As this one has not been available on Movietone like most of the previously seen videos at this point, I’m excited for a rewatch, especially now knowing that Micah’s animation is meant to coincide with Neil’s original narrative vision for Trans. While poking around on the Archives today, I noticed some new Letters to the Editor that have not been denoted with a yellow highlighter. In these, Neil answers another question about Trans, confirms several releases still expected this year, and replies to a letter about Powderfinger with the recollection that it was written way back in ‘68 or ‘69. Wow!

I love Trans, but this could use a little more bass. It still sounds a little muddy and yet tinny at the same time. Pretty much like what I have on my iTunes already. I'd like it to really sparkle. When the Smiths albums were remastered it was like hearing their stuff for the first time. That's what Trans needs as well as Landing on Water and Reactor. Maybe the sound is just not there on the old digital masters. Cool vid though. I love Particle Kid!
Tew, I agree. The bass is buried, leaving the harmony vocals on Trans’s island songs to bloom harshly and beg to be attenuated. It’s cool they restored it, but I’d prefer to listen to my old vinyl copy of the original version. The CD mix bonus tracks have better eq balance, more playable even though they remain at 44 quality. The upcoming video version will be the real attraction on Vol 3!
According to the caption alongside the latest viewing of Computer Cowboy (aka Syscrusher), Trans - The Animated Story will be released as part of NYA Vol 3, so it seems that will be the first chance to view the whole film. In LTE, Neil has stated that the new BluRay set will be the most expensive set so far. The first volume street price was $350, which the second couldn’t match because it was only in CD, at $250 for the deluxe set. How much do y’all project the Volume 3 set will run? I’m hoping it won’t take up the whole tax return check…
