Touring with the Horse in 76, after arriving in Oslo Norway from Japan, we crossed Europe and played a great rock and roll hall in Rotterdam. Then we went on and toured the the US. An album was made and a film was created to memorialize that world tour. Perhaps the Horse was at the first peak of its powers. It was a great tour. Coming soon in NYA Volume 3, the film and the record.

Comment of the Moment: NEW TIMELINE CONCERT: Neil Young + POTR - "EPIC NIGHT IN AMSTERDAM!" | NYA

The proof is now in for all to hear: it was -- without a shred of doubt -- an "epic night in Amsterdam", as we described back in 2016 as reports rolled in here in real time at TW.

From post NEW TIMELINE CONCERT: Neil Young + POTR - "EPIC NIGHT IN AMSTERDAM!" | NYA, the Comment of the Moment is by Minke:

Amazing show.

Many surprise songs. So many highlights. Razor Love is beautiful. Winterlong fits them like a glove, as do Alabama, Western Hero and a scourging Revolution Blues.

The band was in an elated mood that night. Dutch herbs perhaps.

From note one of Out on the Weekend you hear the glee (this song doesn’t get the best performance though). The concert shows why Neil Young liked to play with these guys. The songs sound fresh and light. Don’t go there searching for the Crazy Horse stomp.

What surprised me most was the sparkling funkiness of their playing. Especially Love to Burn (at 1:12:15) and Love and Only Love (at 2:42:50) get such funky treatments; although 18 and 20+ minutes long it felt like they could go on forever. Pure bliss and with Revolution Blues the absolute pinnacles of the concert.

Moments where Lukas and Micah Nelson’s playing really added a new flavour to the songs and turned them into something completely different from the original Crazy Horse setup. The band continued to bestow song after song on the audience.

Check out the great videos of the concert made by Rialto1961 on YT. Watch Micah Nelson. What was he doing there noodling all the time? But it worked. As do the bongos.

it would seem that the night had magic in the air.  It was a Saturday night. If you look at  Sugar Mountain's Chronological Grid (Thanks Tom on SM!), you can see the band had the night off before (traveling from Norway on July 7) and had the next 2 days off before going onto Montreux, Switzerland on July 12.  So they had love to burn in more ways than one.

At some 205 mins and 26 songs the longest Neil show ever (2 CSNY shows were longer).

NOW ON NYA TIMELINE

Epic night in Amsterdam. 26 songs, three and a half hours, the longest concert of the current tour and the longest Neil Young concert in his more than fifty year career. "Don't Be Denied" and "Change Your Mind" first time on the European Tour. The total number of different songs of the Tour now up to 57, [sic - see above/below] Also, two song encore: "Like An Inca" & "Here We Are In The Years”.

Pretty cool that NYA is using TW as a resource.  Thanks NYA crew!  But sorry the Sugar Mountain link got clipped, right there at the hanging comma. :(

The latest Neil Young Archives TIMELINE CONCERT OF THE WEEK | NYA is from the Solo Trans Tour at Memorial Auditorium in Buffalo, New York on Feb 17, 1983.

The first Solo/Trans show to sellout (according to Neil on stage).

Also the first show at Buffalo's Memorial auditorium that I attended that sold beer! This might have added to the amazing crowd enthusiasm that night to an acoustic show! Neil was blown away by the crowd & thank the crowd many times throughout the show & said he'd never miss playing Buffalo on any upcoming tours. I think he has held to that promise. This was a very special night for everyone there, including Neil. A nice recording to replace the audience recording most fans have would be nice to hear (If possible). [ed note: it was possible!]

WOW! Thanks fer the burn down memory lane......

My first Neil show. Feb 23, 1983 Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

I can NO longer say I remember it like yesterday, but still, there are memories....

"Scalping" (for $30 ea) a pair of $8 EIGHTH ROW Floor seats, moments before the show was to go on. Don't even know if he had an opener? It was SOOO cold outside, we didn't haggle. went there w/o tickets, weren't planning on spending that much (No $ left fer merch.)

I had the Trans album, Decade album & a copy of "Hawks & Doves" in the cassette deck, along for the ride. Turns out that's all I needed. Very eclectic performer. moved seamlessly from instrument to instrument, singing thru his harmonica rig. until he wasn't. The rig was swapped for what I've come to know as a "Vocoder". On came the New wave Black shades & out came Ol' Black. An "evening with Neil Young, Solo, Acoustic" had morphed into so much more. But only for one or two songs. That persona would later re-appear performing some familiar classics. What a great show. I was hooked, for Life! Have Not missed him since, often on multiple outings, in the Tri-State region. I also began wearing a Beige Corduroy jacket with Dark brown elbow patches b/c of Neil. I was a college student.
