Comment of the Moment: The Neil Young Archives (NYA) and Future Possibilities
By now, we have a fairly good understanding of the future direction of The Neil Young Archives (NYA).
So how might this roll out going forward? The Comment of the Moment is from Lone Red Rider:
Looks like Neil pulled the plug on TFA2 unless he later changes his mind and goes for more fractions. Thanks LRR, as always! Certainly most of these that are unreleased still are on fans wishlists. Others?! How about the Crazy Horse album "Toast"???
Here is the new speculation, coupled with hints from the archvies website. I'd still like to hear what he can do with the Catalyst 1984 shows. Then there is the matter of the unreleased and uber-hidden album he has on his timeline where the 1973 Rainbow shows lives.
4: Roxy [coming this Spring]

I like that list about and would have to agree with it. Checks off most of personal Wishlist too!
As for the Special Release Series, he mentioned 12-14 unreleased albums it think. Perhaps including some of these titles:
1. Early Daze
2. Time Fades Away II
3. Tonight's The Night Raw (I know, I know... )
4. Homegrown
5. Hitchhiker - Released 2017
6. Chrome Dreams
7. Oceanside/Countryside
8. Island In The Sund
9. Old Ways I
10. Old Ways III
11. Solo Silver And Gold
12. Toast
Thought Solo Trans and Crazy Horse Garage are called 'unreleased albums' on the website...
...Dume... I knew I was forgetting something.
Okay, can we try to crack the code on Archives, Vol. 2?
This is wrong, but it's a place to start.
1. Time Fades Away II
2. Roxy
3. Homegrown
4. Dume
5. Odeon-Budokan
6. Chrome Dreams
7. Oceanside/Countryside
8. Boarding House
Just to be clear, LRR was talking about live NYAPS releases, which is what the numbers correspond to (preceded by Canterbury 00, Riverboat 01, Fillmore 02, Cellar Door 02.5 and Massey 03). So Toast wouldn't fit into that, though it should presumably show up as part of the Special Release Series like Syscrusher said. Guess you could argue TFA2 either way, since it's live material but also an alternate version of an officially released album. We also know that the Paradox soundtrack will be SRS10, but with the half-numbers he still could squeeze a lot of stuff between it and Hitchhhiker.
It just dawned on me that Neil cited "June" in the Rolling Stone interview as the date for subscription fees to begin for the NYA. Long-timers may recall that when we were waiting for CD releases of the Missing Six, the promised release date became a punch line as the years went by without the release. That promised date?
"June."
It's only vaguely relevant here, but if you log into the NYA you can see the artwork and booklets for both of the upcoming releases (Roxy and Paradox) in very high definition. The NY font is back!
I was hoping the 'Play Album' button would work, but no such luck!
It's a great resource, but ultimately I listen to music on CD, as my laptop is crappy. The X-stream system may be the highest definition ever, but by the time it's been squeezed through the cheap components of the computer, it may as well be mp3!
As fun as the online NYA is, I desperately hope for a DVD and CD boxset - ideally both together in the same box like the recent Sgt Pepper 50th Anniversary release, or various Bob Dylan Bootleg sets. Fingers crossed someone from Neil's team and/or Reprise is listening to the fans and taking notes (I'm happy to pay for it!)
@ Syscrusher - Nice Special Release Series suggestions!
And Dume, of course. How can we forget?! ;)
@ Ken - good list and see you included Dume. hey, we're all about cracking the code. on Archives, Vol. 2?
@ Babbo - Right, this a major point of confusion for the "lay-Neil fan".
But obviously, everyone knows that any self respecting Neil fan can espouse at length on the virtues of the SRS vs NYAPS, right?!
@ Art - good one. "June" is always the answer!
@ Thos - it's highly relevant here. Nothing vague whatsoever. thanks and we'll post on that right away!
@Art- The Archives date catch line was actually "July". You have to re-watch the MuchMusic special from 1996 to get that. Many others have also misquoted it as, June, through the years...including even the guy who asked the original question!
One other wrinkle in the SRS list: For some unfathomable reason, Neil lists the Paradox Soundtrack as SRS#10. So that puts an unwelcome upper limit there (fractions notwithstanding), but it may also be another clue :-).
Thanks for the thread, Thrasher
The story appears to be different now that actual copies of ROXY are now in our hands! The spine of the RSD Vinyl clearly states that this is actually NYAPS-05, just as originally speculated. So we are back to:
04) TFA2
05) ROXY
05.5) Rainbow (Speculative. There was an unreleased album hidden on the NYA timeline for a while)
06) Odeon Budokan
06.5) Bernstein Tapes (Speculative. There was an unreleased album hidden on the NYA timeline for a while)
07) Boarding House
08) Solo Trans
