From J. Hanlon's Notebook | NYA, audio engineer John Hanlon explains why "COWGIRL IN THE SAND" will NOT appear on the Way Down In The Rust Bucket release:
So the sad news is that CITS will not be on the official audio release, but the good news is that it will be on the full Blu-Ray release!
As we have been sharing here @ TW for the past month or 2, last year, Neil Young announced a major Archives discovery titled "RUST BUCKET". So, every Friday, another song from the 3 set "RUST BUCKET" concert is being screened on Hearse Theater Screen #2 | NYA. This Friday's feature song is "Dangerbird".
Neil writes on NYA:
This, in 1991, was one of the first times we did ‘Danger Bird’ since it was first recorded for ZUMA in 1975. It’s not perfect but it is the real horse, way down in the rust bucket.
love
be well

The complete concert setlist is 20 songs with a running in total of 3 hours. (See Sugar Mtn for more details). The RUST BUCKET tapes have been called "the missing link between Ragged Glory and Weld".
As noted earlier, a complete multi-camera video (6 cameras?!) was discovered in the NYA vaults. Produced and Directed by the late LA Johnson, the Neil Young & Crazy Horse concert was filmed on November 11, 1990 at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz, California. (See Sugar Mtn for more details). Consisting of 3 sets, plus encore, the video is titled WAY DOWN IN THE RUST BUCKET.
Here's an update from Audio Engineer John Hanlon on the earlier announced Archives discovery of Neil Young "unearthing" a major 1990 Crazy Horse concert.

best.
dangerbird.
EVER.
Wow. Neil is so epic.
A seriously stoned out version with extremely ragged backing vocals and some outrageously intense guitar work from Neil. In other words..... absolutely perfect.
This brilliant concert is going to be such a treat to see and hear in its entirety on BluRay. If I’m calculating correctly, we don’t get the encore on NYA until the first Friday in September. Really looking forward to this one. The pot smoke is really thick on this one.
Peace 🙏
It's really thick here in my basement too, Dan
just watched/listened to it again through my stereo really loud...have to agree with Biteme - best version ever despite the background vocals
and what is wrong with me just now noticing Neil's guitar strap for this club show? I have never seen or noticed him wear/use this wide Native American type strap...so used to seeing Old Black with peace dove strap
According to Sugar Mountain, this was the first Danger Bird ever played.
Perhaps it was played during the 1975 Crazy Horse bar tour, but nothing official about that.
@ Richie- gosh, you're right?! The first Danger Bird ever played live in concert.
and filmed w/ multi-cameras w/ soundboard audio quality.

we're on our 3rd playback @ 10 mins + and loving every sonic second.
if any rustie ever wanted proof of a living and loving god, here you have it.
30 years later, Danger Bird emerges. fully formed and epically transcendental in its majesty unfurling across the CATALYST Club.

And he finds himself spread-eagled on the tracks
But the training that he learned would get him nowhere fast

With the rain pounding on his back he recalls the moment that he cracked
