Songs Of The Times: Where Do We Go From Here?
An interesting letter on Neil's LIVING WITH WAR TODAY webpage regarding the Songs Of The Times submissions. The question is: where do we go from here?
From song contributor Kenton R. Adler:
"It's great that so many of us submitted songs, and there are some really great submissions among them. Not only did I contribute mine, but I have I listened to a bunch of the others, and I have also written to a number of the artists who contributed to congratulate them on their efforts. But, where do we go from here? You've obviously generated a kind of grass roots head of steam here, and people are speaking out. Artists are voicing the collective conscience as we should. But how do we spread it to the next level and keep the snowball moving?"
So where do we go from here?
It would seem that at the very least we should support the artists as best we can by listening to their music first and spreading it second. Where available, support the artists by purchasing downloads or CDs. Or attend their local concerts. Emailing links to the songs is also an effective grass roots networking tool.
Other ideas on where "Songs Of The Times" goes from here?

Don't consume corporate mass media like network TV, large newspapers & magazines. read alternative media like http://www.alternet.org/
I say Neil starts a summer tour, like Ozzfest and the others and take all these great artists out on the road with him.
I know he already does Farm Aid and the Bridge school. Thank you Neil. But Neil these days is more ALIVE than ever in his assault on the world and his opinions on the current state of the USA. Im so very thankful to be a huge fan of an artist, more alive than ever at this stage of his life and career. His creative juices are flowing more as he gets older as it seems he feels an urgency to unleash as much as he can in the years he has left to do so. Id still buy a ticket to see an 80 year old Neil Young on stage in Atlantic City. Tony Bennet is still out there doing it. We all know the routine as we get older right beside Mr. Young. Time fades away and the body right along with it. Thanks for sharing Neil.
Lets hear some ideas on what he/we should call the tour?
Forever Young Festival?
I also like the idea of a tour with multiple stages and less well known bands with a "message".
Maybe a big band or 2 to bring in folks (not that Neil can't do that himself). Pearl Jam would be awesomedy!
It would be nice if there were a graphic for Songs of The Times. That way folks with a web site could use the graphic to link back to the page.
Just a thought...
I say we start a petition on this website that demands the resignation of Bush and his administration and that we banish them to serve the next 10 years governing Iraq.
He started it, he needs to finish it.
Whatya say?
This summer I attended a Neil Tribute concert in Maryland. It probablt had 50 musicians and was attended by well over 1,000.
The point is that a great way to network and spread the word is also through sponsoring and supporting Neil Tribute concerts and bands.
I believe the tribute concert I attnded was organized by local musicians and held as a free concert.
Now it doesn't get much more grass roots than that.
