Neil Young To Induct at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony
Neil Young Inducting The Pretenders
2005 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony
Neil Young, along with Elton John, Paul Simon, Bette Midler and John Legend will be among the presenters at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 26th annual induction ceremony Monday, March 14, at New York City’s Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.
The incoming Hall of Famers include Alice Cooper, Neil Diamond, Dr. John, Darlene Love, Tom Waits and Leon Russell.
Our bet? Neil Young will induct Tom Waits.
This marks at least Neil Young's
- The Everly Brothers in 1986
- Woody Guthrie in 1988 (Thanks Greg M!)
- Jimi Hendrix in 1992
- Paul McCartney in 1999
- The Pretenders 2005

On January 15, 1992, Neil Young inducted Jimi Hendrix into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In his induction speech for Jimi, Neil said:
Young: Guitar -- you can play it or transcend it. Jimi showed me that. He was at one with his instrument. I just looked at it, heard it, and felt it and wanted to do it.
Hendrix threw a Molotov cocktail onto rock & roll."
Later that night, Young would pay tribute to Hendrix's guitar legacy by performing "Purple Haze" with Keith Richards.

At first my guess would have been Leon Russell but then I noticed Elton John was a presenter as well. I think it would be a hoot if he inducted Alice Cooper! I mean it's kind of up in the air here since Paul Simon could possibly induct Tom Waits. This should get inneresting!
How about this one -
Neil inducts Neil
(remember the Last Waltz ?)
"She asked me why the singers name was Alice"
that would be worth a Billion Dollar Baby
would it be asking too much if they played together?
that's a nice bill. that's great news
Thanks for the news, Thrasher. Is there video lurking around of the 1992 "Purple Haze" with Keith Richards? That would be something to see! :)
I also think it should be Neil Diamond. I can't count the times when the response to finding out I like Neil Young was, "Oh, I do, too! I love "Coming to America""
@yer blogger - can't see the Neil & Neil thing happening.
@Johnny 1P5 - yeah, Warren should be in the HoF
@ HarryO - i think Jimi was one of 1st inductees? maybe they didn't have that whole video thing going yet?
He also inducted The Everly Brothers and Woody Guthrie.

Also, just saw a few nice shots of Neil & Chrissie on Google Images:

Does anyone know is it fairly certain that Neil would perform at an event like this, even if its one song with others, or was that purple haze performance an exception? Thanks.
Dan
I'm betting that Neil will be inducting Tom, who has waited far too long for this...bad pun but totally true. Then Neil should take the HOF to task for continuing to ignore the incomparable Laura Nyro. Should be a night to remember and I know that I'll be watching.
Good to see you Mr H.!
You're right, Neil will induct Tom W.
Laura Nero, indeed.
I don't understand why it's Neil inducting Tom Waits. I thought it would someone like Patti Smith or Bette Midler or Bonnie Raitt. Maybe Joni Mitchell? Zimmerman?
