Unlike some of those years of Neil Young past -- 2017 was one of the least "newsworthy" ever -- in terms of quantity -- yet highest quality -- years of all. While 2017 was the year "Touring Sabbatical/Non-Sabbatical", it ended on December 1 with one of the most remarkable and memorable days in Neil Young history.
All in a dream...
We began 2017 as the looming "Big Shift" rolls on, yet here we all are -- both irrevocably changed -- and yet still much the same as we ever were.
2017 had many amazing highlights as noted above for both Neil Young and Thrasher's Wheat.
We here at Thrasher's Wheat say thank you so much for all of the love and support over the past decades from the rustie fan communities.
Once again, we ponder that age old question: Is Neil burning out or fading away? We argue that he is neither. Neil Young is the quintessential survivor.
We had our moments here on TW in 2017 as you can see both above and below. And we must be doing something right here at TW. Afterall, Facebook suspended our account in 2015 and we continue to be blocked on a number of fronts when trying to exercise our freedom of speech. So much chaff (fake news). So little wheat (truth).
But we've got a job to do. This is our journey, our self-appointed task. And we won't quit.
Nonetheless, we celebrate the music, achievements and all the good folks at Shakey Pictures. Onwards to 2018!
As for us? Well, Thrasher's Wheat will continue to celebrate Neil Young, his music and the fan community. So stay tuned for some hopefully exciting announcements in the months ahead as we celebrate our remarkable little milestone as the longest running music blog on the internet. So we'll see you down the road in 2018.
peace & love,

Sabatical for Neil almost seems like an oxymoron with all the activity that is listed here.
It's been interesting to be sure, and I'm really getting into the Visitor. A real gem to end the year.
Here's to more from Neil next calendar year, and to all here at Thrashers Wheat.... Happy Holidays.
Looking forward.......
Peace.
Thanks Dan. Glad you enjoyed and thanks for being here.
Yes, it is always pretty awe inspiring when compiling these annual reviews. We thought we could get this one done pretty quickly given the "sabbatical". but still.
In years past, in order to make it somewhat digestable, we would cut dozens of pretty significant events. So this year's review has just about everything we found to be significant wheat for posterity.
Have a merry holiday and wonderful '18!
see everyone next year!
Spot on fella.
Pretty busy year all in all. Loved the music.
Thank you Thrasher and Thrasher-et for all your hard work, passion and dedication. We are "ALL" better off for it.
Take the holidays off and spend time with family and friends and we'll all meet back here for more love, music and information about our musical legend. I'm sure Neil has plenty of surprises for 2018.
Peace to you both.
That's funny what Neil Young considers taking a sabbatical. The guy's still a busy bee. My dream of taking a sabbatical includes a phaeton and a long drive. Neil Young isn't slowing down anytime soon. His 2018 will be even better.

Merry Christmas to all
What a year! I was a little sad to hear Neil was taking a year off but then he really didn't at all. I got to see one of his last shows of 2016 in Idaho, which was spectacular with Promise of the Real. I was afraid he might not choose to play with them or record with them again but now here we are with this new album, which I do enjoy very much.
I read something about Neil making a movie with Daryl Hannah. I wonder what may come of that. Perhaps he was just using that as a smokescreen before dazzling us all with the Archives On Line. I still want the Blu rays, I know I sound like a broken record!
I am thrilled to hear he will tour with Promise of the Real in 2018 (Neil-willing!). The sheer power of their musical union is truly something to behold.
And, I hope for a Crazy Horse tour down the road before too long. But honestly, every show, every tour, is something to savor.
Better off down the road without that load (there went the Auction). Don't worry, he didn't sell ALL of his guitars! I don't think he will retreat to the Himalayas.
There is a Planet to Save. And there's a certain mythical Hero who has a few things to say, some points to make, and make them he does, like a sonic warrior with his Axe, Old Black, again soaring above to split the Heavens wide open with the band. Don Grungeone and Willie's boys / PotR are gonna do us all proud. Don't miss it. Alan in Seattle
PS-Thank you Thrasher & Thrashette for your tireless inspiration and wonderful posts!
YOU people seem to forget ??? --- neil does exactly what he wants to do --- if you think hes gonna tour with POTR , guess again --- neil loves to mix it up , when he gets tired of something , he drops it like a hot tamale !! --- case in point , his marriage , CSNY , crazy horse , on and on --- I have inside info that neil will reform the BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD again --- that's one project that he promised to do --- the band that made neil famous and very wealthy !!! --- and I have friends who know richey furay who say --- ITS ON !!! --- so forget about the POTR boys , they aren't in neils league --- its BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD --- AGAIN !!!
@ Alan - much appreciated and so glad we were able to share the year with you and our fellow Neil fans.
It is pretty amazing what Neil accomplished in an off year. While he may not have been visible on stage, he was clearly very busy with other projects.
At long last those who feared they would never live to hear the full Archives, can be put to rest.
It looks like 2018 may be just about the best of all. Now how about that as something to look forward to.
Keep on rockin'!
peace

You're welcome. Decades ago when bootlegs, acetates, and such were being traded by mail-order(pre-internet); came across an old cassette entitled "Old Ways 1 Acetate." That's what you're hearing now, with pitch-adjust. The original transfer was a bit sped-up and I tried to get it back to the original semi-tone. A couple of big record companies are trying to remove this video due to copyright complaints. However, if they remove it, I'll re-instate the video with the 1976 Fair Use Copyright Act disclaimer. You see, Geffen rejected these demos back in 1983 and when Neil Young finished his lawsuit with David Geffen(and won the rights to produce whatever music he saw fit); he had to re-record all of these tracks. This demo album would only exist in a digital form or ownership by Neil Young himself(as it was recorded locally coincided with Everybody's Rockin'). Therefore, Geffen has no rights on this version of Old Ways. They keep claiming the version of "Are There Anymore Real Cowboys" is the 85' version and I've clearly defended that it's not(there's no Willie Nelson or Waylon Jennings in this early version). If I remember correctly, when this was brought to studio in 1985...they didn't even ask Ben Keith to play his pedal steel(he was replaced by another Nashville pedal steel player but kept to play the Harvester's tour). There are a few hidden early versions or alternate versions of already released Neil Young albums. For the time...this is the only one I'm going to post. The other alternates include: Early 1973 version of Tonight's the Night(with in-between song banter and outtakes), the extension to Time Fades Away simply called "Time Fades Away 2(I've already posted one song from this unreleased album on the channel called "Lonely Weekend."), there's an alternate version of the 1977 album "Comes A Time," and there were two aborted Neil Young and Crazy Horse albums...the first from 1971 and the second in 1984. Most people know about the unreleased full albums that Neil has made to some extend(which I own nothing but information of): 1974 "Human Highway" album with Crosby, Stills, and Nash, the 1974 album "Homegrown," 1976 aborted EP "Chrome Dreams," 1982 rejected album "Island In the Sun," 1987 unreleased EP called "Meadow Dusk," and the last known of the famed unreleased albums is the 2000 Neil and Crazy Horse album "Toast." Anyway, songs from nearly all of these albums exist(or were leaked).
Deep Forbidden Lake(released on Decade) was recorded for Homegrown 1974. Through My Sails(released on Zuma) was recorded for the 1974 CSNY album Human Highway, half of the tracks used on American Stars n' Bars were originally from the Chrome Dreams EP, all of the non-electronic tracks on Trans are originally from "Island In the Sun," "Boxcar and Dreamin' Man" were originally recorded in 1987 for "Meadow Dusk," and "Gateway of Love" as well as "Light of Love," and "Modern World" are leaked songs(on Youtube) from the aborted 2000 Neil and Crazy Horse album "Toast."
