RARE VIDEO: Neil Young @ Mike Bloomfield Tribute - March 2, 1981
The video is labeled as Neil Young with the Danny Shea Band on the song "Nadine" and is quite smoking.
The date and venue is listed as Live at The Ritz, New York in 1981 and has been confirmed as the Mike Bloomfield Tribute on March 2, 1981.
From photographer Bob Leafe's memories of the night & photos:
I came to The Ritz to shoot the Ian Lloyd Band.
The opening act was the Danny Shea Band. Danny saw me shooting, came over to me and introduced himself, and then gave me one of the best tips I ever got: 'Stick around.........after the show's over, we'll be doing a special jam'. After the show, the place cleared out, except for about 20 people. I think it was after 3am.
Danny had been in the last incarnation of the Mike Bloomfield Band and was doing a tribute to Mike, who had recently died. I was told there might be a very well-known guest. When Neil Young came out, I knew I had something special since I was the only camera in the house. I later showed Danny the photos and we've been friends ever since.
That turned out to be the best part.
Thanks Bob & Peter D! Quite a night.
More on Neil Young's benefit concert performances.
ps - Happy 2-22-22 day! Now if we can hit the timing just right ... @2:22! Happy birthday George (no, the other George)!
UPDATE: Boom. They say timing is everything ...
... they also say that numbers add up to nothin' ...
