Yesterday, we posted on Vinyl Giveaway: Time Fades Away by Neil Young and some of the memories back in 1973. Here's another memory from the Ditch Years.
In an exclusive interview with Human Highway, drummer Johny Barbata talks about his career and drumming with CSNY and other bands.
From Time Never Fades Away for Johny Barbata:
For a while Barbata lived with Neil Young on his ranch. He recalls the trip there.More of exclusive interview on Time Never Fades Away for Johny Barbata.
“I left LA with Neil in a funky old jeep and he was pulling a trailer with some personal belongings. LA was burning so we left,” he said.
In the three weeks he was there Barbata, who is a health nut, turned Young on to a protein drink that he thinks Young still drinks to this day.
“He had this great rocking chair and this dog and he was happy. He always slapped his leg when he was happy, like a hillbilly,” he said. “We’d walk all over his ranch. Crosby, Stills and Nash would stop in and it would turn into a great party.”

People say don't rock the boat,
Let things go their own way
Ideas that once seemed so right
Now have gotten hard to say
I wish that I could talk to you,
And that you could talk to me
'Cos there's very few of us
left my friend
From the days that used to be...

That was a great article !!! Makes me want to get the book. I wish the interview had covered some of JB's experiences drumming with the Jeffersons...

From Lincvolt dotcom:
Lincvolt is back at AVL US in Orange County for final calibrating and some work on the instrument panel to show the state of charge and real time use of power. This is the last phase before Lincvolt hits the road with Shakey Pictures for a shakedown cruise. We are all eagerly anticipating this moment that has evaded us for so long. There may be a surprise showing of Lincvolt at an upcoming musical event, demonstrating the breakthrough sound of PONO 21st Century Digital from a PONO system that is now installed in the car. Thanks for staying with us. As you can see by the recent history of the webcam, the car is looking great. We will have the webcam up again soon at AVL for you to view the progress.
Thanks for your support.

Fifteen years after producing Time Fades Away, Elliott Mazer produced another of his many live masterpieces. Exactly twenty five years ago today (January 31, 1988), The Dream Syndicate played Raji's at the Hastings Hotel in central Hollywood with Elliot at the soundboard. He would also produce Ghost Stories, which came out later that year and would be their final album.
The Complete Live At Raji's is one of my three favorite live albums, along with Live Rust and Allmans at Fillmore East. Opening with probably the best version of See That My Grave Is Kept Clean that you'll ever hear, it includes many of the seminal songs from the earlier albums along with one other killer cover. All Along The Watchtower is mammoth and might very well be Neil's influence in performing this live just a few years later. Who knows, maybe Elliot played him the tapes? I've often said that Steve Wynn is "the Neil Young of alternative music"; if you need proof, then just check out Live at Raji's sometime and I think you'll agree!
And check the link below for a video of The Dream Syndicate doing the most furious version you'll ever hear of Cinnamon Girl (tempo somewhere between double time and Speed Metal), followed by their own classic Tell Me When It's Over. This is from a show in The Netherlands back in 1986, where apparently they spell "Cinnemon" a bit differently! Hope you enjoy!

The bass player in the photo is Calvin 'Fuzzy' Samuel - not Greg Reeves. I've known Fuzzy since '78 and market his CD 'Organic Blues' via Pouring Rain, available on itunes.
