Comment of the Moment: Neil Young Archives VOLUME II Arrives
Neil Young's long awaited Archives VOLUME II was officially released on Friday, November 20.
Neil Young Archives VOLUME II | NYA
While Neil Young Archives VOLUME II is now up on NYA with Discs 1-10 it can be listened to at your streaming leisure. Also, file download codes have been delivered by email. However -- for most who pre-ordered -- the box set itself remains to be delivered.
Here is the Comment of the Moment on BIG DAY FOR NEIL YOUNG ARCHIVES LISTENERS: NYA#2 ARRIVES!!! by Cyclebrarian:
My box arrived Friday around 2 p.m.
Was all I could do to resist chucking work for the rest of the day and if I hadn't had a report due and a late meeting, I probably would have.
Popped the first disc in the player and was simply blown away. Just amazing. I have to say that the mix is stellar, and John Hanlon has clearly shown once again why he is the best in the business.
Have been listening to the rest over the course of today, though I've skipped Roxy, Tuscaloosa, and Homegrown, for obvious reasons. And I just completed the download -- for those clearing out some hard drive space, you'll need just over 20 GB!
The book is nice, but not $90 nice, which is essentially the extra cost for the box with book vs with the booklet in the retail version available in March. I'd happily forgo several pages of pix of handwritten lyric sheets for some thoughtful reflections by Neil or a meaty essay by a good music journalist.
But, the music, oh the music, is divine.
That's great the your box arrived Cyclebrarian! You're one of the few to report as such. Curious on your location? In U.S.? Did you get your pre-order in early? Enjoy and bring us more thoughts when you can.
Neil ... A Captain On The Beach ... but the seagulls are so far out of reach...
And here's a review "Neil Young: Archives Vol II: 1972-1976 review – guitar duels, live jams and onstage banter" | Guardian by Kitty Empire (Thanks Meta Rocker!):
Discs 1 (1972-73) and 6 (1974) are the most replete with unreleased material, but rarities crop up regularly. Often, in this vast slew of songs, it’s the strangest that stand out.Fellow Canadian Joni Mitchell makes two surprise appearances, first as the subject of a ditty called Sweet Joni on Disc 1, and, more memorably, cutting loose with a shambolic Crazy Horse on Disc 3 on her own song, Raised on Robbery.
The existence of a Young song called Goodbye Christians on the Shore was rumoured, but it remained unheard until now: a weirdly magnificent tune in 7/8 time whose far-eyed mysticism belies its donkey gait. A few more CDs in, a lovely version of the traditional Greensleeves arrives. Its role in Young’s vast canon? The ballad’s use of the phrase “heart of gold” is certainly a starting point.

I'm in Santa Cruz, California. Mine arrived yesterday (11/21/2020). The sound is amazing! I haven't tried the download codes just yet.
I everybody.
Popped the first disc in the player and was simply blown away. Just amazing. I have to say that the mix is stellar, and John Hanlon has clearly shown once again why he is the best in the business.
Wrong.if you look the credits on all records, it's still the HDCD process.the same on volume I.
John nowland. Mastered by tim mulligan.
Sorry being harsh but I always look at the Mastering. It say a lot
Great listen to you all
I don't have anything to do with the NYA website because I find it to be a total mess and I'm not a person who streams music, but I was (am) aghast to see that Archive V2 is only available to stream to subscribers or to those 3000 people who A) Could afford $250 and B) preordered quickly enough to get a copy.
Why did Neil choose to leave his fans out of this equation? What in god's name is wrong with him that would make him think everyone who enjoys his music would want to subscribe to NYA and stream it?
I am baffled and disgusted with NY.
Gary
@Pat2963, I stand corrected. Thanks! As one of the producers, I'm sure Hanlon still had a big impact on the final sound, even if the fine tuning was thanks to Mulligan and Nowland. The credits also list additional mixing by Jeff Pinn, and additional mastering by Andrew Mendelson. Oh, and discs 2,4,7, and 10 were mastered by Chris Bellmman. All of which is to say, pulling off something of this level of quality takes the work of many hands.
Thanks for the shout out, Thrasher. But more importantly, thanks for all you do for the community of fans.
I'm out here in that uptight city in the smog. And the box says it was shipped from Carlsbad, which is about 150 km away. So, if they are all shipping from there, that would explain why I got mine earlier than most.
I'll add that my emphasis on the mix and the sonic quality of the CDs is that I think I had lowered my expectations. Over the last couple of decades, I've joined Neil in the mystical, mythical quest for superior audio quality -- bought the DVD-Audio discs and an appropriate player, got my Blu-rays for Vol. 1 and some other releases, and, of course, vinyl. So, I was half expecting to be let down by a plain old CD, HDCD or not. But it seems they've figured a way to squeeze as much out of the medium as you can get. Now that I have Homegrown, Roxy and Tuscaloosa in vinyl and CD, I guess I can do some A/B comparisons. Or I can just be a mere mortal and enjoy the tunes.
As an aside, on Friday before the box arrived, I was in an online meeting with a colleague, who is the archivist at the college where I work. As I was sharing my screen and switching between tabs, she must have noticed NYA in one of the tabs, and so she says, "Oh, you like the Neil Young Archives? You know, I did some work with Larry Johnson back in the day." She used to work in documentary film making. I have many questions....
Nothing wrong with Neils website. A lot of great videos show up at Hearst Theater. Neil also said Archives #2 was a limited release therefore he was upfront about it. This site is becoming more about people bitching about what he doesn't do instead what he does do. I usually just troll this site so I don't respond to some of the crap posted here. I will be receiving my Archives #2 on Wednesday. Ya snooze you lose. Ya bitch you lose.
Losing End
Whether the NYA website is a good or bad website depends on what you consider to be a good or bad website. I find it to be an awful website. If I was younger, had more free time, and didn't spend 50+ hours a week working on computers, I might like it too, but I have little free time and I personally have zero interest wading through all the crap just so I can find info on what I care about: His music.
As far as NY being up front about it, that's untrue. Neil is all over the place. One day it's this, the next it's that. There's no consistency in his messaging and I don't know what his "idea of the week" is this week and I don't care. I just want access to the music that doesn't force me to buy a $250 box set or stream it all.
Mine should arrive tomorrow. In have meantime I also listened to Dume and the Old Homestead. Just awesome. I have also finally managed to set up a DLNA server so in now streaming hires to my receiver directly. Sounds awesome, will compare with CD soon, I hope. According to Neil, eq and levels are the same for hi res and CD.
I see someone is now selling the hi res music from NYA Volume 2 on a memory stick on eBay for $50. Comes with the music from Volume 1 too. Not surprised someone would do this...pretty low move to me.
UK orders have not shipped and no explanation as to why that is or when they can be expected. Absolute fiasco, though should have been obvious it would continue in the way it began, given the multiple mess ups with the pre-orders at the start....
Same for me. Still waiting for greendale from the UK store. Archives II will arrives faster from the US?
The way of Neil....
That is terrible. I think I will cancel my pre order for ARGR and order it from Amazon when listed. You can bet it will be cheaper and I will get it on the day of release as I did Greendale
I say a lot of the clusterf--ks we're seeing right now, whether scheduling or pricing or announcements or whatever, prove just how much Elliot Roberts is missed.
Does anyone know how to tell the difference between the first 'Limited' edition and the second 'Deluxe' edition? I know there's supposed to be an artwork difference and a letter of authenticity with the first version. Mine has arrived (UK) from the US with no LOA (although it could be in the box) and a large sticker that rather unhelpfully describes it as the 'LIMITED DELUXE EDITION'. I don't want to open it until I know what I have here, as it may have to go back.
Mine just arrived (based in the Netherlands, but ordered in the US Store). Did not have to pay income tax, so including the 15% discount that came with the NYA Subscription, I got it for a whopping 60 euros less than advertised in the EU store.
The book is real nice, as was the Vol. 1 book; and shows that a significant amount of songs were not included (such as White Line and Sedan Delivery, but also an acoustic Come Along and Say You Will and other disc one stuff). I might be compelled to create a list of missing stuff one day,
The box was not numbered as far as I could tell.
I've ordered through the UK store. Not shipped, no reply to my mails, no link to download the files. And no message on the UK store.
With the Covid, I could understand a small delay for the delivery but not for the download...
Apparently, the situation is the same for all the orders done on the UK store ?
It's frustrating than the delivery is faster from US to Europe than inside Europe...
I'm afraid something wrong happens and the boxes for the UK store are not available and we will received only the second edition...
NYA Vol. II, ordered at the US store arrived in Munich today. One can't complain about the weekend delay given the fact, that this box travelled around the globe and many parcels are not delivered on saturdays anymore. As with Harm, no invoice for customs fees, but no LOA either. I ordered the box before the LOA was announced, so there is no reason to fuss about it.
Now it sits there, on top of the stairs, with my Persian rug and its sound to share.
I also just took delivery of my copy, delivered from the US store to the Netherlands. I'm really surprised that (like Harm wrote) I did not have to pay any import tax. So thanks to the exchange rate and free shipping, ordering from the US is a pretty good deal for people who were unaware of the (not yet up and running) EU store. No certificate of authenticity for the first 3000 or anything. All in all, considering the disastrous announcement and ordering process I'm quite pleased with the end result!
This is getting worrying for those that ordered from UK store. Not answered my emails either.
For those of us in the UK I am starting to think the 'packing' status might mean packing them in a hold of a slow boat across the Atlantic. Zero response to emails, zero sign of a download code. Despite the utter shambles of the UK Greedy Hand, I can at least listen via NYA. When the box finally does show up, might wrap it up and stick it under the tree to open at Christmas, of course that depends on if it shows up by then.....
Harm
The book the same or bigger than volume I.
Thanks
I've sent a mail to NYA archive team about the problem with the UK Store. They reply almost directly and recommand me to contact Greedy Hand here (in US I guess): GreedyHandHelp@wmgcustomerservice.com
Until now, I have just received an automatic reply from Greedy Hand with a ticket request number...
Evberyone can afford 19.95 a year, I don't care who you are. Loving the Archives V. II online.
Hello from Paris.
My subscription expired in this month of November 20 20,
therefore third renewal with musical enthusiasms.
Improvements, additions, concert recordings, new items plus boxes in boxes from the Archives that I will not order for several reasons (LP and CD), already in the disco and Volumes a bit expensive for my money.
It does not matter because I am a regular fan of NYA and with the cinema of Bernard and the ballad in "Lincvolt", I "confine" myself by looking on a laminated map, bought during our trip to the USA, the course borrowed ... very interesting this ballad.
Very funny the cover of "ON THE BEACH" I have the original where Neil Young looks at the sea ... well I go back to listen to "The Old Homestead".
See you soon on NYA
I kiss you from Paris.
Jose
Another disgruntled UK store victim here.
Their utter incompetence is a total disgrace.
When I get emails from them - they reply to about one in four that I send - it's pretty obvious that they haven't got a clue.
To paraphrase Neil: they've left this restless consumer pissing in the wind cos they keep fuckin' up.
I live in Bretagne.
The box is in the house much faster than I expected.
So happy.
Go for CD I.
See you latter.
Well, I didn’t have the extra cash in my small budget to pay for the Deluxe box. I am uninterested in the Greendale video; I may not even buy the CD version, which for me is a major policy shift, because heis my favorite artist and I ALWAYS buy the CD’s.
Regarding the Archives Vol 2, I would have bought it on Blu Ray as my first preference, already owning all of the released CDs except Tuscaloosa. I am resigned to buy Archives 2 in the basic CD format, but I am hoping Neil will sell the unreleased discs separately to reduce resentment over this debacle.
Having said that, I remain mostly excited to just HEAR the unreleased music, and hold it in my hands. I don't have the means to buy a DAC stereo system or pay for a higher level of Bit-rate-per-second from my provider. I may already have enough data Speed coming through, what with 3 students at home doing school on line. I went all-in on the Blu Ray surround system and saved money by buying used speakers for the surround system, which sounds like a million bucks. I still hold a kernel of hope that some Record Company Executive comes to their senses and sells NYA Vol 2 on Blu Ray someday.
As far as freaking out about a lack of performance from Greedy Hand US or UK or whatever, let’s all remember that there is a Pandemic in progress. People are trying to not catch it. Everyone is wearing masks. The contagion spreads easily.
Would you feel as upset if you heard someone died trying to get your product to you in a jiffy? Let’s keep some perspective here. NYA2 delays does not equate with an Emergency, nor something worth throwing a tantrum over. I get it; I am a hardcore Neil Young fan. I own 1200 CDs, hundreds of records, even live cassette tapes of Neil Young shows, some of which I was lucky enough to attend.
I am a health care worker. I do MRI scans in a hospital in Seattle. At the moment I am first in line at a drive through test site my employer has set up. I got here 2.5 hours before it opens at 9 AM because I want to ensure as little delay as possible in getting my test results. My MRI team at work is hoping I -and they- are negative for Covid.
I am unconcerned for myself; I am only worried about giving it to someone else. My family already had the Covid 19 virus at the end of February, judging my my light symptoms, Covid toes, and loss of my sense of smell for several months.
I have now got the same appearance of Covid toes and a range of symptoms similar to the first time I had it. I could use a stimulus check from my inept Government for Essential Workers. Christmas is not looking good for my family his year. But we have our health, I think.
I see nothing in the Neil Young Universe to get so upset about right now. Uncle Neil has given us a lot to enjoy during the Pandemic. We have seen umpteen videos he has given to us for free. We have listened to fantastic unreleased music and got to hear and hold Homegrown. The cover alone is cause for joy.
Get a grip, people! I know Neil Young’s Music is tremendously fascinating and wonderful. But keep an eye on your own greedy hand right now. Take a sedative or something so you can last another day until your package arrives. I find it ironic that some of you are debating RETURNING the deluxe package, while others might KILL for it.
Be patient. Neil is not a heartless Capitalist. He has not got managers with horse whips, flogging his workers like Jeff Bezos’ Amazon. You will get your product, and if you are lucky, it will be Karma-Free over no one’s dead body.
Alan in Seattle
@Pat2963, you have ordered in the USA, Canada or UK ?
@Alan in Seattle
What windbaggery!...you're obviously one of those types who always speaks and never listens.
Would it be so difficult for them to press "send" on an email containg the hi-rez download code and the code to the free annual subscription to the website?
I wonder why your're always in the kitchen at parties (insert head in hands emoji here)
Phil
USA.
THEY'RE REAL FAST
Vol II has just been delivered here in Glasgow, Scotland by UPS. I ordered from the US store and was expecting a longer wait than this. I was expecting some import/customs duty to pay but I haven't had to so far. It looks as though the postage label is marked as a gift rather than merchandise?
I've been listening non stop since I got my download code and it's excellent. Taking it gradually though and listening to disks 1 to 4 on repeat so far.
It's the perfect thing to keep me entertained during tier 4 lock down.
Bout the same size but hard cover. It does seem like the timeline poster is missing from my box. Anyone else?
Funny
The homegrown one is different and The dume one has a (Zuma)logo.
@Pat2963
The issue is clearly not pandemic related, as you have already received your copies in the US, as have UK and European fans who risked the Import Duty by ordering from the US store.
Even if it was, it then becomes an issue of communication - a simple email telling purchasers that "we are awaiting stock from the US - we expect to receive this on such and such a date. In the meantime, please accept our apologies and here are your download codes - enjoy!"
Leaving us completely in the dark is what has got most people's backs up (you have to actually hack the UK shop to even log in as there isn't a button!)
(Apologies @Pat2963, my comments were meant for @Alan in Seattle )
Ya, I listen to NYA, and have been enjoying it until my free subscription ran out recently. It sounds like you are describing yourself. Recall I said I was broke. You are just one more asshole expressing their opinion. Cheers. Alan in Seattle
Leigh
No worries.
Got the same problem from the UK and the US store.there's no account button ?the UK store gave me a account customer link.
Never saw that happening before on all the accounts I Have!!!!
Gosh Eddie77, can a dead person push a button? Maybe. I am observing the greedy hand of yours from a distance this time. The point is, should you all be this upset over this, at a time like this. Consumerism not working out as you demand? Go work in health care.
Alan,
A classic case of whataboutery!....and yet again not responding directly to the comment that was made.
You are a pompous long-winded fool with deep-rooted comprehension problems.
Now please disappear.
To my fellow Greedy Hand UK store victims.
I have a solution (I have now received my files).
This is what you need to to do:
Send an email to: uk-customerserviceteam@wmgcustomerservice.com
Tell them your:
- Your order Number:
- Date of when you placed the order:
- Email address tied to your order:
It worked for me....good luck!
Alan - as someone who is not rich (don't work in healthcare, but I am a public sector key worker) - I get that there are more important things, particularly in this world, right about now. As someone who rarely spends this sort of money on "music" (last time would be about 11 years ago I would guess...) I'm perhaps not aware that it's expected that you can lay that much money down and be met with silence. It's bcause I don't have this sort of money to splash around every day that I expect better communications.
It is clear the whole operation has not ground to a halt over Covid - US boxes have been shipped, even as far as the UK and beyond! The website still says "shipping as normal". Keep up that bedside manner....
Eddie77 - did they give you any inkling as to where the box is or when it might arrive? I'm pretty much interested in being able to be available when they try to deliver (dont want it walking out of my porch!)
Hi Leigh,
No idea.
I'm in the process of asking them while requesting the missing-in-action email containing the free year's membership to the Archives website.
It's been in a status of "packing" for about four or five days....that's when I finally found my order on the store's baffling and non-user friendly website.
If I hear anything I will post here.
@Harm
The timeline poster is a fold out at the end of your book.Don't judge the book by its cover... :-)
What we really do like about our British cousins is their modest, restrained, decent and disciplined ways. There used to be a time long gone now when everybody queued up for the bus... Now a lot of people over there feel short changed. Hold your complaints till next year, you are in for a treat, I am afraid.
Leigh
Go for your email confirmation order and view order status at the back.
It works for me.
@Dionys
Tell me about it - I want my boxset before it ends up in a Brexit Lorry Park, slowly sinking into the floodplain it was built upon!
Or indeed before Glorious Leader Trump goes full on America First with this Second Term...(though to be fair, he would only be following the Greedy Hand's example in that regard! :p
Is @Dionys channeling his inner Marie 'let them eat cake' Antoinette, one wonders?
And, yes, we need to gather as much home entertainment as we can before the tariffs and food shortages start biting in our glorious new "Global Britain."
an unnecessary criticism of Alan. Eddie77- really? One point embedded in Alan's comment: there is no emergency. Honestly, I do have the money to buy the archives ten times over- just being honest- but there are currently many other priorities here. Stay civil everyone. Alan, I hope you are ok in Seattle. It is very bad here in the midwest. Many people getting sick and many dying.
Abner Snopes: all we're asking is for a bloody email! One email!
Yes, it's a worldwide pandemic and it's happening here too (the UK government has handled it atrociously and the death figures are horrendous).....but....that didn't stop the people we bought this off taking our money immediately....and everyone but the people who bought off the UK store have received their download codes....but we have to get a bloody lecture??? No way!
I smell mega hypocrisy and cant here....
And you sound like a real Prick. And you are a big Neil fan? But no so concerned with Peace or Compassion? You should have been a Doctor.
Eddie, the Restless Consumer.
Will it fill your hole?
Finally I get a code and a procedure to donwload the files, by sending a mail to neilyoung@wmgcustomerservice.com
Just provide (as said by Eddie77):
- Your order Number:
- Date of when you placed the order:
- Email address tied to your order:
I have received a very fast reply from the Archives Team in US (according to the time on the mail). But no news about the box delivery.
By the way, the COVID is not an explanation about this mess... Just sending a mail won't change the world but will be respectful...
Good news, Phil!
I have also sent an email to that address, but just asking for an update on shipping and delivery timescales (downloads are a bit too chunky for my storage!). That was only a couple of hours ago, so we'll see if they get back to me.
Another disgruntled U.K. consumer here. Not heard a word, no response to my e-mails from either customerserviceuk or in U.S. Took money on placing order on 17th Oct, no downloads, nothing. It's an appalling situation.
Wow! I've just come in from work (here in the UK), checked my emails, and......nothing.
No download codes.
No NYA subscription.
No updates on my order.
No replies to my emails.
I appreciate that there are more pressing concerns in the world, but that's beside the point, the excuse of people being worse off than yourself can always be used, but isn't really relevant.
I was in business for 20 years, and if you take someones money upfront for a service that you're going to provide them with, you deliver, it's that simple.
If you can see a problem looming (COVID is hardly new now) and you realise that you're not going to be able to fulfil your commitment to the customer than the responsibility lies with yourself to notify the customer before the agreed date and try to work something out. What you don't do is fail to deliver, ignore their efforts to communicate with you and bury your head in the sand.
If NYA was some cottage industry that was new to all this and had got out of their depth then I would be much more forgiving than I currently am, but let's remember that behind the Greedy Hand is Warners for crying out loud, they're hardly new to this!
Given how Neil apologised pretty quickly after the initial mess up I would like to imagine that he might be made aware of peoples feelings on this forum, and if that's the case then can somebody start asking some questions on behalf of the UK customers who are being treated so badly. This is supposed to be a joyous event for us all, but it's being rapidly soured.
Alan
Only you know what this means: "But no(t) so concerned with Peace or Compassion? You should have been a Doctor."
Well said, Old Black
Well Leigh, it sounds like you have your priorities sorted. After my family, Neil Young Music is high on my list. I am definitely not rich. How many times shall I bounce my rent payment to prove it? Done! 😀✌️
Just had this response froom Customer Service - looks like net week for posting out:
"We’re working extra hard to get you your order out as quickly and safely as possible. Due to the current climate our production run has been held up in transit and customs, we now expect that your order will ship next week. We’ll send you an email as soon as your package has been processed."
👍🏻
@Eddie - no inner Marie "Cake" Antoinette, and yes, when the Greedy Hand UK store was announced I immediately thought about the chances that my order there could be a victim of "Brexit done" - and ordered in the US. I wondered why Warner did not open a store in the Netherlands (central location) or even in Hamburg, where they also run an operation. So there is a little of both: compassion for those who are left in the dark and those who never did get a chance to place their order at all, but very much for Alan, who apparently has his own row left to hoe and a very difficult day by day task that is.
Why I responded a bit too condescendingly (Marie A. style) is because of the tone and the language some of these complaints had. A lot of Neil Young's music and lyrics is about nuances that even I - with a different mother language - can appreciate. Being a regular visitor here I am anxious to keep my digital backyard clean - and that doesn't mean that I do not understand your disappointment.
wait, I was guess I was confused. Eddie77, you are just asking for one email? Well, I guess this stands as a reasonable request and I am sorry for misunderstanding. Alan, hold off on the personal insults "asshole" and so forth. This is not helpful.
Just had this email:
Hello,
Thank you for your ARCHIVES VOL. II: 1972-1976 box set order! We’re working extra hard to get you your order out as quickly and safely as possible. Due to the current climate our production run has been held up in transit and customs, we now expect that your order will ship next week. We’ll send you an email as soon as your package has been processed.
If you have not received the email for the Archives II digital download.The email with all of the details were sent to purchases of the box set on 11/20/20. If you did not receive it, please check the SPAM folder for the email address you used to place the order.
If the message is not in your SPAM folder, please respond to this message with the following:
Your order Number:
Date of when you placed the order:
Email address tied to your order:
We apologize for this delay and thank you for your continued loyalty and support.
Best regards,
The Greedy Hand Store
I have also received the same message than Leigh... Better late than never.
But I guess there were some calls between US and UK this afternoon...
Indeed, and probably expediated by a bit of pressure from a bulging Customer Service inbox... much happier now I know I can plan for the delivery!
Still waiting for a response from the Canadian store. I live in the USA and did receive the download code but no answer to shipping inquiries. Anyone heard from the Canadian Greedy Hand store ?
Quick question from someone who loves the nerdy librarian aspect of the Archives' numbering system: what does it mean that Homegrown is Special Release #2 and Hitchhiker is Special Release #5? What would be coming in between these two releases that is entirely not covered in Archives II? At first I thought that Chrome Dreams and Oceanside/Countryside would slot in there, but no, they both come after Hitchhiker on the timeline (and anyway, is Chrome Dreams really worth a release now that it's had nearly all its songs represented on different projects?).
Just wondering what the deal is. I'm OK with breaking chronology a little bit (vol. II is f'ing beautiful in how it manages to make 10 listenable albums out of such a chronological mess), but having two '77 releases come after a '76 release is a stretch. Am I missing something here?
mine arrived today ( UK but ordered off US site)
i thought they were all supposed to be individually numbered?
Not individually numbered. The people that managed to order the first edition will get a letter of authenticity.
@Abner Snopes
...well maybe two emails but, more generally, a sign or two that they knew what they were doing.
We paid up front weeks ago so why do we have to push them all the way to get what we paid for?
And that email that we all got today after hassling them that says "you should have got etc" and "try your spam folder" is just insulting, isn't it?
@eddie77 Fake news, they never sent an email. Checked with two other people who ordered off the UK store and none of us received it on the 20th Nov. Hoping they'll send it tomorrow and now looks like maybe my box will arrive sometime next week.
Same here. Ordered from UK store. No downloads. Provided order details about 3 times now. Not good. I can accept a delay with the physical box set, but not the download codes. How difficult can it be? I suspect they don't have sufficient bandwidth to cope with 3,000 individuals downloading FLAC files (or at least I hope that's the reason). I wonder if something more nefarious is at play?
@ANDREW BYROM
Indeed that's what I meant.
When they say "you should have received an email" what they really meant was "WE should have sent an email..."
As Ian Brown of the Stone Roses once said on TV after the electricity failed on a live broadcast of the group: "Amateurs! Amateurs!"
Well at least nobody died and surely the knowledge it is arriving, spare a thought for the poor buggers who ordered it and are now lying in hospital with COVID, is good enough. Personally I would rather have a vaccine than a boxset, easy to say when you have got one I know. Can't wait for the Vol III fiasco assuming I haven't succumbed to COVID
sorry to hear so many are having trouble, particularly those in UK.
as w/ NYA#1, it seems that customer service is listening and trying to help as best they can. So keep trying by submitting your issues. frustrating yes, but boxes are starting to arrive all over EARTH.

if you rec'd a box, post at link above with your location & thoughts.

Stunned by this collection. These tunes that just wandered in from the wilderness, transformed, prefigured, unveiled, even omitted. Each iteration itself a revelation. Ten landscapes of sequence, stories everywhere.
Can't believe the bitching on here; subscribe to NYA and fuck off!

I see you call yourself "silent Indian".....what happened to that?
@tolstoigorky
The people who've bought the box HAVE subscribed. By buying the box, they were promised a yearly subscription to the archives website, but this code hasn't been emailed to them. Why should they pay twice for the same thing? So why don't YOU kindly fuck off? It's a genius move when the people paying a couple of quid a month get to hear this thing before those who've paid £210.
@johnnycutler
Well said!!! (insert applause emoji here...:))
once again, can you please avoid the hostility? this is precisely why the internet is so damn dangerous. we can all do without "fuck off".....
@johnnycutler
Well said.
@tolstoigorky
I don't know who it was who said this, but it goes something like this:
"I'd rather keep my mouth shut and have people think that I'm an idiot than open it and remove all doubt."
@johnnycultler
it's a genius move to pay £210 and not hear the music that those paying a couple of quid a month are already enjoying in high definition.
Can we avoid the hostility towards Neil, record companies, postal services, music shops, etc, during a pandemic? It's not very "peace, love and understanding"?
@eddie77
What did the silent Indian do at the end of the book/film when he decided enough was enough?
I come here to read about Neil and his music, not bread head moaning about distribution networks.
Peace and love to all (no more fuck offs).
@tolstoigorky
"breadhead"....:)
Are you a time traveller from the 60s?
Same for my order to Canadian store from Paris, France. I sent an e-mail asking when the Archives would be shipped. No answer yet...
No emergency for sure, but frustrated knowing many received the box set.
Wait & see.
Did hear back from Canadian store . Short sentence saying my box set was being "processed" and that I'll be sent a tracking number when it ships.
Sadly for U.K. customers the wait goes on, as does the wait to be given access to the Archives, which is simply wrong. We paid our money for the box set and a subscription 6 weeks ago and have received nothing. It's a shocking failure from Greedy Hand himself and whatever team is allegedly supporting him in his efforts.
To follow Unknowns comment, I too have still received nothing, nor have heard anything after emailing 3 times. It's a disgrace. To underline just how shoddily us UK customers have been treated, allow me to offer this comparison please:
A deluxe, all singing all dancing box set of 14 of the films made by Italian director Federico Fellini has just been released in the U.S. by a specialist company. The set hasn't been released in the UK as due to contractual matters the blu ray discs are region A and locked, so they won't play on european players. I have a player that has been adapted to play any disc from anywhere, solely for situations like this. I approached the U.S. arm of Amazon and enquired if they would be able to source a box for me. They replied instantly, adjusted the price very favourably to U.K. sterling, arranged the import duties, gave me tracking, and said the box would arrive at my door 2 days after the U.S. release date.
It arrived yesterday, bang on time. During a pandemic.
Now, I'm not trying to big up Amazon as I'm aware that they are a very controversial company, but what I am saying is that maybe Neil might have been better leaving the logistics of the Volume 2 box to a more specialist concern. I read amongst all the posts here that somebody is still waiting for the greedy hand to deliver a copy of return to greendale, I got mine on release day from Amazon.
All I'm saying is that this shows that it can be done, decent customer service is possible, that we all could've had our boxes by now and that all of the postings on here would then have been all about the joy of the music and not, as @tolstoigorky fairly pointed out, all about poor distribution. I know I would have much rather have been listening to Neil than tapping away at a keyboard......
I too have heard nothing from the grabbing hand of warners other than an email asking for details as had not had emails with hi res and Nya membership, since then nothing!! When I go on view my order status it takes me to greedy hand store and notice about additional set, make me wonder if I have an order at all. Just wondering if there are others with the same problem? If it turns out I have no order then going to ask for refund and free copy of the next issue, and also a refund for the interest charges on my wifes credit card.

To unknown. Try this. It's a link they mail me.
This is a useful link! My status says ‘packing’. Sounds good.
Thanks Pat 2963 it worked but don't understand why greedy hand of warners doesn't have this link on.It says packing but feel all this means is that it is half way across the Atlantic on the back of a greased up swimmer. The email meantime lies at the bottom of the ocean drowning. This has been a fiasco from the beginning, lets hope it gets better before the end
Right packing unless it says shipped.click on shipped and you'll have the tracking. UPS I think
It's a really convuloted site!!!!
SHAKEY convoluted site !!!
Still no response to my email requests for download codes and no update on the physical box shipping... anyone hear anything?
@Leigh
I got my download code and, eventually, my archives website subscription code by sending an email to:
neilyoung@wmgcustomerservice.com and uk-customerserviceteam@wmgcustomerservice.com
Just provide:
- Your order Number:
- Date of when you placed the order:
- Email address tied to your order:
As for the actual box itself, no sign of it. I believe that's the same for everyone who ordered from the UK store.
Eddie77 -sent email9s) the the latter address as instructed by an earlier response, but absolute radio silence since then. Surely they must have twigged that no UK store user got the codes? It's infuriating
@Leigh
I know for a fact a number of UK store users did get the codes but no-one got the box.
Try sending the email to both addresses at once.
I have sent 4 emails every day for last 7 days, also to USA. Even emailed NYA twice last on Friday, got a response today but same as others.Rang warners but not able to be put through customer services just given email again cue email no 30.Given lockdown maybe there is no one except receptionist available but again as has been said before why not explanatory email? Too many orders not enough boxsets to go round!!!
Ok you are now taking the piss, tonight I received an email telling me I can buy the pre-order of archives vol II through the greedy hand of warners store. Last week I should have received my emails with the hi res downloads info plus the NYA membership. Today I had to pay on my credit card the membership fee, that I was hoping to use the code for. I have not received either email nor my box set, can you guess where I ordered it from - yes your absolutely useless UK store!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a joke, I was worried about paying importation duties however it seems they arrived without any such charges, more fool me. They did email telling some cock and bull story about problems with sets being held up in customs etc- while others from the USA sailed through with wings on- the email asked for details if you had not received emails with hi res details and membership. I replied to said email immediately with all the information required. I have so far heard nothing, I have sent further emails and even resorted to emailing the USA. My wife bought this for my Christmas present from my kids, on her in debt credit card so she has been paying interest on something that has not materialised. I believe that too many orders were taken and there are not enough box sets to fulfil all the orders and nobody wants to own up. I am very, very very, very, very ,very ,very angry about the whole situation. What I want is answers and not to be told to ask the greedy hand of warners as they have proved to absolutely useless so far. you are very lucky I have been this restrained as normally I swear like the true Scotsman I am. Please sort this out as I don't want to be buried with the unopened box set!!!!!! FOR FUCK SAKE SORT IT OUT. Yours very angrily
Sorry should have said this is an email I sent to NYA, Warners greedy hand and everyone I can think of
I never bought the box set. Without the Blu ray or DVD format and only cds ,it's completely pointless for me to own it.
I received my download code for the Archives II release today from the uk-customerservice team. Still no sign of the box set yet, my status still says 'packing'.
Message changed from stuck in customs to delay in receiving stock from supplier! Guess that could be because stuck in customs
Well its now gone from problems with customs to problems with supplier - Greedy Hand ARE the supplier! I've tweeted @NeilYoungNYA on Twitter - if anyone else wants to politely join me there to put some pressure on them for more clarity than "Supplier"
https://twitter.com/NeilYoungNYA
Unknown, where did you find that info please? My status still says "not shipped / packing." Thanks.
Unknown, where did you get that info? My status still says "not shipped / packing". I've emailed the NYA team again to see if they can shed some light on this for us. The silence from the greedy hand is just offensive now.
Same for me. Status remains "packing". I received the download code however after having written to all the email addresses provided in this thread.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
We’re anxious for you to receive and enjoy this amazing body of work.

Received some heartening news from Warners late this afternoon, here in the U.K. The box sets have cleared customs and are due to ship out to customers next week. They also said we should have received download codes, I have and redemption certificates for the NYA subscription, I have not.
Received this message 2 hours ago:

Just received this mail: "As you may be aware, our shipment of Archives II box sets had been held up in customs. We are happy to report that it’s now been released and your order will be shipping next week." Yeah!! In time for under the Xmas tree.

The problems continue for customers in the U.K. Having received my downloads last week and my notification that orders would ship to us this week, we still await shipping confirmations. Today i received the code to access the Archives for a year as part of the deal when buying the 10 cd box set. I inserted the access code, NOTHING, a message, sorry payment not accepted. What is going on? This has become a total an utter farce from both the NYA people and Warner Brothers. So sad but the excitement and expectation has been destroyed by incompetence and one hand simply not knowing what the other hand is doing.
I have just been offered a boxset from the USA by Warners instead of waiting for my UK one to arrive. How is this possible when they have all sold out
"We are happy to report that it’s now been released and your order will be shipping next week."
I got the same email and since then - that was nine days ago - silence.
Yesterday, I - and I presume everyone else - who bought the box from the UK store marked the three-week anniversary of its release with no box in sight....
What a complete and utter *uck-up!
To those who bought from the UK store, any update since this?:
"We are happy to report that it’s now been released and your order will be shipping next week."
All I can report is silence....
