100 Greatest Live Albums of All Time: Live Rust
As a general rule of thumb, we can't say we give much of a second thought to best of lists. They come in all shapes and colors and of course are quite subjective and whimiscal.
Nevertheless, here's 100 Greatest Live Albums of All Time as compiled by Amazon.com. And at #11 is Neil Young's Live Rust.
Here's the Selection Criteria used by Amazon.com.:
There are plenty of live albums issued solely as afterthoughts or contract fulfillments, but there are plenty that are as transcendent as the best concert experiences, all with zero lines at the bathroom. For this particular list we came up with the following criteria:
• Only one album per artist.
• Albums were performed live in front of an audience, but don't necessarily have to be culled from a single performance.
• No EPs or singles—this list is about albums
Of course, our editors exercise their judgment regarding quality and/or historical significance. If you disagree with our choices (and there's a good chance you will), let us know in the customer discussions at the bottom of the page.

o.k., where´s "time fades away" there are a lot of reasons why that albums should be on that list. but then, lists like that mean nothing at all..

thom, the criteria said only one album per artist.
oh, o.k., is see now..
Under a blood red sky is an EP! But its there on the list.
If not for 1 live album per artist Massey Hall should be towards the top of the list and so should Truck Show if it comes out on DVD.
Sorry - no Allman Brothers At Fillmore East invalidates this list for this Neil fan.
Van Morrison should have been there, too, with A Night in San Francisco (1994) or It's Too Late To Stop Now (1974). But who really cares?

Rust Never Sleeps should be on the list... I always appreciated Neil's "new material live" ideology - and RNS is his best representation of it (even though I personally adore TFA but know that it isn't a crowd pleaser). Live Rust is great of course, but it isn't as edgy as RNS since it is a retrospective with recent RNS intertwined, having been released just month's after RNS.

Have to agree that if ABB Fillmore East is not there, then someone hasn't a clue. I suspect this list should be retitled ' The 100 best live albums (that Amazon can buy in and sell, cause the bean counters get the shits about unsold stock....) So, rest assured from this cynic, the only real reason for this list (or any other best of)is to attract new BUYERS to the 'fold' (read online with card in hand) to buy the music that they 'should know they want' (as long as we (Amazon) have got it it in the warehouse and can ship it! Shite! I'm waffling again..
Cheers,
Jim in Sydney
