A fine complement to the Shape Of You animated video. They have vids for all the songs but Canerican!
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not a fan of music videos but this one has a unique quality that I like. And it focuses on the lyrics which is the essence of the song. I sent it to a few friends who aren’t NY fans and got some really positive feedback.
Peace 🙏
@ Tomatron - just updated post above w/ your Canerican observation and an image of Canericans on Ambassador Bridge at the United States and Canada border crossing.
So now why that might be? Just maybe ...
@ Dan - it is unique like Micah's for Human Shape, it does stand out from the visual clutter we're inundated with.
there is definitely a different visual style to neil's video of late. The L.A. Johnson cinema verite style has morphed into this DHLOVELIFE abstract style.
"To everything (turn, turn, turn) There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose under heaven
A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep
To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season - (turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose under heaven"
A time to talk to your old compadres before it's too late....
Vanity, all is vanity......
Great video, the song has grown on me.
Dont forget love. If you forget this song or video thats ok. Keep being you tho . Rob Halford said it best. He did what he thought was best for him . Anti vaxers are making this whole thing longer and worse. Oh lord. Extreme political views + pandemic that limits what ppl want equals idiots losing their minds forgetting how to behave in public. Good luck America w that
I'm the odd one out here, I find the lyrics very twee and dare I say naive and childish. I Am A Child.
I am agreeing with you Andy: I think it is a weak track on what is otherwise a very enjoyable album.
But, at least this one doesn't dominate Barn the way that "She Showed Me Love" does with Colorado.
See, I appreciate the range of views folks are expressing here, even when I don't agree nor quite understand the perspective.
To me, Don't forget Love works in the tradition of A Dream that Can Last, The Way, When God Made Me... trying to think of others, and I know they're out there... a final, emotive grace note that's so striking partly because it's sublimely unexpected compared to what came before. "Grace note" may be selling these coda songs a bit short, but is the best I can think of currently.
As far as She Showed Love, for me, it's an unequivocal highlight of Colorado. Always thought some of the response to the "old white guy" lyrics conspicuously vociferous. Or, to paraphrase a famous Caucasian: "Methinks the old white guy doth protest too much."
Now for context, when I go to the beach, I've never been able to tan. Without sunscreen, I burn like the Wicked Witch of the West melts. But I admire NY's sheer, nonchalant bluntness in this statement. It's disarming, maybe shocking. No doubt, some hear it as easy scoring of "woke" points. Ironically, I hear Young partly trying to communicate back across the chasm to listeners who may think he's gone nuts.
Mostly, I hear the song walking a classic Crazy Horse line between direct and surreal, culminating in a trance/mantra-like quality (think of Safeway Cart, Loose Change, No Hidden Path, Don't Forget Love). Sometimes, for fleeting moments, albums like Colorado, Psychedelic Pill, or SWA give me the feeling of living *inside* these sounds.
Lately, each comment I write seems to give me a fresh NY playlist. Things I listen to while walking or writing. A recent breakthrough:
1. Shining Light
2. No Hidden Path
3. A Dream that Can Last
4. Plastic Flowers (mixed pages Storytone)
5. Beautiful Bluebird
6. She Showed Me Love
7. Don't Forget Love
@M.R. Ian - thanks for A Valentine's Day playlist suggestions. Getting ready to load up for tonight.
