"Helpless" - Calgary Encore, 11/13/12
Neil Young & Crazy Horse at the Calgary Saddledome November 13 2012 singing the encore "Helpless".
This was the first performance of the song during the tour.
From Calgary Herald | Review: Neil Young just never gets old by Mike Bell:
Pills. Grains. Lines. Absinthe. Shrooms. ’Shine. Numbers. Tabs.More on Calgary - Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Alchemy Tour - 11/13/12.
And, the greatest, most welcoming one of all, tunes.
Tuesday night at the Saddledome was a night for the ingestion of all things or anything that we, as the dumb monkeys we are, can trip us up, get us off and get us so very psychedelicized. It was a night where Canadian rock icon Neil Young returned to town with Crazy Horse in tow for a dose of pure, uncut rock ’n’ roll in all its electrified and raggedy, resplendent glory. It was a night to get real nice.
Seriously, if you weren’t one of the 11,000 voyagers who made it their mission to make sure they were in the building on this evening, then you missed out one of those occasions when the mind, body and soul separated and let each other wander inner and outer spaces in search of the answers, to find what really matters.

Great show, about 6th or 7th time I've seen Neil, second or third with the Horse, right up there as one of the best!
Has Neil ever performed "Helpless" with the Horse?
First performance of the tour, first performance ever with Crazy Horse.
Extraordinary.

Says he played it with Crazy Horse there right in the middle of the electric portion of show. Don't have a recording of it so I can't say whether it was done electric or not, but it is possible.
Electric with the Horse, Poncho on piano - much slower and truer to the original - says Neil, "We just worked it up in the hotel a while ago."

That sugamoutain setlist shows a flyer at the bottom for "The Legendary" Neil Young. Thats a riot! that was 1976! He must be a bhudda or a guru by now.
Helpless was played electric with the Horse on the 1976 tour. Looking forward to the Kitchener show on Tuesday, Cleveland show kicked ass!
@SS: Yep, a total of 5 times. I'll have to check to see if I have any of those recordings. I just don't remember ever hearing "Helpless" performed the way it was in Calgary.
I sure do love it when Neil does stuff like that. "Hurricane" at the BSB this year seemed like one of those one-off performances.
Looking forward to DC on the 30th!
That one soooo needs an official release!
Wouldn´t it be great to have an Alchemy live album, kind of like a tour compilation?
Even top Psychedelic Pill and make it a triple disc. Spread out the standard main set (with the best version of each song picked from various shows) over the first two disc and have the third disc with all the nightly changing encores like Cortez The Killer, Tonight´s The Night, Down By The River, Helpless and whatever surprises might be in store in the two weeks ahead! That would be great!
I'm convinced that Neil purposely named the album after the WORST track he had...then he put it on there twice!
I think he knew he had a gem of a Crazy Horse album with the four big epics + the 3 much shorter songs. But being Neil, he took a Cinnamon Girl rehash and made it front & center!
hiccup. doesnt really work for me.
