NEIL YOUNG ANNOUNCES ‘COASTAL TOUR’ WITH SPECIAL GUEST CHRIS PIERCE
General On Sale Begins Wednesday, June 14 at 10AM Local Time
From NYA:Hello Subscribers To Old NYA!
Neil is going on tour! Can you believe it? No, of course not, neither can we. But can you dig it?
The 2023 Neil Young Coastal Tour, with special guest Chris Pierce, pulls away from the station in July, and ticket presales for NYA Subscribers begin this coming Monday, June 12th! Local presales begin the following day, and general onsale is June 14th. Keep reading below the fold for more specifics on those presales but first, the information you’ve all been waiting for:
With that out of the way, let’s talk about presales. For most venues we will be having presales exactly like we have in the past: annual subscribers at any tier will be able to get a unique code and a deeplink to the presale using the NYA Tickets page. Your unique code will allow you to buy four tickets to a show — the new wrinkle is that those tickets can only be resold at face value in order to limit scalping. It’s our first chance to try this tech, but we’re optimistic about the balance it strikes between non-transferrable tickets and laissez-faire scalper-bot profiteering.
*The Santa Barbara Bowl will have a unique-code presale, but those tickets will be non-transferrable.
**The Ford won’t have unique codes and will instead have its own presale with venue-specific rules about ticket transfers & resales. Subscribers will need to register an LA Phil account using their NYA email address by midnight Pacific this Saturday, June 10. The Ford will check those registrants against a list of NYA Subscribers (make sure you use your NYA account email address!!!) to determine who will have access to Monday’s presale on their website.
You will be able to buy four tickets across all dates at The Ford — this is a slight variation on our usual four-per-show policy to allow as many subscribers to get seats as possible.
After following this URL you will be led through account creation and pre-sale pre-registration forms. The venue will notify you on the morning of the presale if you’ve passed their verification and will give you further instructions about participating in the presale. If for some reason you haven’t passed, write to us and we’ll try to sort it out.
None of these hoops are meant to keep NYA subscribers out of seats (quite the opposite, in fact!), but this isn’t our first rodeo and we know no system is perfect.
Nota bene: Getting access to these presales does not guarantee a ticket, and if you’re familiar with these venues you may have noticed that most of them are small. Not, you know, Catalyst-small, but small enough that you’re gonna want to be on your toes come Monday.
See you out there.
love,
NYA

After ripping @Ticketmaster directly in March over its fees and price surging, Neil Young is using the company's mobile-only ticketing systems AND price-surging "Platinum" options for tour dates he announced Friday.

What great news! It will be wonderful to see him play live again.
Did he say acoustic? Or is it possibly electric?! I can’t wait!
Your brother Alan in Seattle
Please come back to Newfoundland, Neil! You can't get more "coastal" than that LOL!
I watched the zoom call yesterday, (my wife recorded it for me) and he said he plans to play songs he’s never (or rarely) played live in front of an audience. He also mentioned that he would use his pump organ as well as ‘Old Hank’ on this tour. We’re looking at Bend, as it’s the closest he gets to Boise. It all depends on how expensive the tickets go for, and being a Monday night I’ll need to take two days off work. Hopefully the stars will line up for us, but only time will tell.
Peace 🙏
Be very careful buying tickets because some outlets are already selling them this weekend and I doubt those will work at the show.
Example with seats going for between $178 and $1737 that I would think aren't legit since pre-sale hasn't happened yet:

Looks like I might be taking a solo tour of my own! I’ve seen Neil with the Horse, but not solo yet. Weighing the options for which venue would be best to visit from Texas. I’d really like to do this without a car, so I think I’m crossing Bend off the list. The shows outside Seattle, Portland, and SF are all still on the table. Of those, White River Amphitheater looks most rail & transit friendly. Any pointers?
^^^ The Greek on UC Berkeley campus is an amazing outdoor venue AND accessibility via public transit. Fly to OAK and take BART to downtown Berkeley. The stops in WA are in big Sheds if that is your preferred type of gig. I live in Seattle, and plan to attend in Bend but need car for that. Good luck.
hd, good call on Berkeley, will look into that!
If it weren't so sad environmentally this exchange above would be hilarious to Europeans. Tomatron says he wants to do this trip to the West Coast without a car and mentions "rail & transit friendly". Hippiedream's suggestion is to fly into Oakland (presumably from Dallas?) which makes for 2400 kilometres one way, then to take environmentally friendly Bay Area Rapid Transit (10 - 40 kilometres?). Of course I know that the US is a large country and a train connection, if there is any at all, would take two days of travel one way. If Neil Young was to play Casablanca (Morocco), which is equally distant from my place I would not go there and rather wait for the eastern leg of the tour.
All of this to see a concert by a guy who on his website publicly concedes and almost apologizes for having taken his wife to town in a fossil fuel car?
Thrasher,
Someone call Neil about the use of Platinum tickets. NO!!! He and/or his people helping put the tour and shows together need to contact TM and cancel using that process. His $150 (guessing) top tickets will be at $400-$1000 by one hour into the sale.
Peace,
Randy M
True, the West Coast is a long way to travel from Austin for a concert, but hey, nowhere is close to central Texas. I’m afraid of waiting for a leg of the tour to reach us. We assume the tour will continue past these dates, but you never know. Maybe by the time he gets here, the band will be in tow. And with the crazy schoolteacher schedule, I have to take advantage of summer break. As far as the transportation question, I honestly just don’t want to deal with the hassle of having a car for a couple of days. Concert parking can be a real nightmare, and if I’d decided to go with the Bend trip, that would be a 3 hour drive straight from the airport. No thanks! I’d rather take a train or bus to the venue, and the Greek Theater looks like an amazing location.
July 4 out? NYA updated to June 30, not July 2, and Ford updated to 6/30, 7/1, 7/3 & 7/5 no July 4th show?? What's up with that?
Don't count on more shows. Nothing is guaranteed. Poor Dan has to drive over a martian landscape of east Oregon. Not everyone has survived that. Dan stay in touch. Have you seen The Hills Have Eyes ?
@GDTRFB71, I see 6/30 added and 7/2 dropped, but 7/4 is still on the itinerary.
@tomatron, I didn't want to be a killjoy but still feel the need to add some perspective to these issues every once in a while. Back in the days of dash and daring (before I was limited to the crazy school teacher schedule myself) I crossed Texas from east to west by Greyhound bus and by Wichita Falls I already had enough of that. So to somehow add to the pleasure I suggest a stop in El Cerrito near Oakland at Arhoolie Records' No Mouse Music store, lots of music for the East Texan music aficionado. (probably BART accessible) The founder of Arhoolie, Chris Strachwitz, of German origin, just recently died at very old age. I wonder what will become of that store.
Dionys, I heard that. Took the Greyhound one time. That one time was plenty! I’ll check out Arhoolie if I do make it out to the Bay Area. Always gotta hit up the local record shops.
...and now 7/4 is indeed off the itinerary, but 7/3 has been added.
@ Tomatron & ALL: White River Amp in Auburn WA is said to have large delays after the shows. You can buy expedited parking but it’s a questionable benefit. If you arrive early and park near exit, that is best bet. Public Transportation? Not sure if that will work. The venue is on a the Muckleshoot Indian reservation.
The stars have aligned and my wife has agreed to hit Bend with me! Look out at the river, we will be there on floatees enjoying the show from the river. That is best seating when he plays Powderfinger! We will have a kayak & 2 floatees, and an anchor!
@ Thrasher : Logistically it may be easier for us to meet up at White River in Auburn WA, since I will be on / in the river. I am aiming for close seating at White River. TW meetup!
Good times are coming!
Your brother Alan in Seattle
It would be great if people use Cash OR Trade to sell any extras for shows they are attending, and arrange to walk in the door together, especially the Ford. Then TM doesnt get fees twice for the same ticket.
If someone can not attend a Ticketmaster show their face value exchange will be the only option, short of letting someone log into your account.
There will most likely be no option for the Ford & SB, if you can not attend.
The economic impact is just too much for us at this particular moment, as we are moving. The timing is always a gig factor when you live paycheck to paycheck, so let’s hope for some recordings of this west coast tour. It’s going to be enough of a stretch just to purchase Archives Volume 3, let alone two concerts tickets and a ten hour round trip to Bend and back. I love Alan’s idea of a floaty though. Unfortunately we just can’t make it this time around.
Peace 🙏
Were any other NYA members not able to do the Ford theater pre-sale? I'm bummed. Got no response from the Ford, wouldn't let me purchase, and I sent a message to NYA but they just said deal with the Ford. No basically, no luck 😢

It looks like GA lawn at the Berkeley Greek is not available for our presale, does this sound right?
If you see me in Bend in my black SF Giants cap and say any sentence with San Jose in it I will buy your next beer or other choice of drink. 1 drink per party. Up to 3 drinks total. This is your mission if you decide to accept it. This message will self destruct in 5 seconds.
@ All - good luck w/ pre-sales!
@ wsanjose01 - nice offer. if we make it out west, we would see your offer and raise it.
cheers.
trying to work out something w/ Brother Alan on Seattle gig but not looking like we can switch around our plans.
fyi, when Telluride was looking like August, we assumed August tour dates. So we made July plans. When Telluride dates got pulled last week, we again assumed no August dates, either and made August plans.
oh, well, after 4 years of no live neil, such is life.
"though our problems are meaningless
that doesn't make them go away..."
@Lee I feel you. I also had probs with the Ford presale. For some reason, i had to logout and then log back in again before the code was recognized. By then, a friend had entered the queue and got decent seats, so can't complain. But it was frustrating and clearly glitchy.
@Knowledge Nomad did you actually get a presale code? Did they send you an email? I never got or heard anything. It was just a big dud, haha.
I just got a code from the venue for tomorrow's sale. It's probably straight to Live Nation I think.
Oh, yeah, i got the email from The Ford with the code a little before 9. I went into "waiting room" and was promptly entered into the queue at 10. Was in the low 700s in the queue and got promoted to enter code after about 10 minutes, and that's when it declined my code. Same thing was happening to a friend, so i figured it was systemic. But then he got in. So, i logged out and back in on The Ford site and then I was offered seats, but didn't use them because my friend already got better seats. Anyway, i hope you're able to get seats, maybe at The Greek, since that's bigger.
Bend is 8000 ppl ! Ford is 1200. That's a huge difference. Man o man . I'm going to try to get close . I'm prepared for 200 EA for something good.
Was all set for the July 2nd show (only show that works in my schedule), got the pre-sale code, then poof ... the date was gone ... cancelled my flight and waiting for the next leg ... i emailed Neil's team asking them to stream as many shows as possible on NYA ... if they do it lets start a TW chat so we can live chat while streaming the show ...
Dan1
@ Thrasher : Sorry about your scheduling issues! I will sell my Steve Earle ticket so I can attend Neil Young at White River.
“Down by the River, Neil Rocked my Bay-bee” Or was that just the river? We will find out in Bend, OR.
“Look out mama, there’s a bald dude smokin’ on the river. With a big red sunburn and some fun and a man on the Ale.”
Your bobbin’ Brother Alan in Seattle
I just read that Neil is adding another stop? Lake Tahoe? I read this on Brooklyn Vegan.

Ticketmaster has finally turned on Face Value Ticket Exchange. Not able to go to Napa show on 7/23, just listed my 2 terrific tix in section SF1 on the aisle, and they are selling for $227.75 per ticket, including fees -- which is actually less than I paid :(
Very few tix left, all selling at higher Platinum prices. Go get 'em, and enjoy the show!
They released tickets for the Ford, all four nights are available now.
I have 2 tickets to tonight's (7-5-23) Ford Theater show (row F) but cannot go. I will sell at face value but I cannot thru Ticketmaster because they are not Ticketmaster tickets. Will have to meet in person in Westwood. Text me at 310-593-1965
