Neil Young with Crazy Horse last night was the greatest musical experience I've ever felt at a concert. Neil's a pure genius

From Concert review: Neil Young and Crazy Horse at the Bell Centre; November 23, 2012 | Montreal Gazette by Bernard Perusse:
But then again, the Crazy Horse experience is not really a musical one in the first place. The 22-minute version of Walk Like a Giant, for example, opened with a raw, dusty, debris-filled blast of feedback and ended with about eight minutes of ridiculous, lumbering noise reminiscent of an overamplified cat coughing up a hairball. In the main body of the song, plaid-shirted Young did the usual strangling of his guitar, hammering and bending one note – and the more he thrashed and throttled, the more distortion he commanded from his effects pedal, the more excited the audience got.
For the impossibly monotonous Ramada Inn, it was rinse and repeat … and repeat – for 16 very long minutes. The otherwise excellent F –kin’ Up was also stretched out mercilessly and unnecessarily, to a punishing 14 minutes.
But one man’s tedium is another man’s inimitable groove.
For every Young fan who thinks Crazy Horse are a bunch of enablers, bringing out all his most self-indulgent tendencies, there’s another who thinks the Horse define what Young is all about: no pandering, no BS, no concessions. And there were 11,400 of those true believers at Friday night’s show. They were with the Horse every step of the way, and Young seemed gleeful about it.

Hi, maybe this is not the right place, but is there any pre-concert meeting for the MSG gig next Tuesday. I'm flying from Europe, would be nice to meet someof you. I got a ticket for GA, West.
See you there
Mike
I just got back from the show, here in Montréal.
Since some of the songs that were played are waaaaay older than I am, I was wondering what I had just witnessed, even though I'm quite aware of Young's CV.
I was hearing mixed reviews on my way back, and a friend that I had randomly run into at the show told me he was close to preferring Patti Smith, who did the opening.
In my head, it was like : ''Are you all damn crazy?? This was truly brilliant, almost a new form of art!''.
I told myself it was may be due to my lack of experience in Neil's shows. So I started searching for reviews of this show, to confirm that whether I was totally disconnected or if those people really had missed something.
I'm quite releived to read those previous reviews. Thanks to Neil Young and Crazy Horse for an amazing time, there is still real music going on out there.

You are right LiLL, those people were damn crazy and also clearly missing something! =) I liked your comment.
I saw them in Austin last month and it was amazing as usual. If you don't like long songs and extended guitar solos (or Neil "strangling his guitar" as the reviewer said) WHY the hell are you at a Crazy Horse show?? (directed to the reviewer and/or the naysayers) Of course that reviewer may have just been there because the newspaper paid him to be.
And Ramada Inn is one of my favorite songs on the new album; can't stop listening to it! Good song to drive to. (So is Driftin' Back..and it lasts my whole ride to work!)
Curious to hear ......
Did he open up with " Oh Canada "

Long jams are what Crazy Horse is all about...the longer, the better...in my opinion.
That Montreal Gazette reviewer has pretty much always been fairly negative about Crazy Horse, so it's surprising he was as positive as he was really.
Yes, he did open up with "Oh Canada" - I enjoyed the show it was epic. On my way out of the Bell Center, I noticed a couple of people stating it started off great and then some level of disappointment by the time he was more experimental on stage (i.e when he played with distortion and feedback sounds for some extended period). I guess these are the people who only care about hits and such. I enjoyed the show and even his new stuff. Much respect for Neil at his age still pulling off amazing shows.
I have been an ardent fan of Neil's, in all of his incarnations, since I was in junior high school. The show in Montreal with Crazy Horse was nothing short of brilliant. Neil is a true artist whose creative spirit has never waned, whether his fans like the result or not. I very (very!) much do!
