Perhaps the Longest Version of "Cortez the Killer" Ever @ 22 minutes?!
Lots of discussion lately on what constitutes "Classic Crazy Horse". Of course, classic ranges from original Crazy Horse with Danny Whitten all the way to Greendale (not classic). whatev.
Here's an excellent live concert recording of perhaps the longest version of "Cortez the Killer" ever at about 22 minutes.
From Neil Young & Crazy Horse, summer 2001 European Tour. June 21, 2001, Sportpaleis Ahoy, Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Cortez was the encore. Complete setlist on Sugar Mountain.
If this isn't the longest version of "Cortez the Killer", then maybe an Old Princeton Landing show (1996-06-14), at 22:30? whatev.
(Thanks Chris R. & Tobias R.!)
Labels: cortez the killer, crazy horse, neil young

No OPL show on 1996-06-14, but I understand there was a long "Cortez" there on 1996-04-14.
Well the Horseback version of Cortez is 18+ minutes, hands down the longest studio version, I´d say...
Next song. I think the longest Down By The River was @ Rock Am Ring 2002: around 30 minutes (and maybe more)! Check out that dvd...
“Drifting Back” from Psychedelic Pill is 27 minutes.
(I'm sure you all know this but...) there's a version on Built to Spill's 'Live' album from 2000... it's not bad... pretty faithful whilst also stretching out a little from the original.
You can see/hear it on You Tube: http://youtu.be/abve2atHs68
BTW, that "Rock Am Ring" DBTR from 5/18/02 clocks in at 26:57 - not to be missed!
Hey, Anon? Or perhaps I should call you "Drifting Back".....any other songs on Psychedelic Pill over 10 minutes? If so, how long?
Thanks!!!
He puts in a stellar concert performance with the Blue Notes on Crime in City that goes on for over 20 minutes. (I'm only mentioning this because the last few posts veered off the road here citing DBTR & Drifting Back.)

"At Uncut HQ, meanwhile, we’re busy finishing off the next issue to a soundtrack mostly of Psychedleic Pill, the new Neil Young and Crazy Horse album, as mentioned here last week, which is even more epic than anticipated, so much music on it that it will be released as a double CD and triple vinyl LP. John has already written about two of the album’s extended jams, “Walk Like A Giant” and “Ramada Inn”, but we’ve also been totally enthralled by the 27 minutes of “Drifting Back”. For a full review, don’t miss next month’s issue." Allan Jones/Uncut Magazine
Walk Like A Giant and Ramada Inn are both over 10 minutes.
I was at the concert one day after he played this version of Cortez and what do you know: this time he did'nt play Cortez, waited two hours for nothing.
