Neil Young to Headline The Concert for UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital
The Concert for UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital will feature Neil Young on Wednesday, December 8, at the Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco. Acclaimed singer-songwriter Joanna Newsom will open the show, which is being underwritten by the Salesforce.com Foundation.
“This is sure to be an unforgettable evening, and we’re so very grateful to the Salesforce.com Foundation and Neil Young for their incredible support of UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital,” said Mark Laret, CEO, UCSF Medical Center. “UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital is recognized as one of the leading children’s hospitals in the world, largely due to the ongoing support of our community.”
Funds raised through ticket sales will go toward building a new home for UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, one of the nation’s best children’s medical facilities. Located at UCSF’s Mission Bay campus near downtown San Francisco, the new UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital at Mission Bay will be part of a 289-bed integrated hospital complex for children, women and cancer patients. Upon completion in 2014, the 183-bed children’s hospital will set a new world-class standard for patient- and family-centered health care, safety, sustainability and translational medicine.
“The UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital is a vital resource for the entire Bay Area community,” said Suzanne DiBianca, executive director, Salesforce.com Foundation. “We are honored to have Neil Young inspire us and others to join in the effort to advance health care for the youngest patients in our community and throughout the world.”
A two-time inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, co-founder of Farm Aid and co-organizer of the Bay Area’s beloved Bridge School Benefit concerts, the prolific Young is one of the most influential singer-songwriters of his generation. He has created a musical catalog that includes more than 30 albums that represent only a portion of his work, ranging from genre-defining country rock and gentle folk to blues and rockabilly. An awe-inspiring live performer, Young shines as both a solo artist and a collaborator in some of the most legendary bands in rock and folk music, including Buffalo Springfield, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, and Pearl Jam.

When Neil had that unfortunate fire at his warehouse last month,I was amazed at the blogs( not on THIS site)that criticized his politics,his country & his credentials as a U.S resident.
This was AFTER the fire had destroyed some of his valued possessions.Sadly,this showed the human condtion was rolling right along.I responded to several of those entries by stating Mr Young has done more for this country
then they could possibly dream of..and he's doing it again.

We've never really understood some of the rage directed @ Neil at all.
Especially in light of the tremendous humanitarian work he has done. So not sure if it's just ignorance or simply trolls behaving as they do with an interest in stirring things up for the sake of it.

Neil is an icon and an activist and people are both jealous of his success and his longevity and sometimes disagree with his politics. Lots of people believe in Free Speech until the speaker says something they disagree with.
Neil is a national treasure if not international treasure. He's lived the rock star persona for five decades now and he's managed to remain a real person and live a real, productive life. He's a huge humanitarian both in terms of his many causes that he dedicates time and money for and in utilizing his fame and his music to advocate for many decent causes. He's shown that his 60s activism wasn't a fad but an enduring aspect of his persona and his conscience. He's shown us all how to bounce back from illness, personal hardship, and difficult circumstances. He's the ultimate winner because he's shown his dedication to his family and to those less fortunate trump the superficialities of fame. He's trusted his muse and had the courage to always be real in an industry that celebrate that which is unreal or better, fake. And he's shown vibrance and persistence and longevity well into his 60s ... I unflinchingly believe he's better now than ever ... both live, and in the recording studio -- Le Noise holds cup to anything before it ... Unfortunetly I think with such true success comes lots of envy and that's just a cost of being great, particularly in the internet age where any troll or loose canon has a venue to anonymously write vitrol and a vast distribution system to sent it out there. The only counteracting force against all that negativity is positivity and that's what Neil and TW, IMHO, are all about.
Thanks so much Neil...for everything that you do. I don't know how you do it, but I'm just happy and thankful that you are here for so many people. This is a wonderful cause to champion...all of the Children's Hospitals provide so much healing and help. I'm not sure if Saints walk among us, but the people there make me believe that they do.
I truly wish that I could be at the concert Wednesday night, but know that you have my total support and that I will be there in spirit. Namaste....
