Willie Nelson Tribute for Gershwin Prize Concert w/ Neil Young, Paul Simon + Others

Last night, we had the honor and privilege of attending the Library of Congress' celebration of Willie Nelson’s Gershwin Prize for Popular Song tribute concert at the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Constitution Hall in Washington, DC.

The line-up included Rosanne Cash, Alison Krauss, Jamey Johnson and the Mavericks’ Raul Malo, Edie Brickell, Cyndi Lauper, Leon Bridges, Lukas and Micah Nelson and Promise of the Real, as well as Paul Simon and Neil Young.

Neil Young and Promise of the Real opened the evening with a 2 song set: "Whiskey River" and "Stay a Little Longer."

Paul Simon was actually the first person presented the honor, with Willie becoming the eighth to join the esteemed ranks. According to the Library of Congress, when selecting a recipient of the Gershwin Prize, Librarian of Congress James Billington "consulted leading members of the music and entertainment communities, as well as curators from the Library’s Music Division, American Folklife Center and Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division."

Even though he recently postponed dates on his Django and Jimmie Tour with Merle Haggard because of an unnamed health concern, Willie seemed to be in fine form.

Willie made a few brief remarks thanking the Library of Congress' for the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, as dignitaries and members of Congress, such as Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer, looked on.

Willie Nelson is first country musician to receive the Gershwin Prize.

The prestigious award honors a living performer and/or composer whose contributions to popular music exemplify the standard of excellence associated with George and Ira Gershwin.

Willie Nelson performed with his sons Lukas and Micah Nelson, as well.

The concert ended with all performers on "On The Road Again".

The show will air nationwide on PBS on Friday, January 15 at 9 p.m. ET.

Thanks everybody for liking Willie Nelson for Nobel Peace Prize page on Facebook!

The Force Awakens | Southwest Journal

Rich Mattson and his gang of love terrorists at the Turf Club in St. Paul last Thursday night. Photo by Joe Fahey

The force awakens - Southwest Journal
November 16, 2015
By: Jim Walsh

Thursday night in St. Paul, Minn., sandwiched between suicide bombings in Beirut and Paris, Rich Mattson and a gang of local love terrorists took to the Turf Club stage to celebrate Neil Young’s 70th birthday.

The good communal vibe climaxed around midnight in front of a packed house of about 300 zealots, as Mattson and a frontline co-commandeered by Run Westy Run/Iffy/Jayhawks guitar man Kraig Johnson ignited like an uber-urgent reincarnation of Young’s raggedly glorious band Crazy Horse, especially when howling, as all concerned did with real gusto, the Young-penned manifesto of, “Hey hey my my/Rock and roll will never die.”

At that moment I was standing in front of the band on the Turf’s storied dance floor, the very same spot I stood on when Ike Reilly and his band came to lift spirits and help make sense of the senseless just hours after the attacks on New York and Washington, D.C. in September 2001. Sharing the microphone like a couple of flannel-clad Rolling Stones, Mattson and Johnson grinned hard at one another as they sang the lyric, which could’ve been heard as a quaint fist-pumper from a time long gone, but that was before hundreds of rock fans attending an Eagles of Death Metal concert at the Bataclan Concert Hall in Paris were gunned down in the name of Allah.

In the ISIS missive that claimed responsibility for the attacks the next day, the terrorists essentially declared war on rock ‘n’ roll, referring to the concert hall as a place where “apostates” had gathered in a “profligate prostitution party” (rock concert) in Paris, that den of inequity targeted for its history of  “obscenity and perversion.” Clearly, rock ‘n’ roll and all the mind- and soul-blowing freedom it has stood for is at the top of the hit list for ISIS, which runs sex slave camps, enforces sexual repression disguised as religious purity, and fancies its soldiers as chosen enforcers of the apocalypse.

Probably because of extremism like that, and an overall sanctimonious trickle-down effect from those who know The Right Way or The Only Way, the closest thing I’ve ever had to religion in my lifetime has been rock ‘n’ roll. It’s a huge sect, made up of countless antiestablishmentarians who were raised on sounds that make us feel alive, joyful, angry, sad, rebellious and inspired in a way I believe our creator intended us all to feel as often as possible amidst life’s natural sorrows. As such, we seek out experiences that affirm the good things in life, all that love and infinite infinity and wild abandon best achieved via the ritual of gathering together around an altar of rock and the sacraments of kick drums in your chest and Marshall stacks spitting aural flames of salvation, redemption, catharsis.

Music lovers who go to concerts like Eagles of Death Metal find their own people and customs, and for the most part I’ve always found rock ‘n’ rollers to be the sort of thoughtful non-joiners who would, if you suggested joining a stupid cause or believing in a hate-spreading god or killing another person in the name of anything, would look at you sideways and say, “Nah. That’s a really stupid idea, you bleeping piece of sheep. I’m gonna go listen to some records and expand my mind and heart.”

They think for themselves, in other words, and they naturally find others who do the same. In the wake of Friday’s attacks in Paris, NPR rock critic Ann Powers created the hashtag #livemusicheals and asked her followers to cite their all-time favorite concert experiences as a way to combat Friday night’s numbing newsfeed. Several of my music biz friends focused their grief on the killing of Eagles of Death Metal merchandise manager Nick Anderson, and Ed Ackerson, leader of Minneapolis rockers BNLX and Polara, whose business as head of the Susstones Records label and Flowers recording studio often brings him and his wife Ashley to Europe on business, had this to say in a Facebook post:

“Ashley and I are in Paris a couple times a year, and of course every time we’re there we go out and see rock shows. Paris doesn’t have as many indie rock fans proportionally as a US or UK city of the same size, but the people who are into it are REALLY into it, totally committed. I’m devastated about any and all victims of the attacks in the city today. But the events at Bataclan have left me stricken with horror and grief. This was an attack on our own tribe, people who listen to the same sounds, wear the same clothes, are moved by the same beat and noise as us. I think about the people I stood next to at shows last April. Were any of them at Bataclan tonight? Very likely yes. I don’t know what to say, except this feels very very close, despite the 4000 miles distance.”

A war on rock ‘n’ roll? My money is on the likes of Ackerson, Mattson, Reilly, the Clash, Gramma’s Boyfriend, Doomtree, the Ramones, Bad Bad Hats, Joan Jett, Public Enemy, Atmosphere, Billy Bragg, Bruce Springsteen, Sleater-Kinney, Parliament-Funkadelic, Soul Asylum, the Monkees, and Madonna, arguably the West’s most adored love-and-sex goddess and therefore certainly the bain of ISIS’s existence, who said at her Saturday night concert in Stockholm: “That is exactly what these people want us to do. They want to shut us up. They want to silence us. And we won’t let them. Because there is power in unity, and I do believe that as much chaos and pain and senseless violence and terrorism that occurs around this world, not just in Paris, there is much goodness in this world. We are here to prove it. Only love will change the world, but it’s very hard to love unconditionally, and it’s very hard to love that which we do not understand, or that which is different than we are, but we have to, or this will go on and on and on forever.”

In other words, as always, to quote those incendiary infidels the Beatles, “Love is the answer.” And as the military jingoism and xenophobia ramps up here and abroad, I take solace and guidance from “Rent” author Jonathan Larson, who wrote, “The opposite of war isn’t peace, it’s creation.” That’s for sure, and I know from experience that that helpless feeling deep in our guts can be mitigated by setting our intentions every day to make something beautiful and create our own weather and reality.

To that end, just in time, next month sees the release of the new Star Wars film,“The Force Awakens,” in which Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Hans Solo do battle once again with The Dark Side. The Force, of course, is the all-powerful life-love-creation energy that every religion known to humankind has recognized as an allegory for their god, and as the religious divides between us become more pronounced and violent, I’m left with the hope that merely having a pop-culture meme out there and being repeated over and over in the collective consciousness — “the force awakens ” — will kick-start a new world.

I know, I know, I know. But… what if…?

What if all the people who eschew fundamentalism but who believe fervently in rock ‘n’ roll and Star Wars marshal their good freaky energy naturally and obliterate these new Dark Ages with an unprecedented volcanic eruption of music, art, smarts, love, and kindness? What if the terrorists are bombarded by love, love, love, love and light and more love, love, love, love and light and — voila! — we achieve peace in our time, although anyone with half a brain or historical perspective knows that human beings being human beings, worldwide peace is but a figment of utopian imaginations.

Or is it? Me, I’m hitching my wagon to the very real hope and sustenance that can be found in guitars and stars. The haters can have their AK-47s and poverty of the soul; I’ll be over here, imagining all the people living life in peace and you may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one. May the Force be with you.

REVIEW: Neil Young - Bluenote Café | PopMatters

Neil Young latest Performance Series release from the Neil Young Archives is Bluenote Café - which was released last week. The album collects various performances captured during Neil's 1988 tour.

From PopMatters by Chris Gerard:
Those who casually dismiss Neil Young’s ‘80s work would be well-advised to give it another close look.

Young wasn’t flailing about from style to style because he was desperately trying to fit into a new era and he was unsure how to do it. He was simply doing what he always does—whatever feels right to him at the time. One listen to A Treasure will reveal that far from being an intentional thorn in David Geffen’s side, Young was absolutely sincere and completely all-in to his “country” period, and the same is true with the tight blues-rock of Bluenote Café. Yeah, Young may have had trouble translating the sounds in his head into compelling studio albums during this period (a problem that would end once and for all at the end of the decade with Freedom), but in his live performances he was giving it all that he had and was totally invested in this music—it was never a lark. The same is true today. His most recent studio albums, Storytone and The Monsanto Years have been underwhelming to say the least, but his current tour is getting nothing but raves.

Neil Young isn’t afraid to try and fail—that’s the secret to his success and longevity.

He has earned the stature to do that in a fickle industry, and he’s still out there, nearly 50 years since his first album with Buffalo Springfield, doing exactly what he wants to do. We are all fortunate that he is, but we’re also fortunate that in the past decade he’s finally loosened the locks on his musical vault and has been unleashing one superb archival release after another, each covering another aspect of his vast musical legacy. Bluenote Café is essential Neil Young, and further evidence that Young’s ‘80s work has more value than many fans and critics would expect or admit.

Fear Not! We'll Always Have Paris. Forever.

As we said last night, Paris holds a special place in our hearts here at Thrasher's Wheat.

And -- no matter what -- We'll Always Have Paris. All of us. Forever. No one can take Paris away from any of us. But we are not "Charlie" -- never were -- because we are all Parisians as we suffer for our brothers and sisters.

A bit more on the latest "newz" from Paris, below. (As always, this isn't as bad as it looks. It's not good, but it is definitely not something to get paralysed in fear over, for sure.)

But first, our fond memories of Paris in the summer of 2013. It was a very hot summer night in Paris. Literally. Temperatures on the rail were as hot as the night of transcendent music.

Neil Young Fans - In The Line

So while out on the road in the summer of 2013 following the Neil Young and Crazy Horse Europe Concert Tour, we came across quite a range of Neil Young fans from around the world.

And we heard lots of Neil stories.

But here's a Neil story that really stuck with us and gives us lots of hope.

Here's the scene. Paris in the hours and minutes leading up to the night's Neil Young and Crazy Horse concert. We were hanging out on the floor of the venue, sitting amongst a big mix of Neil fans from around the city, country and world. Young & old and everything in between.

We found ourselves sitting amongst a group of young-ish fans in their teens and early 20's. We tried to strike up a conversation but none of the group spoke English. We tried to make a little small talk with what language we had in common to pass the time. Eventually a mutual friend joined the group and we asked them to translate for us.

"Is this your 1st Neil concert?" Yes, they all nodded.

"Have you heard the latest Neil CD?" No, they all nodded.

"Any favorite Neil Young songs?" No, they all shrugged.

"Anyone have any Neil music on your phones or iPods?" No, they all nodded.

Hmmm. "OK, so let us get this straight. You're not familiar with Neil's music, right? And his English lyrics aren't widely understood by your generation here in France?

So why are you here?"

Our new translator friend condenses the responses as so: "We are here because we've heard that Neil Young's music is important. And we have come tonight to find out why."

A Neil Young concert can be a gathering of the vibes. Those who get Neil. Those who see the vista and hear the muse. Those without fear in their minds and love in their hearts. Literally tears of joy to find the answer blowin' in the wind.

Neil Young
"Rockin in the free world while the answer is blowin' in the wind."

Neil Young & Crazy Horse, live in Paris on June 6, 2013, with encore of song "Rockin' In The Free World".

So hot that Neil played the end of the concert with an iced towel around his neck before tossing into audience in an attempt to cool things down.

For us -- Paris was the best Alchemy show we've seen thus far. That includes the 2012 dates, as well.

The crowd was on fire singing, dancing and hanging on every lyric and note.

The "Rockin in the Free World" finale was a total surprise and blowout and the Paris crowd loved it.

For those who attended the Paris concert of Neil Young & Crazy Horse this past weekend, you know it was one their hottest gigs ever -- literally and figuratively.

Stage temperatures were approaching over 90 degrees Fahrenheit and Crazy Horse was on fire.

To begin to describe the exhilaration in the moments after the lights came up as all the rusties raced to the center rail to share stories, we collided with all of our new and old rustie friends. For us -- with a Ralph Molina's drumstick in one hand and a guitar pic played by Neil Young on Ol Black in our pocket -- our vibrational energy was off the charts into stratospheric levels of euphoria.

But then something truly magically happened.

Up comes our newest Neil rusty friend Jacqueline clutching the cherished iced towel that Neil had tossed into the crowd. Still cool and wet, rusties gathered to touch, feel and cool down collectively. And then we all hugged.

Never before has our body and soul ever experienced so much vibrational love energy. It flowed. It exploded. it raced thru our veins with a shot to the heart.

It was as if the energy of Ralph's drumming, Billy's pounding bass, Poncho's chunky chords and Neil's love hit us all like a lightening bolt from the heaven's above. A magic jolt ... if you will.

It was truly a love and only love moment.

Tomorrow is a long long time if you're a memory
Trying to find peace of mind
Spirit come back to me,
Give me strength and set me free
Let me hear the magic in my heart.

Past, Present & Future
The Alchemy Boys in all of their ragged glory splendor

Can you feel the magic in our hearts?

As we said last night, Paris holds a special place in our hearts here at Thrasher's Wheat.

It was a mistake to pull the plug on the global "LIVE EARTH" broadcast last night. The show must go on. That is what the victims would have wanted. Stopping the show is what the T's wanted to do. So score another ONE for the T's again.

Every time you react in fear, terrorism wins. The only way to defeat fear (aka "terrorism") is with fearlessness.

BUT.

At this point, all of the "newz" seems to be 2nd or 3rd hand reports. More than 24 hours later, where is the surveillance footage from Paris cameras that would have caught all of these acts? Where are the eyewitnesses and hostages who actually saw something? Why was the media reporting on the number of terrorists killed before any official or police statement? Why are the passports of suicide bombers intact and pristine? Kind of like the 911 hijacker "magic passport".

Odd, indeed.

Maybe just "synthetic terrorism"?

(Don't take our word for it. Do some independent, non-mainstream media research. You will be shocked by the truth but it will make you stronger.)

In fact, this Paris event was all but predicted back in January of this year on The Economist Magazine cover.

It is a huge disappointment that the French intelligence was unable to stop what seemed to be an open secret, widely chattered about. Many were issuing explicit November warnings, but alas to no avail. You don't suppose French authorities allowed this event to proceed for ulterior motives, do you? Who would ever believe anything so nefarious?

Just as 911 precipitated the Patriot Act in the USA, these events will be used to usher in a French equivalent of Patriot Act. Don't fall for it France. This is a ruse to be used to take away your freedoms. Trust us when we say this from experience.

This is the price of freedom. These T's are simply cowards and have nothing. Their desperation is quite evident that we're in the end game now. This is no time to fear.

Actually, there is nothing to fear. It's all an illusion.

We are not "Charlie" -- never were -- because we are all Parisians.

And so begins the bombing as French war planes attack the ISIS "capital" of Raqqa in retaliation. That didn't take long.

"Whosoever shall give up his liberty for a temporary security deserves neither liberty nor safety."

"Soldiers! don’t give yourselves to brutes - men who despise you - enslave you - who regiment your lives - tell you what to do - what to think and what to feel! Who drill you - diet you - treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder. Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men - machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines! You are not cattle! You are men! You have the love of humanity in your hearts! You don’t hate! Only the unloved hate - the unloved and the unnatural!
Soldiers! Don’t fight for slavery! Fight for liberty!"

And -- no matter what -- We'll Always Have Paris. All of us. Forever. No one can take Paris away from any of us.

Bad News Has Come To Town: Mon$anto is literally being burned to the ground

France is Not Happy with Mon$anto Corporation

The news for the Mon$anto Corporation continues to go from bad to worse and worse.

Looks like in France, Mon$anto is literally being burned to the ground.

From Arson Suspected In Massive Fire At Monsanto Research Facility | Natural Blaze by John Vibes:

Earlier this week, a Monsanto research facility in France was burned to the ground. Monsanto and investigators suspect an arsonist was responsible for the blaze.

Monsanto representative Jakob Witten told Reuters that investigators “strongly suspect it was a crime as no electrical or other sources were found.” He added that “No Monsanto sites in Europe have so far been the victim of fires of criminal origin, this is unprecedented violence.”

The fire had multiple points of origin, meaning it is unlikely the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction or other natural causes. Investigators also noticed a strong smell of gasoline in different areas of the site.

France announced in June that it was banning sales of Roundup, Monsanto’s flagship herbicide, amid public pressure and the World Health Organization’s announcement that the product is probably carcinogenic. Further, last month the country announced it was strengthening its ban on genetically modified crops. Monsanto is one of the most hated corporations on the planet and faces particularly strong resistance in France. If the fire is confirmed to have been arson, it is possible this vociferous opposition might have been a motivating factor.

Nevertheless, the recent fire is merely the tip of the iceberg with regard to Monsanto’s recent problems.

The company recently moved to close three different research facilities to save money in the face of declining profits. As Reuters reported last week, Monsanto research centers in Middleton, Wisconsin, Mystic, Connecticut, and Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, will soon be closed to cut costs.

More bad news for Monsanto.

The darling of "Science Fundamentalism" Neil Degrasse Tyson has been exposed as a mere Monsanto shill and hack.

In the video above, Neil Degrasse Tyson is exposed propagating false GMO myths.

From Agenda 2030: Bankrupting the Third World, One Country at a Time | Stateless Homesteading:
The destiny of Africa has, for centuries, been usurped by conquerors; whether it be the East India Company’s mercantile slave trade, the imperialistic campaigns of Cecil John Rhodes, or the IMF’s economic hitmen of today, the eugenic aims of the Anglo-American Establishment towards the people of Africa (and the vast natural resources they sit upon) has continued unabated for hundreds of years.

Agenda 2030 is set to take the subjugation of Africa to previously unimagined heights, with the rest of the Third World to follow shortly thereafter.

Earlier this year, Ghana was the target of a new set of draconian G7 regulations set to outlaw seed sharing. Known colloquially as the “Monsanto Law,” the bill is endemic of Agenda 21’s planned control of land use and agriculture.

In addition to GMOs, the Anglo-American Establishment has foist upon Ghana another lab-created eugenic tool: Vaccines “coded for race.” This issue, recently brought to the House floor by Rep. Bill Posey of Florida, was once was constrained to the realm of science fiction; this is no longer the case, as the use of vaccines as race-specific bioweapons has now been enumerated upon by Congressmen and CDC whistleblowers alike.
From Lane County, Oregon Tries to Kick Out Monsanto with GM Ban | NaturalSociety by Christina Sarich:

Jackson County, Oregon was already successful in banning genetically modified foods (known as GMOs) even though Big Ag tried to fight the democratic vote. Now another Oregon County is following suit.

Residents of Lane County have begun work collecting signatures to get a GMO crop cultivation ban onto the May 2016 ballot. They need 14,500 signatures by December 31st in order for it to come up for a vote among Lane citizens. Like all grassroots movements, they need help.

Recently, in Jackson County, A federal judge rejected a claim by farmers that the ordinance violated their “right to farm” under state law. Their claim that they should get $4.2 million in compensation from the county is still pending, however, and county officials agreed not to enforce the GMO ban until it’s resolved.

You can bet that Monsanto’s lawyers have already sniffed out this appeal, and will do anything to stop it. After all, one county has already been successful giving them the boot, and biotech can’t allow a precedent to be built upon. If that were to happen, the whole state, and then the entire nation, would soon be GM-free county-by-county if need be.

Big Ag and Biotech have already tried to supersede state’s rights to label or ban GMOs. You can be certain that if that law passes with the DARK act, then counties will be stripped of that right as well – even though it is entirely unconstitutional.

You can help Lane County, Oregon, to ban GMO crop cultivation and protect the local non-GMO and organic food system, here: https://localfoodrights.nationbuilder.com/donate

From Monsanto’s secret studies reveal glyphosate link to cancer | GM Watch:
Monsanto has known for almost four decades that glyphosate causes cancer, according to a new paper by researchers Anthony Samsel and Stephanie Seneff.

Samsel is the first independent researcher to examine Monsanto’s secret toxicology studies on glyphosate. He obtained the studies, which have been denied to other inquirers, via a request to his senator. With his co-researcher Dr Stephanie Seneff of MIT, he reviewed Monsanto’s data.
Samsel and Seneff concluded that “significant evidence of tumours was found during these investigations”.

However, they add, “to create doubt and obscure the statistical significance of inconvenient findings, which may have prevented product registration”, Monsanto introduced irrelevant historical control data from other experiments. This is data from the control animals in other unrelated experiments, which may have been carried out under widely differing conditions.

This practice had the effect of creating experimental noise which cancelled out the statistically significant findings of increased tumours in any one experiment.

In various cancer experiments, Samsel and Seneff found, Monsanto introduced spurious data from 3, 5, 7 and even 11 unrelated study controls to effectively eliminate results, as needed.
ow does glyphosate induce cancer?

Samsel and Seneff conclude their new paper by explaining biological mechanisms through which glyphosate could induce cancer. These include glyphosate’s ability to bind (chelate) manganese, reducing its bioavailability, which could contribute to oxidative damage to cells. This in turn could lead to cancer.
From RT: $10mn dare: MIT grad challenges Monsanto over ‘nonexistent GMO safety standards’:
One of the world’s largest GMO producers has been challenged by an MIT graduate who claims there are absolutely no GMO safety assessment standards. He earlier alleged that GMO-engineered plants accumulate high levels of formaldehyde.

Livingston (New Jersey) High School Hall of Fame member, Dr. V A Shiva Ayyadurai threw down the gauntlet to the Monsanto Company, claiming it would be next to impossible for the agro-giant to disprove his claim that safety assessment standards for genetically-modified organisms (GMO) are nonexistent.

“If Monsanto can disprove the fact that there are no safety assessment standards for GMOs, the conclusion of our fourth paper, then I will give them my $10 million building,” Ayyadurai, also a Massachusetts Institute of Technology graduate, told Patch.

Ayyadurai’s argument is based on his alleged discovery that GMO plants accumulate high levels of formaldehyde, a finding Ayyadurai asserted in an article published back in July in an expert opinion for the Agricultural Sciences trade journal.

“This is not a pro- or anti-GMO question,” Ayyadurai wrote in his abstract. “But [rather], are we following the scientific method to ensure the safety of our food supply? Right now, the answer is no. But we need to, and we can if we engage in open, transparent and collaborative scientific discourse, based on a systems approach.”

Formaldehyde is a known class-one carcinogen,” Dr. Ray Seidler, a former EPA senior scientist, said in a statement on Ayyadurai’s study. “Its elevated presence in soybeans caused by a common genetic engineering event is alarming and deserves immediate attention and action from the FDA and the Obama administration.”

An estimated 94 percent of US-grown soybeans are genetically engineered.
Don't believe it? Well the brain dead corporate media and their clueless journalist hacks will not be printing the truth, we can guarantee you that.

From Washington Post columnist admits to spreading GMO propaganda while collecting 'plenty' of money from biotech front groups:
Another week brings another scandal involving Monsanto paying off “journalists” who work in the mainstream media.

This time, it’s a Washington Post journalist named Tamar Haspel who admits to accepting “plenty” of money from biotech companies while spewing pro-Monsanto propaganda in WashPost articles.
Then again, we already knew WashPost was a Monsanto propaganda rag. Its articles often appear to have been ghost written by Monsanto, then slapped into publication with a WashPost editor’s name on top.
So who's gonna stand up?

What do we want?
Seed Justice!
When do we want it?
NOW!!!

We know who's gonna stand up!

And, Mon$anto -- in case you were wondering -- no, we're not quite ready to make nice just yet. (And, please, is that the best you guys can do?)

In anticipation of Neil Young's big birthday this week, we are in full celebration mode here at TW.

First, we have an exclusive interview with author Harvey Kubernik on his new book "Neil Young - Heart of Gold" coming up. The interview will be streamed on Neil's birthday, this Thursday, November 12 at 11:12 A.M. and again at 11:12 P.M. on WBKM.org. Come and celebrate Neil Young turning 70 on 11-12, along with WBKM & Tony's birthdays , as well.

Los Angeles native Harvey Kubernik has been an active music journalist for over 40 years and the author of 6 books, including This Is Rebel Music (2002) and Hollywood Shack Job: Rock Music In Film and on Your Screen (2004) published by the University of New Mexico Press. In 2009 Kubernik wrote the critically acclaimed Canyon of Dreams: The Magic and the Music of Laurel Canyon, published by Sterling. It was published in a paperback edition in 2012.

In the interview we discuss how the book project came about, Harvey's research with folks like Graham Nash and Rustie Sharry Wilson, and what Harvey learned about Neil that he did not already know, along with some fascinating anecdotes.

In the spirit of love and all that is good and real about Neil Young and their rustie fans, we're pleased to be able to offer a few free copies of the new book "Neil Young: Heart of Gold" by Harvey Kubernik to a lucky Thrasher's Wheat reader.
