Farm Aid's annual concert will be today, Saturday, September 21, at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, New York.

Farm Aid 2013 will feature Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young and Dave Matthews.

The campaign for a Nobel Peace Prize for Willie Nelson's Farm Aid work and other causes continues. Thus far, almost 30,000 have supported the effort by liking Willie Nelson for a Nobel Peace Prize page on Facebook.

With this year's Farm Aid 2012 in Hershey, PA coming up, we thought it was a good idea to remind folks of the remarkable lifetime achievements of the founder of Farm Aid, Willie Nelson.

Willie Nelson's efforts for Farm Aid, his work on alternative fuels, and world peace initiatives deserve a nomination for a Nobel Peace Prize. (Full details of Nelson's career and commitment to humanitarian efforts are here.)

Willie Nelson has been helping family farmers for over 25 years and has raised awareness of healthy foods while raising funds for the cause.

Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp organized the first Farm Aid concert in 1985 to raise awareness about the loss of family farms and to raise funds to keep farm families on their land. Dave Matthews joined the Farm Aid Board of Directors in 2001. Farm Aid has raised more than $37 million to promote a strong and resilient family farm system of agriculture. Farm Aid is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to keep family farmers on their land.


John Mellencamp is campaigning to get Willie Nelson a Nobel Peace Prize. The interview took place on SIRIUS XM Willie's Place at Farm Aid 25 in Milwaukee, Wisc.

An Evening with Graham Nash & Wild Tales

Last week, we had Neil Young in town. Tonight, Graham Nash appeared at the Library of Congress, in Washington, DC to discuss his new book Wild Tales.

Graham focused his remarks primarily on his period with The Hollies, his musical influences, and leaving the band to form Crosby, Stills & Nash. He also discussed meeting Joni Mitchell and various aspects of their relationship. Also, a fair amount of memories of David Crosby -- his "most rewarding and complicated relationship."

Otherwise, the obligatory Neil Young content was that Neil had called Graham several days ago to invite him to perform at the Bridge concerts with CSNY in October. "Neil doesn't waste words", Nash said. Nash spoke briefly on the 1974 live concert box set and says that he has 11 tracks left to mix.

The Embarrassment of Mainstream Media: Distortion of Neil Young's Tar Sands Comments

To say that the above clip is "fair and balanced" is to make a mockery of any legitimate honest debate. It is literally beyond laughable and must be seen to be believed. We cry for our future. [ed: note, unfortunately -- or fortunately -- the embarrassing mainstream video of "The Morning Show" has been removed, probably due to this blog post. Commentary below gives a flavor of what's missing.  Meanwhile the classic graphic below summarizes even better mainstream media lies and manipulation.]

The distortion of Neil Young's recent comments regarding Tar Sands oil extraction in Alberta, Canada has been a case study of all that is wrong with the mainstream media.

Much of the outrage focuses on the quote "The fact is, Fort McMurray [Alberta] looks like Hiroshima."

From this quote, much distortion of Neil Young's message has taken place. There's been a failure by many to grasp that the use of the city of Hiroshima is simply metaphorical.

If one listens to the clip in it's entirety, one hears Neil explicitly state that he's talking about an area that is "25-30 miles outside of town". Yet, from this, even the Mayor of Fort McMurray has felt insulted and interpreted the comment to be an indictment of downtown and all of its citizens. It seems like so many media outlets are unable to grasp the fundamental point that Young was making -- or deliberately distorting the quote and misleading their audience.

Anyone who has followed this story closely should feel embarrassed by the trivialization of the debate in the above clip. It would be funny, if it weren't so sad. It's important to state what a disservice that "The Morning Show" does to it's audience with the attempted semi-humorous discussion of Neil Young's Tar Sands oil extraction and the ensuing uproar.

Furthermore, one needs to understand that this isn't simply the empty headed-ness of the teleprompter reading on-air actors. Or the script writers and producers of "The Morning Show". What you see and hear is a concerted effort by corporate media owners to take any serious challenge to the existing status quo and marginalize, trivialize and ridicule those messengers.

Turn off the mainstream media.
