Neil Young on Patron ZOOM
January 27, 2026
Hello Everybody,
Notes from the Patron call:
--------
Neil looks fantastic.
Says it’s the largest group of Patrons ever. May offend some people and get that number down!
Phil Baker reads questions. Zeke, Frank Gironda and John O are also not he call.
Will Neil play in USA in 2026?
Some possibilities. Focused on making new album because he’s got new songs.
New outtakes in the works?
Yes in the work all the time. Neil calls himself a giant outtake. Working on them all the time.
There will a list on the NYA music page with all the outakes and links to find them.
Does he have any ideas to mobilize and galvanize the collective musicians to stand against the Trump?
No ideas. Every American should use their conscience to stand up for beliefs and not be intimidated.
Are there plans for another benefit show in 2026?
Neil are you writing new songs?
Please tell us about your new songs.
Reads a verse of a new song. Sound like decent lyrics.
What does he think of the atmos mixes?
Go to Apple for these. Neil likes the original mixes and what he did in the first place. What the Archives are about. Niko’s atmos mixes are great and Vol 4 is full of them.
Asked to say a few words about Judy Greenberg
Neil says she was a wonderful person and a great supporter of his music. Life is sometimes a rough ride but she had to go. Zeke chips in to say she was the first subscriber. Neil says she was a one in a million. She loved music and will always be around.
Archives Volume 4 release date?
No release date. But there is a lot more information and then he (quickly!) reels off a list. [This is what I got. Please add anything I missed or got wrong in the comments.]
- ’87 Crazy Horse with Blue Notes
- Freedom sessions’
- Raggedly Glorious (3 sessions)
- Deep in the Valley of Hearts. New album
- Natural Beauty

- Catalyst
- Ocean Way
- Live album from the WiIltern (Joh Hanlon not listed to yet).
- Greendale. Return and Vicar Street. Vicar street video
Ever recoded a song singing a song in another language?
How is Canary getting on?
Last 50 pages. Final edits. Getting ready to do art (watercolor painting). End of this year. Maybe 2027. Working on it since 2017. Sci fi. Quite a story.
What in pipeline that most excited about?
All the same to Neil. Like the new songs. One called ”The Second Song”. Woke up with the melody in his head. Thinks must have existed already and so wrote new lyrics to it.
Any chance we will get a Neil Young biopic film?
Says he hopes not! Does not know how you can do that while still alive. Got some people he knows working on something but does not want to get involved. Wants to make a record.
Will independent venues make a recovery like vinyl?
Fantastic. One of his greatest endeavors. Art of creating things form real things.
How determine set lists for every show to show?
He does it by feel. Write down the setlist before the show and then deviate from it.
Zeke mentions that Chrome Hearts can play anything he pulls out of the hat.
Question about if he will organize a show to mobilize musicians.
Neil’s not going to organize, he follows the muse. Other people can do this better.
How does it feel to be 80?
Feels good. Thought he’d be scared until he was 80. What the heck? Who cares? A lot of things don’t matter that used to matter. Likes to stay physical. Walked 3 miles at 8,500 feet yesterday in his new shoes to not slide around on the ice.
Happy, healthy and well. Poncho too. Spoke to him last week. Played them the Trocadero disc. They loved the ‘new’ old stuff.
Trocadero has 7/8 songs that Neil hardly ever played with CH: Razor Love, Big Time.
How decide if play a song acoustic or electric?
Depends on how he feels. Some more fun acoustic and some electric. Admits not a good answer, he just makes things up on the go.
How has the Greenland free access gone?
How feel about old classic songs?
If tired of it, then don’t play it. No rules. It’s like the wind, just comes and goes. Bob doesn’t plan what he plays. He plays what he feels like playing. Follows the muse to play how he wants, even if not recognizable.
What’s on the new live album?
First song to be released is Silver Eagle. And then Big Crime. Incredible version of Cortez from Bergen. Best version ever in his opinion because it came out different when he sang it. Stopped each verse a line early and let the verses sync into a big hodge podge. Tells a whole story from a new view.
Status of Tape Sessions log from Volume 3?
John says on his desk. Got a list last week.
When is Coastal coming to NYA?
Frank Girona says its on the way but Neil jokes that business gets crossed with art.
Law suit x Chrome Hearts?
Frank says worked out an arrangement but can’t comment otherwise. Neil will continue using the name.
Spoken to Stephen recently?
Yes, spoke last week. Keeps in touch with these guys.
-----------
That's all I got. It's good to share.
Peace. Toby
Hey, super appreciate the near real time updates Toby!

Trocadero has always been a favorite show. Its been rebuilt since a fallen tree took out much of its roof in 2023. BA concert goers will know the annual summer free shows in the same park, Stern Grove. Since the early 1900s when the concerts began. Thats outside. Trocadero Clubhouse reminds me of a old train station. Has a long history of gambling, drinking during prohibition, etc. The show was the premier of Year of the Horse I believe. Good news the first CH is doing well.
I really enjoyed this. The team were clearly out of practice, the last ones of these was 28th Aug 24, took a while to put everyone on mute for example. Also Phil Baker is not a great moderator, he struggles to keep across all the questions coming in. Neil looked and sounded great - in very playful spirit and came across as though he really wanted to be there. Thansk for the write up - you've nailed it. Vol.4 looks ace.
Volume 4 certainly looks expensive... good thing I've started saving!
Looking forward to whatever form of new music may emerge. I've deeply appreciated the four parts of "As Time Explodes". Although it's absolutely important not to ignore what's going on as shown in the videos, I think it's also worth listening to the music while not watching anything. The sound stands on its own (and it sounds like there's more where these pieces came from).
Within rock and pop music, instrumentals are often seen as a novelty or (worse) filler. In jazz, classical, and other genres, it's entirely normal to have a piece of music without lyrics or vocals. Once you get outside the verse-chorus-verse structure, the instruments and playing have to be central.
#NoKings next gigantic nationwide protest is Saturday March 28th. Local, capitols, worldwide, Mar a Lago too?
We will not wait for 3/28 to go protest!

Trocadero! I have a great recording of it on cassette. What a show! Crazy Horse delivers I’m The Ocean. Hard Luck Stories is epic! The show has fantastic energy. It’s one of the best I have heard. Band was strong in song. Thanks to Neil for getting this one the attention it deserves.
In this time of mourning Bob Weir’s passing, I received an assist from our old buddy Dan hooked me up with CDs of the Grateful Dead @ Cornell ‘77 & also Egypt ‘78! Both are incredible & impressive. I have Cornell ‘77 on cassette tape as well, from the days that used to be.
Peace be upon you, & peace be upon us all. But woe be unto those who rush to violence against peaceful protesters. They will face justice for murders committed. Both of these ICE agent murderers will get rich from right wing donations. Good’s killer is a millionaire now, truly.
But the people of Minnesota have come out in force to bring decency & compassion to violent scenes caused by ICE. The Minnesotans have impressed and modeled for us all how we are to endure this fascist military occupation!
Call it why it is. This is a ICE “free for all” & these undertrained low IQ hair trigger finger itching for a lib to murder. These bully cops are not at all trained in de-escalation. They are all about escalation. They push old people down for no reason & as we now see, ICE murders people for nothing. They might just jump your ass if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. They might just shoot you 10 times for nothing & turn you into another martyr.
The people will not let this aggression stand. There are 10’s of thousands matching in MN & the TV news is not showing it. Media is suppressing the inevitable surge in this time of crisis in the US over Trump’s cruel & stupid ICE murders.
There is a BIG SHIFT happening in Minneapolis & all over. Our hearts will warm as compassion defeats hatred in the end. Trump again proves he is nuts with his “Bored of Peace” that only costs a Billion to join. Payable to him. Right. Nothing crazy going on here. It is so shady & corrupt. He will faile all in Gaza.
Hang in there. Something better is coming. Get out & protest while we still can!
The community is so positive & we feel healing together with large numbers of like minded people. Trump will be out in 3 months maybe. God willing.

Right on Alan! We. Shall. Overcome! Justice will be served. I feel it. I live & breathe it!
10,000’s of thousands MARCHING in the streets of MN
The king’s Italian Riviera is obviously doomed to failure. Hubris is a bitch, a bitch doomed to fail! Common Decency made us all Radicals?
Your Brother Alan in Seattle
Yes we will my Brother! And we will see more live shows here on Earth prior to the Great Gig in the Sky. Unless ICE jumps our ass & shoots us 10x for nothing.
Is America “Great” again now?
There is help:
#QuittingMaga
Still Your Brother Alan in Seattle
I meant to say Riviera of the Middle East. Italy on the other hand somehow objected to ICE coming into their country(!).
Not vying for a competitive exit, just another alternative w/o shame fer those of us that don’t do social media: https://leavingmaga.org/
Nice to hear Neil is in good spirits & doing well. This is more of an apology than a comment. Awhile back I posted comments on how I felt about Biden & Harris, not good. I felt & still do feel they divided the country with there open border policy. Not much to say about the white folks. It was all about BLM & poor mistreatment of people of color. I do feel there is a history of that. As a President your job is to unite people not divide people. Enough on that subject. Now we have a President that is also a divider of people. So full of himself & the damage he has caused world wide. He must be stopped now. I am a lover of all people. I am a middle of the road guy. Common sense must prevail. I dont think we have what it takes to get there anymore. There are brilliant people out there to run for office but why would they subject themselves to the total shit show in D.C. Both parties are at fault for our current condition. If I said anything in this post & my past post that offends anybody I surely apologize. Now onto to Neil. Thank You so much for your devotion to your work. The acoustic version of I am the Ocean is just stellar. Looking forward to a video of you playing it. I own everything you have released & waiting for whatever comes next. Getting older now & having some issues. Juggling nickles & dimes trying to figure out how to pay for denture implants, embarrassing. Love You All here on Thrashers site.
Regards,
George Beatty
Thanks George.
Appreciate clarifications here. No apologies. Folks seem to be able to handle differences of opinion for the most part.
As we've offered many times over the years, next Neil concert, we'll buy you a beer and have a great evening.
Nothing wrong with middle of the road. We swerve across it as we go go from ditch to ditch.
It's a rough ride but we sure have met some interesting characters along the way.
peace
Thrasher, thank you so much for your kind thoughts & understanding!!!! I would love to go see Neil & Chrome Hearts. There is not another venue I would like to see. Neil is an amazing person in my book. For a man of his age, 80 years young and still performing well is a big Bravo to him. Walking 3 miles a day @ 3,000 feet is astonishing. He Walks like a Giant.(Lol). Cheers to him. This might not even be possible at this point but I have to ask.The tye-dye, Thrashers Wheat T-Shirt. I believe was the 25th anniversary shirt I would love to get my hands on. I now only wear a large.I use to wear an X-Large until I ended up coming down with diabetes @ 67 years old. I went from weighing 190 lbs to a 140 lbs today. On a positive note by following a very strict diabetic diet I was able to get my A1C down to 5.1. Dont have to use any Insulin or METFORMIN. I have a boat load of Neil's T-Shirts in my closet I can no longer wear, bummer. I now am 69 & shit happens. I now currently live in Kearney, Mo (Jessie & Frank James old stomping grounds).Anyway I have plans to take those ole Neil T-Shirts to Jamesport, Mo which is home to the biggest settlement of the Amish this side of the Mississippi. That's roughly an hour north of me. To make a long story short I am going to have an Amish lady make me a quilt out of those T-Shirts, plus a few Beatles, Hendrix , Dylan & various other bands of the great 60's / 70's bands era of music. I can't just part with them as they are part of me. If anyone out there knows how I can get my hands on one of those Thrasher T-Shirts that would be awesome. Neil likes to hang onto the old & by utilizing those shirts to form another peace of art I think would put a smile on his face. Thrasher once agian thanks for your kind words and understanding. Keep on blogging in the Free World you Ordinary People. Love to all of you from my wife Twiggy & George. PS: My email address is MwbAms603@gmail.com in case anyone has info on the Thrasher Shirt.
Yes, a big Bravo for Neil @ 80. Long may he run.
Very cool on the old tshirt plan. Know that feeling well about parting with a part of you.
Regarding the tye-dye, Thrashers Wheat T-Shirt. We do get this request from time to time. We'll email you a followup b/c we seem to have ended up with a few XXXXL shirts somehow. They may be enough for a quilt itself?! Definitely let us know how that goes.
Also, we continue to plan TW 30 anniversary. Not to be vague, but we don't want to raise hopes too soon only to end up with disappointment if plans don't gel.
Stay tuned and say hi to Twiggy!
Sound awesome on the big boy T-Shirts. I will definitely order the new one when it's time to release it. I will definitely send you a pick of the finished quilt when it is complete. Have A Great Day!!!!
