Southern Man? lol
"Meanwhile ghostly images of three- and four-decade old Young and Crazy Horse films flickered on the big screens; the final shrieks sounded like Mechagodzilla stamping towards Bethlehem to be born."

Title of the article: "Neil Young puts on a show in sweet home Alabama"
Neil and Crazy Horse have lost no ground in talent over the years...phenominal musicians to say the least! Could have done without all the reverb, and the LONG, LONG, guitar solos, and why only 5 hits from the past?? I understand you wanting to promote your new music (which did not impress me at all), but when on tour, your fans come to hear your HITS, not watch you and the guys jammin on stage. Also, your encore would have left me speechless if you had done Cortez the Killer, instead of the lame song you chose. However, I am still a HUGE fan, and did appreciate the FEW songs I paid money to come see you perform! Long live Neil Young and Crazy Horse.

Apparently you haven't been paying attention the last 40+ years.
Neil, you're playing too many "HITS" on this tour. Your real fans come to hear new and obscure stuff which are every bit as good if not far better than the hits. Don't become a nostalgia act. When I want nostalgia I go see Toots and the Maytals. :-)

Also just looked at the setlist. You my friend are a moron. That set was riddled with many songs that any true Crazy Horse fan would considered classics. You also said the encore was "lame". What planet are you from. "Roll Another Number" is one of the finest songs that Neil has ever written. Neil is not a puppet out there to play what you wanna hear. If you wanna hear a song cycle of hits go see Styx or REO or any of the many '70s band living in the past. Neil lives in the moment and does what he wants to do, when he wants to do it. If you don't like it, stay the fuck home.
A comment about the venue....the ampiththeatre was pretty cool, and great acoustics. Also, LOVED the big screens so you could see the musicians in action. I did leave, however, wondering why HALF the crowd came to actually listen to the music, while the other half spent the entire evening either talking, getting up constantly throughout the show, and disturbing others who came to watch the musicians perform. Why can people go to a 2 hour movie and sit still to watch a picture, but not be able to do the same at a concert. It was distracted from my experience so much that I don't know if I would do a repeat show at the Ampiththeatre in Tuscaloosa!

You must still have one wheel stuck in the ditch. This band does not do a greatest hits thing. It's always about the new music. It's been that way for the past 40+ years. Better have another listen to WLAG and Ramada Inn. Both are epic
In a word: Blistering! Fantastic playing and incredible experience. Thanks for coming to Alabama and providing such a rare treat!
oh oh Alabama.....
can I meet you and shake your hand!
iIsh I was there at ths one too man. These shows are dynamite with explosive energy, true Neil performances.
Remember folks, Hit's you might have come to hear weren't hits the first tour he played them on so, WTF, wake up and smell the Horse!
GET IT?
Dear Neil,
Your set was great, but I would really prefer that you accept a list of HITS to play before the show, and that it be written by me, because I know what the rest of your fans want, because I'm smart like that, see.
I refuse to enjoy listening to anything I've never heard before, as I do not like new things, and wish only to wallow in the safety of the songs they already play on the radio that you wrote 40 years ago.
You know, those guys on the radio, they know what songs are good and what aren't, FOR EVERYONE. It's amazing, isn't it?? It's like they have special powers! That's why all your good songs are on the radio.
In fact, I'd really appreciate it if you just took this CD I have of your greatest hits, and play that through the monitors while pantomiming at the show. You won't even have to really play, just put on the CD and jump up and down with your guitar strapped around your neck. I think that would be a great concert.
Best regards,
Anonymous
Nice satire Matt. :)
Once again, we'll suggest the 12:33:00 PM review by Anon is bogus.
And we say this not because we disagree or think they're wrong. But because it has all of the characteristics that fit the pattern we've outlined before in How To Spot A Bogus Concert Review in 3 Easy Steps.
Thank you Neil for all the years of keeping us our toes with new music, keeps us old farts from getting moldy. When I told my daughter I was going to see you she replied " But Dad you are going to pull something" It's a miracle, rocking with yall has cured my bad back! It was great to see you and Crazy Horse having a good time.
the guy who wrote that story is a dumb-ass. ever heard of Rust Never Sleeps ? he didnt get that from Demmi
Neil is on record: when brother Ben Keith passed, Neil was clear that he would never ever ever play "those songs" again live. by that he means the Harvest songs and the songs that he associated most with Ben. We heard those songs on the Trunk tour - they were great. Asking for songs that Neil has said he will never ever play again (except on a solo tour) is sooooo irritating. Who'd of thought that 2012 would be the year of the horse with 2 cds.
I want to echo one of the other Anonymous poster's comments regarding the crowd. Neil and the band put on a hell of a show, but the crowd was so visibly uninterested in what was going on on stage that it was sometimes difficult to concentrate and enjoy the music. Maybe a little more volume would have drowned out the constant chatter, but as it was, the distraction was constant. I hate that that's the representation he got from us. Hopefully he comes back before too long and plays another venue to a crowd that will go along for the ride. Apart from that, the show was wonderful. The mad scientist motif was a little silly, but all in good fun, and I got a kick out of the fact that the Crazy Horse logo banner backdrop would fall after most songs to reveal another banner with a nearly identical logo.
In the book he said he's never play "those songs again" unless it was solo. He could never see anyone else playing Ben Keiths parts but he can still do them again alone! But I think it's pretty silly to do songs like that when he's with the Horse anyway. They do so much cool new stuff and they have so so much amazing old stuff there's no need! I'd sure like to hear a song or two off Sleeps with Angels sometime though. That was when they were at their best!
