Beyond 'Hitchhiker': 15 Archival Neil Young Albums We'd Like to Hear | Rolling Stone
Earlier this week, we posted a Comment of the Moment: Stills-Young Band's 1976 Tour Opener that included memories from the short-lived 1976 tour.
Now along comes Beyond 'Hitchhiker': 15 Archival Neil Young Albums We'd Like to Hear | Rolling Stone by Andy Greene. Among the "dream Archival releases" is "Live With the Stills-Young Band (1976)" which suggests the above track -- "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes", from the Springfield, MA. concert on 6/27/76.
The Stills-Young Band lasted a mere 19 shows in the summer of 1976 before Young decided to turn the bus around and head home – never mind the fact the tour wasn't even close to done. "Dear Stephen," he wrote to Stills in an infamous telegram, "funny how some things that start spontaneously end that way. Eat a peach. Neil." Luckily, a good many shows had been captured on tape before Neil bailed. They feature Buffalo Springfield oldies like "For What It's Worth" mixed in with Young solo cuts and CSNY tunes. The guitar battles between Stills and Young are amazing, and finally hearing Young sing on "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" during the final encore is the cherry on top.Here are Beyond 'Hitchhiker': 15 Archival Neil Young Albums We'd Like to Hear by Andy Greene.

i'd like to hear a good audio of the bridge-school buffalo springfield Saturday show 2010 --- I was there --- make an album out of it --- but add all the stuff the original songs had --- horns , strings , a good voice from Stephen stills , hair dye for Richie furay , attitude adjustment for neil , and last but not least --- TONS OF VIBRATO ON THE GUITAR PARTS !!! --- LISTEN TO THE ORIGINAL ALBUMS SONGS ??? --- TONS OF FENDER CHAMP AMP --- VIBRATO !!! --- GOTTA HAVE IT !!!
Definitely more interested in archival studio material -- even demos like the Hitchhiker set.
My first Neil Young concert was seeing the Stills-Young Band at the Capital Centre in Landover MD on 7/9/1976. I was 21 years old and in the US air force and stationed at Ft. Meade for my last year in the AF after being stationed at an air base in Greece for 18 months. I missed going to rock concerts when I was stationed overseas so I went to a bunch of them that year - Cat Stevens, Dan Fogelberg, America, John Denver, Joni Mitchell - but seeing Neil and Stephen live was the ultimate for me since I was already a huge Neil fan. The tour ended on 7/20 with Neil leaving his "eat a peach" note on Stephen's dressing room mirror, then Neil went home to Malibu and recorded Hitchhiker on 8/11! Forty-one years later, Hitchhiker officially comes out today! Listening to it on NPR, I felt transported back to my 21-year old self! I should be getting the CD in the mail today - Thank you Neil for taking me back there once again, to the land of youthful dreams and magical music - what a long strange trip it's been! - Shakeydave : )
@ KONWAKITON - good suggestion on Bridge School release. But it's our understanding that these benefit concert lineup contracts have certain restrictions about releases.
You know, competing music labels and all of that. pity.

@ Art - no disagreemnt there. While its always nice to have another live soundboard of LAH, DBTR, CTK or whatever, the unreleased songs hold the most intrigue.
@ Shakeydave - So many great memories of the now demolished Capital Centre. We have many memories there as well -- both in the venue and the parking lot (before/after).
We saw Bruce there quite a few times in 80's & 90s.
We're sure you recall the CSNY box set video from the Capital Centre 74 concerts? Interestingly, it was the only venue at the time which recorded everything since it was the 1st arena with JumboTron screens filming the proceedings whether sports, concerts, etc.
Pretty cool on Hitchhiker transporting you back in time.
We've had a few time travel discussions on Hitchhiker on other threads. Yes, back to the land of youthful dreams and magical music on that long, strange journey through the past, present & future.

my first neil young sighting --- December 6 , 1969 , Altamont speedway --- there was neil onstage with --- crosby stills and nash --- and a truckload of Oakland chapter Hells Angels ( and 1 naked sumo-wrestler on the LSD )
Well, Now we know that Hitchhiker is the first NYAPS-SRS disk. #5 to be exact. Isn't that provocative? Recall all of the speculation of what the NYA-PS disks would be? We can now map out the blueprint of the Archives in NYA-SRS order. I might as well take a first crack at it, here on TW, as it fits with this thread:

Did the "visitor" help out with the release date, I wonder, of "Hitchhiker"? On release date "eve" we got hit with a 9.3 Kp X-Flare which I think is #15 in strength since 1976. Understand even North Carolina got to see the aurora just before dawn of release day which is super unusual. Then you have, "Pocahontas," the lead track on "Hitchhiker" talking about the aurora in the first line. Got mine in the mail just after noon and am very happy with the purchase. "Adapt 2030" had a good wrap-up of what happened Thursday night.

Am glad that "Comes A Time" got rejected as a solo vocal/guitar LP. The remastered version with Ben, Tim D, Rufus, J.J. Cale and Spooner I think is amazing with the great string arrangements that remind me of past life regression. So much fun hearing the "time travel" songs on "Comes A Time." Ordered "Super Delux" hoping there is something on Dean Stockwell who is always mentioned as an aside on Neil's trip but I think is a key figure.
