Calling All Hard Rock/Metal Bands: A Tribute to Neil Young
Independent record label Metaledge Records will be releasing a hard rock/metal tribute to rock legend Neil Young in the first half of 2013. The label is looking for submissions from bands from all over the world and the search is on.
Metaledge Records label president Chris Cambra:
"No one has really done anything like this.
Neil is a pioneer of rock and we can't wait to hear what a hard rock or metal version of Cinnamon Girl will sound like. We feel this could open up Neil's music to a whole new generation of people, and it may give hard core Neil fans something interesting to listen to.
We feel they would appreciate it."
Submissions are open for a few spots on the ten song tribute so songs are on a first come, first serve basis. Submissions can be sent to Metaledge Records, Neil Young Tribute, 14693 FM 59, Athens, TX 75751-5517. This is a good opportunity for unsigned bands to be featured on a worldwide release and get their name out there. For more information, contact 877-282-1147 or visit www.metaledgerecords.com.
Good luck & rock on!

Listening to NY & CH Like a Hurricance( premium heavy metal) while sitting here waiting for Isaac to hit here in South Louisiana.Still have electricity. Wind and rain are howling.
Not sure I understand this project. They say who wouldn't want to listen to a hard rock version of "Cinnamon Girl"? If I want to listen to a hard rock version of Cinnamon Girl I'll just put on EKTIN. I mean what do they think the song is, soft rock? I'd also love to try and see a band try and make a song like Hey Hey, My My and make it any heavier. It can't be done. I know this album is gonna be made by a bunch of bands that think "heavy" means louder and faster and it surely doesn't. This is one I'll probably skip.
I've never been very interested in 'tribute' albums. Especially when it comes to covering Neil. I didn't care much for the 'Bridge' tribute however I have heard an electrified 'Needle and the Damage Done' before that was excellent although I can't recall who did it. I'm sure there's many Neil hard rock covers of his songs out there. Any suggestions ??
Preacher Man, I think they're looking more for heavy metal than "hard rock" in the traditional sense.
And, as a heavy metal purist, I don't believe Neil has ever done anything that qualifies as Heavy Metal (though a couple of NY@CH tracks come close!)
Heavy Metal is more about fast power chord riffing. I'd actually love to see some serious metal bands cover Neil. It'd be interesting to hear their interpretations.
Black Label Society did do a cover of Heart of Gold some time back, but I didn't like it at all. Too much of Zach Wylde's annoying guitar wanking.
'Sedan Delivery' is probably as close to 'speed riffing' that Neil has ever done. Neil's electric music can be 'heavy' and 'hard' but it certainly isn't 'fast'. As for metal, he's more similar to the early Black Sabbath, however his 'technique' just doesn't allow him to play 'fast'.
@timothy - good luck with Hurricane Issac. May you find that calm in his eye.
@Preacher Man - yeah, a bit of a disconnect when you think of CH & ARC like feedback. But the mellow Neil amped up sometimes can be interesting.
@Matthew - whoa?! Black Label Society covering of Heart of Gold ?! That must be pretty wicked.
Yeah Thrash - I'm surprised you haven't heard it.
I think Zach could have developed a better vocal melody. I could have sworn there were irritating pinch harmonics in it, but I guess I was wrong. The guitar playing is actually pretty well done for the song:

Type O Negative covered Cinnamon Girl in 1996. Not very good though.

Black Label Society also did a version of "Helpless". Not too bad. Zakk Wylde seems to really appreciate good music

Well i'm not sure it's a good idea. Last time a rock legend was mixed with a heavy metal band it was called Lulu and it was really a bad album(and i'm a Lou Reed fan)
But if you want a GREAT tribute to Neil's song, just check the superb album by Nils Lofgren called "The Loner -Nils sings Neil" It worth the price just for the accoustic version of "Like A Hurricane"
