the world. The fourth is freedom from fear...anywhere in the world.'
President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Message to Congress, January 6, 1941
I have a sick sense of satisfaction to all of those who walked out of the CSNY show after forking over $200. Too bad for YOU!!!!! I had the time of my life It's a shame that ticket prices were so high because I think this isolated the people who would have enjoyed the show the most. Neil Young is as relevant today as he was back in "the day". I had a chance to talk with a Vietnam Vet during the intermission and the only difference between this generations political involvement and theirs is the draft, which is coming. So all of those who think Neil is a leftist pinko, wait until you or your children are called. Rock on Neil!!!!!!
The freedom of speech tour sucked - I wanted to hear their music not their complaining
Two months ago, I purchased tickets to see Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young at the PNC Arts Center in Holmdel. I was waiting for the four of them to tour again, as I have always been a big Neil Young fan and he has always been the holdout.
I had never seen them so I was expecting to have a wonderful time. I couldn't have been more disappointed. It was horrible.
They started off the night with a few old songs and then the stage was handed over to Young's new anti-war album. I wasn't aware that he had put one out. I am now. There was a ragged peace sign in the back, a CNN-type screen on the monitors and so much political stuff to deal with I wanted to leave.
I waited until the second set. I said to my friend that maybe this set will be devoted to the old stuff. They started off with "Immigration Man," which was really good and got my hopes up when they went into "Guinnevere" and "Our House."
I was really happy until they started singing "Find the Cost of Freedom" while tallying the bodies on the CNN screen behind them. It was very touching and made you think, but it isn't what I was there for.
Here is the problem: I did not come to an anti-war rally. I did not pay for an anti-war rally and I did not expect to be sitting at an anti-war rally. I have been robbed of my $350. Where is that money going? Is it going to the poor families of the dead soldiers? No, it's going to fill the pockets of the bloated artists who shove their political views down my throat.
If they had balanced it out and put the Twin Towers of 9/11 on their fake CNN screen to show why we are where we are, I might have been able to tolerate it. But I doubt it. We walked out as the next song was beginning, which started with "Impeach the president." The words to the song were on the monitors. All we needed was the bouncing ball.
I don't always agree with our president and I am very tired of this war. I don't want my children to go there. I don't want to see one more person die because of it. I also don't want to be told how to think by four aging hippies.
Shame on the group for taking up this "cause" for their own gain and covering it up by calling it a "concert."
J.A. Gurney
I recently attended the show at Saratoga Springs , NY, with a packed crowd in the rain. I didn't notice many people leaving or objecting to the political flavor of this show. It was a great show and everyone seemed to love it. Let's face it, we're in another unpopular war and this band is speaking out against it just like they spoke out against the other one (and other political and corporate injustices). I commend them for speaking out and hope they keep doing it.
saw them here in winnipeg a little while ago for the 4th time. best show ive seen done by them yet. and i hope i can make it to many more! keep it up boys!
Saw the Columbus, Ohio performance last night. TOTALLY BLEW ME AWAY.
If you've seen Neil on late night TV recently, he looked.... well.... like a fat old man! Sorry, Neil. This is NOT that Neil! He was as energetic and vibrant and impressive on stage as ever. THEY ALL WERE. They proved once again, how great musicians they are. You just won't believe the guitar work. This live performance is as powerful as anything they have done.
PLAYLIST: Does anyone know where there is one on the Internet? I started to keep one but lost track as I got engrossed in the show.

Columbus Concert. Good music!
CSNY political commentary has not changed but most of the baby boomers have changed. We were too far left in the sixties and probably too far right now.
Neil if you didn't want to go to war you should be impeaching your congressman or senator not the president. You have more control over your representation.
Just saw the show in Columbus,Ohio and LOVED it.
Now I see why the show has not been well advertised. We just happened to find out about it in Northeren Ky. The right wing media in this area doesn't want us to know too much about the dissenting voices. But come on people you have to have a clue about CSNY political leanings and Neil Young's latest isn't going to get much airplay with the Rupert Murdocks of the airways playing what is politically correct. I thought the concert was well received for the most part and thought they sounded great! There was no disrespect to the troops and I was a little taken aback with the "impeach Bush" sing-a-long, I totally agree that we've been duped into a war that is nothing but a death trap for our servicemen and women
The PNC Freedom of Speech tour
was the most satisfying event I
have seen in years.
Bravo! Crosby Stills Nash and Young were magnificent. Their harmony is and always was honest
loving and refreshing.
During these very confused and troubled times, I was delighted to
see, CSN&Y, old rockers from MY
Generation, proud to express their
opinion, and that which I am in
agreement.
For those of you in attendance
who did not agree with CSNY politics, what were you expecting,
a BUSH LOVEFEST??? I think not.
Many thanks to CSN & Y and their effort to creat awareness as they did during the Viet Nam Era.
Having seen CSNY in various formations over the years has been wonderful. The Freedom of Speech tour was yet another fantastic experience.
This particular incarnation of the band is aimed at opening up the hearts and minds of Americans to the horrendous price we are paying in Iraq... What actually are we dying for??? The huge loss of life cannot be ignored. Neil and pals are very respectful of those who have been killed as well as their families...It is Bush who is slammed and exposed in the lyrics of Neils songs...as well he should be. The lies of the administration need to be discussed in the public forum!!!!! CSNY have the guts to do it and I say GO FOR IT!!!
If people go to the concerts and leave-- I feel they have not been able to see the TRUTH that CSNY is exposing. Good riddence to them!!!!
I sang along with every song and was SO PROUD to sing Let's Impeach the President with CSNY.
The military don’t have a say on whether they should go to war or not. They follow orders given to them by the Government. Some military personnel might be against the war in principle and some might be aware that a lot of people are against the war. They still must do the job that they are expected to do. A high ranking US military man came on my tv the other day and called the situation in Iraq an ‘interesting experiment’! I assume he means the attempt to democratise Iraq and bring stability to this country, which would hopefully have a positive impact on the whole of the Middle East. Whether the intentions are noble or not, it doesn’t obscure the fact that the US had no real reason to invade Iraq, causing the demise of thousands, and may even have falsified information to justify their actions.

I've been going to CSN&Y concerts for over 30 years but had I known their political adgenda was going to be shoved down my throat I would have kept that $250 in my pocket. A slide show with a Peace sign? Helmet? Oh brother. I know many Americansoldiers who believe in the U.S. occupation of Iraq and some who have returned for another tour of duty who make no where near what this band made the night of the Chicago performance. Since they were so concerned about our troops did the band donate any of their earnings to the families of our soldiers in Iraq??? I highly doubt it. As for the concert, the band sounded great while playing the songs I grew up with. The anti-war songs were boring and monotonous. The only thing that held my interest from the 15 row was the cool and collected Bass player from Chicago. Ciao!
That was the best concert I've been to in my life!!! Political views aside, it was wonderful. The concert-goers in Milwaukee were warned in advance by the local newspaper that Republicans may not like the subject matter. I did not mind seeing them leave (not that many did leave). If they can't understand "Freedom of Speech" so be it.
To the person who said that CSNY should have had a picture of the twin towers.......Ossama bin Laden has NO connection to Saddam Hussein!!! Keep swallowing the lies that your president spouts!!!
Chilli - we need you! Get tough & sign up! Reserves, active force - don't just sit at home pissing & moaning at liberals - join the fight! The President didn't send enough troops. It's 4th down! We need you! Forget this blogger stuff - sign up - if you are the REAL AMERICAN & patriot you say you are.

On my way to the CSNY concert in St. Louis I guess I turned left, way left, when I should’ve turned right, and found myself at a political pecking party in G-Dubya’s honor.
It’s no exaggeration to say that more than half the show was reserved for Bush-bashing. Four or five songs in, the quartet started a string of six bland and obscure songs that were evidently written for the express purpose of letting us dumb, common folk know that George Bush is the anti-Christ, his head spins, he spits pea soup, yada, yada, yada.
Not a single bad thing to say about the terrorists who want all of their heads – and those of every other American – on a spike in town square, but they’ll devote half of a two-and-a-half-hour show to cheap shots at their president (Nash is English and Young is Canadian, so really, guys, just stop it)! I go to concerts to escape that crap; instead, the whole steamin’ pile was shoveled in front of me, shoulder-high.
At one point, Neil Young sang a mediocre song that pretty much echoed the other bazillion mediocre songs they had already devoted to their liberal political agenda. Only this one was even more blustery. The oh-so-clever lyrics accused the president of lying about WMDs, lying to go to war, lying to kill as many Hurricane Katrina victims as possible, lying about the color of the sky, Ronald McDonald’s ethnic heritage, you name it. Then, just so the audience wouldn’t miss one single seething word, they put the lyrics up on the monitors so that those of us hillbillies who could read could take it all in.
This was apparently too much for some in the audience – including me – because people started booing. Booing! Booing Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young! That should tell them something.
These guys are paid big bucks to entertain, and they seem to have forgotten that. Their colossal talent was dampened by a blind, egocentric desire to drive home a point … over and over and over and over again. As the saying goes, opinions are like a**holes – everybody has one. Let me just follow thread and add that they sometimes stink, no one wants to hear them, and no one wants one shoved in their face.
We get it, guys, you hate the president. Now shut the hell up and play!
I am unbelievably upset by the reviews of this concert. My father and I bought these tickets for the show in pittsburgh, not knowing it was going to be a political rally and now we can't even return them or get our money back! They need to give a little warning about what the tour is really about before selling tickets. We are just going to turn our backs and boo tonight. And to all those people who said only "morons" wouldn't understand the name of the tour...Freedom of Speech can be applied in many different ways.
Sarah, so were you expecting pro-Bush comments, given CSN&Y's track record for denouncing war and deceit? And surely, given the fact that Neil Young JUST released a new album of protest songs, it was predictable that many of these songs would be in the setlist? Finally, for you and the less humane Cold Bowl of Chili, have you any comments on the Senate report? Y'know, the one that just came out to declare that Saddam Hussein had absolutely NO connection to Al Qaeda, and that he had in fact tried to capture Zarqawi? Do you still think Mr Bush's war was justified. Let's see: that's NO weapons of mass destruction and NO connections to Al Qaeda. So in fcat, the two reasons our soldiers are dying in Iraq have BOTH turned out to be false. And Bush, whether he lied, or was just as stupid as he looks and went on poor information, has the deaths of thousands of Americans and Iraqis on his conscience.
let us call every radio station and request "living with war" if for nothing else then to see if "liberal media" applies to more than what the conservative owners of the"liberal media"will, can,do,play across these "free(?)airwaves" I WANT SHOCK AND AWE .I WANT WAR CRIMINALS TO HANG. LETS IMPEACH-SLASH. LET'S HANG WAR CRIMINALS FOR THE CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY AND MY... CONSTITUTION. A SPADE'S A SPADE. A FASCIST DESPOT SHOULD NOT BE FREE TO DEAL TERROR ... I'M NOT SCARED ..THANKS NEIL ..BRING 'EM ON. DON'TNEED NO MORE LIES
It's interesting to see that Thrasher is featuring the video of Neil singing 'Imagine' this week. The Bush administration banned the song in the wake of 9/11. Peace has become taboo and unpatriotic. Where is our country going when a song gets censored?
Whatever your politics, be sure to visit Neil's Living With War site to check out the videos - great live playing - if you're nostalgic for the not-so-political tunes, check out YouTube - just type in "Neil Young" & you'll find many gems....
Freedom Of Speech is so unpopular these days because so many mindless drones who let the government and the media do their thinking for them. Why are people who are for Peace being so villianized in the USA? Stand And Be Counted!!
The concert is called "Freedom of Speech". Neil Young's album is called "Living with War". The song from that album with the most publicity is called "Let's Impeach the President". If you don't get "it" by now, then you don't deserve the $200 seats you left vacant. This concert was, by far, one of the best in my lifetime. Seen in Toronto, July, 2006.
This is a very late post. I attended the CSNY concert at the Mohegan Sun last year sometime. I found this site recently and decided to add my comment.
Well I read all of the comments on this site and have to ask What happened to the song Lets Roll? I am not a super fan of anyone but do enjoy CSNY. Forgive me for not researching the content prior to attending the show but I have a life.
I know CSNY were and are anti-war along with love/peace. I did expect to hear alot of what they sang, but not almost entirely. Yes it was a hate filled show and I am very aware of ALL the issues with the war and the president. I just wish that I could have heard a few of the songs that the crowd was longing for after all we did pay a consderable amount of money to hear an angry group.
Without doubt there are many who loved the show I was not among them.
Shame on those who only see things thru their idols and arent independent thinkers.
peace to all
Ironically, at the time of this tour I worked for a media company that supports and celebrates sunshine laws. My husband and I were sitting with our libel law expert, also a huge fan. Was enjoying the old tunes having a grand time until "invitees" of a automotive subsidiary company became obnoxious and booed so we couldn't hear Southbound Train! Finally I felt forced to exercise my freedom of speech to ask them to shut up or leave. Speaking my mind cost me any future invitations to sit in the suite which I wouldn't have wanted anyway if I weren't in the 99% who can no longer afford tickets. The walls of the sujite dripped in irony in the end. Already feeling like a sellout in my corporate job, I should've known better. Ain't singing for no Pepsi/Coke.... 6 years later more or less layed off (retired), I'm seeking a job consistent with my beliefs in hopes of making a positive contribution to society. There are still great lessons in the old songs if you keep the faith in today's environment.#keeping it real
Found this after searching for this specific tour and what it was about. Neil calling for the censorship of Joe Rogan is quite ironic :)
