Oceanside-Countryside: Another Neil Young Album in The Pipeline

Way back in 2010, we posted on some rather hugely significant Neil Young news concerning Archives Volume #2 and the NYA Special Release Series:

The NYA team, headed by Will Mitchell and Hannah Johnson, is digging through material supplied by numerous sources, including newspapers, writers, fans, bootleg audio collectors and photographers (special thanks to photographer/collector Joel Bernstein). Much work has been done and there is much left to do. Using the template designed by the late Larry Johnson, the whole team is pushing forward.

Special thanks to audio engineers John Nowland, Tim Mulligan and the team at Redwood Digital for the unbelievable amount of work that has been accomplished so far. Volume 2 promises even more content than Volume 1, with many unreleased tracks.

Four unreleased albums from this period are being rebuilt and will be available in the NYA Special Release Series. Chrome Dreams, Homegrown and Oceanside-Countryside are the three unreleased studio albums. Also from this period is the unreleased Odeon-Budokan live recording produced by David Briggs and Tim Mulligan.

These albums initially will be released in vinyl from analog masters as they originally were created for that format. So now is the time to get your new phonograph player. The new players, built with today's technology, are exceptionally good.

So here we are 8 years later and it looks like a Oceanside-Countryside album release may just happen.

Oceanside-Countryside were the solo recordings before Comes A Time, recorded at The Triad studios, Florida. Reprise advised Neil to add more instruments on it. Eventually released songs included were "Lost In Space" and "Pocahontas".

Neil writes on Neil Young's Archives (NYA) Times-Contrarian that Oceanside-Countryside "... was a record that I felt really good about. It was quite a personal record, mostly acoustic songs with no bass or drums."

While no definitive track list is confirmed, Thrasher's Wheat readers have a "99%" hunch.

Odeon Budokan is coming, Alchemy triple vinyl "could be" next year, Homegrown "is in the wings," Toast is complete except for videos, a Ducks release is in production, the 1974 Bottom Line concert is a "borderline recording" that "may be released in some special way but not as a full recording," Boarding House audio/video is being reviewed along with a full Greendale show, with 1995 Dublin footage being prepared for a Hearse Theater screening, and ORS box sets will continue.

In reference to the original Tonight's The Night raps, "Those tapes were on the floor for a while in Zeke's room. We have them, maybe they will come out. Now's the time." In response to a LTE question about Austin City Limits '84: "I was pretty out of it for Austin City Limits, not sure it all is good enough."

whew?! We're the lucky ones.

Well, now we know that Hitchhiker is the first NYAPS-SRS disk. #5 to be exact. Isn't that provocative? Recall all of the speculation of what the NYA-PS disks would be? We can now map out the blueprint of the Archives in NYA-SRS order. I might as well take a first crack at it, here on TW, as it fits with this thread:

CNN: "Neil Young uses politics to confirm marriage to Daryl Hannah"
(Or, "How CNN Uses Neil Young and Daryl Hannah's Marriage As A Political Tool To Bury The REAL Message")

The sound you hear in the distance is the sound of Neil and Daryl's heads exploding over the CNN headline above: "Neil Young uses politics to confirm marriage to Daryl Hannah".

While we can't say for absolute certainty, we do think that Neil Young and Daryl Hannah would take issue with the headline. The wedding "news" actually happened several months ago in August. Hello?!

The real story is the new Official Live Concert Video of Neil Young's "Ohio" which was released earlier this week.



And some mainstream publications can't quite get right basic facts. Neil Diamond?! Hello?!

And it wasn't just CNN running "old" news of Neil Young and Daryl Hannah's marriage above the new concert video and it's messaging around gun control and voting.

Here's NBC claiming Neil Young's marriage confirmation is a "push to get Americans to vote".

And many other Mainstream Media publications are emphasizing the "old wedding news" over the actual current news on Neil Young's Archives (NYA) website Times-Contrarian , supporting “common sense gun control laws.”

Talk about "burying the lede".

We do have many fond memories of the 2 night run of Solo @ The Tower -- particularly October 1, 2018, Night #2 with the stunning performance of "Thrasher".

Over the course of 2 nights in Upper Darby, we heard 34 different songs, 12 songs on the second night he didn’t perform on 1st. A few highlights:

• The Loner: 1st acoustic since 1970
• The Trip To Tulsa: last played in 1999
• See The Sky About To Rain: last played in 1999
• Expecting To Fly: last played in 2003
• Lotta Love: 1st solo since 2003
• Four Strong Winds: 1st since 2014
• Children Of Destiny: 1st solo electric
• Eternity: 1st solo acoustic

NEW Neil Young Official Live Video: "Ohio", 2018

Neil Young and his wife Daryl Hannah have created a new video for the CSN&Y song “Ohio”.

The video uses concert footage from the recent solo tour and seeks to help bring about “common sense gun control laws.”

On his website Neil Young archives (NYA) Times-Contrarian , Neil writes:

“With no real laws protecting us from guns, and with politicians supporting the NRA because the NRA supports them, we are not well represented,” Young wrote on his official website. “Today’s students are brave, demanding change in violent times. We stand with them. They are us. We are them. This has been going on for too long. My wife Daryl and I put this video together for you to reflect on. Support the students. Support our children. They want protection. No more guns.”

A new release on Hearse Theater | Neil Young Archives featuring "Grey Riders" from The International Harvesters album A Treasure.

"Grey Riders" is a real gem and "It stands alone on the hill", as Neil notes on his Song of the Day.

A couple of significant points. Note the pre-roll announcement* of a Solo Pre-Sale coming soon, followed by something familiar to the readers of the TW blog. ;) *check comment below for our hunch.

Like Neil has explained, if he doesn't post a Song of the Day early enough, the system will automatically move to the next song on the album the previous song came from (hence the White Line/Fuckin' Up/Over and Over sequence from Ragged Glory earlier in the week). That's also why you might see one song in the morning and another in the afternoon, after he catches up.
