PREMIERE: "Thrasher" by Neil Young From THE TIMELESS ORPHEUM | NYA
Now premiering on Screen #2 on Neil Young Archives, a solo acoustic "Thrasher" by Neil Young from THE TIMELESS ORPHEUM Polar Vortex Tour.
Running a little over 6 minutes, the video is directed by Bernard Shakey and dhlovelife, filmed by CK Vollick, Neil posts on NYA:
The Timeless Orpheum is now in production for our Hearse Theater Subscriber Screen. For me this is a personal film, as you will see when it premieres for you. We have been editing this for two months. ‘Thrasher’ is one of the songs included in the film, a song I wrote in 1978.

Here's a bit more on our favorite Neil Young song "Thrasher", which we have had the distinct honor and pleasure of enjoying not once, not twice, but thrice in concert ... are we not blessed?
A major discovery was announced in March 2019 of the discovery of the original lyrics for Neil Young's song "Thrasher".
The Archives Team posts on NYA that:
Thrasher has been in heavy rotation on this year’s setlists, and we’re pretty thrilled about that; if The Archives Team were to make our own featured playlist this tune would probably come first. [emphasis added]The nine page original lyric manuscripts for Neil Young's epic, immortal and legendary song "Thrasher" reveal several telling lyric changes made during the evolution from writing to 1st performance. While it is quite difficult to determine exactly what Neil may have originally written, might Neil have softened some of "Thrasher"'s harshness?
So, to celebrate: we dug up the original (nine page!) manuscript for this delectable tune.
Here's what Neil himself had to say about writing the song "Thrasher" on NYA:
"I wrote ‘Thrasher’ in a car on my way to Albuquerque from Taos New Mexico. I was being driven by Carpio, a native American who I was introduced to by Dennis Hopper filming Human Highway. . . . ."
We here at Thrasher's Wheat would be very interested to hear what others might think Neil's original intent and where the song evolved. Why's that you ask? Follow us out to the fields of wheat where we'll be hiding behind hay bales ...

Framing a house in Massachusetts (on a crew) in summer of 1979. "Thrasher" came on WBCN Boston and the entire crew stopped working. Our boss said, "hey everybody stop, listen to this song, it is unbelievable."
Hi amazing Neil fans. I have posted a few times, most recent after Porch Episode, inquiring about Little Wing and appreciating the political nature of the 30 min film prior to July 4th.
Not sure where to post this - so here it goes> I sent the following via the archives and would like to ask you to support the request with notes of your own, if so inclined.
Dear Neil,
It’s gonna take a lotta love – as sweat pours down your brow in the spotlight during Rust Never Sleeps joining me for my breakfast. What a treat to travel with bandmates over time in all the other video offerings.
I want to share with you how grateful I am to have your music accompany the months of COVID. You and Darryl have provided us with musical gifts. Especially Porch Episode, a collection of political tunes to commemorate our Independence Day.
I loved the dramatic silhouette of Neil with the teepee in the background. I heard Bob’s poetry channeled thru Neil, not seeing Neil’s face as he sang “the battle outside is ragin’” making the song ring true again.
And you adapted Lookin’ for a Leader to capture the Great Spirit behind Biden.
I would like to request that you demonstrate the unprecedented moment we are in to agree to play as CSNY – to raise money and awareness to GOTV for Joe. Maybe a special appearance during the Convention August 17th to 20th.
Could you find it in your soul to forgive the wrongs of the past?
As a Californian who dedicated hours for Bernie both in 2016 and this time, I have channeled my energy to Wisconsin. Your involvement would be a beautiful gift to the country.
Much love,
Mark

@ Abner - great story. Radio?! We remember those and stations that played what became known as deep cuts as opposed to just the hits.
'Cause there very few of us left my friend
From the days that used to be
@ Kundalini - thanks and we support you and your efforts. Hopefully neil responds on NYA. if not, feel free to drop by again anytime or write us directly.
as for CSNY, well. neil seems to say never say never, so there's always that.
obviously the whole concert scene is upside down these days. seems like the priority is do another full barn CH tour while the energy is still there but imagine that sun is setting.
for us -- and many -- live music is better so just about anything offered is more than fine. solo, band, whatever.
a year from now if this continues -- folks will say we'll even take another Shocking Pinks tour ...
