Toronto - Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Alchemy Tour - 11/19/12
From Neil Young and Crazy Horse put on a raw and rancorous throwdown at ACC | Toronto Star by Ben Rayner:
For Young fans who tilt toward the “loud and long” side of the canon, in fact, there’s arguably nothing sweeter.
So after not one, but two new recorded clumps of “Hey, whatever we got goin’ on, we got goin’ on” from the Horse in 2012 — June’s irreverent (read: “slapdash”) “standards” collection Americana and last month’s divisive, but wholly (read: “self-indulgently”) Neil Young and Crazy Horse-esque double-disc sprawl Psychedelic Pill — a fall tour by Young and Crazy Horse was a thrillingly foregone conclusion.
Psychedelic Pill claimed a dominant share of Young and the band’s Monday-night set at the Air Canada Centre, a raw and rancorous throwdown that bristled with an ageless vitality that would seem to support Young’s claims in Waging Heavy Peace that Crazy Horse is “my window to the cosmic world where the muse lives and breathes … Just getting there is the key thing, and Crazy Horse is my way of getting there.”
Neil Young & Crazy Horse will be performing tonight at Toronto, ONT – Air Canada Centre, Canada.

Great show. Some killer jams. But is it me, or was this show completely different than all the other shows on this tour? Maybe it had something to do with them filming (there was a signing indicating this at the entrances), but it seemed like they were a different band tonight. Maybe playing it up a bit for the cameras? Definitely a great one though.
There WAS something different about this show. Similar setlist to every other show I've been to on this tour, but the playing just seemed... different! "Fuckin' Up" was unlike any version I've ever heard -- the guys were rockin' so hard it was hilarious. "Ramada Inn" was a highlight as usual, but "Helpless" just stole the show. I just LOVE this electric arrangement. Got a pretty decent video of it too, check it out!

Only other show I saw this tour was Kingston, but I thought the whole group (especially Neil) were much more active, engaged and energetic this show. Pretty big difference! Walk Like a Giant still the highlight for me, but Helpless was excellent and that rendition of Hey Hey, My My was totally nuts.
Hi all deadly picture of Neil young on front of Rolling stone German Edition.
Thanks Ac! Das ist super geil!
Creepy, like the pics from current shows.
Damn, I really hope he makes another record in this mood.

Quick question. How early have all the GA people been lining up on this tour? Anybody get on the rail? Thanks!
Haven't seen Neil in concert in a long time so I was thrilled to hear how he could still rock it better than kids 1/2 his age. Even my beer glass was vibrating from the reverb comming off Neil's guitar!
Fuckin Up became my new live fave. Cinnamon Girl got a good dust off and Hey Hey was awesome. Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of last nights version of Helpless, but that's probably because I've always loved the simplicity of the song so an up-tempo,Polka sounding Helpless didn't appeal to me as much as almost everything else I heard.
Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed to see, and hear Neil still in great form!
Got home at 3 am. No problem crossing the border. If you have not been able to get good seats don't give up trying. section 118 had been sold out for at least 2 weeks until yesterday morning (11/19) at 6am when ticketmaster released the best seats in the house. I had my choice of seats in section 118 rows 1,2,3, or 4. I opted for seats closest to the stage in section 118 row 3. Enough about ticketmaster. Official Tour programs weren't available in Cleveland but they were available last night. It was a beautiful night and a great show. It's always special seeing Neil in His home town. Having finally finished reading "Waging Heavy Peace" Seeing Neil in Toronto at age 67 was very emotional for Me. I Loved it from start to finish. "Fuckin Up" seemed different somehow then in Cleveland. Neil's voice was just beautiful on "Ramada Inn". And His guitar playing is as good if not better than ever. I really hope He releases a Live album from this tour. And the encore was one for the ages. "Helpless" with Crazy Horse, in Toronto, does it get any better than that? Best wishes to all. And a special thanks to Thrasher, and a big Thanks to Neil. Doug S. Warsaw N.Y.
Did anyone else feel the concert wasn't loud enough? It felt like the volume was at 8, when it should have been at 11.
This was my 9th Neil Concert, Toronto 11/19/2012 (my birthday)! 3rd time seeing Crazy Horse, saw 'em first time in Barrie Ontario's outdoor festival Aug 31st, 1996, which was also 1st Neil ever, & saw them in Windsor this year with CH. By far this was best concert of all 9! Here's why...the last time might just really be "the last time ever"! Neil & CH were totally "on" and into it. Ramada Inn (and most other songs) was out of this world fantastic, guitar solo's felt like traveling in space, flying, made me think of what a similar Hendrix concert must have felt like, made me feel like I'm sooooo privileged to experience this, there was a portion of WLAG that looking at Ralph, Billy & Neil, they looked sooooo young, like 30. Truly didn't "look" that young, but "felt" that way, "played" that way. Mr. Soul & Cinnamon Girl crowd pleaser's, but also amazingly done with horse passion, I could smell the horse all night long, & it smelled like...passion, vitality, drive, love, spirit, attitude like a teenagers, optimism, fear & loathing of seeing the end coming. Which brings me to end of hey hey my my, Neil said over & over like...don't let it be over, don't let it be over, don't let it be over! Encore was a gift! Helpless electric played in Toronto Ontario. Of course, Born In Ontario got the whole audience standing & clapping. Entire house seemed, sooooo "into it all". Torontonian's feel like Neil is "ours". He's the Universe's! Enjoy him while his spirit AND body is here with us!
My first Neil concert too at Molson Park in Barrie,
All I have to say about the show last night was "that was f#$%n' tripped out!"
And my triple vinyl arrived today just like clockwork.

Glad everyone is enjoying this tour - wish I could get to a show. Still really hoping for some European dates next year!
PS Got the Psychedelic Pill Blu-Ray today. I've got pretty good ears, but doing a 'blind test' I can't hear any difference at all between the CD and the Blu-ray. I think this hi-res thing is basically a case of 'The Emperor's New Clothes'.
But regardless of that, it's still the best album he's made in many years.
The Flying Scotsman.
Here is another review from Toronto http://www.tmakworld.com/2012/11/NeilYoungReview2012.html
For a 67 year old Neil certainly is enegergetic and never flags. Brilliant concert; loved by his home town fans:
