Neil Young 2023 Solo Coastal Tour Presale Is Nigh!
As we noted last week and per NYA, the 2023 Neil Young Coastal Tour Presale Is Nigh!
Hello Subscribers to Old NYA!
The Presale Is Nigh!
The breaking news is that the Santa Barbara Bowl all the way to Wednesday at 10am (the general sale for that show will be Friday).
The presale for The Ford will proceed this morning on their platform, and the rest of the dates will have codes and deeplinks available at 10am in the TICKETS sections of NYA (not available on the apps).
While we have you: we know it’s been a while since we had a ticket presale here on NYA, and many of you may not have been around for the last one. We’re a little rusty ourselves, to be honest. Here are some of the most common questions we’ve been getting on Customer Support:
1. How do I get a code?
The NYA Tickets page will have GET CODE buttons associated with each date on the tour (except The Ford dates and Santa Barbara Bowl) — click that button to see your code and copy it to your clipboard. Once you’ve copied your code, click the BUY TICKETS button on the date for which you wish to purchase tickets, and paste your code in the popup at that landing page.
2. When will I be able to get a code?
10am Pacific — soon!
3. How many tickets can I buy with my code?
All purchases are limited to 4 tickets during the pre-sale and general sale.
If you have any other questions or concerns please write to us at customer support and we’ll do our best to address them — we’ve been getting a lot of messages since the announcement on Friday, so before you write to us please check if your question is answered earlier in this email.
Love,
NYA

So glad I was able to snag a ticket to Monday's show at the Ford. The process was a little chaotic, especially with the last-minute date change. I was kicked out of the buying queue once my time came up, but was thankfully able to log back in and purchase one. Talk about being on your toes!
Sounds like there was some confusion with the Ticketmaster concerts as well.
Looking forward to seeing some rusties in July!
I’ll be at the Greek in Berkeley. Down to meet up with fellow rusties for the post-show!

it's crazy I was in the queue at 10 am and there were no front row seats for San Diego or the Greek in la they were all not available did anyone else have this issue.
has technology made purchasing tickets more efficient or easier?
I thought front rows were always reserved for VIPs
It's 10 am and I'm on the website for the White River concert near Seattle. I went to check prices to see if I want to go. To do this, and to buy tickets, Ticketmaster requires my phone number. I have to give them the rights to sell it and anything else they can drag up on me for marketing to anyone.
I not going to do it.
Like Neil selling his music through Amazon, one of the worst companies in the world for workers at their warehouses, like Neil preaching against selling out to advertisers and then selling his entire catalogue, this reeks of hypocrisy.
Sorry Neil. This notes not for me.

got a refund on that "ticket insurance" if you get suckered on it like I did.
When does Santa Barbara NYA presale start and how do I get a code? Nothing on NYA, and AXS only references "Local Presale" on Thursday, 6/15.
So thrilled to be going to Neil Young twice on his West Coast Coastal Tour.
I hope everyone’s else’s dreams come true as well! Keep on Rockin’ in the “Free” World.
I am hoping to meet up with Thrasher in Auburn WA and other TW NY fans.

@ wsanjose01 : I would throw in for Dan, but he can’t make it. Bend is tiny. The lawn is awesome. No complaints if you are in there. Bend is a great venue.
@ All : Beware White River traffic from Hell after show. Best best is to show up way early and park right near exit.
@ Thrasher : We can meet up at White River. I hope all works out. I will be in my official TW tie dye 20 year Anniversary T-shirt!
I have good central fairly close seating. This is the most cash I have ever paid for a ticket. I am considering just buying the CD version of NYA3, but we shall see.
I am sad for all of you who had trouble buying tickets. Keep the faith. More shows on the way if our prayers are answered(!).
The front row is where you go… when you are on the rail. I have rarely paid for it and often enjoyed it.

Seating available now on venue website. I should have figured they would hold back some tickets. $405 sec A. , ,$ 135-155 not including charges for the back rows.
Just pulled front row Santa Barbara. Told myself the only way I'd pay that max price was for front row.
We are hitting the Wednesday Hollywood show up to Santa Barbara for a quick two-show run.
Hoping for some CO dates in August!

Leaning back for lack of European tour dates sofar gives room to muse about the nature of fandom.
Hmm. Looks like there are at least 300 ticket listings (many with 2-4 tickets per listing) for the LA Greek on sale through Vivid seats. That's way more than are available on Ticketmaster's legit site.
I thought Neil and Ticketmaster were not going to allow transfer, and were going to have the secondary markets not list these tickets for sale. (Looks like the same old scalping process is in place...at least at this time.)
Another Greek LA show just went on sale.
What rare/unplayed songs are people hoping for? I'd love to hear Borrowed Tune
Pit tickets at the 2nd Greek show selling at $897! At $150, I paid more for the Ford seats than I have ever paid for a concert by a significant amount. Kinda looking at this as a last rodeo for me for Neil shows.
@Jesse +1 for Borrowed Tune! Round and Round would also work well solo and be cool to hear. Others that would be great: Pardon My Heart (one of my favorites) and Motion Pictures. Basically, a lot of downer songs to lift us right up! haha.

I have 2 extra lawns and getting conflicting messages on what to do for resale. The first pop up message on the live Nation venue Hayden website is TM Face Value Ticket Exchange has been requested by the artist for any resales. Ok great. I go to TM and sign in messages say I can list tickets at any price I want ??? No mention of face value anything. I go to try to sell the tickets and I get a msg saying these tickets are not authorized for resale. So we have 2 conflicting things here.
@ Thrasher : Yes we will definitely meet up in August. I am looking forward to it! Shoot me some dates when you can.

🤠 oh boy , the neil coastal express is coming ! my ranch is right next to the old calif / oregon tracks , though in the early 1920's southern pacific made a new route from weed , calif to klamath falls , oregon , bypassing the old siskiyou route . i'd like to think neil is doing this tour by train ? the coast starlight amtrak goes from LA to Seattle , right by mt shasty here . my closest neil coastal stop would be in bend , oregon , though thats off the MAINLINE ?? 😕 ?
It's all very confusing. The very first pop up message you see on Live Nation is the Face Value Ticket Exchange when buying tickets. It gives a sense of security. Ok I'll have some recourse if I need it. TM help is anything but. No matter how you try to explain to them they just keep repeating the points of how to use a normal resale where you set any price. They acted like they never heard of the FVTE utility. I looked on COT but only found 2 listings for this tour both ISO. But I know it's early. Maybe I'm naive thinking this may work soon after the sales even began. I mean aren't I now competing w TM selling tickets for a show not sold out ? If they somehow allow Face Value to work later can they retrieve my electronic tickets for the buyer so we don't have to meet pre show ? Thanks GDTRFB71.
Off-topic post coming up (sorry, but Box Car from the extended Ragged Glory is just released and I’m excited to talk/rant about this).

(Part two.)
So! One piece of the puzzle remains. How about the newly released version from 1990, with Crazy Horse?
It feels like exactly what it is — a thrilling 50/50 hybrid of the ’89 solo version with the Ragged Glory “house sound“. It’s also hauntingly embellished with what *sounds like* harmonica overdubs mimicking an accordion (?), or something like that.
Wow! What a combination.
Poncho Sampedro’s guitar is as sparse and organic-sounding as this mystical and elusive song demands. Billy’s bass lends the song an urgent gallop, and Ralph’s drumming keeps the song from falling from the cliff’s edge.
(In music, the cliff edge is the most exciting place to be — but as in real life, we don’t particularly want to fall. Falling isn’t the point.)
Neil sings the song beautifully, and with real guts, too. The full-on “spaghetti western“ guitar sound works well with Crazy Horse, and it’s perhaps surprising we haven’t heard more like this over the years.
Is the Crazy Horse version superior to the solo ‘89 arrangement?
I like it… I like it a lot. But overall, I think not.
Bob Dylan once said: “Sometimes the beat takes the mystery out of the rhythm”. And that’s what happens here, I think.
This is a song that‘s only truly in its element when swathed in mystery. No TV interviews, no bright lights or press releases or letters from the editor or any of that stuff.
It‘s a song that’s at home on the smoky Bronco Bowl stage in the cold and bleak winter (we’ll imagine it was cold and bleak) of 1989 — with grass growing up through the parking lot… or whatever we read about that historic show in the Shakey bio.
The addition of Ralph’s drums is a fascinating experiment, and yes — it adds something to the song. But it also takes something away.
That’s the lesson of this track. The spookiest music has to be handled with kid gloves. Because it’s very easy to shine a light on it and say “oh, that looks better”… not realising that “looking better” isn’t the point. Having the spook is what’s important.
I’m very glad that Neil and Crazy Horse played Box Car, and I’m even more pleased that Neil’s shared it with the rest of us. Because it’s *this* sort of fascinating stuff that I think the Archives is really all about. More, please.
Now, for maximum spook, we need to go back to the theatres and converted bowling alleys from a year previous — where Neil performed this edgy song (from the shadows, of course) alone at the microphone.
-Scotsman.
PS: the ‘89 version isn’t strictly “solo”, because there’s some wickedly ominous percussion (from Chad Cromwell?).
On top of that, audience-shot videos of the concerts reveal that although we can *hear* harmonica, Neil isn’t the one playing it.
Who is, then? I don’t know. Another mystery — very fitting for this most mysterious song!

Looks like the TM resale system is working well. I see yours sold quickly. I upgraded to a 20th Row center ticket for one show, and sold my original off for exactly what I paid within a day. . And it was nice seeing on StubHub "No Tickets Available" for all the shows. Now, if they could just get rid of the Platinum BS, we might just have something
They released tickets for the Ford, all four nights are available right now.
Is there any pre-show RustFest activity planned for Berkeley on Saturday ?
cheers -Homegrown-
