NEW TIMELINE CONCERT: Neil Young + POTR - "EPIC NIGHT IN AMSTERDAM!" | NYA
The Amsterdam show of Neil Young with Promise of the Real from July 9, 2016 is now streaming on NYA.
At some 205 mins and 26 songs the longest Neil show ever (2 CSNY shows were longer).
Here's what we said here on TW back in 2016:
And from Neil Young Archives:
Amsterdam, Netherlands, Concert: Neil Young + Promise of the Real - July 9, 2016
Epic night in Amsterdam. 26 songs, three and a half hours, the longest concert of the current tour and the longest Neil Young concert in his more than fifty year career. "Don't Be Denied" and "Change Your Mind" first time on the European Tour. The total number of different songs of the Tour now up to 57, [sic - see above/below] Also, two song encore: "Like An Inca" & "Here We Are In The Years”.
Pretty cool that NYA is using TW as a resource. Thanks NYA crew! But sorry the Sugar Mountain link got clipped, right there at the hanging comma. :(

Great concert.
Here we are in the years is an interesting/unusual choice for a finale, but it works for me.
Great concert, please check my B&W-clips of this gig (and I was there in 2013 and 2019 too!)

I was there too! Was one of the requesters as well, but forgot to tick the box that they could publish my comments. That's now my third show after Toronto 88 and Trocadero 97 that got released!
Amazing gig, I was there with my twin brother, highlight after highlight, couldn't believe when they kept pulling out more and more songs. The 4th timeline gig that has appeared that I was at and they haven't picked one of my requests yet!
Love these timeline concerts!! Keep ‘em coming Neil
Ps
It’s looking like the next batch of bootleg releases will be up for pre-order very very soon….
Amazing show. Many surprise songs. So many highlights. Razor Love is beautiful. Winterlong fits them like a glove, as do Alabama, Western Hero and a scourging Revolution Blues. The band was in an elated mood that night. Dutch herbs perhaps. From note one of Out on the Weekend you hear the glee (this song doesn’t get the best performance though). The concert shows why Neil Young liked to play with these guys. The songs sound fresh and light. Don’t go there searching for the Crazy Horse stomp. What surprised me most was the sparkling funkiness of their playing. Especially Love to Burn (at 1:12:15) and Love and Only Love (at 2:42:50) get such funky treatments; although 18 and 20+ minutes long it felt like they could go on forever. Pure bliss and with Revolution Blues the absolute pinnacles of the concert. Moments where Lukas and Micah Nelson’s playing really added a new flavour to the songs and turned them into something completely different from the original Crazy Horse setup. The band continued to bestow song after song on the audience. Check out the great videos of the concert made by Rialto1961 on YT. Watch Micah Nelson. What was he doing there noodling all the time? But it worked. As do the bongos.
Greetings to all!
Neil Young fans everywhere should be really thankful and grateful that POTR entered his life. Even though the results in the studio were dull as dishwater, as a live act those kids really energized Neil in a much needed way. The 3 shows I saw them play with Neil were all fantastic.
Just the setlists alone can get any normal Rustie drooling in his soup, but the actual performances equaled the excitement of seeing so many unique Neil songs from so many different albums.
Earth is one of those great underrated albums of the discography. They bring out the energy of those album tracks that seemed somehow inert in the studio. Seed Justice is the best song off of Monsanto Years! Earth helped me revisit some old tunes that hadn’t caught on with me at the time. And a lot of people were put off by the nature sounds, but I found their inclusion highly original, entertaining, and profound in an unassuming kind of way.
They must have been riding high on the release of that record on the road in 2016, and I bet POTR got their wish, getting to dig in to all those deep cuts with only a couple of their band’s tunes on the roster. Even though I prefer Crazy Horse to play Crazy Horse songs, I’m stoked to hear the whole show. Like An Inca, a song for which POTR would be the only lineup since the Trans Band, seems especially suited to these guys!
