This has to be one of our favorite photos we've seen come out of the Neil Young & Crazy Horse 2012 Alchemy Concert Tour.
The photo by Andre Bergeron is definitely worthy of clicking thru for enlargement and the entire gallery captures the Horse vibe in glorious black & white.
Also, here's another early review of "Psychedelic Pill" by Neil Young and Crazy Horse on TONEAudio MAGAZINE by Bob Gendron:
Neil Young and Crazy Horse’s first new studio album of original material in nine years gives a symbolic middle finger to modern convention.
Its length is sprawling, its surrealist first song occupies more than 27 minutes of time, and its lyrical content casts aspersions on the present and embraces the past. It is the opposite of the digestible sound-byte fare dominant on the very FM radio band that once championed Young. It is a stubborn and curmudgeonly statement in no hurry to go anywhere, and feels nary an obligation to apologize for its imperfections. It is the unmistakable sound of an artist doing things on his own terms and caring not an iota if he doesn’t make everyone happy. It is noisy, raw, loose, off-the-cuff, spontaneous, and blatantly out of step with what’s often perceived as progress. It is alternatively indulgent and lean, nostalgic and contemporary, humorous and serious, unscripted and planned, frustrating and engaging, simple and complex. It is everything one might expect a get-back-into-the-shed Crazy Horse record should be, and then some, and is likely to irritate the listeners that doubt the performance abilities of Young’s longtime garage-rock mates.
Approached on its own terms, Psychedelic Pill is also another master stroke from an icon who, nearing 67 years old, could sleepwalk through the remainder of his career rather than continue to take bold risks and potentially antagonize—even alienate. But Young has never been about playing it straight, and of late, whether on record or in print, he’s rarely seemed more fiery or outspoken.

Wow! Too bad I had to miss Chicago last nite. Saw the DVD version of Journeys tonite though. A remarkable concert by a remarkable artist.Back in 2010 I sat in the 4th row ,a little right in Milwaukee.Anyone who saw Neil on the Le Noise tour should see this!Oh,and thank you Mr.Demme and all involved.Sorry to butt in on the Alchemy Tour News......
The new song sounds like it's about a certain frustrated rock wife's singing career not really taking off. but frankly, I wouldn't call her a singer. More like a person who tries to sing even tho she ain't good at it but no one has the guts to tell her the truth. which explains why no one is taking a chance. But really it must suck to watch your husband sell to huge crowds while you play itsy cafes and such.
Very frank commentary on Neil's part. (They want desperately to love her). And the upright piano has the perfect sound to convey the depressed feeling. I wonder if this one was just written.
A little nod to Kurt Cobain maybe @ 2:05 with the gun to the head?

We haven't heard the new song as of yet so can't really respond to what the song might be about.
ThAt said, "Very frank commentary on Neil's part."
If so, another chapter as we go down the rabbit hole...
@BC- that was our stunned reaction. haunting.

So beautiful!
Re, Pegi bashing...
When we saw them play together @ Farm Aid last month, they seemed to be having a great time together. See

It would seem that Neil's been totally supportive of Pegi's career. What's your problem a husband supporting his wife's efforts to break out of his shadow? What would you do?
look at the photo before you respond, pls
Nice. That's really kind of you, anonymous. I hope it makes you feel good and superior to jealously trash Pegi Young, who happens to be a perfectly serviceable singer whether you like her voice or not.
I also like how you put thoughts in all her friends', and Neil's head. Oh, they must all know the truth of this incredible lie you're spouting, because hey, you are the arbiter of what is and what isn't, for everyone.
I don't think it sucks at all to be a musician and play for people, whether it's in a stadium or an "itsy cafe".
And if you call touring the country playing places like The Catalyst, The Grand Theater, Mayne Stage in Chicago, Jimmy Fallon, Conan O'Brien, Narrow's Center for the Arts, Rockwood Music Hall, et. al. "itsy cafes", then it seems to me that, in addition to your incompetent judgment of what constitutes good singing, you also have a pretty broad idea of what a cafe is.
Oh, of course, probably because you didn't actually bother to google yourself a clue prior to posting.
I'm really, really hoping this tour comes to Europe! Please Please Please!!!!!
As for the setlist, of the 'classic' songs I would be happy to see F*!#in' Up and Love And Only Love retired for a while, but all the others still sound just great!
I love most of the new songs too (not sure yet about Twisted Road or Singer Without A Song - they're okay, but a bit bland and uninspiring).
I'm very thankful that these guys can still perform so brilliantly.
The Flying Scotsman.
that Anon was not me Matt, although Im the one you wrote to on Oct 9 link. I'll start using a better name
Matthew is a fierce defender of Pegi's singing for some unknown reason. We all love Neil, but we don't all love his wife's singing. I saw she was playing recently at a cafe in Maryland that only holds about 50 people, so, yeah, itsy cafe. We all know she wouldn't get talk show gigs or open for Willie if she wasn't Neil's wife. And who's trying to define how someone else feels? I ain't the least jealous, more like slightly nauseous from her voice.
I've got ears as well as you. I've heard 2 of her cds and too much of her terrible backup singing. Yeah, she's a terrible singer. In my opinion. Weak off-key voice, bad lyrics. Have you actually listened to her cds? However much fun she has, she sucks. Why is it called Pegi bashing. It's just an honest comment. For more honest comments, check out Willie's Ticketmaster reviews for when she opened early this year. Hilarious comments about the opening band. So I'm far from being the only one with this opinion. Who's bashing who. And no I had no ulterior motives checking out the Ticketmaster comments. I was deciding on seeing Willie. It seems pretty obvious Neil's laying it all out. My interpretation of a song is as valid as any other. And Thrasher, checking Farm Aid reviews, she was panned by the local paper as pedestrian. Is it a conspiracy? No just honest opinion.
Anon _ you just so don't get it.
There's a sense that Neil's more than just supportive of Pegi's career. We know she uses his musicians and everything else. We know what a manipulative control freak he is. It's great that they love each other so much. But Neil knows she's not a musician. He knows her voice sucks. I guess we just all have big blind spots when it comes to the ones we adore. I see interesting prallels with Citizen Kane's wife Susan. He tried using his massive influence to launch her as a singer but she just did not have the talent. Though no doubt Pegi's hungry for success, unlike Susan.
Neil's been pretty revelatory lately about aspects of their marriage, in my opinion. He's squandered his money, he spent the last 40 years basically high, and you know he didn't do those things without her. Ramada Inn sounds pretty autobiographical given recent statements he's made. He's a fascinating guy as the people on this list know and his marriage is a big part of his life and he's just written an autobiography of sorts. It's got me thinking. It's interesting to me that he has so much talent and surrounds himself with such talented musicians and then there's this wife who is so untalented and he promotes her so much. Very interesting. That's all. I don't know why people get so vicious when Pegi's poor talent comes up. It's just another facet of a fascinating complicated man.
