The 70-71 shows I do t have much more than a passing interest in, although I will listen to them when they land on NYA. They’re nearly the same shows as Cellar Door, Massey Hall, and YS, and Royce Hall has been well-mined already. Love those covers though! Rainbow and Cane are a little more intriguing, despite that material being covered by Vol II. But that Ducks, record, oh man! I will be picking that one up on vinyl for sure!

I’m really looking forward to hearing each and every one of these little gems on vinyl. What a wonderful concept. Frank Zappa released a bunch of bootlegs back in the day, but he didn’t change the sound quality so they were pretty rough around the edges. Then Pearl Jam became the first band to start releasing entire tours to their fans with the 72 shows 2000 tour. Then Dylan began his Bootleg Series that continues on to this day. And now Neil has raised the bar by releasing Bootlegs with the best sound quality possible. My gratitude for Neil Young being such a work-a-hall-ic is impossible to put into words. Not to mention his unbridled audacity to follow his muse, and not care what people think. He’s an inspiration for me and so many others. What a treasure to have him still here with us, and giving such remarkable music in such quantities, we are certainly blessed.
Peace 🙏
I'm beyond excited for Somewhere Under The Rainbow, Citizen Kane Jr,and High flyin. Not sure about getting them on vinyl but can't wait to hear em.
So am i getting this right that all of these are bootlegs which have been circulating but are kind of ultra-rare? And the album featured art is taken over from the original ones too? Makes me feel thrilled because I had hardly known anything about them at all and there seems to be scarce information about them on the web as well...
A correction: the five remaining bootlegs are expected on september 10th and not october 9th.
I understand these bootlegs will be only only vinyl releases (and streamed on NYA) and not on CD ?
I'll be getting all six on vinyl.
I agree with Tomatron. Carnegie, Royce, and All Came Down are essentially the same set lists, all though the performances may differ. the sound quality has got to be much better than the boots, of course. I have boots of #1 and #3, and that's good enough for me right now.
Of the remaining three, Citizen Kane i really worth getting IMHO because of the intimacy of the performance, the attentiveness of the audience (no one yells "Southern Man"), and the unreleased nature of the tracks at that time. Its the OTB tour that never was.
I don't have Rainbow, but I have the Manchester show from immediately before or after the London gig. A cleaned up version of London would improve it a lot, because Manchester sound quality is meh. (I think its audience tape?) However, most of the set list is the same as Roxy, except for the last few songs.
The Ducks is the most interesting one to me. I've heard a few songs from those shows -- Wayward Wind, Sail Away -- but the rest is a mystery to me. Plus, I've been to the Catalyst, though not for Neil, unfortunately.
My assessment: Carnegie, Royce, Glad for completeists only. Rainbow for those who want a longer version of Roxy, and Citizen Kane and Ducks are must haves.
BTW, are song lists available for each LP?
No set lists as of yet.
Peace 🙏
Pearl Jam's bootleg series and Dylan's aren't really the same concept.
Apart from the '66 tour and a couple of others, Dylan's are curated and cover specific periods whereas, AFAIK, Pearl Jam put out complete shows from their tours.
I know The Who also did that for, at least, one of their post-2000 tours.
I think what Neil is doing here is more like the Springsteen releases. Let's hope the mastering on these will be better than the Bruce discs. Given that it's Neil there is every expectation that it will be.
Funny enough, I think someone does ask for Southern Man as I’m pretty sure Neil tells the story of him walking out the middle of a show after seeing a cop beat down a guy who was just very excited to be there and had since not played that song. It’s been a little while since I listened to that though.
Very good show though. A surprise appearance at a small club.
@ Phil - thanks, updated!
@ SH - hey man! long time. good to hear from you. where you been, man? missed you.
still doing those vinyl spin vids? if so, drop a link anytime, esp these latest neil releases.
koritfw!
I'm glad I'm not the only one not excited for Carnegie, Royce, Dorothy. It would be different if we didn't have three similar shows already. Ultimately, whether these are sold at bootleg prices will determine if I open my wallet.
I am looking forward to hearing The Ducks. Is there anything on the NYA? I have only read about them. People buying duck calls and what not, until it got carried away and huge audiences started showing up.
