Lyric mixup in I’m The Ocean (?), a great Homefires, Burned seemed to break down in energy and a wrong note. At least one start of a song that Neil ended for a redo. My Heart sounded good, Love Earth was nice, 4 strong Winds was nice. Vampire Blues! Debut?
Overall it was the most problematic Neil show I have seen. He normally always nails it, But Jell, Neil is 77 years old or so. I am glad he is willing to tour the Left Coast. I am going to try to hit one more time & get a better listen.

I had no real expectations for Chris Pierce but enjoyed his set immensely. One cover and well crafted originals. A natural for train songs as hes also a gifted harmonica player. He's so honest tells a touching story of him at like 7. Very gracious i ran into him on his way to signing. We exchanged a few words and a hand skake.
A very respectful crowd especially for being 8k. I was a lil worried going in. I sold the seat next to me for quite allot,,$183.00. they never showed. The seat to my left was open after 2 songs. Its was tight think a airline middle seat so i was very happy. The crowd waz adoring all night. His voice againg like fine Napa Cabernet. Funny too. Maybe my favorite liklline was Dont take anything up here for granted lol. They went knuts for the familiars . But even the lesser knowns were appreciated. Tight on the weed. But ive never seen more alcohol counters all serving the same brands. For a fleeting secord when they gave him Old Black I thought maybe my Hey Hey My My prediction might realize but then just as quik was rewarded w Vampire Blues 💙. Nice. He talked about David Briggs and Sleeps with Angels. Briggs impact is still felt. Love Earth was good . For such a big crowd the participation was lets call it lacking. I was trying to rally the crowd and he was well ive heard allot better. Each time more joined in. The louder it gets the more fun.. he said don't try to be perfect lol. He reminded me of Pete Seeger. Ol Pete wanted the crowd to join in but sometimes its like pulling teeth. 4 Strong Winds
Was sublime. Bonus Comes a Time. Some ppl left shakin thier heads early thats ok. You do what you can and don't worry about the rest. A lovely night in Bend. I even walked from my Chateau 6 in a short 30 mins. He was happy all night. He kept askin how I was doing and I kept replyin various whoops and shrieks. Ohio was a nice sing along. There was a few thousand who know the words. Heart of Gold was sort of like friggin finally animation of the mass.
Thanks Brother Alan & wsanjose!
good to hear reports from some of TW's most intrepid commenters.
helps to keep it all REAL.
that comment about Pete Seegar rings true. There are some parallels here...
I was a bit critical I my review of the show. I must also say that I could not hear perfectly, bobbing in the river on a kayak with my sweetheart. Logistics, kayaking, and my own ADD make enjoying a live show in this way a bit different. The locals and others on the river listening to Neil’s show numbered around 250-350 people. And it was a party, let me tell you. 15 people on one big mass of rafts and tubes, G strings (not the guitar string)… many were talking during the show, but we could hear fairly well. Truth is, you don’t even need a kayak. You can listen for free from a bridge or across the Deschutes river. But I had a plan and it worked well enough. I could not help but feel that a misfire happened in the first song with the flubbed lyrics of I’m The Ocean. For me, that song was the #1 for me, so to have a wheel in the ditch was a let down.
But it was great to hear Neil play a set. I will report from my next upcoming show and tell a very different story, I think.

Not sure of the veracity of this report given that Neil's been pretty adamant about playing outdoor venues only for the time being. Would certainly be a hell of place to see him. Assuming Nils is no longer touring with Bruce by then. https://www.brooklynvegan.com/neil-young-playing-roxy-theatre-50-years-after-headlining-its-opening-night
