The Vista and The Muse
August 17, 2010
To say that things have been a bit surreal of late here at Thrasher’s Wheat would be a bit of an understatement. The thought that a music fan's blog meltdown would reach the pages of Rolling Stone magazine is a bit mind-boggling.
For those just tuning in, our previous post on Neil Young's social networking seems to have hit some sort of deep raw nerve in the Neil Young fan community. The essence of this all began around the issues involving Neil’s upcoming benefit gigs for the Gulf of Mexico oil gusher disaster. What transpired in the comments thread next led to an incredible series of cascading of events which spiraled beyond our control leaving us truly stunned and shaken to our core beings.
As the dust began settle over the whole debacle, none other than Neil Young stepped into the ring to release a statement on his official website:
THRASHER'S WHEAT UNDER FIRE
August 17, 2010
It has come to my attention that the negativity on this site has caused the founders to wonder whether it is worth it to continue. They have been moderating and trying to bring fans the news for nearly two decades. This is the most respected site on the net for this type of activity. Let me take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in what I am doing. There is always negativity with any internet endeavour. Now it has perhaps worn you down. It is alright to say goodbye. You have done some folks a great service for a long long time and I appreciate the effort you have shown. Always someone will be negative. Don't dismay. Whether you choose to continue or just hang it up and get on with your life is up to you. Just know that I have appreciated your efforts, tried to stay out of your business and watched you from afar through other's eyes. As for myself, I still see the vista. I hear the muse. I continue.
Godspeed. Thank you. Mahalo.
Neil
We can’t begin to tell you how we reacted as the words on the screen began to slowly sink in. What followed Neil’s posting was an outpouring of love and support from you -- our dear readers here at TW and the Neil Young fan community.
Here’s a letter from Steve P:
Thrasher,
I've just recently posted on your board. I'm the 55 year old NFFL (Neil Fan for Life) from Texas and I must admit, that's a tough crowd you've got on your hands there. I'm not that good with words and I tend to ramble on but I just wanted to say thanks.
I've visited your site for some time even if I haven't been posting. When I saw the twisted road show, I had to post. I STILL think about that show every day and listen to recordings of it constantly. It was brilliance. Pure genius. I am so lucky to have witnessed that. The most emotional and moving performance I've ever seen in my life. Prior to that I took my then 16 year old to Greendale cause that's the last time Neil came around here.
Anyway, there I go rambling. I just wanted to say thanks. Please keep your site up if you can stand to. Don't let the 4% get you down. You perform an invaluable service and us Rusties appreciate you! We're just all getting cranky in our old age I guess, but Neil is on the start of what appears to be a serious roll. It'd be nice to have you around to help us be along for the ride.
Sincerely,
Steve P. (NFFL)
And one after another, similar messages have flowed into our inboxes and been posted to TW. We haven’t replied to all of our messages as of yet, but we have cherished each one and want each of you to know that we can’t begin to tell you how much all of your support has given us the needed strength to carry on.
In order to continue to keep on bloggin' until the power goes out and our battery's dead, we plan to make some adjustments to our approach going forward. One thing that is an obvious result of all of this is that we’ll no longer allow anonymous comments. Previously, we’ve laid out all of our thinking in our Comments Policy so we really don’t have too much more to add on the subject. But we will say this. That TW has always welcomed all. Always tolerated dissent. Always encouraged healthy, respectful, well toned debate. We have never labeled someone with a negative Neil opinion as a basher or troll. Nor have we ever labeled the loyal, unconditional love for Neil types to be sycophants. That said, we will never, ever tolerate unhinged negativity, disrespect and hate on this blog. Period.
So when we quote things like "spare us the cynicism", it’s not that we’re inviting folks to have a flame war with us. What we’re suggesting is that let’s all step back, think about the issue, and try and understand different perspectives, and tolerate differences of opinion. In other words, celebrate the positive in a world of greed, hate and cynicism.
So thanks to everyone for your support. We love you all. The only thing we’ve ever been trying to do here at TW is just spread the love of Neil’s music. To celebrate the music, preserve the legacy, recognize and honor achievements, and most importantly – respect the art and artist. What we all say and do on these internet web communities is a direct reflection of the artist. So all we are saying is, respect the artist by respecting one another. To coexist, if you will.
And amazing things will happen. It's just true.
As for us? Well, we’ve got our own row left to hoe.
We're trying to see the vista. We're trying to hear the muse. And we will continue.
peace and love,
thrasher & thrashette

Thanks again for all the support and we feel the love!
Hi Thrasher,
The only good thing about your site beeing under fire, is that Neil himself found wonderful words for you and your work.
It really makes me sad, that all this happened and I do hope so much, that you will come back again with Thrashers Wheat, because I would miss it so very much.
Love to you and Thrashette
Liza
Thank you Thrasher.
You've given me so much enjoyment over the years. We both had something in common and that was Neil Young music.I would like to let you know how much my son and I appreciated your site over the years.
I just enjoyed immensely reading about Neil and you did it best.
Tim in Louisiana
Hi Thrasher,
I just read the note on Neil's site. I am sad to hear that the Neil bashers out there have become so bad that you are thinking of throwing in the towel on this site. I have visited it for some time now and check it out most days. Know that there are a lot of fans out there that really appreciate your work and everything you do. I hosted a Neil Young hour on Sirius for 2 years and your site was an amazing resource for me.
All that said, I can totally appreciate if you are done with it and wish you well should you decide to shut it down.
Just wanted to let you know how much I have enjoyed your site.
eat a peach ;)
Shawn
My dear Thrasher:
For years now I've gone to your site (and then your blog) for the most complete and most accurate news on anything Neil. You have never disappointed, ever. You've been especially generous in letting people comment on your posts, which as you know, fosters conversation that might not otherwise happen. Unfortunately, some people don't seem to understand that it's your rules, your basement, your game show.
I don't generally read through all the comments on your posts if it's obvious that there's just a lot of pointless arguing. But I didn't realize the extent of the latest until I saw it mentioned by Neil on his site, of all things.
I love what you do. I will miss your site if it goes away. I hope it doesn't. But don't hold onto it for me. Do what you gotta do for you. If we never meet again, thanks. Really.
Ward
Hi Thrasher,
I've visited your site numerous times over the past few years... Hell, I visit it numerous times a day. Your site, along with Rust Radio, guided me through my college years, as well as the the last two years in which I've drifting between major debt and piss-poor jobs as a graduate. Through the good times and the bad of my own (there have been many of each), I've enjoyed reading your opinions, news breaks, and message boards of concert reviews. I was actually quite proud when I posted about the sit and stand dilemma a few years back (under Coby, not my birth name, but the name my friends all call me) that prompted you to make your post with my comments as a catalyst.
I'm writing this Thrasher, because I know you've come under fire lately. And I want you to know while I sometimes dissent from your opinions and undying defense of Mr. Young (which have come under heavy fire), I still support you and your engaging website. I say this Thrasher, because though I don't always agree with your defenses of Neil, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate and respect your opinions... and most importantly... respect that you care (and have the right) to give a damn opinion.
Finally Thrasher, I also wanted to give my support if you do decide to call it quits after the fire you've come under from fans (and your new-found fame from Rolling Stone and Neil's own site and post). You've been an independent voice in a world that's seemingly going to shit, and know that your site has meant the world to all us Rusties. WE'D NEVER TELL YOU TO "EAT A PEACH!"
Sincerely,
Coby
"I'm still living this dream we've had, for me it's not over..."
Thasher,
Thank goodness. Welcome back!
Hi Thrash, I checked the site daily and was really hoping you'd be back. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone?
I'm mellow now.

Dear Thrash,
Welcome back to "home".
grat to see that you have made it a policy for EVERYONE to register their Id..at least we'll know who's genuine or not...If I may take the immortal words from Ohio...
"should've been done long ago!!"
Hoping to start the renaissance with a clean slate and that my integrity fidelity as a lover of this site is intact.

love and only love! we love you thrasher, thrashette and tw. x
Thrasher,
Sorry to see what happened. Glad to see you continuing on. Juts my opinion, but you should feel free to moderate any and all comments and delete any that are offensive, off topic, etc. This is your site, do what you want with it. Those of us that like your site don't want to see all that anyway.
Bill
Thrasher, it's Cutlass Supreme checking in. I mean, WTF? Someone very wise once said, that if you're thinking that someday you'll look back on this and laugh, don't wait - laugh now! I think that's all you can do.
Carry on my man. See you at the show!
All I can say is that I'm glad this site isn't going anywhere. I appreciate the info and the perspectives it provides.
now maybe we can get back to "normal" 'round here...
Thrasher has helped me so much since I discovered the site 5 or 6 years ago.
Whatever perceived 'negativity' the truth is, I love this site - Thrasher is what the internet is for.
Are we free to speak or what? Rejoice that we live in a place that has relative freedoms to speak and be heard.
In sales it is all about all the negatives you have to go through to get to the sale... Each one teaches us more!
Keep up the great work Thrash!!!
Some negative comments are almost as funny as watching my local news channel.
belated P.S.--*I* think SOME cynicism is healthy...but in any case, here's to a troll-free TW...
Thank you, Thrasher and Ette!
Thrash, you are the best! keep up the great work and dont let the haters bring you down. The last presale was awesome and I think a lot of true fans got tickets not all the scalpers. Thanks again for all your hard work. God Bless
Dear Thrashers!
Great news.
I´m not a buddhist. But:
When we try to overcome greed, hatred and ignorance than we can do our thing. Do your thing.
Let them do their thing.

Hi Thrasher
It is great to have you back especially with the pending release of "Le Noise" which promises to be the best NY album in a number of years.
Holden Grumby
Much better!! Glad you are still here Thrasher's Wheat!
Hey Trasher & Thrashette,
I'm glad you are back and made some changes.
Neil was right when he said that your site is THE Neil Young fan site, a worthy successor to HyperRust.
Remember what Neil said on Reactor.
"Deus, dona mihi serenitatem accepere res quae non possum mutare, fortitudinem mutare res quae possum, atque sapientiam differentiam cognoscere."
Stringman & Kaz
You Never Call
The English translation from the Latin is:
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."
HI Welcome Back Trasher I'm so happy Your are back!
Hope for Some News about the new Album soon!
Thrasher:
I usually don't cry when I come here every morning; but when I saw a new post from you, I did cry tears of happiness!
I've been coming here since April 2006 (when I first went on line), and the last few days have been lonely without any new posts.
I was also thrilled to read Neil's post on his website. I kept saying to myself, Yes, I understand; but I hope they come back!!!!
I am also 55 years old, and a NFFL. I discovered Neil the summer of 1966, and I've been having fun ever since!!!!
Many, many, many thanks to you and Thrashette for your labor of love!
With much affection,
Marian M.

Great news that you are continuing Thrasher and Thrashette - TW is the place to come for Neil related news and informed comment. These are very inarrestin' times and we need you! Thanks.
Hey Thrash,
Thanks for coming back to us. Some of us were starting to worry there. And thanks again for a great blog and excellent resource.
Good idea on the nonanonymous thing. I think that will only help.
Good to have you back.
Peace,

Glad our rows are in the same field. Keep on blogging til the power goes out...

Hey Thrasher, don't let em bring you down!
I've been following Thrasher's Wheat for about 5 years now, and still check it religiously multiple times a day.
I wouldn't be such an obsessed Neil Young fan if it wasn't for your site.
Neil is crazy! Its NOT alright to say goodbye! We need you!!!!

Hey Thrasher,
I've emerged from my long status cloaked in anonymity to say that I appreciate the sunshine!
Keep on keeping on, and remember, regarding all this pointless negativity sinking from the weight of it's load:
Don't let it bring you down
It's only castles burning,
Find some Rusties yearning,
And you will come around...

Hey Thrasher and Thrashette,
Been outa the loop for a bit, only to check back here today and read about all this drama. It saddens me that so many people have nothing better to do with their lives than bring other people down. Our world is a scary enough place. Keep up the great work and know that the VAST majority of us support you and all you do.
Welcome back
Oh Happy Day!!! Thank you!!!
This is really good news and what I was hoping for in the last days. Thank you, Thrasher and Thrashette!
Love, Liza
Hope this works...
Been posting for years, just never registered!
Good to have you back Thrasher, you're the man! Thanks for all you do!

O yeah, I'm alright.
Don't see no tears around me
I don't take too much stock

I'm an aerostar, I'm a cutlass supreme..............
When things happen like this, it really forces people to get off the sidelines, and maybe that is a good thing. It is great to see all the love.
I just became a married man about 3 weeks ago. We had a live band at our wedding.
Now I play a little guitar but was planning on letting the band do their thing. Well one of my friends had a different thought. He basically forced the guitarist to had over the keys to his Strat.
They had no idea I could play, but figured he is the groom, so let him have the spotlight.
I asked, "do you know any Neil Young?" They said "Rockin' in the Free World" I said "Let's do it!"
I have never played with a band, or sung into a microphone. This was my wedding and I was going give 'er hell. The solo is pretty sad, but unlike some of the cynics out there at least I tried.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knZ4RDgcEWM
Hopefully the link still works. It's on youtube under Justin & Laura Doucet.
Two out of three wedding speaches mentioned Neil, and one of my new brothers in law mentioned me having a Neil record collection and one of my best virtues. I hope he was just kidding.
Obviously I will never forget the day I married my best friend, but playing with a live band, in front of friends and family, and getting to pretend I was my favorite musician for 5 minutes, was one of the best experiences of my life, aside from getting married of course. :-)
I have never been to any other perfomances that make me feel like a Neil Young show does. It is truly magical.
TW post's can make my day when I pop in for a quick update during the workday. What you provide people is also magical, where else can you find this many Neil fans in one place?
Thank's TW. Keep on Rockin',
JD from MN
Hey Thrasher (and Thrashette)... welcome back! I have been coming here every day since the last thread and am glad you have found the strength to go on. Life as a Neil Young fan would not be the same as I find myself checking for updates almost daily. We are now less than a month away from Le Noise and I haven't been more excited about a studio album of Neil's since I discovered his work as a 19 year old in 2004. Hope to see regular updates on it and much more.
On behalf of Shakey Pictures and the Archives team...
WELCOME BACK!!
You provide a very valuable forum for the community and serve as a gathering place for news and conversation.
I think that you will find the community becomes richer

Dear TW,
I have been watching your website on a daily basis, hoping, praying for your words to continue on. I have followed the twisted road tour for 5 legs, soon to be 7, and I have to say that I agree, Neil is on to something. You have brought tears to my eyes, joy to my heart, and music back to my guitar by posting again. Thank you for continuing, for there isn't another site like yours out there. Trust me, I have looked. These past few weeks have been so lonely. Thank you so much for looking for the vista! See you in the Gulf. Oh, by the way, if you know of any way we can help Neil with assisting with the clean up or handing out food, while he is there please post.
Thanks again, you're a good ole friend!
not quite troll-free...but WAY better than it was...
Phewww, what a relief. Every day I use my computer, I check my email first, and then invariably TW is the first site I check in on from my bookmark list. Thrash and Ette, like a lot of fans of your site, I was getting a little nervous lately when I continued to see no new posts. I've been moving and re-moving the last month and a half, have had only intermittent access to the net, and have in general been up in the air about a lot of things. Consequently, I only had a vague sense of what has been going on post-Tyson debacle, and never knew just how heartsick and exhausted you finally became. I have tried to add my support here and there vis a vis your tug of war with the negativity, but just as I gave up on directly engaging the Neil bashers (because in the end, how do you take mean spiritedness seriously?), I have mostly chosen to ignore your bashers. Shame on me. Your efforts have enriched my life on a daily basis, and caused me to think in ways I wouldn't otherwise have, and not too infrequently caused me some well placed soul searching. Anyways, once again, thanks for your hard work, good heart, and passion. And thanks for still being here- although like Neil saying that he is still going on, it doesn't surprise me that you will too.
I have always used the anonymous method for posting, and then signed my name at the end, because I never was confident I was doing the other way right, me being born pre-ubiquitous computer age, and all. Plus, for some reason I wanted to protect myself somehow by not using my last name. But, if this post makes it through, I'll be doing it the new way from now on, and sign off simply as:
A Friend Of Yours
I guess the point is that Thrasher can now block users who make offensive comments and personal attacks using their blogger ID? It's one thing being off-topic or irreverent, and quite another to be a 'troll' and just be here to upset and hurt people. I have faith that Thrasher will be able to distinguish between the two!
So for example, doc is clearly a Neil Young fan who cares about this site and likes to comment - which I don't mind at all, even if his comments often lack any real contribution to the debate! And whilst I often disagree with Jonny Rocket, he usually argues his points constructively, which is what the comments section is all about I guess. In fact, most people who actually use handles are fine: it's the people who hide behind 'anonymous' who have been the worst, so hopefully the new setup will sort that out.
If not, just block the user from posting, maybe for a limited time, maybe forever?
I'm so pleased to have you back, especially with the new album coming out. I never knew that Neil Young was into terrible puns! Le Noise / Lanois = very tenuous!
Thos.
Thrasher and Thrashette,
Extra special thanks for hanging around. With a new album, Trunk Show, the Archives 2 stuff around the bend, and who knows what else, I was really wondering how I was going to stay informed. It's love (of music) that brought us here, and it's love that we should share.
With lots of love,
fdroadruner
YAY!!!!!Thank you Thash and Thrasherette for all your work keeping your site alive. Many of my Neil fan friends often wonder how I know so much Neil info. before they do(hahahaha). Are there any "rumours" of a film of The Twisted Road Tour? I have been really, really enjoying this tour...Thank you Neil!
Heading to the lake tomorrow with my brother Terry to hang out on his sailboat. Last time we went up, we blew out my speakers listening to Sleeps With Angels. This is the 4th set I've blown. Decided I needed to upgrade since my listening habits aren't likely to change. Tested the new set out with Chrome Dreams II. Can't wait for tomorrow and the 2 hour drive there and back!!
I am so happy today,as we all are. I will be thinking about you tomorrow. So glad we get to continue. Thank you so much Thrash and Thrashette. Hope you are feeling the love flowing your way.
Sandy Horne hey I posted a pic of me in front of Neil's bus at the Ryman. XOXOXO
Thanks for your "kind' words Thos!!
In future I will really make a concerted effort to always be relevant, on topic, anal and above all not inane or innoccuous!! lol
luv to all my fellow wheaties that have supported me through that whole shitfight..
Now lets get on with enjoying the banter, interaction and common passion of why we are all here!!!

dude, man, man, dude!
where's the door?
Awesome BRO! Welcome back Thrasher! You made my WEEK when I saw your e-mail this morning!
Rock on man!
Excellent idea to eliminate anonymous posting. Been saying it for a long time around here. Best way to kill trolls.
Love live the wheat.

Great to get you back!
This site has been very valuable for many reasons. For example I personally enjoyed much Archives Guy's comments when Archives vol. 1 was comin'.
I appreciate a lot your work. This is only place in the internetworld where Neil fans can get correct and up-to date information what is happenin' in the "Neilworld".
Thank you!!
Hallelujah!
I was in danger of actually having to do some work rather than sit at my desk reading Thrashers Wheat!
Good to have you back. As I said previously - this site is too important to too many people to lose.
Thank you.
Hi Thrashette and Thrasher,
I just want to thank you so much for everything you have been doing for us all over these years.
I am very glad you decided to keep on posting in a free world.
ciao from Roma

Welcome back ;-)
@ Thos - talking about Neil`s terrible puns, I remember last year at Hyde Park, London, Neil introduced `Spirit Road` as being `one for all you alcoholics in the audience` - groan!
@ Justin Doucet - your link does work, thanks for sharing it with us. Nice bit of guitar playing - I can see you were having the time of your life! Well done and congrats on your wedding!
Isn`t this just great having Thrasher back! Trunks of memories still to come…..
Jill
Hi Thrasher and Thrashette,
You have no idea how glad I was to see you back! I've actually got tears in my eyes.
Neil's music has been a constant, joyous presence in my life since 1979. Things haven't been going so well for me lately; among other things, my mother died earlier this month. But coming here just now and finding you back and the war over really made me happy. There has always been such a wonderful sense of community here, and I've often wished that I knew some of you guys in person--to being to able to talk to other people who "get" Neil, as Shitty Horse mentioned so eloquently amidst the fire storm of late.
I hope this makes some sense--what I'm basically trying to say, in my own clumsy way, is thank you for all the hard work you do and all the crap you've had to endure. You've created an amazing little community here for all us Rusties.
Love and a BIG hug from (the former) Wendy in Montreal.
Hey guys- heres a link to an early review of Le Noise. The writer compares it to EKTIN, RUST NEVER SLEEPS, Freedom- saying that Neil is once again hit peaking at the end (or the beginning) of the decade.
Enjoy:
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2010/08/neil-young-le-noise-daniel-lanois.html
A fantastic new resource for Neil fanatics - Google has introduced a "realtime" search feature that aggregates news and feeds from Twitter, etc. and various news sources and updates them in real time. Best of all, you can set up an email alert that pushes the items to your email box as they pop up. In the first day I received two news articles with reviews from a private listening party for "Le Noise" (a classic, they say) and an excellent review of the Greendale graphic novel, along with a whole bunch of random twitter noise. This is still at the experimental stage, but, at this writing, you can get to the site by copying the following URL into your browser. Once you're there, type Neil Young into the search box and scroll down to the bottom of the results page to set up the email alert.
http://www.google.com/realtime?esrch=RealtimeLaunch::Experiment
JD, that was GREAT!! Loved watching your bride getting into it. Thanks for sharing with us. Keep on Rockin in the Free World!!
Sandy
Thraser and Thrashette,
I am so happy to see you back! I had been checking every day but then just figured you were taking a much needed break. I couldn't imagine after Neil himself called you out and wrote to you directly and from the heart, that you could walk away. It blew me away seeing you mentioned in Rolling Stone as well. Congrats!!! It was well deserved.
Then as I'm reading, right there under Neil's article, you posted my direct email to you. I am honored. I did a double take! I'll probably never get to shake Neil's hand although I'm hopeful that someday I can, but seeing my letter posted on the best Neil Young fan website in the world, well that was almost as good! Thank God you're back. We need you!!
Twisted Road has ushered in a special era for us Rusties. A magical era. It's a relief to know that you'll be along for the ride. Walk with Me. Shine me a light! And Thanks again for all you do. We just love you, we just love you.
Steve P. NFFL
Check this out. I get goosebumps just thinking about the new record - http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2010/08/neil-young-le-noise-daniel-lanois.html
Thrasher, if I may use a popular quote from the 70s...don't let the turkeys get you down... :) THANKS for all you do.
Thrasher hopefully your job will be a bit more peacefull now i hope . You have the best Neil fan site on the net and . Keep up the good work from this old hippie who actually bought those springfield albums as they came out and those early Neil Albums still have my records . As for the trolls think of them this way and just move past them leave them behind you and the Mrs.
They were lost in rock formations
Or became park bench mutations
On the sidewalks
and in the stations
They were waiting, waiting.
So I got bored and left them there,
They were just deadweight to me
Better down the road
without that load
Here to a troll free zone .

Thrash if you feel the need to delete/censor/edit posts then by all means go ahead, I don't always agree with your opinion but this is YOUR site. Don't let the rubbish get to you. Getting rid of the annon log in will probably do the trick for the most part anyways.
Anyways hope you continue the site; however, If it is too much of a burden then walk away from it for a while, take a long break. Us Rusties will survive. You have to put yourselves first.
Thanks for all the years of service you have given me.

"Ooh baby,
that's hard to change
I can't tell them
how to feel.
Some get stoned,
some get strange,
But sooner or later
it all gets real.
Walk on, walk on,
Walk on, walk on."
Very glad to have you back! Thanks Archives Guy (I assume it was you) for being the eyes for Neil to "watch from afar".
Great to see you back, Thrasher! As a great man said, "keep on bloggin'!

Expecting To Fly
Good to see you back again.
Thrasher
This "is" a window into "Neil Young and company" that you can't get anywhere else.
There would be a void if "Thrashers Wheat" was extinct.
RUST NEVER SLEEPS
Thrasher, keep on blogin.
I'm so happy you're back I called you Thraser! Welcome back THRASHER!! What Dug said and thanks Pinto/Flounder for the google alert tip.
Thanks again for all you do. Looks like blocking anonymous posts is going to work out real good. It feels like family around here. Good to see Archives Guy, Doc, Shitty, fellow 55 year old NFFL Marian M.,sandyhorne and everyone else. Neil fans from all over the world. How cool is that?
Shitty, I saw you beat me to the LA Times link. Can't wait for 'Le Noise'. My record player is back out in the garage but I might have to buy the vinyl just to hang it on the wall. That is one bad ass picture on the cover.

Went sailing today with my sister Sandy (horne). We love your site and are so glad you are back in business, allowing us a place to call home.
Again, I just want to say much this site means to me, as a Neil Young fan. Given the nature of the man, his music and career there is always much to discuss. The same intensity and mystifying quality that surrounds the man inevitability accompanies his songs, his words and career choices, resulting in debate among his fans and followers. There are always questions surrounding genius, it is the nature of the beast. Try as we do, it really should never be attempted to dissect artists like Neil because in doing so we set ourselves up to be confounded later on and, in a way, attempts to box Neil into some ridged categorization that is going to be false. Still, we try to pick him apart and under each layer lies another mystery and more confusion. The result is perplexity and disinformation. Given these road blocks, we continue to attempt to understand, sometimes to even Neil's chagrin, who doesn’t want to be analyzed and understood because not even he understands it, and does not want to be held responsible for his contradictions and what sometimes appear to be flights of fancy, simply because he has no choice. Neil knows full well what he is; a seeker in the dark, blindly following his master, waiting for a spark of light to see the way so he can do the muse's bidding. This is perhaps the secret to Neil's continued success and vitality and is his strongest and most fascinating asset. This is, perhaps, part of what causes us to gravitate toward his music.
The fact is we do seek to understand, not just Neil Young, but the music, the muse, the driving force behind creativity, the spirit of Rock N' Roll, writing, and its relationship to our sometimes cynical world. What choice do we have but to discuss what we recognize as magic? Thrasher's Wheat provides a forum that truly is necessary for us. I think Thrasher understands this and has taken up the mantel to lead us into discussion, to let us ask our questions, express our anger, joy, confusion and gratitude. Let’s not kid ourselves though; separating the wheat from the chaff is no easy task. Neil and his people know this, as they've seen it first hand and used it. Neil's message to Thrasher was a well deserved statement of gratitude and understanding. By saying "it is alright to say goodbye" Neil was letting Thrasher know he understands because he's been dealing with this for 40 years or so. And even though Thrashers Wheat as been used as an indirect conduit to Neil, he didn’t want Thrasher to feel obligated to continue. I am thrilled and thankful he is though.
Thrasher, as a fan seeking to understand the not understandable, all I can say is thanks for giving us place to piss in the wind and never being afraid to tell us when we are.

This is great, Thrasher. I know it's been a bumpy ride, and I am proud of you and Thrashette for keeping it between the ditches. (Nobody loves road analogies more than Neil Young!)
Been traveling way too much myself, and have no spare cash left, but as soon as I recover from the NYAS Convention next month and then IRF in October, I will be making another donation to help defray your bandwidth costs (probably in December but don't hold your breath).
Thanks again for your dedication to the site, to us fans, and of course, to the art and the artist...
Neil Young!
Peace and love,
HarryO
Well Thrasher and Thashette I am rather proud of all the Neil Young fans here giving voice to their appreciation and love for what you do,and of course for Neil.
A great, great, great etc artist deserves a great site, which you have in spades.I am a Rustie as well, and your site compliments Rust beautifully.
I am also pleased to see informed and witty contributions from AG from time to time - I think it shows that Neil and his crew care on some level about his most rabid (!) fans.
Keep on keepin' on Thrasher - we love you!
Yeah!!!
Hard to imagine life without "The Wheat" in the morning.
Thanks and welcome back!!
Awesome Thrash, I can pretty much say I grew up with your site, being that I first started logging on in '98 when I was 16. Stoked that you aren't going away just yet.
Thanks for continuing! For me here over in Norway a morning without Neil Young News / Thrashers Wheat is like a morning without coffee. My biggest inspiration is Neil Young, and my daily fuel is his music and the news about him and his music that you bring me. You´re the best, keep on!
An Internet World without TW is something I don't want to even imagine. Keep on spreading the love & all things Neil.
May Neil and TW endure and shine.
Welcome back!
Shitty Horse, every one of your points is spot on. Well done.
A Friend Of Yours
I would have understood your decision either way, but I'm glad you're still here. You're doing a great, very appreciated job!
Thanks

You must be hurting inside to attempt spreading the negativity among those pure of heart.
Where was I when all of this was going down? My kids were 6 & 9 then. I usually work more than full time. I do recall seeing Neil's web site message to Thrashers. I am so impressed by your New Year's Day 2018 collage of consciousness, an awakening under the microscope, a psychedelic pill which reveals the truth beneath the facade. Your blog is my absolute favorite thing on the internet. Neil is my most favorite musician, grunge God, prophet of sorts, Environmental warrior extraordinaire. As Oil Pipelines endanger the water, and so little makes sense, it is illuminating to pull the veil aside and see the ugly truth. Earth is being trashed and Corporations won't stop it. A leader would be needed to halt this rush to extinction. And we have the Devil in the White House. I voted for Obama twice before witnessing is indifference to the Native Water Protectors at Standing Rock. Trump policy = Obama policy in this arena. That is horrible conclusion we are left with. Obama did it with a smile, but his drone warfare in 7 counties reveals much. He was just Georg Bush Lite. And the numbers of homeless multiply every day as the US, the richest country in the world, turns its head away from the people in need, of food, shelter, protection. Where is our compassion? Right here on this blog, for one! Keep on bloggin'! Alan in Seattle
