RUST BUCKET PREMIERE NOW PLAYING: "Surfer Joe And Mo(e) The Sleaze " - Neil Young & Crazy Horse, 1990 Rehearsals | NYA

Last year, Neil Young announced a major Archives discovery titled "RUST BUCKET".

"Surfer Joe And Mo(e) The Sleaze" by Neil Young & Crazy Horse of 1990 Rehearsals is now playing on Screen #2 | NYA. Earlier this month, "Country Home" by Neil Young & Crazy Horse of 1990 Rehearsals premiered on NYA.

"It's been called "the missing link between Ragged Glory and Weld".

Here's an update from Audio Engineer John Hanlon on the earlier announced Archives discovery of Neil Young "unearthing" a major 1990 Crazy Horse concert.

Audio Engineer John Hanlon writes on Times Contrarian | NYA about progress on transferring and mixing the audio from The Catalyst Club gig.

As noted earlier, a complete multi-camera video (6 cameras?!) was discovered in the NYA vaults. Produced and Directed by the late LA Johnson, the Neil Young & Crazy Horse concert was filmed on November 11, 1990 at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz, California. (See Sugar Mtn for more details). Consisting of 3 sets, plus encore, the video is titled WAY DOWN IN THE RUST BUCKET.

From a comment in September on Neil Young "Unearths" Major Crazy Horse Archives Discovery by Scotsman:
There is a strong case for releasing not just this remarkable show, but every single multi-tracked film from the Ragged Glory tour that ran until April 1991.

Yes, after the Catalyst, the setlists were near-identical from night to night. But the performances were consistently off-the-scale. Neil was at his absolute peak as a guitar player in February-April 1991.

It's notable how the attitude became darker and more intense as the tour rolled on, evolving from the more relaxed Catalyst show into a more furious, disciplined, brutal soundtrack to the Gulf War. This was a draining tour for Neil, his most energetic performances ever, and you can see how burnt out he looked at the final show in LA. I think he'd given everything he had to give, musically. No wonder the next tour was the polar opposite of Weld.

As for the Catalyst show (one of two warm-ups for the arena tour that would end up being delayed a couple of months until the beginning of 1991), it's the missing link between Ragged Glory and Weld. We are lucky to have had great audience tapes from this show, but I think it deserves an official release. We'll see what happens.

Thanks Scotsman. Brilliant on calling the Catalyst gig "the missing link between Ragged Glory and Weld". A very special Crazy Horse club show with “Surfer Joe” and a rare "Dangerbird" (1st live performance since ZUMA album release in 1975).

Thanks for the heads-up, Thrasher. Listening now and it sounds great -- "Come on down!"

In 2013, enduring some artist i don´t care for just in front of the stage in Gothenburg, waiting patiently for the Horse. They had played "Surfer Joe" in most of the previous dates that year so that was what i was looking forward to the most since it´s one of my (out of a hundred) favourite songs of Neil...then the announcer announces...well you propably know...

@ Art - oh, yeah! "Come on down!"

@ A Olsve - yes, we probably do know. but please share!

This was one of the highlights so far from the Hearse theater, what a treat!

Well, just as the Horse is getting ready to take the bus from the hotel to the festival area the bus driver slams the door on Ponchos hand resulting in, as i remember it, two broken fingers. Remember a lot of people back then complaining about how Neil handled it all. "He should have taken the stage himself performing some acoustic songs". But I guess those people don´t really "know" Neil. Neil is (just) a part of the Horse, as is Poncho, they are both as important.Luckily i just had to wait a year for my next chance to see them, even though "surfer Joe" wasn´t included in the set

@ A Olsve - thanks for reminder of 2013! a real bummer on Poncho. and that was it for that phase of the Horse.

Very luckily and blessedly, we managed to catch the 1st 4 2013 Europe tour CH concerts.

So much fun on the rail w/ all the rusties!

One of our fave rail memories @ Berlin opener.

actually, this post has videos of fans @ Waldbühne, Berlin, Germany.

Thanks Henri!

what a damn idiot. I mean how do you slam a bus door on someones hand breaking fingers? Thats far more dumb than cutting your hand while cutting a ham sandwich.
" I would have eaten the thing whole had I known it would delay the tour" Finally something that lives up to his mantra, Be Great or Be Gone. West San Jose Tim BWO Spokane approves.

With all the unreleased material being shared on the Archives, 2020 is beginning to look like a stellar year for all us NY fans.

So far everything I’ve heard from Young Shakespeare, I believe this is going to be a remarkable album. Every bit the masterpiece that Massey Hall was, and then some. A remarkable set list from what has been listed on NYA. I have always really enjoyed the early solo performances from Neil, and this one looks amazing.

Return to Greendale also looks to be incredible. Part high school musical, part Crazy Horse mysticism, with a message that may have been a tad bit misunderstood seven years ago, but today seems all too real for comfort. Allowing greed to supersede lives, in the never ending cycle of power, corruption, and hatred.

Rust Bucket is indeed (as Scotsman has said) the missing link between Ragged Glory and Weld, and we are getting all three sets one song at a time every Friday on NYA. What a incredible gift to be able to enjoy this amazing performance before it receives an official release. Crazy Horse in the zone and on fire, in living color.

With tens of thousands of people dead, and millions suffering from this horrific virus, Neil has provided a place of peace and joy to escape reality for a few minutes every day. A place where music can ease our hearts from the madness that has overcome our world. A place to close our eyes and dream of a better tomorrow. Not just for ourselves but for everyone on our crippled planet.

Thanks Neil.

Peace 🙏

Thanks Dan. I'm glad you are here to make comments like that one. I'm trying to forget protest footage on the news, people waving- of all things- confederate flags (disease killed more soldiers than wounds, far more).
