No opening act. Spooner Oldham on organ, Micah Nelson and Anthony/Corey from Promise of the Real. Band was out there the whole time - no solo acoustic, but plenty of acoustic with the band behind him, plus a half dozen electric. He played for about 95 minutes. JTTP and Love Earth on piano. They played everything from the Farm Aid set except Heart of Gold.
Highlights for me were JTTP, Big Time and a blistering Powderfinger.
4 songs from Harvest Moon.
1. I'm The Ocean
2. Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
3. Comes A Time
4. From Hank To Hendrix
5. Harvest Moon
6. Unknown Legend
7. Journey Through The Past
8. Love Earth
9. Homegrown
10. Big Time
11. One Of These Days
12. Powderfinger
13. Down By The River
---
14. Roll Another Number (For The Road)
Thanks for report Seth!
After Farm Aid, we really, really wanted to make a full Chrome Hearts set. Tried to find some GA tix, but no luck. So we headed south.
Somewhere down the road, a buddy we caught at FA messaged us on having 2 extras. After some consideration on making a big U turn, we reluctantly carried on.
Grateful for what we got at FA. Neil and the boys sounded great. Although Spooner,s mix was inaudible at FA.
Could you hear Spooner at Capitol?
It’s not you. It’s me…
I dunno what’s up with me lately. I would normally be excited about a setlist like this. Maybe it was the low/no energy I felt from the “Chrome Hearts”? Basically, the same band (sans Lucas, adding Spooner) but definitely nowhere near the energy of the backing force of “The Real”. Even Micah seemed muted, as compared to when we recently saw him with the “Horse”. Now I’ll be the first to admit being at a live performance IS much different than watching a live stream BUT, and this is a big BUT, my recent memories of live streams include NY&CH (w/Nils), A Neil & the Real, NY&CH (w/ Poncho @ Global Citizen Fest in CentralPark & Bridge School. I know Farmaid is a shorter affair, but I can even recall a few barn burners, streaming wise. Maybe it’s my advancing age. Or Neil’s. Or the price we now pay for a live performance. Or the length of a show we all remember (but are now in readers digest mode). Or the cash grab of it all. Or politics. Or the world at large.
Or, maybe. It’s me. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer. Still fat & dumb.
Wow, night 2 setlist had some real treats. First ever live performance of Hey Babe. Magical. Would like to see/hear a recording of that. And Throw Your Hatred Down. They didn't get DBTR, but I guess if I had to choose, I'd take TYHD over DBTR, just because the latter has been played so often.
A gloriously ragged Throw Your Hatred Down and a sweet </a.
Hey Babe
Throw Your Hatred Down was great! And i was delighted to hear Hey Babe - i knew I had never seen him do that before, but I had no idea until I got home that he had never played it live!
He also added Tumbleweed and War of Man and dropped Harvest Moon and Roll Another Number as well as DBTR.
And totally with you on TYHD over DBTR.
I feel like even though Vol 3 just came out, he's immersed in Vol 4 planning, and it shows in the setlist - he played 5 of the 10 Harvest Moon songs over the last 2 nights, opened and closed last night with Mirror Ball tracks and played Big Time both nights.
Thanks for updates Seth!
Good observation on NYA 4.

Got a chuckle out of the Rolling Stone online article describing the "epic 13 minute long Down By the River" at Monday night's show review.
Rolling Stone article link is: https://apple.news/AU_tv5Xx7RSGifEuLxpb8eA
Some of us attended the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis back in 2016 and experienced a 30 minute version of DBTR in the pouring rain along the banks of the Mississippi to kick-off the show... now that is worthy of being described as "epic" !
see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIyFbvlH_-w
Regardless, long may you run Neil and hope to see you again very soon !

@ GDTRFB71 : Got any tips about where to find this new live recording on NYA?
I am also GDTR but feeling good! Just dropped off kid at UCLA for her Masters in Architecture studies. LA was a very short stay after a very long drive. But I did meet up with the sister & mother of my recently deceased old buddy Drew. He and I listened to a lot of great music together from punk rock, evolving into Hendrix & the Doors. The GD was an acquired taste. We hit a bunch of GD shows in So Cal in the mid to late 1980’s. We were late to discover Neil Young. Better late than never. 1988 now seems like a long tine ago now!
I still do not own NYA3. Can’t afford it, waiting for price to drop & trying to get paid. I am glad Barefoot Floors (live) made it onto NYA3 but I will not be satisfied until we get the studio version of this gorgeous song. We cannot criticize Neil for having so many forgotten treasures that he has later found. again. That is a key aspect of this embarrassment of riches that we are now wallowing in. So far from what I have heard of NYA3, a highlight is the session he did playing his new songs for Linda & Nicolette. Hey Babe solo is so fun to hear. The song’s live debut is an exciting development! I am looking forward to hearing more about Farm Aid. Have a great day!

@ GDTRFB71 : Timeline concert of the moment…. Got it. YBAIS
I'm not seeing the recent show on the Concert of the Moment. For me, it's still showing a 1992 show from Milwaukee. I'm a Rust level subscriber. Is this a Patron only thing? Really want to hear the soundboard recording of the show.
I'm a Patron and I see the 1992 Milwaukee concert as well.
The setlist above^^^^ was for the Monday 9/23 show. Who has the setlist for the Tuesday 9/24 show? Thanks!
Just drove 2300 miles. I must have been hallucinating when I saw the recent show. Sorry to give false witness…. Your Brother Alan in Seattle
