so do we adam - ever thought about all the neil lovers scattered across the globe that will never get the opportunity to see neil solo like what he's doing at present? he may do some such shows whilst touring outside nth america/canada but they won't be extensive so stop complaining and do us all a favour and dig a hole for yourself! Any of these shows and whatever he choses to perform are worth the $$. looking forward to the hearse theatre event.

Neil Young solo - haven't seen that in Europe for quite a while. Thank you Neil for streaming one of the shows in the next few days - hope it happens.

and looking Forward some more, Nils Lofgren posted this on F*c*b**k yesterday:
"This is a loose breakdown of my year. I’m headed to North Dakota to play with Crazy Horse. Onto Winnipeg to join up with Neil. Getting ready to release my new album in Aprilish. Hitting the road with a kick ass band in America. Would love to get to Europe. Everything is possible"

So looks like Canada gets the new old-look CH next week.

Crowd behaved for a while.
Some guy with a very projecting voice REALLY wanted to be acknowledged by NY. Look at me, look at me! Like a damn four year old.
So he kept yelling things, nothing bad, just annoying. I feel sorry for folks that want to be noticed by celebrities. As if that does anything to enhance their lives. I imagine life just be an absolute paradise because you acted like a dork to get a guy with millions of dollars to respond to a millisecond to you acting the fool.

Another show spoiler was Whistler's Brother, or Whistler himself. Some cat kept whistling REALLY loud and shrill, even during songs. TO the point where NY said he liked his whistling "IN BETWEEN THE SONGS THOUGH"

ha ha admonished by your hero. What a life!

Neil sounded so good last night. He was loose and comfortable and soulful.

Opening with Ambulance Blues was a huge highlight for me. It was my 4th Neil show and the man next to me's 30th--and we both were blown away.

Neil had lots of great things to say about the Pantages throughout the night.

Wonderful show! Neil seemed happy and was smiling alot. Made some jokes. At one point he put his harmonica in upside down and said something to the effect, "Well I f**cked that up, maybe put it in not upside down". At another point he grabbed the wrong pick and said, "I got to much sh*t out here." Real classic Neil dry witt. The songs were performed beautifully. I thought his performance of Rockin' was real special. Broken Arrow was a great suprise! As for the two new ones, I thought Green is Blue was pretty good if a little ruff yet. Was not a big fan of the other one...had potential but a little underwhelming as of yet imho. The crowd pretty well behaved I thought. A few yellers and whistlers but there are always going to be a few. Most annoying to me was a couple loud singers on HoG and Old Man. Paid money to hear Neil sing not some drunk a few isles back. But on the whole I think minneapolis did pretty well, I've been to see him when the crowd has been much worse. Mr. Young put on a great show and I'm eternally thankful for being able to see such a master of the art. Hope he comes back soon!

Oh, a big surprise for me was Tumbleweed! Honestly it has not been one of my favorite later day songs. I thought it was a little corny. But Neil has really perfected it and I was beautiful when he played it on his ukulele. He seemed real happy as if it were a real personal moment. One where you kind of forgot that you were watching a legendary music figure on stage and it seemed almost like he could have been in your living room playing to his dinner hosts as a thank you. I have a new respect for the song. Great way to close out the show.

Apparently Neil Young is re-visiting Greendale every once in a while. After Peace Trail's John Oaks, brother to Ciela Oaks who was married to Grandpa and also to his sea-faring brother, now there is a song that tells us, that an unspecified Green is Blue. Given her involvement in the Alaska protests 16 years ago, Green might be sweet little Sun Green, all grown up now and pretty melancholic. Of course every song stands by itself, but then it's all one song.

At 1/27/2019 06:50:00 PM, Blogger Babbo B. said...

Well, technically the previous AB was for that billionaire clown Carmignac three years ago. But yeah, played 53 times in 2007-08 (plus Bridge in 2006).

@Dionys: A bit of background on the actual irrigation pioneer John Oakes, who presumably served as inspiration for that song (at least in part):

You can't have positive without negative .Ups and downs .peaks and troughs. Good and bad .

Anyway, it makes me laugh .

At 1/28/2019 01:00:00 PM, Blogger Dionys said...

@Babbo The Green family pretty much is based on the West Coast. John Oaks, however hails from North Carolina, according to your source. But of course all these people must have come from somewhere. Have been watching Devil's Sidewalk over on NYA. The comment from the helmsman comes to mind: "That's an honest tale, about a woman delicious..." Is he alluding to the strange second marriage of Ciela Oaks? These patchwork families and their uncertain relationships bother me...
