Neil Young: No 2022 Tour Plans "Until my bus is electric"

In yet another example of Neil Young putting his money where his mouth is, he has announced on NYA that he has no 2022 tour plans "Until my bus is electric".

In the NYA post, Neil writes that future live performances will be dependent on the availability of environmentally friendly travel options.

"For me, there are no more trips with fossil fuels. The tour is waiting for the clean bus. Not for Covid.

It's about the life and death of the planet as we know it.

But I will do everything to come to you and share some music."

Full statement on TOUR BUS GOING ELECTRIC | NYA.

Aborted 2020 Crazy Horse "Rusted Out Barn" Tour

In March 2020, Neil Young announced that a Crazy Horse Tour "may have to wait" due the global Coronavirus. This was after Neil Young reversed himself the previous week and announced that he would tour with Crazy Horse in 2020 -- after all -- even though he had clearly stated that he had no concert tour plans for 2020.

I'm a dreaming man.....

I think the idea of hybrid vehicles is the immediate solution, and I will also concede that bio-fuel is a viable alternative for the combustion engine. I just don't see an all electric future due to (current) limitations to the refueling/re-electricing while in transit. And when the batteries are dead yo have to bring the electric to the stalled vehicle, that doesn't work effeciently. Gas and bio-diesel contain energy in themselves, electric needs transmission to storage for use. I remember Neil talking about the energy transfer from the moving parts/braking, etc for Lincvolt, that would seem to have a future if technology can harness it. The shoreline, the solar and wind can assist in energy supply, as it is doing, and yes, some have made a total conversion on a small scale. Gotta start somewhere, but transition needs to occur, not elimination. I hope we find a way...

While I can see that Neil Young and Daryl Hannah agree in environmental and other matters, I can't see why these interfering judgements are justified. Everybody subscribed to "It's hard to make arrangements with yourself", but when it comes to actually trying, some fans start bitching, as if Neil Young were driving under emotional influence.

Not that I advocate to trade pardons, but European tours still might be possible under the condition of compensation. Neil Young might understand, that his dedicated European fan community could achieve far more positive climate impact than a principled rock musician with a pledge to not use airplanes anymore.

Makes you wonder how his road-eyes will be getting to the same venue with all of his gear, and if he expects that all of his fans will be walking to see his show.

Listen, I respect his motivation and mission, but if this is his goal then maybe he should just stick giving his fans "live" Fireside streaming shows as a reasonable solution to touring. I'd buy tickets for that - particularly if it allowed me to download the music after the show. At least in that format I won't need to sit next to some drunk azz fan that ruins my experience by hooting, shouting, whistling, and hollering over the music, and I won't need to pay $9.50 for a plastic bottle of water during the show.

That action would do more to save the earth, then one single electric bus.

Where does Neil think the electricity for his bus will come from?

At 1/25/2022 11:01:00 AM, Blogger Dionys said...

I somehow believed the production of electricity with the help of biomass, wind, water and sun are known technologies in North America.
Trucks can be operated with bio-diesel (i.e fossil fuel free). All of that is more costly and will not benefit West Virginian senators. But who said that the end of our freeloading schemes at the expense of our children's future would come for free?

The cynicism in some of these responses is stifling. I'm going to offer a couple of broad premises here, which I don't think will be too controversial:

1) Live music is better. 2) Live music, like most things people do, requires energy. The point here isn't to use no energy--as that wouldn't be humanly possible--but to use it as cleanly and responsibly as possible.

Neil Young (like any other singular person) can't change how other people consume energy, only how he uses it. Electricity is generally cleaner than fossil fuels. I would not have thought any of this was particularly difficult to understand.

If you're ticked off that Neil isn't currently touring, say so and leave it at that. Don't project it on to green energy, Darryl Hannah, or any other convenient target.

now Neil is going after Spotify - pulling his music because of Joe Rogan's podcasts...seriously, Neil?

In the 60's , it was cool to buck the establishment, right?

Now look, the American political left IS the establishment & guys like Joe Rogan are now the true rebels...

I understand the left doesn't believe in free speech - just look around

I guess Neil doesn't either - Mr. Canerican

The "left" is the political establishment in the USA? Yeah right, and my name is Mother Jones.

If all you can ever see is black and white, establishment vs. rebels, you're going to miss a lot of life's nuance and color. Can you imagine if we made every decision based on who was the "in" or "out" group at any given moment?

Spotify has a right to set their own rules, and neither Neil or anyone else is required to be party to them. That's freedom.

As far as I can discern, this thread just shows we're *all* cranky snowflakes with pet peeves. Again, just admit when things get under your skin instead of putting it on other people.

Electric vehicles are the future and Neil is simply FREE to do whatever he wants to. His choice to not tour until he can use an electric powered bus is his decision, and that is his RIGHT. How many of you know Neil and Daryl personally that you can make such judgmental comments here. Do you actually have any facts to back up your statements???? You are all FREE to have opinions, but don’t speak in absolutes unless you have FACTS.

I want Neil to be able to tour as much as anyone, but personal attacks on Neil’s marriage is not an acceptable approach in getting what you want. If your not able to communicate fairly, then perhaps you should reconsider your perspective before sharing your opinions.

P. S. I agree that LIVE music is better, but if the best solution for Neil to be able to play LIVE is streaming, then I’m okay with that.

I just read an article about an electric plane that just broke the speed record for that type of airplane. So maybe Neil’s Fans in Europe still have a chance to see him in concert. The alternative reusable transportation industry is growing much faster than most people realize, so nobody panic.

In an ideal world Lookout Management now would be working (or would have somebody working) on an ecological balance sheet of a land-based full blown rock'n'roll tour. A European outing would include a biofuelled transatlantic flight, technically that is not a problem. Modern jet engines apparently can digest as much as 50% biofuel. The problem here is that the quantities needed are not available at reasonable prices. Then one would have to come up with a certified compensation plan. A simplistic approach would be: How many trees need to be planted or how many square miles of rainforest permanently taken out of the control of that Brazilian pseudo-trump or how many fossil fuel miles need to be avoided by people who attend shows to have a positive effect on climate and environment? Tickets to live shows could have an additional eco price-tag to them to make sure money is channeled into projects which are trying to tip the balance in the right direction. It's true that this is not the pono concept of deep ecology, because there will still be considerable CO2 emission, but it could be a vehicle of sorts steering a large number of people into the right direction.

At any rate I would be ready anytime to serve as a deckhand for board and feed on the W.N. Ragland on her way back to North America under the condition that the food is not exclusively vegetarian but sufficiently organic.

@ Ian : My least favorite thing about this social media is when people get nasty, and start lashing out. If we can’t have a civil conversation then what’s the point. I’m all for everyone being free to speak their minds, but there are more positive ways of communicating. Some folks just feel like they can say whatever they want because they’re safe and anonymous on the web. These judgmental words can be hurtful to others, so there are ramifications. The past several years I’ve seen people become more and more cruel to each other. We have to start respecting each other or we’re doomed to a world of conflict. Just because Neil Young is in the public eye, doesn’t mean his fair game. If people have an issue with him I think they can still be respectful. Personal attacks have become the norm for the politicians, but that doesn’t mean we have to follow their corrupt behavior. We’re stronger together, and another civil war isn’t going to move us forward.

Peace 🙏

Rolling Stone magazine posted the story about Neil and Joe Rogan before Neil, or someone in his team, deleted the original post.

Listen, here's the deal. This is the United States, Neil Young has the freedom to sing about the perils of climate change just as much as Joe Rogan can discuss his views on the vaccination. That's one of the great things about freedom, sometimes it isn't what you want to hear, but everyone has the right to state their views. As far as I'm concerned, there is nothing wrong with that concept.

Now if Neil doesn't like what Rogan has to say, he is free to either ignore it or engage in some debate about it with Rogan, or others who feel the same. However, if Neil actually told Spotify "it's either him or me"? Well, that's heading towards the realm of censorship.

And I really can't believe an artist who has treaded the waters that Neil has treaded would be remotely interested in censorship of any kind, but if he is, then he is quickly losing me as a fan. I'm not down with any form of government mandates or any form of censorship. I'm hoping everyone here feels the same about this as I do.

I'm not gonna get into the reasons why, but it sure seems like Neil is becoming a lot more militant and somewhat tyrannical in his views the last few years, in a similar pattern to the political side that he has aligned himself with. Sorry folks, but it is the Left that seems to be a LOT more like what used to be referred very negatively as "The Man" these days. Here in the States, the progressives have nearly total control of the media, the entertainment industry, and even more importantly, higher education. And these folks, under the guise of what seems like righteousness, have become exactly what they used to accuse the Right of being, a group of tyrants who want to shut down and censor anyone who disagrees with them.

It's an upside down world these days it seems. Apparently there was a Nazi in charge here from 2016-2020, but it sure seems like the guy who replaced him, Neil's "guy", is the guy behaving like a tyrant, both in his actions, words, and behaviors. I don't remember Trump calling for censorship of his opponents. I don't remember Trump yelling during his speeches or calling reporters "stupid" or a "son of a bitch" during his press briefings. And I don't remember Trump considering sending US troops off to another senseless war as the current guy, Neil's "guy", seems to be ready to do.

Enough ranting. I'm not gonna get into anything specific about Neil's personal situation, but it does seem like he has different way of doing things in the last few years.

Dan—I heartily endorse your feelings. At the same time, I think it is important to tell the truth as I see it, to say what I mean and how I feel. I suspect suppressing or ignoring emotional responses, in the long run, leads to more hostility, not less. To be less than truthful diminishes the value of the conversation. So how do we balance these two objectives—kindness and honesty—to have productive talks?

In this spirit, I’d like to respectfully suggest Joe Rogan is not relevant here. I think that subject will do more to distract and agitate than create fruitful discussion and it may be best left alone, before it becomes a magnet for agendas not related to Neil Young.

At 1/25/2022 05:11:00 PM, Blogger The Metamorphic Rocker said...

Richie, While I think I agree with some of what you’re saying, but please consider this purely as a counterpoint. As far as I can tell, the alternative to Neil having a right to pull his music from Spotify, as far as I can see, would be telling him he *must* publish on Spotify. That seems equally tyrannical to me. Freedom of speech includes freedom from compelled speech, no?

I do not see any of this having a major impact on Rogan. And regardless, I don’t see an individual’s choice of platforms as having anything to do with censorship. Again, big tech conglomerates should not—cannot—be guardians of free speech. A company’s primary motivation will always be to do what’s good for business. Put simply, our rights don’t come from Spotify, Google, or Facebook, so stop looking to these companies to safeguard them.

At a certain point, we have to negotiate conflicts between a free market and free speech. Unless you’re suggesting there should be gov’t regulations to compel online venues to compel Facebook, Twitter, and even TW to platform content?

At 1/25/2022 05:18:00 PM, Blogger Dionys said...

Although I agree with Ian with respect to this Rogan person being discussed on this blog, I do not understand how the end of a business contract with a Swedish corporation for any reason whatsoever amounts to censorship. I believe in free enterprise (that's very American I learnt in school) and a main feature of that is contractual freedom (correct term?), nobody can force you to sell or buy something if you don't want to. Nobody is silencing anybody. Grandpa Green reserved the right to be silent on Spotify.
Many critics apparently find out, that Neil Young decided to be Neil Young and not the poster boy of their projections, and now they are disappointed that they see him shovelling in the other sandbox. And that's exactly why I find all aspects of his monumental work so attractive.

At 1/25/2022 05:18:00 PM, Blogger The Metamorphic Rocker said...

I know some hold it as an article of faith that one kind of freedom can’t possibly contradict another, but that simply is not the case in practical reality and no amount of platitudes or feel-good truisms can make difficult questions go away.

I'm not saying that Neil must have his music on Spotify. I'm not saying Neil HAS to do anything. All I'm responding to is the fact that Neil, or someone close to him, demanded that "it's either Young or Rogan". If Neil is calling for an outright ban for someone else, then yes, I have a big problem with that.

This has nothing to do with Spotify to me, I barely even know what Spotify is, to be honest. And I'm not talking about any government regulations involving any social media outlet, that's exactly the opposite of what I'm talking about, even though I'm no big fan of social media. This forum is about as social media as I get. I've never been on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any of those platforms.

I'm not defending Spotify or Joe Rogan, I'm defending freedom of speech.

A point I’d add here is that saying “Don’t listen to X!” is not banning, cancelling, censoring, or de-platform that person. One has a right to counter and/or not be associated with something they consider dangerous. I don’t see it as NY’s obligation to protect an unrelated person’s access to a third party platform. Hell, NY is an example of going his own way with The Archives as his platform.

I’m not saying it’s a perfect solution, but overall I err on the side of freedom of speech not guaranteeing a specific platform.

One final point, re: vaccines. As a child, NY had polio, with a long recovery and possibly lifelong impacts. Since the ‘40s, we’ve virtually eliminated polio with vaccination. Maybe Neil’s experience influences his views on the benefits of vaccination?

Two points must be made here. First, Neil didn't tell anyone not to listen to Joe Rogan. He supposedly put down an ultimatum to Spotify, "You either get Young or Rogan". There is a huge difference there, at least I hope you can see that.

2nd, regarding vaccines. I would say that nearly 100% of the people who got the polio vaccine never contracted polio after they were vaccinated. Anyone with an open and honest mind can see that is clearly not the case with the Covid vaccine. If a person gets a form of Covid after they were vaccinated, it doesn't say much about the vaccine.

It's worth acknowledging that NY may have more power than the average person in this situation, but it's not like the other guy is exactly David to Neil's Goliath.

Bottom line is I think NY has a perfect right to do that, whether anyone else likes it or not. He's been on and off streaming services before for any number of reasons. Spotify is a private company, so I don't see a clear civil rights issue. My hunch is, either of these guys would survive without Spotify.

I can understand why it doesn't sit well, but talking about censorship is a little much.

Didn't want to dwell on vaccines, but the main head-scratcher to me, having always known vaccines or shots as a part of standard healthcare, is why some folks are suddenly treating it as an alien concept. Smacks of manipulating people's paranoia and lack of knowledge to sow discord, imho.

They didn't get rid of polio overnight, but covid shots were developed in record time under extraordinary circumstances. Hopefully they will keep improving as new strains are detected. Meanwhile, a shot that statistically increases chances against severe illness is worth considering.

At 1/25/2022 07:59:00 PM, Blogger Richie Cruz said...

Because Neil is telling them that he won't allow his music on their forum unless they get rid of Joe Rogan. What is hard to understand about that?

Once again, for the 3rd time, Neil is free to do what he wants concerning Spotify, but if he is demanding that they ban someone he disagrees with, it sure smells like censorship to me.

At 1/25/2022 08:04:00 PM, Blogger Richie Cruz said...

A shot that statistically increases chances against severe illness is most definitely worth considering, just don't call it a vaccine, because it's not. It's more of an effective therapeutic than an actual vaccine.

And effective therapeutics are wonderful things, yet shouldn't be forced on people under the guise of a vaccine mandate.

Hi Shamrock

You’re right I haven’t listened to a full episode - There’s so much garbage info out there you start to lump it all in together and that’s completely unfair on my part - the ufc line was cheap too - everyone is stressed about covid and we’ve all got to be respectful of that

What caught my attention was the open letter by 270 scientists and health care professionals that requested Spotify start fact checking what he was saying on air - ie “There’s all these rumors that you would hear about what a hospital gets paid per Covid death and that the government gives them money and that they’re incentivized”

That might be true but you need to back that up with facts, testimonies from whistleblowers, what hospital is doing this etc otherwise its nothing more than rumours and it keeps the pit of misinformation burning

But also I should listen to the full episode before posting up my thoughts

luckily for everyone my thoughts are of little to no consequence whereas Rogan is reaching a lot of people and this was Neil’s point: “I am doing this because Spotify is spreading fake information about vaccines – potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them.”

Again everyone is free to listen to listen to Joe Rogan just as Neil is free to dissociate himself from it

This was one of the articles I read in relation to Rogan:

Wow, I thought I was on the hot thread! Someone said it in the above- suddenly vaccines are under suspicion? The theory behind vaccines has been confirmed, the history of successful vaccines is everywhere, and the reasons why this vaccine is no guarantee against illness is easily explained by the theory and by systematic observations. Seriously, this is not "rocket science" and it is just plain obvious that having the vaccine is beneficial in several ways (not dying is one of them, which is a current priority of mine). Pick up a simple book on vaccines and bacteria/viruses and all this "controversy" is gone. I am afraid the basic neglect of science education is having some bad consequences here.

If a person is in fact spreading "information" that is false and dangerous, this is prima facie reason to consider censorship. (Does everyone remember the grade school lesson about yelling fire in a crowded theatre? all rights are limited in various ways, right to free speech is no exception!). If someone's speech represents a clear and present danger to others it is a candidate for censorship. Of course, the US has tolerated many idiots who spew dangerous racist speech. Certainly this person Rogon (whatever) is saying things that are false and overtly dangerous to others. (The test here is false and dangerous, a conjunction, both need to hold). So, all kinds of numbskulls can keep jabbering if what they are saying is just false but not dangerous. I do not think, however, that Rogan is just saying what is false. The question now becomes "how dangerous" and in "what ways dangerous." The conclusion that he ought to be censored does not yet follow.

@Abner, Lol, correct. Plus someone else (even someone with the recognition of Neil Young) declining to share a platform with you is not censorship.

A privately owned website declining to post your content is not inherently censorship. If thrasher were to start moderating comments here, I wouldn't take issue. Obviously I'd be disappointed if it were one of mine (lol), but hey, it's their blog. And if it were mine, I'd want veto power, too.

It's completely up to spotify if they want to continue hosting this person, but Neil simply isn't obligated to use any particular streaming service. Lord knows I'm not a lawyr, but I really don't know what further remedy there could be.

Having gotten through all of that, as Neil's recent song says, "don't forget love. When you're taking and you could be giving, when you're dying and you could be living..." Every time I listen to Barn, those lyrics hit me. I think it's important, no matter how aggravated and vociferous we get, that we finally take the time to offer each other that kind of grace and human recognition.

Peace and blessings to all.

Not going to get into the politics of it all but Neil cancelled his Farm Aid appearance due to Covid. Now no touring basically ever again. Sounds like excuses for "I can't" for whatever reason. Thats fine and I'm sure there's more to the picture than meets the eye.

But I will say that as a fan for 40 years I'm disappointed with Neil. He's lost his way. He's lost too many people that kept him on the right track and the music has suffered. Ben Keith, Elliot Roberts, L.A. Johnson and several reliable musicians have left him without proper direction. Peggy.

The last time I saw him was at Red Rocks 2016 with POTR. Great show and for me as it turns out a great closing to a HUGE chapter of my life. No time for details but I never thought the day would come that my opinion of Neil would do an about face.

Thans for the memories Neil and I'll always cherish the past, the music and the good times. But time has run out and you are fading away.

So we've had people pumping themselves up full of Pfizer juice for about 10 months now, and cases are higher than ever, hospitals are still seeing the same numbers of people coming in for a stay, and we still have about 1500 people a day dying.

Now obviously I must not be as scientifically intelligent as you, which is exactly what you just inferred in your post. You are definitely more knowledgeable in all things science than me, so I must ask you how exactly is it that you can say that this vaccine has been effective?

And please don't blame this on us unvaccinated neanderthals, because there are thousands of vaccinated people who have gotten sick, many double vaccinated and boosted people have also died. So that argument doesn't hold much weight with me.

You come off as a smug expert of science ready to bat me over the head with your newspaper to maybe put some sense into my limited mind. I'm just a guy looking at the actual data who has some serious doubts and questions about all of this. Enlighten me, Professor.

It's just not sinking in with you, so once again I will explain.

The problem here, and the reason I brought up censorship, is because Neil supposedly gave Spotify an ultimatum: Get rid of Joe Rogan or you lose my music.

Neil has every right to decline any platform the right to use his music, no one is denying this. However, that's not all that he did.

Let's say our beloved Thrasher had his very own podcast on Spotify. And let's say that Bob Dylan told Spotify that as long as they allowed Thrasher a forum for his views, then Spotify would no longer be allowed to play his music. How would you feel about that? Would you say that it's no big deal, that Spotify should just not allow Thrasher on ever again? Don't you get what it is that I'm talking about?

How bout back when Trump was President and let's say he gave an ultimatum to Fox to never play any Neil Young music on any of their broadcasts, or else he would never do another interview with Fox. Something tells me you might be up in arms about that, yes?

You seem like a nice dude and all that, but if we're gonna keep having the same argument, I sure wish you could comprehend what I'm actually talking about.

You don’t remember the former bully-in-chief calling the press “Enemy of the people” and barking at his cult at his horrific fascist rallies to turn around to jeer and intimidate the reporters? Nobody in this country either party has authoritarian tendencies like Trump. If you deny it you’re just mirroring your ‘Dear Leader,’ and his pathological lying accusations that his opponents pull the crap that Trump himself is always guilty of.

I'm just saying it's not, legally, a free speech issue if it's a privately owned space. Just like free speech doesn't mean barging into someone's home and screaming at them.

I see the problem--corporatocracy. I think the best recourse is to build up independent media, since big tech companies aren't simply free forums and business interests sometimes conflict with free speech. That's about as clear, and nice, as I can be.

I've been on the receiving end of a Neil Young tirade when I worked for Variety and he came at me like I was the editor of the film section. It was something to witness and the photographer with me only got blurred images he was so scared it was going to turn into a fist fight in a little 10 x 20-foot room with four people. The tirade happened in Lansing, Michigan at the Civic Center there during the Shocking Pinks tour that I reviewed for Variety in the music section. Got a mention in Scott Young's "Neil & Me" about being at the show the day before but I don't think he knew what went on in Lansing.

Honestly, I think Neil has to put up or shut up on the Joe Rogan issue. He is a very articulate guy so I think he needs to give us some facts to back up the misinformation claim. I have also watched all three hours and change of the Dr. Robert Malone interview with Joe Rogan. Malone was in on the discovery of mRNA and some of that discovery is running around in Neil Young's veins if he took the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.

Clearly, Neil has been moving around the country if he recorded in Colorado and lives in southern California now. He can hop on a private jet and be in Austin safely and then discuss this issue with Dr. Malone and Joe Rogan.

That episode with Joe Rogan would bring attention to this issue Neil Young has raised like no other place in media. Joe Rogan viewership stands out in the media the way the military budget of the U.S. does. Kind of a sad comment to make but still true.

I've got my popcorn ready and will drop what I'm doing that day to listen and watch...footnote please!

The problem of modern mankind and, sorry to say that, americanized and popularized science, is, that scientific and evidence based theories have been downgraded by the media to be mere opinions. Well-founded opinions then are more or less considered to be biases by the recipients on all sides of the debate. And biases are a source of mistrust. For those capable to grasp the content I would recommend Niklas Luhmann’s system theory, but that’s over the top for a Neil Young fan blog, I guess.

Dionys and Ian have been hitting the points. Richie, sorry if I am "smug" but I was only trying to spell out basic points. The reason for declining efficacy in the vaccine is from the mutation of the virus (which is "random"- the RNA replication throws off mistakes and natural selection goes to work). I am not a scientist. I am not an expert. I am an interdisciplinary professor. These are basic facts. Now, analysis of the data does show that the vaccine still protects most people from serious disease, hospitalization, and death. This is all I am saying. Google: "why is the polio vaccine nearly 100% efficacious?"

Dionys, thanks for the reference, I do not know Luhmann. Pretty clear, the way forward is within systems thinking/theory/critique. (Elaine Code has a great work called "Ecological Thinking.")

Uh oh, I am contributing to pseudo-intellectualism.

One last thing.... finger wagging at the audience..... isn't it the case that Ian's point about free speech and censorship is simply right? This is all happening in "private space"- what is owned privately, which then goes to the other point about contradictions. Freedoms do interfere with one another or contradict. The freedom and right of association and consolidation of private wealth and interest have burned equal opportunity to the ground (along with historical and systemic racism/classism/sexism).

one last last thing, Neil's anti-GMO nonsense is related to vaccines, as vaccine research involves gene manipulation. I have a really hard time with the anti-GMO assertions as they are both unsupported and they harm the efforts to truly feed starving people. He totally missed the opportunity to critique big agriculture by focusing on the wrong points and neglecting evidence.

Magnetism is the way to go as far as I'm concerned for all power in the future. Have a feeling the working design for simple free magnetic power is already in the hands of man but suppressed by those in power. We don't get much snow in our area but it gets really dirty fast around here from the coal burning plants. Also, North Carolina is sort of the poster child for coal ash issues in the rivers.

With the short growing seasons of Grand Solar Minimum (G.S.M.) we are going to rely more on rivers and the oceans for food really soon. I'm shocked at how fast the mini-Ice Age is coming at us and yet Bill Gates wants it cooler blocking the sun's rays. Decades ago they said volcanoes would increase but I thought that theory meant two or three. Four dozen are active right now with ash going way up in the air like the Tonga volcano just last week. Does anyone remember Pinatubo going off and changing the weather for a couple of years? What if a dozen go off all at once?

Like with EMF (Radar Man's Disease) and 5G (Altimeter issues on planes for starters), there might be a lag time for GMO to be a problem for humans. That 5G warning to pilots during instrument landings is a concern since what else does it mess with in terms of hospitals, trains, cars and such?

As opposed to man-induced climate change mankind cannot significantly influence the tectonic nature of our planet. Comparisons with vulcano aerosol output are not helpful in the climate debate because its well proven that even the 1991 Pinatubo eruption (or the famous 1816 Tambora event) did not have a sustainable impact on the overall temperature trend on this planet. Tambora did not induce the Little Ice Age which already began at the end of the Middle Ages and peaked around 1850. Pinatubo's effect did not make a significant dent in the 30 year standard period on which real climate science is based. Pseudo-science needs to be addressed, it always begs the question what are the interests behind that. Fear for your lifestyle? The four dozen volcanoes active have been so for years, I climbed a few of them, but they were not in the focus of sensationalist media dudesplaining everything at kindergarden level. That has changed 1980 for a limited time with the Mount St. Helens Plinian eruption or with spectacular effects of Iceland's Eyjafjallajökull blocking transatlantic flights in 2010. Every time such an event takes place the projected scenarios published in non-scientific media are blown way out of proportions, a few years later when interest to indulge in these catatstrophies has died down nobody gives a damn. The inhabitants of coastal California and Naples prove on a day by day basis that humankind is of limited ability to learn from potentially catastrophic geo-hazards beyond their life-span. The only parallel to climate change is the anthropocentrism in otherwise totally different aspects of geo-sciences.

Well, there's good news and bad news.

The good news is that Neil is being talked about by the masses today more than I have seen probably since he performed "Imagine" at the 9/11 concert.

The bad news is that I have NEVER seen such negativity towards Neil Young as I am today at this moment. I remember in the 80's how disrespected he was, but that was because of his musical choices. Today I am seeing personal attacks on Neil the likes I have never seen. If you all don't believe me, go to YouTube RIGHT NOW and type in Neil Young and see what pops up. It really isn't pretty.

I think Neil made a huge mistake here, and the firestorm could really do some serious damage to his legacy. If I was Neil, I would be calling Joe Rogan TODAY to try to book an appearance on his show, so the two of them could discuss the issue. It might be very entertaining, Rogan is actually a pretty chill guy who likes his bourbon and weed. There is actually a lot of common ground between the two gentlemen, at least the Neil I used to know and love.

Of course, Neil might want to avoid all of that. Rogan is also a very intelligent guy with a very open mind about things, and is always ready for a good argument. If all Neil has are Dr Fauci and Joe Biden talking points to bring to the table, Rogan will steamroll him.

If Neil won't do that, he should make some kind of public statement to try to do some damage control. Because believe me, some serious damage has been done.

I am with Ian: the cynicism is ugly.

I don't have to agree with every Neil Young opinion to respect him for having the courage of his convictions. He has always gone his own way and had courage.

So let Neil be Neil.

I feel that way about his artistic arc, as well. The side roads and hidden paths are as precious as the hits. It really IS all one song, just as it is for the work of Matisse or Bergman.

Better to listen than to grade. Better to stay open to art than to judge it.

There have been many songs as good as "Old Man," of "Heart of Gold," in the last 20 or even 10 years, but we didn't grow up and grow old with them so they do not resonate in the same way.

I am glad "Barn" was getting so much good press, but it's not a departure or a comeback, its just another canvas.

Blessings and peace to all
