All-Star Lineup announced for MUSICARES Tribute to Person of the Year Neil Young
Neil Young
MusiCares Person of the Year
This summer it was announced that the Music Academy would honor Neil Young as the MusiCares Person of the Year.
From Music News Net:
Legendary artist and activist Neil Young will be honored as the 2010 MusiCares Person of the Year at a special L.A. event on Friday, January 29, 2010 celebrating his exceptional artistic NEIL_YOUNG_musicares achievements as well as his philanthropic work. Proceeds from the annual Person of the Year tribute — now in its 20th year — provide essential support for MusiCares, which ensures that music people have a place to turn in times of financial, medical and personal need.
It's now been announced that multi-GRAMMY-winning artists Sheryl Crow, Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, k.d. lang, Dave Matthews, Ozomatli, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and James Taylor; GRAMMY winners John Mellencamp, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Wilco; GRAMMY-nominated artists Jackson Browne and Josh Groban and acclaimed emerging band Everest will perform at the gala to pay tribute to Neil Young.
Very, very impressive. This will be a tough ticket. ;)
Neil's generosity to his fellow musicians' causes has been tremendous. Back in 1994, we compiled a listing of benefit concerts that Neil Young has performed. It's quite impressive and has certainly grown substantially since.

Having followed Neil all these years my guess is that the amount of charity he does in private away from the media is far greater what he does in the spotlight ... to some extent a high profile musician will inevitabley be involved in the big public charity events ('ie' farm aid, bridge school) often because they can use their star power to further the cause ... still, I bet Neil does a lot of good that goes unnoticed because that's how he is.
WE WANT THE HORSE
I agree with the anonymous post that Neil has done a lot of private contributions no one knows about. I've heard rumors that after 9-11,Mr Young reached out to the families of some of the victims, whether they were on the ground or in the air.
RRR
it'll be innarestin to hear what songs they cover.
Maybe Norah Jones singing A Man Needs a Maid?
No Eddie Vedder nor Pearl Jam?
Where's Dylan?
Should we really be handing out kudos to multi-millionaires like Neil and others for reaching out to others occasionally? Isn't it what they should be doing? Rather, we should be giving 'em a kick in the ass for not doing it enough - it's easy to be generous when you've got way more than what you'll ever need.
ummm 04:55:00 PM,
you might want to go back and check what this award is all about.
afterwards, let us know your specific suggestions for improvement.

Boy, some people just can't help being a ray of sunshine, even in a celebratory moment- "Isn't it what they should be doing?"? How about focusing on the "mote in your own eye" first, and maybe you didn't take to heart the other posters who suggest that Neil likely does give more of himself privately. I remember how Jack Nicklaus responded to an assertion that Greg Norman should have won more majors- "It's amazing what other people think you should do".

Kudos to Neil!
Oh, lordy!
I hope PBS broadcasts this event like they did the likes of James Taylor & Brian Wilson!
I have heard that the horse is back and gearing up for a tour this year!
It was only a matter of time.
