So glad that he did that. I pay for my subscription but I'm not complaining. It's such an amazing place to spend some time, listen to great music and get away from all the bad news out there these days. I hope people enjoy the archives over the Christmas break, it's a nice gift from Neil!
Thanks from a subscriber.
Love and only Love, on our (my lady and me) 31st anniversary :÷)
Get them hooked and then spring new tiers on everyone in the new year? WIll they also demo the video on demand features through the holidays as well?
What a pile of crap man .... unfuking believable
The hippie that use to right songs about the " patch of ground people "
The out of work people ....
The ordinary people....
The everyday people ....
Is now throwing us a bone .
This working class people is not the people that choses between food or an exclusive subscription .... only for the " high brow people "
What a sad thing to have to say ....
Too bad .... Neil .... was once affordable to the " Everyday People "
I literally have no idea what you're trying to say with this.
Neil Young could turn that frown upside down! Free access. For me, that is cool! I could not afford to buy the earlier deluxe NYA2 set and look forward to the CDs, but this is a early gift from the Artist! And he has not sold his catalogue for $300 Million to anyone else. He should not; it’s now literally ”priceless.” I celebrate this, I am jubilant! I am joyful! Thanks Uncle Neil! -Alan in Seattle
@ Tom - right, a gift from NYA. 'tis better to give than receive.
@ Roberto - happy anniversary to you & your lady!
@ LRR - maybe so, maybe so. The video on demand feature will be an exciting addition.
@ Fort Mac - happy holidays!
@ Nimrod - the problem is not with your equipment ...
@ Alan - you make good point here about Bob & Neil. If Dylan had gone down a road like NYA, would he have sold his back catalog and rights?
Hopefully, NYA allows neil to not have to sell out like Bob. if that turns out to be the case, it will truly demonstrate not only neil's artistic merits but his/Elliot's business savvy.
Really @Fort Mac? How is free not affordable? You can't afford $19/year for a NYA subscription, but you clearly appear to be willing to pay for a computer/phone and wifi if you can make your way onto this blog. The $1.66 per month that me and my other "high brow" friends are paying for the subscription won't even buy me a coke from a vending machine. I chose music over cavities.
Was just on the NYA website and saw that there's a posting, in the Surf Shack section, about the first Official Bootleg -- but, as often happens to me when I'm on NYA, I can't figure out what to do next.
Usually, my question is: how do I watch this video? or How do I listen to this?
But today it's: How do I buy a copy of this? OR How do I listen to this?
It’s more of a blog entry by Neil where he shares his thoughts on the concert and shares a couple of images. He recently said they are shooting for a Record Store Day release of this one on vinyl.
One cool thing I noticed is when I click on the story title on the desktop version, the artwork is greatly enlarged. The vintage bootleg cover is lovely, and the back cover track listing and Volume Dealers credits are visible. This appears to be the full concert on 2 LPs, 22 songs, as opposed to the more abridged presentations of Massey Hall and Cellar Door. Neil swears it’s the best of the batch, so I guess they didn’t have to cut any songs. Or at least they didn’t, staying true to the bootleg spirit. The record opens with Down By The River, so my fingers are crossed that he got that one fully in tune for once, ha!
Hey there Thrasher .... thanks man ! All the best to you too .
I'll be in Algonquin Park .... celebrating the Solstice , dancing with the wolves .
A Happy Jesus to you !
As said by Tomatron, Carnegie Hall is on the run to be released in 2021 as the first NYAOBS (Original Bootleg Serie) with the complete setlist. The cover available on NYA seems to be the vinyl one but Neil said in another post, a CD release will be also available. (By the way, I hope it will be sold on local store in Europe and not through the UK Greedy Hand store...).
Well it's a good news but I don't really understand what's the difference with a NYA Performance Serie ? Especialy as Shakespeare Show is still announced on next february and should be a NYAPS
This Carnegie show in certainly interesting but I think we have a lot from this period and will prefer to focuse on other tours. I hope it won't delay Way Down In The Rust Bucket, Alchemy, Noise and Flowers and Road Of Plenty expected in 2021...
I know it's 100 % NY and he changes his mind continuously. But I'm a little bit afraid that Warner prefers to release discs with classic tunes than rareties... Just my opinion.
By the way, I enjoy a lot the Hunter Valley show in 2013 available on Timeline... If you like wall of sound and great fun with Crazy Horse, don't hesitate !
As a Neil Young fan, I guess I am a failure. I don't know the archives well, hardly at all, but I am dying to hear some of the unreleased songs. I need to carve out some time!
@ DREman - "I chose music over cavities."
Bumper stickers should be issued.
@ Art - the problem is not with your equipment ...
@ tomatron - tahnsk, looking fwd to RSD vinyls.
also, good tip on artwork enlargement.
@ Fort Mac - enjoy Solstice, merry christmas!
@ Phil - on the difference with a NYA PS? It seems that Hanlon wrote on NYA that there is some arbitrariness due to the evolution over the years of original numbering & releasing concepts.
@ Abner - oh, so not so. never
the quirkiness of NYA is also its secret joy with so many gems to unmine, sprinkled like diamonds in the dust.
After Phil mentioned Hunter Valley show, we searched for it and results came back zero.
So you have to go to Timeline year 2013. A very small tag has the files.
Then you have to select Itinerary. Then you have to play concert.
But so worth the navigation challenge. And there is emerges -- altho a lofi file - a complete pristine soundboard. Lights down to lights up.
Ramada Inn just smokes and smolders the ears. Totally searing Horse. out door gig, large festival crowd and you can feel the energy.
Walk Like Giant just crunches it.
May The Horse Be With You.
I was at the Hunter Valley gig. Don't like outdoor concerts, but this was superb. It was a long journey home to Glebe.
NOT a failure, just not enjoying full access yet. None of us are, really. Just get on there and find NYA2 on the timeline & click on it. Double click, track by track to jump ahead to your next desired track, or listen the whole way through! If I can get in there and enjoy it, you can too. Peace. Alan
Alan, I never thought this would be possible but I have lost some interest in listening to music, a result I think of some mental health issues. I have been working non-stop and this current cultural circumstance has been bringing me way down. It seems like I am distracted and depressed. I am haunted by the idea that democracy is dying, ruined by forces we never quite saw coming (we only thought we saw it coming). I did listen to "Born to Run" and thought it was amazing. Thrasher mentioned a version of Ramada Inn, which is one of my favorite Neil songs (unflinching honesty about middle age). So, I am going to keep trying. Thanks.
Abner, you're not alone. Throughout this pandemic I have been employed, kept the roof over my head, stayed well, and my wife and I can put food on the table, so I've nothing to really complain about (which might raise an eyebrow or two on this forum given that all of my posts lately have been complaints...). What caught my eye in particular in your post was that you have been listening to music less often and are distracted. I have no mental health issues (that I know of) but I and a couple of friends of mine have had similar feelings, so I think it's more common than you think, if that helps any. I found myself longing for the weekends whilst at work and then struggling to concentrate on films or music when it was the weekend and I had the time to devote to them, and then feeling a bit cross with myself on Monday mornings for having wasted the time off.
I forced myself to listen to some old favourite albums, Neil and others, and found it so helpful it was ridiculous, like being in the company of an old friend that you haven't seen in ages. But I had to force myself. I found switching off all possible distractions, settling down with everything I might need for the duration of the album, relaxing my body and letting the music wash over me worked for me. It has become a routine before bed.
I hope you find some tranquility, I can't comment on the politics of your post as it's not my place to, but I imagine that in that area you're not alone also. Stay well.
A few typos in there. Towards the end it should read, “Somehow you can make it if you try.”
(Intended to cheer a fellow fan up, with most grammar corrected):
I can completely relate to watching our “Democracy dying.” Maskless meatheads shooting BLM protesters, protest itself being outlawed against Oil Pipelines, cities disallowing feeding the homeless. And my lifelong party working hard to make sure Bernie was not allowed to compete or win the Primary in 2016 & 2020! And Main Stream Media is totally complicit, never showing Bernie’s crowds in 2016 (100,000 in the streets of Oakland, calling the primary election for HRC early, counting Superdelegates as if it was the will of the people). The 1% rules the land, but it probably always has. FDR made huge changes in our society and created the middle class, which has now been taxed into non-existence while the Corporations pay nothing. These facts add up to a very depressing situation. And I have a family to protect and support; I can’t even talk about these things on a day to day, month to month basis. I must try to encourage my 2 young adult children to prevail in a system rigged against Democracy. I hate Trump with a passion, being an Environmentalist. But Biden is a member of the same 2 party Oligarchy, and has made a career of similar Racist / Sellout behavior. I voted for him because he is slightly more concerned than Trump with Pollution and Racism, maybe? It’s easy to see Trump is wrong in nearly every possible way. It’s creepy to think he might actually have started Less Wars than HRC and the Democratic Wing of the 2 party Bird called the US of A.
Jeez! I just remembered I am trying to cheer you up! Well, Americans were the riches country in the world for a very long time due to our endless war, coups, etc. The US has been at war for all but 28 years of its existence. Obama dropped more bombs and deported more people than even George W Bush! And I voted for Obama twice. So how do I get happy & stay happy? I am willing to try almost anything! Even sobriety!
Neil Young is a champion of justice. When I listen to Ohio, I am in awe of his ability to speak for an entire society (it seems). His music still lifts me up, even tho some consider it sad. Some critics have described Neil’s music as being in Hell(!?). Well, maybe that is why it has encouraged me all of these decades!
I hope my rant somehow lifts you up, my friend. If not, consider something that might. A dose of Ketamine? Mushrooms?
Peace be upon you! Keep the News turned off and give Neil another try. Listen to “Come Along and Say You Will” is very inspiring. I have been digesting NYA2 since Neil gave us all access and I am benefiting greatly. I have my challenges. I work in health care. I can almost pay my bills. But somehow, you can make it if you try. Give Me Strength!
Hang in there. Maybe the happiest people have No Idea what is going on. But smile in the face of death and destitution. The “4 horsemen of the Apocolypse” are smiling; why not us? Sleeping outdoors overnight -even in a car- May cheer you up, if you can sleep indoors forever after. It’s mighty cold out there! In African Religion, Good defeats Evil in the end. I pray it is so.
-Alan in Seattle
I very much appreciate your comments, Old Black and Alan.
People care about you bro. Delight in the belief that somehow, in spite of the headlines, most people are good. Somehow we are going to muddle through this. And the US, whether the 1% wants to or not, Progressive policies such as feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, and health care for all will become a reality. I hope I am not doing a hit list here of “things I wasn’t worried about.” Keep the faith. My daughter’s boyfriend informed me that fully HALF of Gen Z kids either have Depression or Anxiety. I am going to try to help encourage my kids to get through this, no matter how bleak it all looks. Better days ahead. I hope NYA2 becomes more enjoyable, as music to your ears. It is helping my mental outlook. And some of these old tunes clearly got better as Neil polished them and honed them. Quite the revelation this gift is. Almost time to get on my “Ear Goggles” again, as Hendrix once said. 😀
Just got my message from the Greedy Hand UK. Archives 2 has been shipped at last
Mine was delivered about an hour ago. Never heard from Greedy Hand, status there still says 'not shipped', The delivery company, Yodel, sent me an e-mail last night saying a package from Time Music was in transit, so I assumed it was my Archives II box. Happy news for U.K. customers after the long wait :-)
@ Abner, Old Black, & Alan - it definitely warms us and gives us hope to see the caring dialog here.
to share and learn. our mission is humble.
@ Steve L & G-Man - really good news that boxes have finally started to arrive in UK. So sorry you guys had such a hassle. Hopefully a learning experience for NYA & GH to get act together for future releases.
now go and enjoy! you're in for a treat that makes it worth the wait.
Mine arrived within the last hour. I can't bring myself to open it quite yet...
I have nothing to complain about, my life is good. And the story I have to tell is too long and difficult for me to write now. Let's just say it has to do with racism. I am a white male, not the victim of racism, but I have students and friends who have been the victims. And for the first time in my life the sheer reality of racism slammed me. Doing research on environmental injustice has not helped. This time has actually been an incredible wake up for me, as I realize there is so much more that I can do to help. Right now we need as much courage and good will as possible. The last part of my career is going to be totally dedicated to doing everything in my ability to help in the fight against hate and injustice.
Abner Snopes: Oh yeah, Racism is alive and well in the USA. Thanks for nothing, Trump, for pouring gas on the fire. Regarding fighting Racism and your determination to do ALL you can to extinguish it: That is great to hear! Many, many people are fighting against Racism. My family took part in BLM protests in Shoreline Wa. I helped others hold large Anti Racism signs over the freeway during Rush hour. And this is the kind of ideology Neil Young promotes. Neil would be proud of your determination to do what is right. Help the people. Fight the Injustice!
When the Proud Boys roam the streets, cheered on by hateful moron Trump, there is clearly a large problem in the US. When Trump calls Antifa "Terrorists" and categorically, quickly labels them as the group responsible for ANY violence or destruction, you know Trump is a white supremacist. Its a scary time in the US. But we will continue to fight Racism and fight for the rights of the people. Minority populations need protection from Hate crimes and we will endeavor to aid them. Fight on brother. The "toilet is about to get flushed" in WA, DC! Alan in Seattle
Unknown, I'm with you, protesting, helping, writing.....
The Proud Boys and others who cannot accept Trump's defeat? There is no other explanation for these responses other than the deep-seated white supremacy. Black Lives Matter gets smeared in social media- "defund the police" does NOT mean eliminate police- it means reform our communities and so the police have a totally different role. It means mental health care, social services, and investments into our segregated cities that became radically segregated from red-lining.
Meanwhile I have an old college friend who refuses to wear a mask? He claims "COVID is a hoax." This is unbelievable.
I listed to Campaigner this morning, the perfect song for me right now.
I am “Unknown.” I posted that from a different computer. (Posted twice out of fear of having lost it once?)
Kudos to you for caring deeply about the unjust ills of society. And they say we are a “Christian Nation.” What a load of crap! If only Jesus could return and run the show, perhaps get Dad to hurl a few lightning bolts at Trump and his hateful crew. Stephen Miller went to the same High School as me(!): Santa Monica High School! How he turned out like a Gestapo is a mystery. I guess he got the sociopath gene, or something. His own family escaped the gas chambers in Germany due to open immigration to the US! His own Uncle wrote a great piece against him, and essentially disowned him. These bone-heads are unconcerned that the Boomers need immigration just to fund Social Security. White people in the US are too lazy to work in the fields and bring in the harvest. Not that Agricultural jobs are the only ones Immigrants fill. I wish I believed Biden cared about these important issues. “Not Trump” is not enough. But I do look forward to seeing Trump leave office, like a huge turd that society will finally squeeze out, after undue suffering, witness to his total lack of character and awful instincts.
I remain open to being amazed by Biden, should he do anything useful or good for our ailing society. Telling folks they must wear a mask is an intelligent, scientific edict. Perhaps Biden will redeem himself somewhat. His record is very bad, from a Humanitarian perspective. His son is in deep shit over Nepotism and Grift. Biden is a tool of the banking Industry and Big Oil, he Military Industrial Complex, and the 1%. He will probably need a miraculous stroke to change his stripes. Like in a pathetic movie with Travolta called Phenomenon.
And yet, Hope remains! Amazing and Wonderful changes may yet unfold. Here in WA state, dudes driving trucks are edging closer to Road Rage. When the Big Shift takes place, the driver will not be burning highly carcinogenic Diesel fuel in a 4x4. Time for me to repeat the Serenity prayer and read my Big Book. Zoom AA meetings help me.
Have you heard about that YouTube trend of younger (African American) men and women doing a real time listen to Neil Young’s “Southern Man” and “Alabama” etc? There is a man and woman who were quite a pleasure to watch and listen to. Come to think of it, I think Thrasher gets the credit for posting this! I think I got it from Thrashers Wheat.

Southern Man still sends chills up my spine. Here is a song Dylan could not have written. Alabama is another. I LOVE Dylan. We get to have BOTH of these artists to enjoy, and countless others of course. Neil got a later start than Dylan, and he had some catching up to do with that Protest Singer. And yet somehow NY seems to be keeping a head of steam and holding on to his values better in the long run, perhaps.
Ya, the Archives are a bit clunky to navigate. I am slowly getting better at it. I have listened to nearly every track from NYA2. The ones I favor are of course the alternate versions & live versions. Goodbye Christians on the Shore is worth a listen. A lot of it is revelatory and wonderful. Come Along and Say You Will is up there near the top for me. Raised on Robvery with Joni is interesting. The last disc of Budokan Japan live 1976 is cool. There is a way to hit the NYA2 discs from the timeline which helps separate the individual albums. The link from Home to listen to NYA2 leads to All the songs in a complete unseparated list.
Let the Wind fill your Sails again. A true confession from me, sacreligious to many NY fans: I don’t have much use for CSNY(!). They bore me. Their Saccharine Harmonies have a bit too much syrup. If they are the American Beatles, then we F’d up! Sorry to offend! Opinions vary. Bit Crosby is doing his best to make everyone see Neil’s point of view. Stills and Nash have also turned their backs on Cros, the big mouthed offender. Crosby even further diminished his standing by needlessly Dissing Eddie Van Halen’s guitar work just after his death.
I am digressing here. Trying to encourage you in your ongoing fight for Justice and Humanity. Again, Neil would approve. And if your curiosity to give a listen to more tracks on NYA on line during this time of free access has increased, good on ya! My next mission on NYA is to determine if I need to buy a hard copy of Greendale live. I know I don’t need the video, touched up by Digital Masking to hide Pancho for some highly questionable reason. I heard it is very expensive to do that sort of thing. Hmm. Maybe Pancho and Cros both dissed Neil’s girlfriend, or some other unlikely or bizarre crime.
I was Facebook friends with drummer Ralph Molina for awhile prior to the Trump era. It turns out he is a Right Wing Crackpot Jesus Freak Stars n Bars flag waver! I argued with him and ultimately I friended him. I pushed him to unfriend me for sure. I do not approve of Ralph Molina’s political ideology, but if Neil can still use him as a drummer, so be it. Neil May yet have a positive effect on him. I like Colorado, the album. Be like those Canadian Geese, Abner Snopes: Fly on. We’ve got work to do. Smell the roses on NYA as you fly on, doing your best to Eclipse the Vile Hatred and Ugly character of the worst parts of our modern US society. We are better off for having you with us on this journey.

Alan, thank you. I just listened to "Monday Morning." Taking your advice, and listening to the archives. What comes back to me is hard to explain. It is a lot of memory, some of the best times full of Neil songs. He was always there, even when he was crazy. Great to hear your words and thanks again.
Raised on Robbery! Yes!
You are a success as a Neil Young fan! 😂
👍🏻✌️
Check out CSNY doing Vacancy from NYA2 doing Vacancy. What might have been!
I have Archives II Alan, but no CSNY doing Vacancy?
Doh! Brain Fart! There is an explanation for my mistake but I cannot disclose it here! The good news is, your set is complete! My head was elsewhere, it seems! 😂
I was actually thinking of On The Beach with CSNY, I THINK! 😂
