Super cool! I will venture to opine that, in the case of Will to Love, the overdubs are part of the magic effect. The closest comparison I can recall in NY's repertoire is Lost in Space. Uncanny, otherworldly, dreamy, alienated, yet soothing. Until the next instrumental surprise surfaces in the mix. I rediscovered Will to Love listening to Chrome Dreams on headphones. Some songs, like this one, need to be heard in a highly interior, meditative setting. Otherwise it's too easy to miss the carefully placed crackles and vibes.

I am wondering if by nature of the release of the last couple studio outtakes from the TFA sessions with Stray Gators, 1972, on the archives site if that means we are not getting a proper release of what was supposed to be the follow up to Harvest - Last Dance (aka Time Fades Away). I had suggested Neil assemble this "Last Dance" as an album (there's a track list floating around), in the way he did with Homegrown and he obliged my suggestion. Neil said they had pulled the takes... maybe there wasn't enough there that was different to warrant a stand-alone release? I do know though that this studio version of Last Dance really rocks with an otherworldly and dreamy quality. Neil's guitar tone on this is very gauzy, dense, haze - just like the LA skyline. One quirk of this song is that is starts with a guitar solo by Neil before he sings a single syllable. I am just curious of others opinions on the outtakes and whether this means we won't be getting a Time Fades Away/Last Dance studio album?

PS: That full-band take of Bad News Has Come To Town, from the Homegrown Sessions, is really something spooky and sparse.

I thought representing Last Dance, on NYA2, with just the acoustic Monday Morning was slightly odd. Sure gives a different view on the song, though. Still wouldn’t mind a full studio LP on TFA, if the materials exist. With exceptions, NY has been fairly reticent with outtakes of released songs, usually putting the album or a live version on NYA box sets. Maybe this new batch is a sign of change?

I think Neil understands the fan's discontent with the first couple Archives volumes being half or so already released songs. That was the main gripe with Vol. 1: there wasn't enough unreleased stuff. Vol. 2 has more, but there is still so much missing from the era (like the proposed "Homefires" and "Mediterranean" albums. There is supposedly a take of Long May You Run cut during the Homegrown sessions. SO now the only outtakes we are missing (the ones listed in the vol. 2 book, anyway) are as follows (there may be more we don't know about, like the TTN version of Walk On): One More Sign (8.26.1973), White Line (5.8.1974), Love Is A Rose (6.15.1974), The Old Homestead (6.15.1974), Love/Art Blues (6.16.1974), New Mama (6.16.1974), The Old Homestead (6.16.1974), Daughters (11.4.1974), Changing Highways (12.8.1974), Changing Highways (12.9.1974), Frozen Man (12.9.74), Love/Art Blue (12.11.1974), Changing Highways (12.13.1974), Barefoot Floors (1.1.1975), Motorcycle Mama (1.2.1975), Long May You Run (1.4.1975), Pocahontas (5.19.1975), Human Highway (2.5.1976), No One Seems To Know (2.17.1976). There are also a lot of outtakes still left over from Vol. 1 of the archives. I think a lot of them are going to come out on "Crazy Horse Early Daze"
