Just saw Neil and the Horse in Seattle. Los Lobos played a great short set after Everest. This is the 15th time I have seen Neil play and let me tell you, the guy had more fun than I have EVER seen him have, and I was way up front to enjoy it. I was struck by the sheer power of their anarchic avalanche of sound. They were joking and blowing doors. Neil forgot a lyric during F*ckin' Up and came in backwards on it. He and Pancho laughed and really it was delightful. Walk Like a Giant featured better whistling than earlier in the tour. It was powerful and moving. I love that song Ontario and Neil is a master of catchy little ditties. This is song I can't get out of my head. Twisted Road was fantastic, solo, of course. Neil played a piano tune on upright which I believe is a brand new tune. It was beautiful but I can't tell you much more about it. Neil is blowing up grunge on this tour. He is taking his songs to the extreme in distorted sonic assaults. So fun to see the Old Man having fun and kicking ass again with the horse. -Alan G.
It's coming Thrasher, but right now I'm way too shot to write about it. Short review though, is that this easily ranks in the top 3 Neil shows I've ever seen (and I've seen quite a few). Ralph Molina's slow start resulting in what I'd call the Black Sabbath version of "Fuckin' Up" was a particular highlight. More to come, when I'm more awake, but it was a stunner start to stop. -Glen
The first song alone was worth the price of admission. Love and Only Love went what felt like 10 mins before first lyrics, overall song length probably 20 minutes of full on raging, wailing Neil and the Horse. Absolutely awesome.
neil and the horse were on fire one of the absolute best neil young shows ever and i have been to alot of them over the years. they blew the roof off seattles key arena.neil and the horse seemed to be having the most fun i have ever seen laughing, joking fucking with each other, crowd interaction.WOW!!! dont miss this epic tour.
Am travelling to the Vancouver show and was hoping some kind soul could tell me what time Neil hits the stage. My timelines could get dodgy and I want to make sure I get there.
Thanks
Don
Don: Neil hit the stage in Seattle at 9:12, played just over 2 hours.
The always great Los Lobos came on early. We got to our seats by 8:30 and only caught their last 2 songs. Neil and the Horse were on fire. I saw them in SF in August and this show was tighter. Enjoy!
First time seeing Neil with Crazy Horse. I saw him play solo in Spokane in '99, but I'd been waiting for a full on NYCH show since I first got into him as a little dude around '95 or so (I'm 30).
Well worth the 17 year wait! My wife and I were just a few people back from the barricade, and it sounded fantastic from where we were.
Great song selection, but I was most blown away by the performance of "Ramada Inn". The soloing was much more vicious and raucous then the recorded version.
Really wish I could just drop everything and go to as many shows as possible.

This was my first Neil show with Crazy Horse, so, I made sure I was close to the stage as possible. The show was FANTASTIC!!! Unbelievable sound. Neil and CH were hitting on all cylinders. From Love And Only Love to Tonight's The Night, each song was just mighty and magnificent. Don't miss any and all opportunities to Neil and Crazy Horse live. I wish I can go to the Vancouver show.
I've been to many NY concerts with and without the horse, that was on of the greatest shows I've seen NY do, really hope that comes out on blu ray concern the passion and fun was awesome. Took my kids with me they've seen NY but never with the horse, they were thrilled and keep talking about how much those old guys had. It was very impressive, this is one I will never forget, Neil's voice was so strong and sound system was so clear, keep on rocking in the free world!!
That show was like watching the creation of the universe. Never seen Neil emote so much on the vocals and he was playing some crazy jazzy astonishing stuff on the guitars. I say sobriety is doing him fine. On The Way Home I was thinking that anyone who is disappointed with a Neil show gets what they deserve. If you came to this show 'cause you heard Prairie Wind a couple of times, or your new boyfriend just loves NY ... the feedback and giant steps might make you wonder. But Neil gives 110% every night. Enjoy!
I was at the show last night. I was blown away, and from reading some of the earlier comments, it seems my impression that this was an unusually amazing show is not just my imagination.
Neil and Crazy Horse create an amazing wall of sound. How Neil can play like that for 2 hours is a mystery.
The whole show was a highlight, but "Walk Like a Giant", "Mr. Soul", "Cinnamon Girl" and "The Needle and the Damage Done" were particularly moving.
I'm so jealous.
I'm from Canada and living in Australia for 2 years. I'll get back to Canada in mid-December, just missing the last of the North American dates.
And now I read about a Neil Young & Crazy Horse tour for Australia/New Zealand in March 2013.
Sigh...
I watched Neil and the Horses set at Voodoo Experience and I know Neil always rocks but something transcendant has happened over the last month, he has taken his live performance to yet another level, he is interacting, having fun, not out of breath, he was breathing fire and rock and roll
to all the doubters calling Neil overweight I suggest Neil has proven you wrong once more, this guy played 2 hours plus solid guitar, I tire from 10 minutes of strumming, this guy was shredding and soloing that guitar so hard, and he is 67
As he once said dont try to work it out I hope Neil and the Horse can maintain this beautiful rocking intensity when they hit Australia next year
I ended up alone at the microphone!
I LOVE that picture!
The photo captures the essence of the Seattle show...those guys were ON FIRE!!!! Every song was played with full intensity. Neil and Pancho had a great time with the audience and each other on Fuckin' Up, and Ramada Inn reduced me to tears. After the show was over, I was stunned. I still can't fully describe that experience, except to say that it was wonderful. That is why so many of us can't just go to one Neil Young & Crazy Horse show....
Yes, SandCowgirl, we made it didn't we!!! From Red Rocks to our disaster in Tulsa, where you collapsed and we spent the night in the ER, devestated beyond reason, to... maybe the best day of my life. We were about 3 deep just to the right of the stage. We could see every facial expression. I have never been so close. The songs were staggering.. full of power, full of emotion, raw, gut wretching.. We would look at each other occasionally, in disbelief at what we were witnessing. Sometimes with smiles, sometimes with tears.. But we did it, and I am proud of us!!
@Tami & Sandy - so great you guys got to another Neil & Horse show!
Glad you both had a fun night and trunks of memories to share.
ps - The Horse really does love AK gals. ;)
Seattle was out of this world. Neil and band were like a bunch of 20 somethings from 1966.
Ramada Inn solo...could be Neil's Mile Davis best solo ever. Hard to describe.
Hey, not many mentioning but Ralph and Billy are singing like angels.
This is not the hit or miss CH band of old.
I am so relieved to read some positive comments. I've read terrible ones and it has ruined my entire " pre-concert excitement" I have been dreading the Philly show that I have spent 800.00 on.
Thank you for a glimmer of hope
