INTERVIEW: Neil Young's "Honor The Treaties" Tour | Q with Jian Ghomeshi | CBC Radio
As we've been reporting over the past week, huge amounts of controversy over Neil Young's "Honor The Treaties" tour and related press conferences.
Regardless of your position on the Alberta Tar Sands environmental impacts and First nations peoples, all across Canada there's consensus that Neil Young's comments have finally started a long delayed national dialogue.
In an interview with Jian Ghomeshi, Neil comments on his impressions of the Alberta Tar Sands operations and his comparison of Fort McMurray to Hiroshima. "I always felt that Canada was a different place, where the values were different and where we cherish the natural surroundings that we're in. But my visit to Alberta changed a lot of that for me," Young says while defending his right to speak freely take political stands.

Prodigal son returning home ....
Wow, just watched this video, very empowering. Absolutely awesome that someone (neil in this case) is speaking up on what they believe (right or wrong). We should all research the facts ourselves and make up our own mind and not criticise those for actually speaking out. Better to die on your feet than to live on your knees!! The only way this world will be a better place is to start questioning and to seek real answers before its all too late. Congrats to neil for pursuing the truth.
Thank you, Thrasher. This issue is really starting to reach a boiling point. For anyone in the Washington, DC area, large billboards/advertisements have appearred in Metro stations touting the energy relationship between the U.S. and Canada. The PR blitz is on.
The fact that Neil is speaking up in the defense of the First Nations' legal rights and entironmental concerns is extraordinary. I fear, however, the amount of money and political clout that will decide the future decisions on fracking and pipelines is overwhelming.
But I do remain optimistic. Never underestimate the power of anyone, anywhere, anytime speaking up for what they believe is right. Even singing a song, or posting on a blog...
Thanks setlistthief.
One of the more disturbing angles to this whole saga is how few if any other Canadians are standing with Neil.
Dianna Krall and Blue Rodeo are the exceptions as far as we can tell.
No Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, Randy Bachman, etc. Disappointing.
But not nearly as disappointing as the number of Canadians who are turning their back on the Prodigal Son.
someday smog may turn to stars....
For an old guy he sure seems to be in good health and of sound mind. He looks and sounds great!!
There's still a spark in his eye. It's going to be an awesome year. Sure would like to see that solo show but I'd settle for another round with the Horse!!
