Elon Musk Names 1st Mars Colony Ship 'Heart of Gold'

Per Space.com, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk says he'd like to name the first Mars colony ship "Heart of Gold".

 

The name 'Heart of Gold' pays tribute the space ship in Douglas Adams' "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" books. So sorry Neil Young fans of the song "Heart of Gold".

Speaking at the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Guadalajara, Mexico in September, Musk said:

"I think probably we'll name the first ship that goes to Mars 'Heart of Gold.

I like the fact that it's driven by infinite improbability, because I think our ship is also extremely improbable."

The Infinite Improbability Drive allows the fictional "Heart of Gold" — which looks like a giant, white sneaker — to cruise through every point in every universe at the same time. The drive is powered by a Bambleweeny 57 Sub-Meson Brain and a cup of hot tea.

In 1975, when Rolling Stone writer Cameron Crowe asked Neil Young about his forthcoming album, Young said “I think I’ll call it My Old Neighborhood. Either that or Ride My Llama.” That album would be released as Zuma in November of that same year, and as Young says in the interview, “It’s weird. I’ve got all these songs about Peru, the Aztecs, and the Incas. Time travel stuff.”

The album came fresh off the death of Crazy Horse guitarist Danny Whitten, and a period of general interpersonal turmoil for Young, who fled his ranch in the Santa Cruz mountains to escape the people he had surrounded himself with there.

None of that context meant anything to me, of course, the first time I heard Cortez the Killer pooling out of the studio monitors at 88.9 KUSP, a now defunct public bandwidth originally housed just a handful of miles from Young’s Broken Arrow ranch. My godfather helmed a late night program there, which my father, my uncle, and I would cohost on occasion. The facilities at KUSP, and the nights spent digging through the stacks, were my halcyon days of musical firsts and explorations, and as such Cortez may have been my first experience of music as something totally vast. The song clocks in at seven-and-a-half minutes, which is an eternity when you are young, and is an eternity for radio programming. It’s a song you could live inside, and to some extent all the songs on Zuma are.

SpaceX has scheduled its first launch of the year for Sunday night: the highly mysterious and secretive and much-delayed ZUMA launch.

The launch window is set to open at 8 p.m. EST at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

In October 2017, there was a last-minute change to SpaceX’s launch schedule for November, with the code name ZUMA.

Founder Elon Musk's SpaceX launch of the ZUMA mission is scheduled now for tonight, Sunday, Jan. 7, with a two-hour launch window between 8 p.m. EST and 10 p.m. EST (0100-0300 GMT).

Aerospace watchdog site NASASpaceFlight.com -- which tracks commercial and government launches -- notes the ZUMA payload will be launched from a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the LC-39A launchpad at the Kennedy Space Center. The only information available concerning the ZUMA launch is that the payload belongs to Northrop Grumman, an aerospace and defense corporation. Some speculate that this could be a “black commercial” mission (a type of shadowy joint project between private commercial firms and government agencies) involving some new type of reconnaissance satellite.

“Northrop Grumman realizes that this is monumental responsibility and have taken great care to ensure the most affordable and lowest risk scenario for Zuma,” Lon Rains, communications director for Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems Division, said in a statement. The Falcon 9 will deliver ZUMA to low-Earth orbit, an altitude about 1,240 miles (2,000 kilometers). No government agency has claimed the satellite going up tomorrow. The National Reconnaissance Office, which usually announces the launches of its spy spacecraft, said that ZUMA doesn’t belong to the agency.

Last month, there was a last-minute change to SpaceX’s launch schedule for November, with the code name ZUMA.

Founder Elon Musk's SpaceX launch of the ZUMA mission is scheduled now for tonight, Thursday, Nov. 16, between 8 p.m. EST and 10 p.m. EST (0100-0300 GMT).

UPDATE: Launch Scrubbed -- Postponed until Friday. The launch window opens at 8pm ET. No immediate reason was given for the delay.

UPDATE #2: Launch Scrubbed Again -- Postponed until Friday, Nov. 24, between 8 p.m. EST and 10 p.m. EST (0100-0300 GMT). Again, no immediate reason was given for the delay.

Aerospace watchdog site NASASpaceFlight.com -- which tracks commercial and government launches -- notes the ZUMA payload will be launched from a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the LC-39A launchpad at the Kennedy Space Center. The only information available concerning the ZUMA launch is that the payload belongs to Northrop Grumman, an aerospace and defense corporation. Some speculate that this could be a “black commercial” mission (a type of shadowy joint project between private commercial firms and government agencies) involving some new type of reconnaissance satellite.

Space Exploration Technologies Corp., or SpaceX, is an aerospace manufacturer and space transport services company founded by billionaire Elon Musk. Elon Musk is also the founder of Tesla, the electric car company following in the footsteps of entrepreneur Neil Young and his Linc-Volt hybrid project.

With Neil Young regularly tweeting cryptic messages of late, could there be some sort of relationship between the SpaceX ZUMA payload and "The Visitor"? And was the visionary Nikola Tesla himself, actually "A Visitor", given the incredible discoveries which are just now appearing in the mainstream after decades of coverup?

OK, seriously this may all be a bit of a stretch, but bear with us here, please.

Note that "The Visitor's" latest message accompanies the NEW VIDEO: "Hitchhiker" by Neil Young . This video is labeled as "Black Balloon version".

The November SpaceX’s launch could coincide with the arrival of "The Visitor". The launch will occur no earlier than 10 November 2017, which is close to Neil's birthday on Nov. 12.

Also note that Neil Young's new album "Hitchhiker", contains a track titled "Captain Kennedy" about another seafaring explorer. The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch from the Kennedy Space Center.

Of course, this all ties in nicely with Neil Young's new album "Hitchhiker" and it's extensive time travel themes. And recall, of course, that Neil renamed the band "The Rockets" as "Crazy Horse". (Also, see "Running Dry (Requiem For The Rockets)")
