hello my name il lorenzo, i'm italian...i've ordered bluray archives on NY website, and it arrived few days ago...BUT: i wasnt at work where the pack was sent, reception office called me telling me that i had to pay a fee cause the shipment was from US...nobody could pay, so the mailman went back with the pack, not telling and not leaving any documents...2 problems:first, the pack, so expensive was sent without tracking shipment..so i cannot know where it is, who is delivering it, how to find it..second: why wasn't it shipped from EU???it a very expensive pack, it should be at least a tracking and an insurance...now i can only wait and pray that someone, dont know who, will come back....otherwise what can i do?
not a professional job from WB....

The whole WB pre-order is a rip -off. I tried to cancel when I was told by email that it might take 4-5 weeks to receive my copy in the UK but I received an automated response to say my copy had been shipped on the 1st June. 2 weeks later nothing - looking forward to paying import tax plus VAT when the f***ing thing finally turns up. I assumed they would ship from within the E.U. on release date. Nice one Neil. You were always were expensive - this really is the 'man' shitting on the little man. Enjoy the ranch...

My problem is that it is "Temporarily out of stock." as Amazon.co.uk puts it even though I ordered it weeks ago. Any indication on when the second "pressing" is going to happen?

I totally agree with Nigel.
In the Netherlands the same problem with WB and their shipping policy. After the release date I'm waiting for two long, long weeks. The fun of The Archives are gone (to much seen them on the internet and other media) and I'm still waiting for the postman.
Next time I NEVER order by WB again. I'm gonna buy them in the local musicstore, where The Archives are laughing at me for two weeks now!!!
It's not very professional from them!!!

Greetings from a frustrated Neil Young fan. (for 35 years)
But I still love the man and his music. It was a fucking good concert in Antwerp.

my problem is that archives arrived, but i could not take it because i wasnt fisically at the place where it arrived and now i dont know if and when the mailman will come back again...no tracking shipment and also a fee that could be not present if the shipment was from UE
and...check play.com prices...so low.....

Same story for the Belgian fans. I ordered at WB. Got a mail that my order hes been shipped on june first. Payment is done (confirmed by the bank and Visa).
Two weeks later, today, june 14, still no Archives.
Bought a HDTV, a PS3, and now I'm wondering why ?
I got so frustrated I ordered the Archives a second time, so if I get two boxes, I'll sell one on Ebay, for the price I paid, I do not want to make any profit out of it.
What I don't understand are the discriminative procedures at WB. Those who ordered correctly at WB, through Neil's Garage, should be sure to get their copy, AND should be correctly informed on the status of their order AND on import taxes and VAT etc. due to be paid.
I'll have a bad feeling at the Cologne gig of Neil next week.
If I get in front row, I'll shout out my frustrations.

Help!! who do we in the uk contact with faulty discs?

4 of my discs wont work and my book is damaged!!

i ordered it from warners in the US..

so who do i need to contact?

At 6/14/2009 09:31:00 AM, Anonymous Luc said...

When you ordered at WB, you should have received a mail regarding the shipping (saying when it was shipped). In this mail is an email adress of WB Customer Service. Normally, damaged discs would be replaced.
This is the adress :
wbr@b3custserv.com.

Let us know what the outcome is.

Just read post from luc in belgium.I did same thing been really fed up with slow delivery from WB so after a few beers on wednesday night i rather recklesley ordered blu ray set from amazon.com in the states it will be with me on tuesday.I know this because unlike WB you can track your parcel! So just like luc i too will have 2 sets of the archives ,having read all the comments about faulty discs and book falling apart its just as well i might get one good set out of the 2!I also will put spare on ebay at price i paid.Anyone in the uk in buying 1?!

dolbero: I'm sersiously thinking of doing the same myself. What do you reckon the chances are of being able to flog the spare Blu-Ray set when it finally turns up? I can't believe it's taken this long, I booked a week off work especially for the archives!

Also, does anyone know how we UK folk can get replacement discs sent for the CD version? A couple of my discs have glue on them and have a tendency to skip when being played.

Cheers,

Heres a copy of the email i sent to Warner Bros. using the given wbr@b3custserv.com address... will keep you posted of any replies.

Dear Warner Bros.

I placed and order with you on 22nd March 2009 for Neil Young Archives Volume 1 on Blu Ray.

I was then sent an email confirming the order and given a reference number: 1714250

Then on the 3rd June I received an email stating that the order had been processed and dispatched on the 1st June. The order arrived to me on Friday 12th June, excellent service!

But here’s the problem, 4 of the disc are damaged, and the books spine is split!

DISC 1: EARLY YEARS (1966-1968): disc is misshapen around the edge, like it has been melted. Won’t register in PS3

DISC 2: TOPANGA 1 (1968-1969): disc is scratched, when in PS3 it spins but none of the content plays.

DISC 7: LIVE AT MASSEY HALL 1971: disc is scratched, when in PS3 it spins but none of the content plays.

DISC 8: NORTH COUNTRY (1971-1972): disc is scratched, when in PS3 it spins but none of the content plays.

The books spine is also damaged and has a split running down it, according to other people on the Thrashers Wheat website it should have come in a protective plastic wrap, mine wasn’t!

My set up is a Sony Playstation 3, its firmware is current and up to date. All other discs work fine, and the content I have seen looks excellent.
Having asked questions on the Thrashers Wheat website, both they and Archives Guy have instructed me to contact you at Warner Bros. and to request replacements for the faulty items listed.

I feel very let down, having waited years for archives to finally have been released and spent a lot of money on purchasing it, only to receive it and half of the content is damaged! Warner Bros. quality control need looking at!

Please reply back to me and keep me informed on this situation. I look forward to receiving the replacement item as soon as possible.

Regards

Stephen Routledge

Dolbero : mixing two sets to get a good one and sell teh damaged one, doesn't seem very correct, imho.
On the other hand : if I open one, and it's damaged, and the other one is OK, what would I do ?
If the WB set is damaged, it's very easy : send an email to WB. They replace damaged discs.

To AB : glue easily comes of with isopropanol, and a smooth cloth.

Above all : since all the folks on this thread are having the same problems, let's stay as helpful as we can to each other. Above all, since we're all Neil Young fans, let's stay as positive as we can.

The 320 mp3's are up.

The names of the links of the individual CDs are off though (I guess someone there got confused by the fact that the mp3's on DVD/BD 0 and 1 are on one CD and thus in one zip-file). But they are all there, and it's no problem unless you want to download only a specific disc.

AG & Team - thanks for all the hard work

To my fellow Dutchmen - the distributor here or the Dutch WB f*!#'d up as well.

I had ordered the BluRay set at my local record shop and all they could get was one DVD set. I went to Concerto Amsterdam and they had gotten only 4, while they had 5 customer orders, Plato Utrecht only got 2 while they had ordered more. The bulk ended up at FRS and other shops from that chain (which hadn't had pre-orders per se as one big shop in A'dam had 4 lying around and two FRS I visited each had one).

Guido & Nigel (and of course the non-Dutch posters as well) I hope your WB orders arrive soon - they are a blast.

Peace and love to all my UK brothers out there - I bought my set from Bristol HMV for £199.99 and apart from a degraded download of I wonder (live download seems corrupt) - all is perfect. I knew not to order from Warners due to import duties and the sheer length of time it would take - but peace - it will be worth it when you get it - half way through disc 1 today - god the springfield b/w footage in the studio and neil's demo of down, down, down is worth the price alone.

PS When I spoke with a friend who retails he was told the phase 2 batches of volume 1 will be ready in 3-4 months!! So do what I did.... ring every HMV in the UK and drive and buy it - there's still some out there. Oh and soon we have some CSNY videos coming on live download I hear!!

people in europe with faulty archive discs, who ordered from warner Bros.... we are screwed!!
I've 4 faulty disc and spine on book was broken.

I did what archives guy suggested, emailed them 'wbr@b3custserv.com' but got no reply, then I phoned them on the number that was given, (001)8664306230, spoke to a lady who then told me to phone another number (001)8667594843, and spoke to a man.

I explained the faults and he told me I would have to ship the boxset back for a replacement, explained I was in the UK and that was not possible..

he then put me on hold for 10 minutes while he spoke to someone, he came back and asked what the faulty items were, I said I sent it to you in an email, his reply... "oh we've stop checking that".. fanfuckingtastic Warner Bros. great customer service!!

he then said he would have to wait for his supervisor, and they would contact me by email... I'm not holding my breath!

So people of europe, if you ordered your archives from Warners direct.. my suggestion to you is

DON'T OPEN THE BOX!! IF SOMETHING IS FAULTY YOU WON'T GET A REPLACEMENT!!

will keep you all informed with the on going situation, and will post their email reply... neil better watch out at Nottingham because I'm one very pissed off fan!!

help us archives Guy.. your our only hope!

Hi,

Archives (blu-rays) arrived today in Holland. I ordered at amazon UK. I took a quick look at it and could not find a copy of "Canterburry House". I saw on Youtube that this was "secretly" included. Is it right that this is only included in the ones ordered at Warner?

I hope Archives Guy can help. There are various posts in here about those of us in the U.K who bought direct from Warners (via NY website) who have got faulty box sets. In my case it's damaged spines on the BD covers where they were forced into the inner box which is too small, and split sine on the book inside both front and back covers. If Steve Routledges experience is anything to go by, it explains why nobody at WB has answered my email describing my problem and asking how they intend to rectify it. In my mind the simplest and cheapest thing is to ship me replacement covers (only the first and last disc) and a new book. Given what we all paid for this set, one should expect the contents to be of better quality.

Where do we go from here to get this fixed? Archives Guy ... can you lean on WB to rectify this by supplying us with what we paid for? You've been a great help to us all over the past few weeks and I hope you can be so one more time! Best regards,
Jim

I came home from work this afternoon, opened my post and found a letter from Parcel Force. It turns out that my Blu-Ray set has arrived at their Manchester depot. The letter also goes on to say that the parcel is subject to payment of charges raised by HM Revenue & Customs totaling £46.67

I'm a bit pissed off at the extra charges that I didn't know about, but at least I should finally have my set by Friday. I just hope there isn't any damage to the BD covers or the book. If I see glue on any of the discs i'll go insane.

For those outside the US that were unaware of the extra costs: when I browsed around a couple of months ago and wanted to look how to order from the archives site, I noticed, though I do not remember where exactly (my guess is just before the final checkout or a link about shipping policy), the mention of the possibility of import taxes above the price and handling costs of WB.

As I had been "burned" before by paying at the post-office for a shipping from the US (not Neil-related) I read that kind of stuff and decided to buy it local (another reason was that if something went wrong or I ended up with damaged goods I rather deal with a local shop than to send send stuff back to the US myself).

I do understand the resentment of paying the extra costs, but it was IMHO not small print buried under legalese or something like that and it's part of buying something outside your own country.

I do hope however that for Vol. II and beyond they opt for a WB European distribution as well as a US one, so that those extra shipping and taxing costs will be lower - I think it's clear that Neil Young material has a large European customer base as well and it's probably worth the extra "hassle for WB.

Hi all,
Further to my post yesterday I sent a reminder email to WB telling them that I wanted a reply to my email of a few days ago describing my two damaged disk covers and my damaged book spine. Today I have had an email from WB saying the following:
"Dear Customer:
We will gladly send you replacement discs. Can you confirm when you say the first disc, do you mean the Early Years 1963-1965 (Disc 0 in the set) or Early Years 1966-1968 (Disc 1 in the set)

Please confirm which titles need replacing and we will get those out to you.

Sincerely,
Warner Bros Records Online Customer Support".

So ... I take back everything I was thinking about them :-). There is hope after all. I only want pristine covers and a book with no split spine and have replied to say that, but from their email it looks as though they may ship the two disks as well. Bonus! If that happens I can play them together in sync on my two PS3 machines!! :-)

Got them twice : my Amazon order came at the same moment. So They're unopened and ready to sell for 250 euros (the price I paid)
WB version : everything seems fine, no damaged book, no glue...AND only 10 euros on tax and import services.
Maybe in the future, you should order through my adress. ;-)
Canterbury is in the secret compartment, with the notebook and card for downloads, and I got Aurora/Mustang vinyl single too.
Strange enough, this single is not included in my Amazon delivery.
Can't wait to start exploring everything, but tonight a meeting and tomorrow I see Neil in Cologne.
All of a sudden : Peace in Mind.

So : I have a copy to sell (sealed)for 250 euro + cost of sending over. I don't want to make any profit out of it, dealing with Neil fans.

Changing highways now to another thread.

To It's : yo're right. Forgot that the single is an extra for those who preordered at WB. I pre ordered at WB, so I got the Single, but that is outside the Archives box. Seeing that, I found it strange to miss it in the Amazon Package.
I opened my set(WB), all looked OK, and last night took a test on all discs. They all play on PS 3.
The Amazon Archives box is still unopened and sealed.
Thought I mentioned in my previous reaction that all of the WB stuff looked fine. Sorry for the Confusion.

Checking the discs last night, was just a thrilling and emotional preview. hope I'll find some time to explore and discouver everything. This is just brilliant. Again Neil Young is way ahead of any other artist. Neil proved once again why he is really a living legend.
And now I leave for Cologne, to see him perform once again. :-)

Just downloaded the archives for free off of isohunt - had most of these anyway through Perfect Echo and Rock N Roll Cowboy - so hope you all enjoyed spending you 600 bucks on a box set and a blu ray machine.

'Cough up the bucks' indeed!

hey there,

i got the box wednesday, 20 minutes before 6 o clock in the afternoon. paid the 58 euro,
46,17 euro tax for import and 12,50 euro for 'inclaringskosten'.
But i have it, and so far everything works as it should be. i only have to see the early years (0) and fillmore, i had that already, so that will be the last.
But, you know, i only have seen a tip of the iceberg.
have blu ray and i love it. The movie in the record store, so funny and original..
Greatings from a happy man!

btw, have seen Neil in Rotterdam too. So Neil is a big part of my life these days..

I bought the blu ray from a retailer in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England.
The sleeves for the first and last discs are damaged.
I contacted Warner Bros by email to request replacements or at the least where to obtain them.
The reply was to go back to the retailer as my order was not an online one. Perfectly understandable but not helpful considering the non-availability of the set in the UK.
Can anyone suggest what to do next or could a kind soul from Warner Bros relent on this and help me out please?

It seems that I am another victim of poor service from WB. My Blu-Ray set finally arrived over the weekend and I really thought that after all the trouble I had with the CD verson this one would be ok. How wrong was I? More than half of the discs have glue on them, nearly all the CD sleeve spines are split or damaged, the magnetic area on the CD compartment doesn't appear to be magnetic at all, the notepad that comes in the 'secret compartment' has come apart at the seams and is literally in pieces, and the download card is missing!! I'm so annoyed right now, I really can't believe they have not used more care into putting these sets together. I've sent a strongly worded email to WB and hope i'll get a reply in the next couple of days. There is so much wrong with my set that in all honesty it would probably be a lot easier for everyone involved if they just sent me a brand new box set!

Jim Breeds / Stephen Routledge, have you guys had any luck with your replacements yet?

I hope this can all be sorted ASAP.

Anybody have any problems with the box itself? Mine came with the book down deep in the box to where icouldnt get it out. I temporarily fixed it by lifting out the piece that holds the book up to where it sticks out the top, but it continues to fall down in the crevass making it very difficult to get the book out and annoys me. Anyone else?

@anonymous (AB Manchester).

"have you guys had any luck with your replacements yet?"

Not yet, but I wouldn't expect to get anything yet. The email from WB was only a few days ago and even if they ship the replacement discs quickly it'll take a few days to get here and they may have to wait for new stock which could delay it for ages. At the moment i'm trusting that they'll do what they've said and i'll chase them up in a couple of weeks if i don't receive anything. Sorry to hear about your problems ... it's not at all good is it? I wonder if Neil has been made aware. I'm sure he'd not be at all impressed.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet but you can purchase/download the archives on napster for $78.95CAN. This will be mp3. You first need a subscription which is $10 a month. Or just subscribe for the $10 a month and listen to them on line without the 78.95 download fee.

On the basis of my timing, yours should land any day

Theakston,

Glad to hear you had no customs charge.

Mine arrived today. Postman in a van with a large sack. I paid the $6.48 for ordinary shipping and did not get stung for customs. Hurrah!

The slot where the book is held had come apart but a spot of glue should fix that.

A fortnight from start to finish is really good; the bonus of no extra charges is the icing. The main course is this amazing set.

Enjoy.

I recieved a reply from WB informing me that if I let them know which of my discs are damaged (all of them!!) they will send replacements which will take approx 2 weeks to arrive. At least thats some good news for me at last, I don't mind the waiting as long as I know the wheels are in motion. I should be getting a new download card and notepad too. Luckily the book was in perfect condition so I don't need to worry about that.

Fingers crossed it all goes to plan this time! I just need to find some Isopropyl now so I can fix my CD version and I'll be all set! I'll have to get some beers in as i'll be staying in this Friday to watch the (hopefully) uninterrupted footage of Neil live from Glastonbury on the BBC.

Stephen: Glad to hear you've got your replacement discs. I just wanted to ask about the condition they are in. What sort of package did they arrive in etc? I've had a reply from WB and will be emailing them back later to inform them about which items of mine need replacing. I'm just concerned in case the new discs will also be damaged or covered in glue. I'm not too bothered about the time delay; I just want to make sure that my discs arrive in one piece! In the meantime, I’ll be spending tonight in front of the TV, beer in hand, watching Neil blow everyone away at Glastonbury! With him being the headliner they should be showing the whole set live and uninterrupted. It’s shaping up to be a good ‘un! There are loads of other top bands on earlier in the evening too so it looks like I won’t be going anywhere tonight!

Kristof, really, I do not know, I even don't understand.
I paid 10 euros for the set I preordered at WB, and only 6 euros for the Amazon package.

At first I thought the postman made a mistake, but no, he assured me that it was correct.

All of my Blu ray discs just play fine, no damage, glue or other issues whatsoever.... Next week I'm having a week off at work, so at the end of next week, I will have seen and heard everything.

I ordered the CD set directly from Warner Bros to get the 7" single. Some of the sleeves were damaged. I contacted Warner Bros for replacements and they sent them via UPS to the UK taking five days. Tremendous customer service.
I asked them where I could obtain sleeves for my damaged blu-ray copies but they could not help, which is a shame but otherwise they were spot on.

I'm not sure I have any business commenting here as I didn't have any shipping/ordering difficulties with NYA1, nor any defective parts to return for replacement. My set arrived in a timely manner on Friday, June 5th, 2009 undamaged. (I live in the US, which of course eliminated the difficulties and additional charges inherent in ordering overseas.) I guess I just wanted to offer my best wishes to those facing these problems, in hopes that some point they may enjoy NYA1 as much as I have. I feel fortunate that everything in my DVD set is in working order, having read of all these problems others have had. It is a shame that the manufactures seem to have had some issues on the quality control front, but I assure you, a working copy is definitely worth all the trouble.

One other word of advice, if I may: someone mentioned sending WB a strongly worded letter. While anger and frustration are completely understandable in the positions some of you are in, in my personal experience, hostilities only serve to make such a situation more difficult. Civil assertion is usually the way to go to clear these things up as quickly and easily as possible. Just friendly advice, and I sincerely hope no one feels talked down to.

I bought a blue-ray set from HMV in Manchester and my book and poster were down in the bottom of the box under the gaps making em real hard to get out - I eventually got the book out to find it split at the spine n comin lose - several of the BD sleeves were split cause of the ludicrously tight fit - I took it back to HMV who kindly swapped it for another set but this one is just as bad - Ok the book's pristine n actually sticks out the top as its supposed to but the main 'vault' box itself is dinted on the front and this time all 10 BD sleeves are split?? Ohe yeah my novelty pad is in bits too?? - Im so f$%kin annoyed at the lack of care and attention thats gone into puttin this set together - £200 this cost not to mention another £200 on a player - the design is beyond shite - the content on the disks is mega but the package itself lets it down and simply aint gonna last - the cardboard sleeves just aint durable enough and who thought to jam em into a tiny box that bends back on itself with NO reinforced spine so its just gonna end up rippin in half after being opened and closed several times?? For this kind of money I really expected more quality - whats the point in goin to all the effort of making the actual content on the disks so good then bein so lame with the packaging?? For me these gripes just take the shine off what would otherwise have been a top collection - as it stands I need a new outter 'vault' box, 10 new BD sleeves and a new novelty pad - has anyone got any suggestions cause Im rippin?? (Also I cant return the set as its over 30days old!!)

Hey all - I purchased my set of Archives from Deep Discount DVD recently, and received the set only to find a few problems with ripped CD sleeves/box ripped in places making the book rather loose. As all else is good, I don't think it necessitates the return of the whole package to Deep Discount. (or am I wrong?)
Is anyone aware of a good phone number or email address that I can contact at WB to get this resolved?
Otherwise, I'm very happy with Archives!

Thanks!

Oh Joy!!
Replacements for the damaged BD covers and the book arrived today in pristine condition! So now I have a completely pristine set and two spare covers and a book (albeit that they are damaged). It took a few weeks but was worth waiting for.

Even better ... the package is marked for the attention of Neil Young at my address, so I'm just waiting for the door bell to ring, as it seems obvious to me that he is coming round later to make sure that everything is now OK! I call that great customer service!

Rob,
Exactly the same thing happened to me! Or rather, to my wife. She answered the door and the postman said "parcel for Mr. Young". She was about to say that no-one with that name lives here but then the penny dropped - just in time before she sent him away with my new sleeves :-)

I have decided to buy the Archives CD set first, then probably Blu-Ray later, but I have noticed that the price of the new CD sets is going up (this usually happens when suppliers are running low). Is this going out of print or is there just a lag as new copies are pressed; or does this have something to do with the glue that so many of the packages had that has gotten on the discs?

Thanks for any information you may have,

Walter in Huntsville, AL
